Antihistamine nasal drops for children

Antiallergic nasal drops: names and reviews

The human immune system sometimes malfunctions and reacts inadequately to various stimuli. Allergies today are an increasingly widespread disease.

Table of contents:

According to statistics, every fifth person suffers from it.

Allergy and its symptoms

Allergies are familiar to both adults and children; this disease seriously complicates life. It manifests itself as nasal congestion, tearing, swelling and sneezing. In spring, the risk of catching rhinitis increases.

Antiallergic nasal drops are the fastest means of salvation. In addition to the fact that they instantly relieve allergy symptoms and last for quite a long time, they are very convenient to use. The only important thing is to choose the right ones! You should be especially careful when choosing antiallergic nasal drops for children. The drugs can be presented in the form of sprays, the use of which helps to distribute the drug evenly throughout the nasal mucosa.

The range of nasal drops with an antiallergic effect is very large. They can be divided into several types.

Hormonal drugs

This is the most effective group in the fight against allergic rhinitis, but its use should be postponed as a last resort when all other means have failed.

The effect of using hormonal drugs appears no earlier than 2-3 days after initial use. They will not immediately remove allergic symptoms. The disadvantage of this group is the risk of unwanted side effects.

What hormonal antiallergic nasal drops are known today? Their list includes the following drugs:

  1. "Benacap." Used to treat seasonal allergies and bronchial asthma. May cause dry mouth, sore throat, nausea, depression, irritability. Pregnant women and breastfeeding women should not use it. Benacap is contraindicated for children.
  2. "Nasonex". This product is safe for pregnant women and children over two years of age. Based on numerous reviews, it can be judged that Nasonex is easy to use, does not cause any discomfort, and is effective in cases where the patient has nasal polyps along with allergies. The use of this drug may cause side effects, so long-term treatment is not recommended.
  3. "Flycosonase" - antiallergic nasal drops. They can be used no more than once a day and only for treating adults and children over four years of age. This drug relieves symptoms of congestion in allergy sufferers and alleviates the general condition.
  4. "Nasobek." It is used for various allergic rhinitis and has an anti-inflammatory effect. But there are contraindications. The drug is prohibited for use in the treatment of children under 6 years of age, people with tuberculosis, and also in the presence of fungal infections.

Antihistamines

The advantage of this group of medications is that they quickly relieve all allergy symptoms. The antihistamine component included in their composition blocks the receptors that trigger allergic inflammation.

The most popular representatives of antihistamine drops:

  1. "Allergodil." Adverse reactions from the use of this drug are rare. Reviews after using Allergodil are positive; this drug is characterized as one of the best for relieving allergy symptoms.
  2. "Vibrocil." This is a combination product containing components with vasoconstrictor and antihistamine properties. "Vibrocil" is suitable for emergency blocking of allergic symptoms. It is recommended to use no longer than 7-10 days.
  3. “Sanorin Analergin” - these antiallergic nasal drops are used for adults and children to eliminate rhinitis. The product is soft and safe (if used for no more than two weeks).

Moisturizers

“Humer”, “Salin”, “Aqualor”, “Marimer”, “Aquamaris”, etc. - all these are the names of antiallergic nasal drops that belong to the group of moisturizers. These products contain sea water. Such drugs cannot cure allergies: they will only temporarily eliminate swelling, moisturizing the nasal mucosa and washing away allergens. Drugs in this group are absolutely safe and can be used by pregnant women and children.

“Humer,” according to patient reviews, is effective in treating sinusitis, relieves swelling, and removes mucus. This drug contains sterile and undiluted sea water. The product is easy to use. Can be used for children of one month of age. It is an ideal product for nasal hygiene.

"Aquamaris" is a solution of sea salt, disinfected and enriched with mineral salts. It can be used to treat infants. Many users speak very positively about the action of Aquamaris. But there are those who are disappointed, but for the most part these are those who expected a visible effect from this product. In fact, the drug is more of a hygienic solution than a medicinal one.

"Marimer" is a remedy for the treatment of runny nose and various diseases of the nasal cavity. It is used during hygiene procedures for infants. The drug cleans the nose very well and does not irritate the mucous membrane. Contains only sea and distilled water.

“Aqualor” moisturizes the mucous membrane, promoting its cleansing, and has an anti-edematous effect. It contains the same sea water with a solution of minerals and salts. "Aqualor" is available in various cans with different attachments, which makes it easier to use. This product has no contraindications for use.

Vasoconstrictor drugs

Vasoconstrictor and antiallergic nasal drops are intended for immediate relief from difficulty breathing and severe swelling. But you should not use them for more than 14 days, as they can be addictive.

Three main types of these drugs:

  • Short-acting (2-3 hours). One of the names of antiallergic nasal drops, related to vasoconstrictors and at the same time antihistamines, has already been mentioned above - this is “Vibrocil”. Also included in this group are Naphthyzin, Sanorin, Nazol and Naphazolin. The effect after their use comes quickly, but these drugs can be addictive and dry out the nasal mucosa, which is why they are not recommended for use for more than five days.
  • Medium duration (no more than 10 hours). “Xylometazoline” and “Otrivin” have a quick relief effect and a more gentle effect than previous drugs.
  • Long-lasting. A prominent representative of this group is “Nazivin”. It is well tolerated by patients, and only in rare cases has dry mucous membranes and a burning sensation been noted. The duration of action of the drugs is up to 16 hours.

Antibacterial drugs

These are antiallergic and anti-inflammatory nasal drops that contain an antibiotic. They are used only in cases where allergies are combined with a bacterial infection, otherwise they will only cause harm, reducing immunity.

One of the products belonging to this category is Cromohexal. It effectively fights bronchial asthma, food allergies, and chronic bronchitis.

Homeopathic medicines

These are 100% natural products. They contain extracts and extracts of calendula, St. John's wort, eucalyptus and sage and other plants, so people with seasonal allergies to herbs should treat them with caution so as not to cause complications of allergic rhinitis. Such drugs do not act for long and need to be instilled 5-6 times a day.

"Pinosol" - homeopathic nasal drops with an antiallergic effect, which facilitate the separation of mucus and have an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect. They contain natural essential and vegetable oils, so they are suitable for children from one year old. It is recommended to use it every three hours until you feel better, then switch to four times a day.

“Pinovit”, “Evkasept”, “Vitaon”, “Sinusan” - oil drops that reduce inflammation and swelling. The treatment regimen for all these drugs is the same - they are used no more than 4 times a day. The duration of the course is about 6 days.

How to properly use antiallergic nasal drops for adults and children

Before using these medications, you should clean your nasal cavity. This can be done with mineral water or saline solution. The patient assumes a position in which the head should be thrown back. After instillation, it is better to wait a few minutes so that the medicine does not leak out.

For infants, you can moisten an ear stick with the preparation and treat the nasal passages with it.

You can get rid of your addiction

As stated above, some antiallergic nasal drops can be addictive. When it appears, it is enough to switch to more gentle drugs, such as Vibrocil, and gradually reduce the dose.

Ideally, the use of antiallergic drops is best combined with the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The patient should reduce contact with the allergen as much as possible and be sure to follow the dosage of medications.

Types of nasal drops for allergies, rules of administration

Recently, nasal drops for allergies have become the main means of combating this disease for many allergy sufferers.

And although you are unlikely to be able to completely cure allergies with nasal drops, you can still reduce the symptoms of allergic reactions in the form of respiratory tract irritations.

Respiratory allergies

An allergic reaction that affects the respiratory organs is one of the most unpleasant diseases for humans.

The general well-being of patients does not suffer much from respiratory allergies, but at the same time, constant sneezing, nasal congestion, and mucous secretion significantly reduce performance and affect the deterioration of mood.

An allergic reaction can develop to pollen from flowering plants, house dust, proteins in animal saliva, various chemical compounds, and household detergents.

All this forces a person to look for effective and safe nasal drops for allergies, using which one will not be afraid to go out into nature and do household chores or professional activities.

Pharmaceutical companies produce dozens of drops for allergic respiratory reactions, differing in composition, mechanism and duration of action. When purchasing them, you should not trust the advice of neighbors or advertising, since one remedy cannot help all categories of patients, and it may help some patients, but not others.

Principles for choosing antihistamine nasal drops

An allergic reaction that occurs for the first time in any case requires a complete diagnosis before using medications. Without special tests, it is impossible to identify the allergen that affects the symptoms of the disease.

Nasal drops for allergies may contain components that can only intensify the manifestations of the disease; identifying the true allergen will prevent the purchase of a medicine that does not benefit the body.

Independent choice of a drug is not permissible even if we are talking about a baby. Many of the drugs are contraindicated in pediatric practice; their use will not alleviate the symptoms of the disease, but will only affect the appearance of undesirable reactions.

Nasal drops for allergies prescribed for the treatment of the disease are divided into several types:

  1. Vasoconstrictors;
  2. Antihistamines;
  3. Hormonal;
  4. Combined;
  5. Immunomodulatory.

The choice and prescription of nasal drops depends on the stage of the process (acute or chronic), the age of the patient, identified disorders in the functioning of the immune system, and the presence of secondary infections of the nasal cavity.

Some of the drugs are prescribed for the shortest possible time, others can be used for a long time - for months, for example, like Aqua Maris Sens spray.

At the beginning of therapy, an allergist may prescribe the combined use of several groups of pharmaceutical drugs, this allows for faster relief of all symptoms of the disease and prevents the development of severe complications, for example, anaphylactic shock.

Anti-allergenic drops can be produced in the form of sprays, which are easy to use and have a more prolonged effect. Despite the comfort of their use, sprays are recommended to be used for a short course - when traveling or during the most acute process of respiratory distress.

Vasoconstrictor drops for allergies

Vasoconstrictor nasal drops are usually prescribed during the acute stage of the disease. Their use allows you to quickly remove swelling, thereby reducing the amount of mucous discharge and relieving nasal congestion.

Nasal vasoconstrictors are used only as an emergency option; they are not recommended for use for more than five days, otherwise the symptoms of a runny nose may worsen and it will be more difficult for the sick person to completely get rid of the disease.

With the constant use of drops with vasoconstrictor components, the normal functioning of the walls of blood vessels is disrupted, as a result of which their expansion is removed only by selected drugs.

This category of drugs includes Naphthyzin, Galazolin, Nazivin.

There is a certain term among health workers - “naphthyzine addiction” - this is a condition in which a person uses Naphthyzine every day for a number of years, sometimes the daily dosage in such patients reaches one bottle.

Allergists recommend ALLERGONIX as an effective remedy for allergies. The product contains natural ingredients, living plant cells, and restores metabolic processes in the body. The drug underwent clinical tests for 8 years. ALL DETAILS HERE.

They are unable to stop the drug on their own - they develop a feeling of lack of air, severe headaches, and tinnitus.

In order not to become dependent on the dose of the drug when using vasoconstrictor drops, you must strictly follow the following rules:

  1. Treatment with vasoconstrictor drops should not exceed five days;
  2. The dosage indicated in the instructions or by the doctor must be strictly observed, especially for children;
  3. It is necessary to try to use drops only to relieve acute nasal breathing problems; to alleviate other manifestations of an allergic reaction, select another drug.

Antihistamines

Antihistamine nasal drops for allergies do not act on the elimination of the runny nose itself, but on the cause of its development, that is, they block the release of inflammatory mediators into the blood vessels.

Depending on the components included in the selected drug, it can be used for a long time or for several days.

Long-term use of antiallergic drops is prescribed if the patient suffers from a year-round runny nose, and the medication must be changed after a few months.

The modern pharmaceutical industry produces quite a lot of nasal drops, so choosing the right drug, even by trial and error, is quite possible.

Below are the most widely used and recommended by allergists nasal drops for allergic rhinitis.

Reduces secretion, relieves itching and can be used to eliminate symptoms of year-round rhinitis. Use is contraindicated for pregnant women and in the treatment of children under 4 years of age.

Allergodil has a long-lasting positive effect, so drops can be instilled only once a day.

For chronic rhinitis, an allergist prescribes drops for 6 months, then the drug is changed to a similar one. Allergodil can be used as a preventive measure for the possible development of allergic rhinitis.

Fenistil allergy drops can also be used to eliminate allergic rhinitis in young children, starting from one month. Fenistil has a pronounced therapeutic effect - the symptoms of rhinitis decrease 15 minutes after the drops hit the throat mucosa.

Available in the form of a spray and prescribed for the treatment of year-round rhinitis and hay fever.

This drug is not used to treat children under 6 years of age; a positive effect is observed within five minutes after use - congestion is eliminated, itching and sneezing are reduced. Levocabastine is part of the drug Tizin Allergy.

Stabilizes mast cell membranes, prevents the release of histamine and leukotrienes.

The drug can be used in drops and in the form of a spray; the drug is particularly effective when used in the treatment of the early stages of allergic reactions, that is, when there are no irreversible changes in the mucous membranes.

Kromhexal drops are used from the age of five. They are usually prescribed for at least one month. A pronounced effect when using Kromhexal is observed if the medicine is used for prophylactic purposes to prevent the development of seasonal rhinitis.

Reduce capillary permeability, eliminate the influence of specific antigens.

Zyrtec can also be used in the treatment of rhinitis caused by “cold allergy”. In the correct dosage, Zyrtec does not affect the appearance of sedation.

Can be used to eliminate rhinitis in children older than one year; relief from rhinitis symptoms is observed throughout the day.

A link to instructions for using the spray is provided below.

Immunomodulatory nasal drops

Immunomodulatory nasal drops are prescribed to stimulate the defenses of local immunity. Their use prevents the penetration of secondary pathogens and adjusts the mucous membrane of the nasal passages to normal functioning.

Nasal drops that provide a systemic effect on the body. The main effect of the drops begins to appear after about four days, so in case of an acute allergic process, it is necessary to prescribe another drug. It can be used in the treatment of children from the first days of their life.

Prevents the development of viral infection, partially stabilizes membranes. Prescribed for the treatment of allergies in combination with another drug.

Hormonal nasal drops

Nasal drops for allergies with hormonal components have a quick positive effect and are therefore used if no positive dynamics are observed with other treatment.

Hormonal drops relieve swelling and inflammation in a few minutes; they are not prescribed for a long time due to the possibility of addiction.

New generation drugs include Fluticasone and Avamys. They can be used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis in children starting from two years of age.

The positive effect develops over several days, so the presence of symptoms of the disease after instillation is not a reason to select another medicine.

Read in more detail - Avamis nasal spray instructions for use.

Combination drugs

Combination medications for the treatment of allergic rhinitis contain components that simultaneously relieve swelling, inflammation and prevent further development of symptoms of the disease.

Thanks to these properties, the desired effect occurs quickly and all worries of the sick person go away.

In the form of drops, it is used to eliminate signs of rhinitis in children under 1 year of age. The drug can be prescribed for the treatment of acute rhinitis, as a spray, for use only from 12 years of age.

Significantly facilitates nasal breathing and reduces the secretion of mucous secretions.

The drug should be used for no more than a week, then take a break for several days. The dosage, depending on age, is selected according to the instructions or after consultation with a doctor.

A complete list of nasal, eye and oral allergy drops is available here.

Treatment of allergic rhinitis does not consist only of using drops alone. The body of a sick person needs to be completely freed from the toxins present in it, it is necessary to increase the functioning of the immune system and, if possible, eliminate the influence of negative substances.

A certain role in the treatment of the disease is given to the cleanliness of the surrounding space - wet cleaning, air conditioners with filters can significantly reduce the manifestations of a runny nose.

A complete examination of the body will also help to cope with the disease, because taking nasal drops for allergies only provides temporary relief from the symptoms of the disease.

Allergy nasal drops for children and adults

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common allergic diseases. Nasal congestion combined with a runny nose, itching in the nasal passages, sneezing - all these are well-known manifestations of rhinitis. You can fight them in different ways, but the most effective is the use of local medications, and these are sprays and nasal drops for allergies.

Today, the variety of drugs on the pharmacological market is so high that it is very difficult to understand them on your own. This article will help the average person understand how and why certain means are used.

Before starting the review of drugs, it is worth noting that within the framework of this article (except for the section on children and special cases) there is no need to separate the concepts of “drops” and “spray” for the nose.

There is an opinion that any bottle that says “nasal drops” helps with a runny nose of any origin. But this is absolutely not true! All medications are divided into categories depending on the mechanism of action on the body and the effect they have.

Types of nasal drops for allergies

Each group of drugs is designed to eliminate a specific symptom or stop a pathological process.

Antihistamine drops

  • Allergodil (substance - azelastine);
  • Histimet, Reactin, Tizin Alergy (levocabastine).

One of the most commonly used drugs in allergology. The action is to block the effect of histamine on tissue. Thus, these are drops that relieve swelling of the nasal mucosa, itching, and sneezing.

Antihistamines are effective, non-addictive and do not dry out the mucous membranes.

Mast cell membrane stabilizers (MCMS)

  • Cromohexal, Cromoglin (cromoglycic acid).

This type of drops affects the “source” of histamine – the basophil (in other words, the mast cell). As a result of strengthening, the membrane of the latter does not rupture when exposed to the allergen, and histamine is not released.

Among the disadvantages of SMTC are insufficient knowledge of its action, slow (up to two weeks) onset of effect, and the possibility of developing a large number of adverse reactions.

Vasoconstrictor drops

  • Xymelin, Otrivin, Galazolin, ForNos (xylometazoline);
  • Nazivin, Afrin, Nazol, Otrivin Oxy (oxymetazoline);
  • Naphthyzin, Sanorin (naphazoline);
  • Faryal (indanazoline).

Anticongestants - this is the correct medical name for this group of drugs - can help relieve nasal congestion by constricting blood vessels and stopping the process of exudation (secretion of mucus).

Oil drops for the nose should be highlighted as a separate group in this section:

Both of these products are made from plant components (pine oil, mint, eucalyptus) and have anti-edematous, anti-inflammatory and slight vasoconstrictor effects.

The only drug that has a more or less similar effect is Rinofluimucil (only in the form of a spray), which is more of a combination drug. It contains acetylcysteine (as in the cough preparation “ACC”), which is capable of thinning mucus masses and facilitating their easier separation. However, this substance is an auxiliary, and the main active component - tuaminoheptane - belongs to the group of vasoconstrictors. This drug is actively used for sinusitis and asthma.

The drug Protargol, which is not inherently a vasoconstrictor, but has an astringent effect, can also be conditionally classified in this group. Its effects include relieving inflammation, antiseptic treatment of the nasal cavity, and reducing the intensity of mucus formation.

Saline solutions

  • Humer;
  • Aqua Lor;
  • Marimer;
  • Aqua Maris;
  • Otrivin Sea;
  • Dolphin (without herbs);
  • Physiometer.

This group of nasal products is literally a “lifeline” not only for allergy sufferers, but also for people with a runny nose in general. The preparations are “non-specific”, do not contain medicinal substances - most of them contain purified sea water.

Hormonal drops

First of all, it is important to note: there are no hormonal drugs in the form of nasal drops; they are all available in the form of sprays. In this article it is appropriate to provide only a list of the most popular:

The main effect of these drugs is to relieve inflammation of the mucous membrane.

Drugs based on glucocorticosteroids relieve inflammation by suppressing local immune reactions (which is why they are first-line drugs in the treatment of autoimmune diseases).

If an infection develops (and it is very easy to “catch” a runny nose, as you know), it will not be possible to notice it in time and quickly cure it; there is a risk of developing sinusitis, otitis, and upper respiratory tract diseases. In addition, uncontrolled use of hormones can lead to the development of a large number of side effects.

Combination drugs

  • Vibrocil (dimetindene + phenylephrine);
  • Grippocitron (the same);
  • AlergoMax (same);
  • Milt (same);
  • Eden Reno (same);
  • Adrianol (tramazoline + phenylephrine).

Combined nasal drops are a combination of a vasoconstrictor and an antihistamine. They are an optimal remedy for seasonal allergies and allergies to flowers, because... the combined decongestant effect of substances from two pharmacological groups is quite strong and copes with even a severe allergic reaction.

It cannot be said that these are non-addictive drops, but they can be used a little longer than pure decongestants.

Complex drops

Complex nasal drops are, in fact, the same combination drugs, but made independently. Is it worth making nasal drops yourself? Everyone must answer this question for themselves, remembering the lack of sterile conditions, high-precision measuring containers and instruments, as well as professional skills and knowledge.

In case the verdict is “homemade!”, here is an approximate recipe for complex nasal drops for allergies with diphenhydramine:

  • Base or foundation: saline solution warmed to room temperature (NaCl 0.9% 5 ml;
  • Antihistamine: diphenhydramine 1% 2 ml;
  • Anticongestant: oxymetazoline 0.1% 5 ml.

Nasal filters

  • Prevalin;
  • Nazaval.

These are barrier drugs that form a film when they enter the nasal cavity and thereby prevent allergens from entering the mucous membrane and blood. And because there is no contact with the irritant, and there is no allergic reaction.

Homeopathic drops

  • Cinnabsin;
  • Delufen;
  • Euphorbium Compositum.

There is no reliable data on the mechanism by which homeopathic drops act and the effects they provide.

Attention to detail

In the previous section, essentially only the names of nasal drops for allergies were presented. It is important to understand that each medicine has its own contraindications and side effects, dosage and age restrictions.

Preparations for adults

For adult allergy sufferers, the modern market provides a huge selection of medications.

500 rubles (rinsing device, 30 powders)

During pregnancy and breastfeeding

To choose a drug suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, you need to proceed from the thesis “everything that is not permitted is prohibited.” It is permissible to use:

  • any saline solutions for rinsing the nose;
  • products whose active ingredient is naphazoline (if absolutely necessary).

Allergy nasal drops for children

Very few drugs are approved for newborns:

Nasal drops for allergies for children from 2 to 6 years old are often designated by special names:

From 6 years of age it is permissible to use the following drops:

Price-quality ratio

Are the best drops always expensive? Not always, but often. And this is understandable - the higher the price of the drug, the purer it is, the better the raw materials used for it. But sometimes buyers have to overpay solely for the brand.

Inexpensive drops that are worthy competitors of expensive ones:

Domestic nasal drops exist. Here are some of them:

Rules for using drops

For adults and children over 5 years of age:

  1. Clean the nasal passages (it is better to use a saline solution);
  2. Tilt your head back a little;
  3. Instill the medicine.

In a child under 5 years old:

  1. Warm the drops to room temperature;
  2. Clear the nasal passages;
  3. Lay the child on his back, turn his head to one side;
  4. Place drops into one nasal passage (if a pipette is used, it must be thoroughly rinsed, poured with boiling water and not allowed to come into contact with the walls of the nasal passages), leave the head in this position;
  5. Turn your head in the other direction and repeat the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and sometimes it’s even necessary. To achieve the fastest possible effect, in case of severe disease, as well as when other symptoms occur, you need to use new generation systemic antihistamines (Erius, Telfast, Xizal, Fexofast, Dezal).

In this situation, first of all, it is necessary to stop contact with the allergen - minimize going outside if you have hay fever, avoid contact with animals if you are allergic to them, use vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters, etc. The second step is to rinse the nose with saline solutions. When the nasal passages are thoroughly rinsed, it is necessary to instill an anticongestant and then an antihistamine.

If allergic rhinitis occurs with predominantly nasal congestion, the use of combination medications is recommended. If none of the remedies and actions help, you should consult a doctor.

Use saline solutions for rinsing, take antihistamines in other forms - tablets, syrups. As a “radical” therapy, ASIT is recommended during periods of non-exacerbation of allergies.

On the Internet you can find many recipes and miracle cures. However, none of them have been proven to be effective. In case of allergies, and especially with hay fever, taking any herbal components may result in not just a lack of effect, but a deterioration of the condition due to another allergic reaction. Therefore, the use of folk recipes is undesirable.

Reviews from doctors and allergy sufferers about nasal drops

There is no drug that would be characterized by all people in the same way. Each medicine has its own audience of “fans” and “detractors”. There are a large number of negative reviews of anticongestants from patients, especially xylometazoline - sneezing, increased rhinorrhea, the appearance of conjunctivitis when using products based on this substance. But many of them are associated more with errors in use (overly frequent or prolonged use, leading to addiction, lack of effect from the drug and the development of side effects).

Doctors, for their part, for the most part complain about the uncontrolled use of drugs for the common cold, which leads to the difficulty of selecting therapy when an allergy sufferer goes to the hospital.

Thus, nasal drops for allergies is a very broad topic. More and more new drugs are appearing on the market every day, and advertising is becoming more aggressive. However, the basic postulates remain unchanged - the selection of a drug should be based on the mechanism of development of the disease, the severity of symptoms and the general condition of the allergic person’s body.

Comments to the article: 3

I always use nasal drops with an antihistamine, it helps better, I have a very strong allergy to flowering in the spring, so I usually use hormonal nasal drops.

I sat on these drops for so many years that I decided it was time to finish. The allergist suggested that I do ASIT, and I agreed. The method turned out to be very effective; after the second course I stopped using drops, because my nose could breathe freely even without them, even at the peak of flowering. But the third course was still prescribed, the doctor said that this was for a more sustainable result.

Nasal drops for allergies: list of sprays for children, adults

Allergic rhinitis is when you periodically experience a runny nose, nasal congestion, and itching. It appears after working in a dusty room, contact with animal fur, or during the flowering season of some plants. This disease is also indicated by attacks of sneezing, especially in the morning, for no apparent reason. You should also be examined for allergic rhinitis if your sense of smell has “disappeared” or significantly deteriorated.

What does modern pharmaceuticals offer?

The following groups of drugs are effectively used against allergies:

  • Local antihistamines.
  • Vasoconstrictors (decongestants).
  • Preparations based on saline solutions.
  • Mast cell membrane stabilizers.
  • Hormonal nasal drops for allergies (their active ingredients are glucocorticoids, synthetic analogues of those hormones that are produced in the human adrenal glands).
  • Immunomodulators.

Local allergy medications are available in two dosage forms: drops and sprays. The former are more in demand in childhood. Sprays are rarely used in children under 3 years of age. This is explained by the shorter auditory tube (communication between the nasopharynx and ear) of babies. It turns out that when using such a medicine, high pressure is created, and drops from the bottle, and with them the contents of the nasopharynx, can be carried into the middle ear, causing inflammation (otitis).

How to put nasal drops correctly

We will write the names of nasal drops for allergies a little later - we will tell you how to properly drop them into the nose. It is precisely because of ignorance of these rules that drops may not have the desired effect.

  • Before instilling the main drug, rinse your nose. To do this, you need saline drops or a saline solution, which you then need to blow your nose. This removes allergens from the mucous membrane.
  • Before instilling medicinal drops, you need to lie down.
  • Having placed the drops deep into the nasal passage (some drugs are equipped with a special pipette), turn your head in the same direction and slightly up. You need to lie down like this for 10 minutes, do the same with the other nostril. This way the medicine will reach the communication (ostium) between the nose and the maxillary sinus. This is especially important for vasoconstrictor drops.
  • If several drugs are prescribed at once, and among them there are vasoconstrictors, they should be used first. They, by briefly eliminating swelling, open the anastomosis between the nasal and maxillary cavities, as a result of which the main drug can affect a large surface of the mucous membrane.

General principles of treatment of allergic rhinitis

For any allergy - whether to ragweed, dust, or other substances, it is important:

  • Stop the action of the allergen. Optimally, this is a change of place of work or a move (at least temporarily) to an area where such plants do not bloom (or do not grow at all). Daily wet cleaning of the room, use of air humidifiers and air filters, elimination of household mites by avoiding natural fillings of pillows and blankets, limiting contact with pets and conducting allergy screenings to identify household and food allergens and avoiding contact with them.
  • The use of local or systemic medications. Locally - these are drops and sprays. Systemically - these are tablets or injections of GCS, cromones or antihistamines. Almost all patients who have difficulty breathing through their nose and who cannot sleep normally need antihistamines, better than the latest generation, which do not cause drowsiness: Fexofenadine, Cetrin, Zodak, Erius.
  • Allergen-specific immunotherapy.
  • If allergic rhinitis is seasonal and occurs at the same time, then until the allergy has developed into “full strength”, use Prevalin spray (for children 6-12 years old - Prevalin Kids). It consists of a combination of oils and emulsifiers, which, upon contact with the mucous membrane, take on a gel-like form. This creates a barrier that allergens cannot overcome. How to treat a child

We offer the following regimen for treating children with allergies:

  1. Rinsing the nose with saline solutions: Aqua Maris drops, Humer spray, Aqualor mini or, if the nose is dry and there are crusts there - Aqualor soft, Physiomer. You need to rinse well, every day, especially after returning from the street.
  2. If the child is over 6 years old, before expected contact with the allergen (before going outside, if allergic to flowering), bury Prevalin in the nose.
  3. If rhinitis is not year-round, but seasonal, conduct a course of treatment with Derinat or IRS-19 ahead of time (about 2 weeks in advance).
  4. At the first symptoms, introduce a hypoallergenic diet, and 1.5 hours after eating, give sorbents (Enterosgel, White Coal or Smecta) in an age-specific dosage.
  5. Use vasoconstrictors in children under 3 years of age in the form of drops. A good remedy is Nazivin, which has a special curved pipette, the tip of which should be directed towards the anastomosis between the nose and the maxillary sinus. Do not forget that vasoconstrictor drugs cannot be used for longer than 5 days. If congestion is severe, start with Vibrocil drops.
  6. If sneezing and heavy discharge predominate, consult an ENT doctor about the use of antihistamine drops, for example, Cromohexal or Lecrolin.
  7. From the first day, add systemic antihistamines to therapy. For example, Fenistil or Zodak. Consult your doctor first.
