Ergoferon pros and cons

Ergoferon, reviews of doctors and patients about the antiviral drug

Modern pharmacology offers a large selection of immunomodulatory agents. One of them is Ergoferon. How does this drug work and in what cases is it used? Is it prescribed to children?

Table of contents:

What do doctors say about the medicine?

About the drug, indications

Ergoferon received a large number of positive reviews. Widely used to treat viral diseases in children and adults. The good composition allows it to be used in children from 6 months of age. The main thing is to start treatment on time and strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations.

Ergoferon is a modern antiviral drug for the treatment of a number of diseases. The main active ingredients include antibodies to interferon gamma, histamine and CD4. Available in the form of tablets, 20 pieces per pack.

The danger of a viral infection lies in the possibility of complications. This happens with reduced immunity. A decrease in the body’s protective properties can occur for a variety of reasons: surgical interventions, chronic diseases, stress, lack of sleep. The risk group includes children, the older generation and pregnant women. Therefore, the body often needs additional support.

The medicine is indicated for use in the following cases:

  • ARVI
  • influenza (type A and B)
  • herpes virus infection
  • intestinal viral infections
  • hemorrhagic fever
  • enteroviral meningitis
  • pneumonia
  • tick-borne encephalitis

Most often, the drug is prescribed in cases of respiratory viral diseases. It can also be prescribed as a complex therapy for bacterial infections. It has antihistamine, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.

The best effect can be obtained by taking the medicine when the first symptoms of the disease are detected. To achieve results, you need to take 4 tablets at intervals of 30 minutes in the first two hours. During the rest of the day you need to take 3 more tablets. Then the dosage is reduced to 3 doses per day. The medicine must be placed in the oral cavity and dissolved until completely dissolved.

The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor. Depending on the situation, the drug can be combined with other symptomatic and antibacterial agents.

For more detailed information about the dangers of influenza and the treatment of this disease, watch the video:

The principle of operation of the product

The operating principle of Ergoferon is to accurately hit the target with its main components. There is an interaction between antibodies to histamine and histamine receptors. Antibodies to interferon have an antiviral effect. Antibodies to additional cellular receptors (CD4) enhance the effect.

The difference between Ergoferon and other immunomodulatory agents is that it also has an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory effect. Thanks to antibodies to histamine, vascular permeability is reduced and swelling of the mucous membranes is eliminated. This significantly alleviates the patient’s condition with respiratory diseases.

Ergoferon activates the body's protective properties and stimulates the production of its own interferon. There is an increase in immunity and the fight against viruses.

During the experiments, it was discovered that thanks to antibodies to interferon, human biological processes are stimulated. Persons taking the drug have a much lower risk of complications in the form of bronchitis, sinusitis and other things.

Ergoferon is also often prescribed for exacerbation and frequent relapses of herpes. As a result of taking the medicine, ulcers near the mouth go away much faster. Some patients claim that if you start treatment at the first discomfort on the lips, you can completely avoid swelling.

The drug has virtually no contraindications. Not recommended only for persons with individual sensitivity. It is highly secure.

Ergoferon for children, scope of application

Due to its mild action and excellent tolerability, Ergoferon is approved for use in children from six months of age.

It is prescribed to children in the following cases:

  • as a prophylaxis against ARVI and influenza
  • during epidemics of viral infections
  • for intestinal infections caused by viruses (enterovirus, adenovirus)
  • for the treatment of herpes
  • treatment of encephalitis after an insect bite

As is the case with adult patients, the drug is most often prescribed to children for the treatment and prevention of colds. The components of the drug are absolutely safe and do not have a negative effect on the growing body.

However, you should not self-medicate. Some children are not suitable for immunostimulating medications. In addition, the composition contains glucose. This means Ergoferon should not be taken by those babies who have problems with the absorption of this element by the intestines.

The drug causes minimal side effects. If the dosage is correct, the only thing that can happen is an allergic reaction. Although this happens quite rarely. In this case, you will have to stop the course of treatment.

Small children should not put the tablet in their mouth to dissolve. For kids, dissolve the product in a small amount of clean boiled water and give it from a spoon. The maximum dose should be taken on the first day of the onset of the disease. The exact amount of the drug is determined by the doctor.

Ergoferon - reviews from doctors and patients about the effectiveness of the drug

The undoubted advantage of Ergoferon is its wide spectrum of action and minimal number of contraindications and side effects.

Many doctors and patients note the following positive aspects:

  1. Availability in pharmacies
  2. Moderate cost
  3. Convenience of reception. Simply dissolve the tablet in your mouth. If you need to give it to a child, it dissolves easily in water.
  4. Pleasant taste. The product has a sweet taste, which means that it will be easy for children to take this medicine.
  5. Effectiveness. Most patients noted the effectiveness of the drug. Recovery occurs faster, and severe complications do not develop.

In addition, Ergoferon is effective against influenza type A. It is able to affect new varieties of the virus. Can be used in children with bronchial asthma, obstructive bronchitis.

Among the specialists there are also opponents, as is the case with any pharmacological agent. In contrast, they put the no less famous Interferon. Some patients claim that they did not notice an impressive result.

However, Ergoferon is a safe antiviral drug with a scanty number of contraindications and has no complete analogues. In any case, before the appointment, consultation with a specialist is required.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I myself use Ergoferon when the first signs of ARVI begin. If you start taking this drug from the first day of the onset of the disease according to the scheme, then the development of the disease stops and the consequences are not so negative. I think that Ergoferon is effective.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I somehow didn’t trust homeopathy before, but I fell for the laudatory odes about ergoferon. Complete disappointment. It doesn’t heal, it doesn’t relieve pain symptoms, it doesn’t do anything at all, whether you drink it or not. And I had read before that the drug was useless, but, apparently, I had to step on the rake myself.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I don’t take Ergoferon and I wouldn’t recommend it to my friends. My husband had to go on a business trip urgently, but he didn’t feel well. The pharmacy advised me to take Ergoferon and everything would be fine. He started chewing these pills, a fever appeared, it was already the third day, two days later he was on a business trip and the temperature was not falling, they stopped Ergoferon and started taking antibiotics, thank God at least they didn’t fail. My opinion is that ergoferon can be chewed for a year as a prophylaxis and still ARVI will be guaranteed, because there is no evidence about the effectiveness of ergoferon.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

Just now I was being treated with a new remedy)) I got my feet wet and thought it would be okay. And the next morning I started sneezing, but that’s it, I drove to work and back home. The doctor prescribed ergoferon, but by that time I was so pressed, I didn’t even understand what I was taking - my mother came to treat me. But it went away surprisingly quickly, the crisis passed that same evening, I was all wet, but the temperature subsided. The next day I received further treatment. They forced me to take these pills for two more days, and it’s good that it was like that)) after that I became as good as new. You need to stock up just in case, it is advisable to take it in the first hours, the sooner the better.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I don’t know how ergoferon could help. A friend of mine took it with her whole family, her husband, she and the child, so all three of them were treated with antibiotics. I decided to look at the composition and there are such degrees that if you calculate mathematically 1 molecule of the active substance there are tablets.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I have a very sensitive stomach, I try not to take any strong medications, there is no talk of antibiotics at all. And Ergoferon http://www.ergoferon.ru/instruction/ is generally accepted well by my body, no negative reaction from the stomach and, most importantly, it helps me.

Re: Ergoferon, reviews from doctors and patients about the antiviral.

I used to be skeptical about drugs such as antivirals. I’ve heard a lot about how the body supposedly stops coping with diseases on its own because of them. But it turned out that in reality this is not at all the case. I treated my daughter with it, since there were no other options, since she was 8 months old at that time. After half a day, her body was already on the mend and she began to eat and drink, although she had categorically refused to do so before. And the body did not weaken, as I thought before; on the contrary, I would say, it even became stronger. Now I understand that you don’t need to listen to everyone, but trust doctors.

Ergoferon tablets: an integrated approach to the treatment of infection

There are many diseases rampant across the globe, but the most common among them are common respiratory infections. Year after year, influenza and ARVI occupy leading positions in the number of victims. Every generally healthy adult gets a cold on average 2-4 times in 12 months, and children sometimes even break all records, “catching” viruses up to 12 or even more times a year. Not everyone can look at the viral expanse and expect favors from nature. And then various medications come to the rescue, and one of them is Ergoferon. What kind of drug is this? And should I take it?

Before you continue reading: If you are looking for an effective method of getting rid of a runny nose, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis or colds, then be sure to look at this section of the site after reading this article. This information has helped so many people, we hope it will help you too! So, now back to the article.

Indeed, there is a very popular saying among people about “treated and untreated flu.” Like, if you do therapy, the disease will go away in a week, but if you leave it to its own devices, you’ll get back on your feet in seven days. How true is this approach? We answer: of course, there is, there is a healthy grain in it. But…

The fact is that without exception, all respiratory viruses that provoke the development of influenza and ARVI are self-limiting. This means that they live very short - usually no more than 7-12 days. And a person who has a cold will certainly recover according to the laws of nature and microbiology after a week. We emphasize: he will recover from colds and flu. But this does not mean that he is 100% likely to be healthy. “How so?” - the reader will be puzzled. Let's explain: it's easy.

Any cold, even the most trivial one at first glance, is a blow to the immune system. The body's defenses are mobilized, trying to repel the attack of viruses... and become extremely vulnerable to other pathogens. This is especially true for those whose immunity is initially reduced: children, the elderly and chronically ill people. Therefore, after seven days, some viruses will die, but bacteria or other viruses can settle. This means that instead of recovery, the patient faces a new test. To prevent events from unfolding this way, the cold should still be treated. Ergoferon is one of the safest medications for influenza and ARVI, which will be discussed in our article.

“Tricky” composition of Ergoferon: we analyze the instructions

Reading the instructions for use of Ergoferon, many buyers cannot understand absolutely nothing in it, including the composition of the drug. And all because Ergoferon cannot be called a classic allopathic medicine. Firstly, Ergoferon does not contain synthetic derivatives or plant components, but antibodies, and antibodies of three types: to gamma interferon, histamine and another with a “strange” name for the uninitiated eye, “antibodies to CD4”. We will certainly dwell on their features a little later.

Secondly, Ergoferon is a homeopathic medicine. The instructions for use mention this in passing: under a small footnote placed above the dosages of active ingredients there is an inscription that is not very noticeable at first glance. She explains that each component is applied to lactose (that is, sugar) in the form of a mixture of water-active dilutions 10012,iraz.

Now let's move on to the most interesting thing: the peculiarities of Ergoferon's action.

How does he work?

So what is the job of antibodies? Let's look at it in order and start with what antibodies actually are.

Antibodies are a special class of proteins that are found on the surface of white blood cells, leukocytes, or rather their varieties - B lymphocytes, as well as in blood serum and even in tissue fluid.

Antibodies are able to bind to specific molecules - antigens. Bacteria and viruses have their own “personal” antigens, which neutralize antibodies, as a result of which the microbes lose activity and die. Thus, antibodies are one of the most important factors of immunity, which is used to find and neutralize foreign objects that have entered the body.

Antibodies to gamma interferon, which are part of Ergoferon, stimulate the formation of interferons. Interferons are also proteins that are released by cells in response to the penetration of viral particles. They prevent their reproduction and thus stop the viral infection. Thus, due to the content of antibodies to gamma interferon, Ergoferon has a pronounced antiviral effect. Its activity extends to a variety of respiratory viruses, including:

  • influenza A and B viruses;
  • parainfluenza viruses;
  • adenoviruses;
  • herpes viruses, including genital, orolabial (popularly “cold sores”), chickenpox, shingles, infectious mononucleosis;
  • coronaviruses;
  • rotaviruses;
  • enteroviruses;
  • caliciviruses;
  • tick-borne encephalitis viruses.

Antibodies to CD4 have a complex mechanism of action, which is often difficult for doctors to understand. Figuratively speaking, they increase the activity of special receptors that are located on cells involved in the antiviral immune response. Thanks to this, immune protection increases, and the antiviral activity of other components of Ergoferon also increases.

And the third active ingredient, antibodies to histamine, help suppress the release of histamine from special mast cells. This substance belongs to the mediators (stimulants) of allergies and inflammation. As soon as the amount of histamine in tissues decreases, the severity of the inflammatory process decreases, and some cold symptoms are alleviated: runny nose, cough, sneezing and nasal congestion.

Thus, Ergoferon acts on the immune system from several sides at once, and simultaneously exhibits four effects:

  • antiviral;
  • immunomodulatory;
  • antiallergic;
  • anti-inflammatory.

The indications for its use are based on the complex properties of Ergoferon.

Indications for use of Ergoferon

The drug has an extremely wide range of uses. Indications for use of Ergoferon:

  1. Prevention and treatment of influenza caused by viruses A and B. Let us add that Ergoferon also acts on mutating strains of viruses, due to which it is not addictive, unlike, for example, Rimantadine.
  2. Prevention and treatment of colds (ARVI), regardless of what virus caused it. Again, with respect to respiratory viruses, Ergoferon’s ability to act on strains modified in the process of evolution remains, due to which addiction does not develop to the drug.
  3. Prevention and treatment of infections caused by herpes viruses. It is worth noting here that the group of herpes viruses is distinguished by its enviable diversity: it includes the usual “herpes on the lips” and the annoying genital herpes. In addition, the chickenpox virus also belongs to the family of herpes viruses, so traditionally childhood chickenpox can also be treated with Ergoferon. Let's add here the lesser-known herpes viruses that provoke shingles and infectious mononucleosis, which occurs in children as a bacterial sore throat and should in no case be treated with antibiotics.
  4. Prevention and treatment of acute intestinal infections caused by viruses. Parents rarely know about this indication of Ergoferon and pediatricians often forget. Meanwhile, the antiviral effect of Ergoferon against intestinal viruses allows us to consider it as a remedy that is part of a complex treatment for poisoning.
  5. Prevention and treatment of meningitis, tick-borne encephalitis.

In addition, Ergoferon is also used in the complex therapy of certain bacterial infections, as well as for the prevention of complications of viral infections.

Ergoferon for poisoning

Separately, I would like to talk about the possibility of using Ergoferon for intestinal infections, especially in pediatric practice. The fact is that in 70% of cases, poisoning in children develops as a result of infection with viruses that are tropic to the intestinal mucosa. These are adenoviruses, rotaviruses, caliciviruses, noroviruses and some other pathogens. Due to the presence of antibodies to gamma interferon and CD4 in Ergoferon, the drug is distinguished by fairly high activity against this group of viral particles. And although they, like other respiratory and intestinal viruses, die after 7–10 days, additional outside help will not hurt the body weakened by poisoning. This is especially true for children whose age-impaired immunity makes it difficult to cope with the viral load.

Ergoferon does not interact with any other drugs, so it can be safely combined with drugs that are usually used to treat poisoning: antidiarrheals, sorbents, probiotics, and so on.

Combination treatment of bacterial infections

Ergoferon is often prescribed in complex treatment regimens for certain infectious diseases caused by bacteria. In particular, the drug is used in the treatment of whooping cough, pneumonia, including that caused by so-called atypical bacteria - chlamydia, mycoplasma and legionella.

In addition, Ergoferon is sometimes used as a means to prevent the development of bacterial infections against the background of ARVI or influenza. In such cases, they count on a pronounced immunomodulatory effect of the drug, allowing the body to cope with a viral infection and prevent the development of a secondary, bacterial one.

How to take Ergoferon?

Ergoferon has only one release form - lozenges. It is intended for the treatment of patients regardless of age: both adults and infants over 1 month. What is the regimen for taking Ergoferon and how should children take it?

Everything is quite simple. Like all other homeopathic remedies, Ergoferon should be dissolved in the mouth for as long as it takes until it is completely dissolved. It is important to follow the rule of separate use with other medications, food or drinks (except water). When absorbed in the mouth, the drug is absorbed sublingually, that is, under the tongue. It is in this area that the oral mucosa is very rich in blood vessels. The active substances are directly absorbed in them. Thus, the Ergoferon tablet is absorbed into the blood, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract. If you dissolve the medicine and chew a bun at the same time, absorption is impaired and only part of the drug enters the bloodstream.

It is extremely important to use Ergoferon according to the instructions, that is, between meals.

Dosing the medicine correctly

The dosage of Ergoferon for adults and children is simple and clear: regardless of the patient’s age, the single dose is one tablet. It must be kept in the mouth until completely dissolved. According to the instructions for use, Ergoferon can be prescribed to children older than 6 months. Young patients who do not yet know how to dissolve tablets take the drug using a special, “parental” technology. It is used not only in the case of Ergoferon, but also with any other homeopathic medicines prescribed in early childhood.

Everything is extremely simple: the Ergoferon tablet should be dissolved in boiled or purified water as thoroughly as possible and given to the child to drink. Of course, the drug should be taken between feedings.

Treatment of acute respiratory infection

The treatment regimen with Ergoferon depends on the purpose for which it is used. If the drug is used to treat any acute infections, a loading dose should be taken first. In the first two hours of treatment, tablets are taken frequently, every 30 minutes. Then the frequency of use is reduced to three times a day at regular intervals. By the way, on the first day the “three times” rule remains valid, that is, you first need to take the medicine every 30 minutes for two hours, and then on the same day the tablets are dissolved three more times at equal intervals. In a similar way, schemes for the use of all homeopathic medicines are drawn up, which in acute conditions are always prescribed in loading doses at the beginning of treatment.

Ergoferon is continued until complete recovery.

Prevention of ARVI and influenza

Ergoferon is also used for the prevention of respiratory diseases in children and adults. In such cases, the drug can be used for a long time, especially when it is prescribed to frequently ill children. The duration of the course of prophylaxis is determined, as a rule, by the attending physician. It can range from one month to six months. Ergoferon is often used throughout the entire epidemiological season, while influenza and ARVI continue to attack. The average dose of Ergoferon for the prevention of colds or flu is one or two tablets per day.

Deterioration? This is good!

It happens that while taking Ergoferon or other homeopathic remedies, instead of the desired improvement, the patient receives an increase in the symptoms of the disease. In such cases, there is no need to worry and swallow pill after pill, trying to “stop” the disease. Initial deterioration while taking homeopathy is an excellent prognostic sign. It indicates that the body “accepts” the rules of treatment with small doses and is ready to recover according to their requirements.

What should you do if, after a shock dose of Ergoferon, your nose begins to run like a spring stream, and your throat begins to irritate with terrible force? Nothing! Be glad that there is a solution to your cold, and the disease is about to begin to lose ground. If the deterioration is so obvious that it becomes difficult to tolerate, you can take additional symptomatic medications, for example:

  • lozenges for sore throat (Strepsils, Septolete);
  • nasal drops (for example, Nazivin, Nazol);
  • a complex hot drink for colds, acting simultaneously on all symptoms (for example, the same Coldrex or others like it).

Note that the absence of deterioration cannot be considered as evidence of the “ineffectiveness” of homeopathic medicines.

Ergoferon or Anaferon: two links of one chain

Either difficulties in the composition of Ergoferon, or similar names, or the same manufacturer’s emblem on the packages have become the reason that many consumers confuse this drug with Anaferon or are trying to figure out which of the two brothers is better and more effective. In fact, Ergoferon and Anaferon are really very similar. Both drugs are produced by the Russian company Materia Medica, which specializes in the production of homeopathic remedies. Both drugs contain antibodies in high dilutions. And yet, there is a difference between them.

Firstly, Anaferon is a single drug. It contains only antibodies to gamma interferon. Ergoferon, as we have already described above, includes three types of antibodies, including antiallergic ones.

Secondly, Anaferon has two forms of release: for children and adults. Children's Anaferon can be given to children from 1 month of life. Ergoferon tablets are available in only one form, which is prescribed to both adults and young patients. At the same time, Ergoferon is approved for use by children older than six months.

And thirdly, the additional inclusion of two types of antibodies in Ergoferon undoubtedly increases its activity, in particular, immunomodulatory and antiallergic. Ergoferon stimulates the immune defense more intensively than Anaferon and more effectively relieves some cold symptoms, in particular, runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion.

And yet, both the first and second drugs have every right to the trust and even love of patients. Both products are equally safe and quite effective.

Side effects and contraindications of Ergoferon

Every drug user is concerned about the issue of side effects. And, by the way, the answer to whether any drug has adverse effects not related to treatment will always be the same: yes, there are. A priori and at all times. The drug is not sugar, although, by the way, it can cause side effects in diabetics. The drug clearly affects vital processes, unless, of course, it is a dummy placebo. But you don’t want to buy a placebo, much less be treated with it, do you? Then you need to come to terms with the potential existence of adverse effects with absolutely any drug.

There are no exceptions to this rule. Even the most “natural”, herbal, Ayurvedic and, of course, homeopathic preparations can have their own skeleton in the closet. Yes, let’s not argue: when treated with homeopathy, the likelihood of developing side effects is the lowest. And yet it is there. By the way, herbal products, despite the halo of “safety” that hovers around their belonging to the world of flora, can actually be even more dangerous than synthetic ones. An example of this is cardiac glycosides. Foxglove preparations are absolutely of plant origin, but in case of overdose they can kill not only a sluggish core, but also a vigorous medium-weight horse. But let's return to homeopathy.

For all products created on the basis of the teachings of low-dose therapy, there is one common side effect and one common contraindication. Taking Ergoferon, as well as Anaferon and other homeopathic remedies, may be accompanied by the development of side effects in the form of hypersensitivity reactions, that is, an individual allergic reaction to the active substance or auxiliary components of the drug. This also leads to a general contraindication for all: Ergoferon should not be taken by adults and children who are sensitive to the antibodies it contains. In addition, given that the tablet contains the milk sugar lactose, Ergoferon is contraindicated for people intolerant to this carbohydrate. Typically, it is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lactase.

It is easy to understand that you or your child has a lactase deficiency: in this case, intolerance to any milk develops. If you eat dairy products and only enjoy it, Ergoferon will most likely be tolerated perfectly, since the drug has a very high safety profile. So high that taking Ergoferon is not contraindicated even during pregnancy, however, additional consultation with a doctor in such cases will not hurt.

Ergoferon analogs

The topic of the existence of analogues of any medicine has become mega-popular today. Most often, it is inspired by the search for cheaper domestic or imported generics instead of original drugs. But let’s not bore the reader’s attention: neither cheaper nor more expensive analogues of Ergoferon exist in nature. This is a Russian original drug, the idea of which no one except the Materia Medica company could turn into reality.

Speculation about the identity of Ergoferon with many other antiviral drugs, in particular, Kagocel, Arbidol or other cold medications, as well as the search for an answer to the question “which of them is better,” should be abandoned once and for all. Moreover, Kagocel and Arbidol are traditional synthetic drugs with a usual therapeutic dosage. And for buyers who are still trying to find a non-existent black cat in a dark room, we still recommend that they stop searching and buy Ergoferon without doubt or hesitation.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The spectrum of pharmacological activity of ergoferon includes antiviral, immunomodulatory, antihistamine, and anti-inflammatory.

The effectiveness of the use of ergoferon components in viral infectious diseases has been experimentally and clinically proven: influenza A (seasonal influenza, avian influenza A/H5N1 and swine influenza A/H1N1) and influenza B, acute respiratory viral infections (caused by parainfluenza viruses, adenoviruses, respiratory syncitial viruses, coronaviruses), herpesvirus infections (labial herpes, ophthalmogerpes, genital herpes, girrhing herpes, chickenpox, infectious mononucleosis), acute intestinal infections of viral etiology (caused by caliciviruses, coronaviruses, rotaviruses, enteroviruses), enteros), enteros), enteros). RUSY and meningococcal meningitis, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, tick-borne encephalitis.

Ergoferon is used in the complex treatment of bacterial infections (pseudotuberculosis, whooping cough, yersiniosis, pneumonia of various etiologies, including atypical pathogens (M.pneumoniae, C.Pneumoniae, Legionella spp.), is used to prevent bacterial complications of viral infections, prevents the development of superinfections. Use of the drug in pre- and post-vaccination period increases the effectiveness of vaccination, provides nonspecific prevention of ARVI and influenza at the time of formation of post-vaccination immunity.Ergoferon has preventive effectiveness against ARVI of non-influenza etiology, prevents the development of intercurrent diseases in the post-vaccination period.

The components included in Ergoferon have a single mechanism of action in the form of increasing the functional activity of the CD4 receptor, receptors for interferon gamma (IFN-?) and histamine, respectively; which is accompanied by a pronounced immunotropic effect.

It has been experimentally proven that antibodies to interferon gamma: increase the expression of IFN-γ, IFN α/β, as well as interleukins associated with them (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, etc.), improve the ligand-receptor interaction of IFN, restore cytokine status; normalize the concentration and functional activity of natural antibodies to IFN-γ, which are an important factor in the body’s natural antiviral tolerance; stimulate interferon-dependent biological processes: induction of expression of major histocompatibility complex type I, II antigens and Fc receptors, activation of monocytes, stimulation of the functional activity of NK cells, regulation of immunoglobulin synthesis, activating a mixed Th1 and Th2 immune response.

Antibodies to CD4, probably being allosteric modulators of this receptor, regulate the functional activity of the CD4 receptor, which leads to an increase in the functional activity of CD4 lymphocytes, normalization of the CD4/CD8 immunoregulatory index, as well as the subpopulation composition of immunocompetent cells (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD20) .

Antibodies to histamine modify histamine-dependent activation of peripheral and central H1 receptors and thus reduce the tone of bronchial smooth muscles, reduce capillary permeability, which leads to a reduction in the duration and severity of rhinorrhea, swelling of the nasal mucosa, coughing and sneezing, as well as a decrease in the severity of associated the infectious process of allergic reactions by suppressing the release of histamine from mast cells and basophils, the production of leukotrienes, the synthesis of adhesion molecules, reducing the chemotaxis of eosinophils and platelet aggregation in reactions to contact with an allergen.

The combined use of Ergoferon components is accompanied by an increase in the antiviral activity of its components.

Pharmacokinetics

The sensitivity of modern physicochemical methods of analysis (gas-liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) does not allow assessing the content of ultra-low doses of antibodies in biological fluids, organs and tissues, which makes it technically impossible to study the pharmacokinetics of the drug Ergoferon.

Ergoferon - indications for use

Ergoferon - instructions for use (tablets, solution), analogues, reviews, price of the drug. Can a child take Ergoferon, and at what age? Which is better: Ergoferon or Kagocel?

Release forms, varieties and composition

Currently, Ergoferon is available in two dosage forms:

  • Dissolving tablets for oral administration;
  • Oral solution.

Regarding the types of the drug, there is currently a widespread opinion at the household level that there are two types of Ergoferon - children's and adults. However, this is not true.

Both solution and Ergoferon tablets contain the same active substances:

  • Antibodies to interferon gamma, affinity purified – 0.12 g per 100 ml of solution or 0.006 g per tablet;
  • Antibodies to histamine, affinity purified – 0.12 g per 100 ml of solution or 0.006 g per tablet;
  • Affinity purified antibodies to CD4 - 0.12 g per 100 ml of solution or 0.006 g per tablet.

These active substances are antibodies obtained using biotechnological methods to substances (to histamine, to interferon gamma) and cells (to CD4), which support the inflammatory reaction in all organs and tissues of the human body. Once antibodies are obtained, impurities are removed from their bulk using biotechnological methods, resulting in them becoming affinity purified.

  • Microcrystalline cellulose;
  • Lactose monohydrate;
  • Magnesium stearate.

Ergoferon solution contains the following substances as auxiliary components:

  • Glycerol;
  • Anhydrous citric acid;
  • Maltitol;
  • Potassium sorbate;
  • Purified water (deionized and distilled).

Therapeutic effect

Ergoferon has antiviral, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antihistamine effects. The antiviral effect is to ensure effective elimination and suppression of the activity of viruses in the body, which leads to the cure of viral infections. The anti-inflammatory effect is to suppress inflammation in various organs and tissues, which ensures the cure of chronic low-grade inflammatory diseases. The antihistamine effect is to suppress the activity of histamine, which causes swelling, redness, dysfunction and pain in the inflamed area. Accordingly, suppression of histamine activity helps to reduce pain, swelling, redness and normalize the functioning of the inflamed organ or tissue. The immunomodulatory effect is to provide a more intense response of the immune system aimed at destroying pathogenic microbes that have entered the body.

  • Antibodies to interferon gamma cause an increase in the production of gamma, alpha and beta interferons, as well as interleukins 2, 4 and 10. In addition, antibodies improve the interaction of various cells with the produced interferon and normalize the ratio of cytokines (interleukins, interferons, etc.). Also, antibodies to gamma interferon increase the number of molecules of the major histocompatibility complex on the surface of immune cells, activate monocytes and natural killer cells (NK cells). All these effects activate natural antiviral immunity, due to which the immune system successfully destroys viruses. And due to the destruction of viruses, any viral infections are easier, recovery occurs faster, and the risk of complications is reduced.
  • Antibodies to the CD4 receptor increase its activity, which causes an increase in the functional activity of CD4 lymphocytes (lymphocytes belonging to the CD4 cluster), and also normalizes the ratio of various populations of immune system cells (such as CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD20). All these effects increase the efficiency of the immune system, due to which recovery from infectious diseases occurs faster, and the body’s overall resistance to various pathologies increases.
  • Antibodies to histamine reduce the activation of histamine receptors in various tissues and organs under the influence of histamine. As a result, the tone and tension of the smooth muscles of the bronchi decreases, and the permeability of capillaries decreases, due to which the duration and severity of rhinorrhea (snot), swelling of the nasal mucosa, coughing and sneezing is reduced. In addition, the severity of allergic reactions accompanying infectious diseases is reduced.

Due to its therapeutic effects, Ergoferon is effective in the treatment and prevention of a wide range of different viral infections (for example, influenza, parainfluenza, ARVI, adenovirus, coronavirus infections, intestinal infections, herpes infections, tick-borne encephalitis, etc.). In addition, Ergoferon increases the effectiveness of the treatment of bacterial infections if used in combination with antibiotics.

Indications for use

Ergoferon tablets and solution are indicated for use in the same following cases:

  • Prevention and treatment of influenza A and B;
  • Prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) caused by a variety of viruses, such as adenovirus, coronavirus, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus;
  • Prevention and treatment of infections caused by various types of herpes virus (labial and genital herpes, ophthalmic herpes, herpes zoster, chicken pox, infectious mononucleosis);
  • Prevention and treatment of acute intestinal infections caused by various viruses, such as calicivirus, adenovirus, coronavirus, rotavirus, enterovirus;
  • Prevention and treatment of meningitis caused by enteroviruses or meningococci;
  • Prevention and treatment of tick-borne encephalitis and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome;
  • As part of complex therapy for various bacterial infections, such as pseudotuberculosis, whooping cough, yersiniosis, pneumonia (including those caused by atypical pathogenic microbes Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella spp.);
  • Prevention of bacterial complications in various viral infections;
  • Prevention of superinfections (re-infection with an infection against the background of incomplete recovery from a previous infectious disease).

Instructions for use

Instructions for use of Ergoferon tablets

Tablets can be given to children from the age of six months.

Instructions for use of Ergoferon solution

The solution is intended for adults and children over three years of age.

How to take Ergoferon for prevention?

For the prevention of any diseases for which the use of Ergoferon is indicated, it is recommended to take the drug one tablet or one teaspoon (5 ml) of solution 1 - 2 times a day for 1 - 6 months, without breaks.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

The effect of Ergoferon solution and tablets on the course of pregnancy and the condition of the fetus has not been studied for obvious ethical reasons. Therefore, it is currently not known for sure whether the drug Ergoferon has a negative effect on the fetus and the course of pregnancy. However, theoretically, the drug should not adversely affect the fetus and the course of pregnancy. Considering this, the drug in any form (solution and tablets) is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so as not to encounter any (albeit very unlikely) negative consequences for the fetus.

special instructions

Ergoferon solution contains maltitol in the amount of 0.09 bread units (XE) per teaspoon (5 ml). And although the processing of maltitol in the amount of 0.09 XE requires a small amount of insulin (less than for the processing of 0.09 XE of sucrose), nevertheless, this circumstance should be known and taken into account by people suffering from diabetes when taking Ergoferon solution.

Impact on the ability to operate machinery

Ergoferon tablets and solution do not affect the ability to control mechanisms, since they do not have any effect on the central nervous system. Therefore, while using Ergoferon in one or another dosage form (tablets, solution), you can engage in any type of activity that requires a high speed of reactions and concentration.

Overdose

In case of an accidental overdose of Ergoferon tablets or solution, dyspepsia (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) may develop due to the excipients included in the drug. In case of overdose, symptomatic medications should be used to eliminate the manifestations of dyspepsia (for diarrhea - Loperamide, for nausea and vomiting - Cerucal).

Interaction with other drugs

Ergoferon tablets and solution do not significantly interact with other drugs. This means that both tablets and Ergoferon solution can be used in combination with any other drugs.

Ergoferon for children

General provisions

Ergoferon tablets in Russia are approved for use in children from the age of six months, and in Belarus - only from six years. Ergoferon solution is approved for use in Russia for children from the age of three years, and in Belarus - from the age of six years. More stringent restrictions on the use of the drug for children in the Republic of Belarus are due to the peculiarities of the legislation, which allows the use of any homeopathic medicines for children only from the age of six.

Instructions for use of Ergoferon for children

Children under three years of age should be given Ergoferon only in tablet form. From the age of three, Ergoferon can be given to children both in the form of tablets and as a solution.

Side effects

As side effects, both solution and Ergoferon tablets can only provoke allergic reactions or intolerance reactions to any component of the drug. If a person experiences an allergic reaction or any other manifestations of intolerance, they should immediately stop taking Ergoferon and consult a doctor.

Contraindications for use

Ergoferon tablets are contraindicated for use only in children under six months of age and if a person has individual hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any component.

  • Age under 3 years;
  • Individual hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any components of the drug;
  • Fructose intolerance.

In addition, both Ergoferon solution and tablets should be used with caution by people with diabetes, since both dosage forms contain small amounts of sugars.

Analogs

On the domestic pharmaceutical market, the drug Ergoferon has analogue drugs only in terms of therapeutic action, and has no analogues in terms of the active substance. That is, there are no drugs that contain the same active ingredients as Ergoferon on the pharmaceutical market of the countries of the former USSR. But there are analogues of Ergoferon for therapeutic action. This means that Ergoferon analogues are drugs that contain different active substances, but have similar therapeutic effects.

Reviews

Approximately 2/3 of the reviews about Ergoferon are positive, which is due to a noticeable effect in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections. Unfortunately, there are practically no reviews about the treatment of other viral diseases with Ergoferon, they are literally isolated, so it is not possible to obtain any objective picture in this case.

Ergoferon for children - reviews

Most of the reviews on the use of Ergoferon for children are positive (about 85%). It should be noted that all reviews of the use of Ergoferon relate to the treatment and prevention of various acute respiratory viral infections in children. There are no reviews on the use of the drug for children for other indications.

Ergoferon - reviews from doctors

Reviews from doctors about Ergoferon are in almost all cases positive, which is due to a number of reasons. Firstly, the drug speeds up recovery and alleviates the course of ARVI in many sick children and adults, that is, it turns out to be effective and suitable for a wide range of patients. Secondly, Ergoferon practically does not cause side effects, which is also a significant advantage of the drug in the eyes of doctors. Thirdly, Ergoferon is a homeopathic and, therefore, a safe drug that is suitable for both adults and children. And even if the medicine turns out to be ineffective in a particular case, it will not cause harm, which is very important in the case of treating young children.

What is better than Ergoferon?

In medical practice, there is no clear answer to the question “What is better than Ergoferon?”, since it is impossible to find a remedy that in different situations and in different people would be better in all respects than another, similar, comparable in quality and range of therapeutic effect. Therefore, the doctor, instead of determining “what is better?” use the term “what is optimal?”

Ergoferon or Kagocel?

Both drugs have immunomodulatory and antiviral effects, and also promote the production of interferon. However, Ergoferon is a homeopathic drug, while Kagocel is not. Therefore, Ergoferon is effective only when used in the initial stages of the disease, and if you start taking it on the 2nd - 4th day of ARVI, it will be useless. Kagocel, unlike Ergoferon, is effective at any stage of the disease.

Currently, the cost of a package of 20 tablets of Ergoferon in pharmacies in Russian cities is 265 – 353 rubles.
