Use for the treatment of cough, hoarseness, sore throat and other infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Erespal - the anti-inflammatory and antibronchoconstrictor activity of the drug Erespal is due to the fact that fenspiride reduces the production of a number of biologically active substances (cytokines, especially tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), arachidonic acid derivatives, free radicals), which play an important role in the development of inflammation and bronchospasm.

Inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism by fenspiride is potentiated by blockade of histamine H1 receptors, because histamine stimulates the formation of its products (prostaglandins and leukotrienes). Fenspiride blocks alpha-adrenergic receptors, the stimulation of which is accompanied by an increase in the secretion of the bronchial glands. Thus, fenspiride reduces the effect of a number of factors that contribute to the hypersecretion of proinflammatory factors, the development of inflammation and bronchial obstruction.

Fenspiride also has an antispasmodic effect.

1 film-coated tablet contains fenspiride hydrochloride 80 mg. Excipients: disubstituted calcium phosphate, hypromellose, povidone, colloidal anhydrous silicon, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, glycerol, macrogol 6000; 15 pcs in a blister, 2 blisters in a box.

1 ml of syrup - 2 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride. Excipients: honey aroma (honey, rum, alcoholates and alcohol extracts of honey, rose and orange flowers), licorice root extract (concentrated tincture of licorice root, glucose syrup, anise oil) and vanillin extract (aqueous-alcoholic decoction of vanilla pods, glycerin, sunset yellow S dye, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, saccharin, sucrose, potassium sorbate, distilled water); in a bottle 150 ml, in a box 1 bottle.

Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is excreted mainly in the urine (90%), 10% through the intestines.

Diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract:

  • rhinopharyngitis and laryngitis;
  • tracheobronchitis;
  • bronchitis (with or without chronic respiratory failure);
  • bronchial asthma (as part of complex therapy);
  • respiratory phenomena (cough, hoarseness, sore throat) with measles, whooping cough, influenza;
  • infectious diseases of the respiratory tract accompanied by cough, when standard antibiotic therapy is indicated;
  • otitis and sinusitis of various etiologies.

Film-coated tablets 80 mg.

Syrup 2 mg/ml (children's form of the drug).

Instructions for use and dosage

For adults, the drug is prescribed 80 mg (1 tablet) 2-3 times a day or 3-6 tablespoons (45-90 ml) of syrup per day. 1 tablespoon contains 30 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride and 9 g of sucrose.

The maximum daily dose is 240 mg. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Erespal in tablet form is not intended for the treatment of children and adolescents under 18 years of age. For use of the drug in this category of patients, Erespal in the form of syrup is recommended.

For children and adolescents, the drug is prescribed at the rate of 4 mg/kg body weight per day. Children aged 0 to 2 years (body weight up to 10 kg) teaspoons of syrup (10-20 ml) per day, can be added to a bottle with food (1 teaspoon spoon contains 10 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride and 3 gsucrose). Children aged 2 to 16 years (body weight more than 10 kg) tablespoons of syrup (30-60 ml) per day.

The drug should be taken before meals. The syrup should be shaken before use.

  • moderate tachycardia, the severity of which decreases with decreasing dose of the drug
  • gastrointestinal disorders
  • nausea
  • epigastric pain
  • drowsiness
  • erythema, rash, urticaria, angioedema.
  • children under 18 years of age (for tablets);
  • hypersensitivity to the active substance and/or any of the components of the drug.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Taking the drug during pregnancy is not recommended.

Fenspiride therapy is not a reason to terminate an ongoing pregnancy.

Erespal should not be used during breastfeeding due to the lack of data on the penetration of fenspiride into breast milk.

Erespal syrup should be used to treat children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

The drug contains Sunset Yellow S dye, as a result of which taking Erespal can provoke the development of allergic reactions, including asthmatic attacks, especially in people with hypersensitivity to aspirin.

Due to the possible sedative effect when taking histamine H1 receptor blockers, the use of Erespal in combination with drugs that have a sedative effect or with alcohol is not recommended.

The bronchodilating effect of fenspiride blocks H1 receptors of the bronchi, reducing the release of bradykinin, serotonin, histamine (biologically active mediators of inflammation). By blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors, fenspiride reduces sputum production. Erespal relieves dry cough by changing the rheological properties of bronchial secretions.

Pharmacokinetics

Erespal reaches the site of inflammation after absorption in the stomach. The effect of Erespal occurs 6 hours after taking the tablets. Erespal syrup acts much faster, the peak of action is observed within 2.5-3 hours after administration. The drug is excreted from the body by the kidneys, along with urine (90%), the remaining 10% is removed through the intestines.

Indications for use of Erespal

Diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract:

How to take Erespal for adults

Erespal is a well-known medicine for the treatment of diseases of the ENT organs. Erespal for adults is prescribed exclusively in tablet form; for children, the drug is usually prescribed in syrup.

Composition and medicinal properties

Cough, as a sign of infectious diseases, indicates the development of inflammatory phenomena in the lower parts of the respiratory system. Accumulation and stagnation of phlegm lead to a feeling of heaviness in the chest, pain, and severe sore throat.

To reduce coughing attacks and remove mucus, specialists prescribe various antitussive and expectorant agents. Erespal, unlike other medications, acts purposefully, eliminating the cause of cough - the inflammatory process.

The product is produced in the form of 80 mg tablets, as well as in the form of 150 ml syrup. In childhood, a liquid form is used, which additionally contains flavoring additives, licorice, sucrose, and is easily absorbed by the child’s body.

In addition to anti-inflammatory properties, the product has the following abilities:

  • relieves swelling of mucous surfaces;
  • prevents narrowing of the bronchial lumen;
  • thins sticky mucus.

The active component of the drug, fenspiride, has a bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory effect. In addition to the main ingredient, the tablets also include:

  • calcium hydrogen phosphate;
  • hypromellose;
  • stiaric acid;
  • silicon dioxide

Thanks to its complex effect on the organs of the respiratory system, the drug not only effectively relieves spasms of smooth muscles, relaxing and dilating the bronchi, but also exhibits antitussive properties. It is these properties that make it possible to use it in the treatment of non-productive cough.

How it works

Erespal is a unique medicine that prevents the spread of the inflammatory process in a short period of time and has bronchodilator properties.

The drug blocks mediators of the inflammatory process, relieving not only the symptoms of the disease, but also its root cause, acting directly at the source of inflammation.

The medicine affects the activation of the ciliated epithelium, normalizes gas exchange in the lung tissues, stimulating the liquefaction of mucus.

Fenspiride blocks histamine receptors, inhibits the production of arachidonic acid, which plays an important role in the appearance of edema, bronchospasms and hyperproduction of sputum.

Thus, the remedy acts in several directions:

  • helps reduce the clinical manifestations of infectious diseases - relieves swelling of the mucous membranes, relieves pain in the throat, cough and runny nose;
  • affects the focus of the inflammatory process;
  • restores nasal breathing;
  • does not require intensive concomitant treatment;
  • practically does not provoke allergic reactions;
  • can be combined with other drugs without reducing their therapeutic effectiveness;
  • shortens the period of illness, accelerating healing;
  • can be prescribed to young children from 2 years of age.

When taken orally, the drug in tablets reaches its highest concentration after 6 hours, in syrup - after 3 hours. 12 hours after consumption, the substance is removed by the kidneys.

Indications for use

The medicine is recommended for coughs of various etiologies - viral, allergic or bacterial.

According to the instructions for use, Erespal is prescribed for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory organs. The main indications are:

  • ARVI, flu, colds;
  • inflammation in the pharynx;
  • bronchitis;
  • rhinitis;
  • inflammation of the larynx;
  • tracheobronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • sinusitis and its varieties;
  • otitis and other diseases accompanied by cough.

In addition, Erespal can be used after surgical interventions on the ENT organs: it significantly reduces tissue swelling, normalizes breathing through the nose, and restores the sense of smell.

The use of the drug for serious pathologies of the respiratory system - pneumonia, pleurisy and other diseases - can ease their course and improve the general condition of the patient.

The drug is considered universal: it is used both to soften a dry cough and for a wet cough with difficult to separate sputum. However, treatment with Erespal cannot replace taking antibiotics.

How to take for adults

The medication is prescribed before or after meals in doses depending on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient.

For adults, the medicine is prescribed one tablet two to three times a day.

Chronic inflammatory pathologies require the use of two tablets per day in the morning and evening. When inflammation worsens, it is recommended to take three pills per day. In addition, the specialist can prescribe an individual treatment regimen for a specific patient.

Erespal can also be taken in syrup for adults. The optimal dosage is 3-6 tablespoons per day.

The highest dosage in 24 hours should not exceed 240 mg. The duration of the course is determined by the attending physician. Most often, it is recommended for adults to take Erespal for 7 days.

Clinical trials have established that the positive effect of the drug appears after a week of continuous therapy. For chronic pathologies and pulmonary obstruction, treatment can be extended to several weeks. Thus, an adult can drink Erespal for up to 30 days.

Erespal: compatibility

One of the advantages of the medication is its good compatibility with other medications - expectorants and antibiotics, so it can be used as part of a combination treatment.

Erespal and alcohol are incompatible: the medicine can enhance the sedative effect of ethyl alcohol. For the same reason, the drug is not recommended to be taken together with sedatives: it can lead to increased drowsiness and decreased performance.

Contraindications and side effects

Fenspiride is a fairly safe substance that allows the use of medications based on it in pediatric practice. Despite this, the product has some restrictions on its use:

  • hypersensitivity to the active substance;
  • children's age less than 2 years.

Caution when using the medicine must be observed in adult patients with fructose and sucrose intolerance, as well as those suffering from diabetes.

In the form of tablets, the product is recommended for children over 14 years old, in syrup - over 2 years old.

You should not treat a child with a tablet, dividing it into parts: in childhood, only the mixture is used. However, in some situations, syrup is prescribed to adult patients.

You should refrain from using Erespal during pregnancy and breastfeeding: there is currently no data on the effect of the medication on women and children.

Usually the medicine is easily tolerated and does not cause side effects. However, in case of individual intolerance, the drug can provoke:

  • abdominal pain;
  • diarrhea;
  • nausea;
  • loss of strength, increased fatigue;
  • dizziness;
  • heart rhythm disturbance;
  • skin rash.

When using the drug in an increased dose, symptoms of overdose may occur - increased heart rate, gag reflexes, overexcitation or, conversely, weakness. In this case, symptomatic treatment is necessary.

Erespal is a truly effective drug with a complex effect. In addition to its direct purpose - eliminating cough, the medicine has an anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, antispasmodic effect, which allows it to be used in the treatment of diseases of various parts of the ENT organs.

pharmachologic effect

According to Wikipedia, the drug has antispasmodic, antihistamine, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Erespal (Eurespal) prevents bronchoconstriction and slows down exudation. The anti-inflammatory effect that fenspiride has is due to inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism. Antibronchoconstrictor effects are produced due to inhibition of the process of secretion of biologically active substances: histamine, serotonin, bradykinin. In addition, the drug blocks α-adrenergic receptors, upon stimulation of which there is an increase in the production of bronchial secretions.

Prevents bronchospasm. If the drug is prescribed in large doses, it reduces the production of various inflammatory factors.

The medicine is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The highest concentration of the active substance in the blood plasma is observed approximately 2.5 hours after oral administration. The half-life is 12 hours.

Approximately 90% of the drug is excreted through the kidneys, the remaining 10% is excreted through the intestines.

Indications for use of Erespal

Indications for the use of the drug are diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract of humans:

Thus, the indications for the use of Erespal are diseases accompanied by cough and other symptoms of respiratory tract diseases. Indications for the use of syrup are the same as for the use of the drug in tablets. When prescribing a treatment complex, the doctor determines which form of the drug is preferable. The syrup is used with caution to treat people who have fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, diabetes mellitus, sucrase or isomaltase deficiency, since the syrup contains sucrose.

Instructions for use of Erespal (Method and dosage)

The drug in tablets is used only for the treatment of adult patients. During treatment, the instructions for use of tablets and syrup must be strictly followed.

The instructions for Erespal tablets are as follows.

The medicine should be taken before meals. For chronic inflammatory diseases, it is recommended to take two 80 mg tablets per day - morning and evening. In the acute course of the disease, the doctor may prescribe a course of treatment that involves taking three tablets - morning, afternoon and evening. The doctor can prescribe an individual plan for how to take the pills. The duration of therapy is also determined individually.

The instructions for Erespal cough syrup are as follows. The syrup can be taken by adults; it is also prescribed for children after the age of twelve. You can take from 3 to 6 tablespoons of the product (45–90 ml) per day. The course of treatment for children and adults lasts as many days as prescribed by the attending physician.

The medicine in syrup form is not prescribed to children under 2 years of age.

Erespal for children is prescribed taking into account how old the child is and how much he weighs. In this case, the dosage of the syrup is carried out so that the daily dose of cough suppressant is not exceeded. The instructions for syrup for children stipulate that the daily dose is divided into 2 or 3 doses. The syrup should be drunk before meals.

The drug is not prescribed for children under 2 years of age. If treatment of respiratory diseases is required for children under one year of age, the doctor prescribes safe analogues for children of this age.

It is recommended to consume 4 mg of the drug per 1 kg of child’s body weight per day.

Children weighing less than 10 kg are prescribed 2-4 teaspoons of the product per day (10–20 ml). Children weighing more than 10 kg are prescribed 2-4 tablespoons of the product per day (20–60 ml).

How many days a child takes this remedy depends on the disease and the doctor’s recommendations. Reviews of the syrup indicate that an improvement in the condition is noted after 2-3 days of such treatment.

Overdose

If an overdose occurs, you should immediately seek medical help. After an overdose, drowsiness or agitation, sinus tachycardia, nausea and vomiting may occur.

In this condition, the patient undergoes gastric lavage and an ECG is constantly monitored. If necessary, vital body functions are supported.

Interaction

The abstract indicates that a special study of the interaction of fenspiride with other drugs has not been carried out. Due to the likelihood of increased sedative effects when taking histamine H1 receptor blockers, Erespal is not recommended to be taken together with sedatives.

Terms of sale

The sale of medicine is carried out according to a doctor's prescription.

Storage conditions

There is no need to observe special conditions when storing the product. Erespal must be stored at room temperature and kept away from children.

Best before date

The syrup can be stored for 3 years, tablets - 2 years.

special instructions

Often patients have a question about whether Erespal is an antibiotic or not. In fact, treatment with Erespal cannot replace antibiotic therapy. Therefore, if necessary, an additional antibiotic is prescribed.

People with diabetes are prescribed the drug in tablets, since the syrup contains sucrose.

Due to the presence of sunset yellow in syrup, people with intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid, as well as other NSAIDs, may develop bronchospasm.

No studies have been conducted that would allow conclusions to be drawn about the effect of Erespal on the ability to drive vehicles and work with precision mechanisms. However, drowsiness may occur when using it, especially if the drug is combined with sedatives or alcohol. It should be noted that such a combination may lead to a reaction disorder.

Erespal's analogs

In pharmacy chains you can find similar drugs that have the same properties. Analogues of Erespal syrup and tablets in terms of effects on the human body are Stoptussin, Fenspiride, Ascoril, Fluditek, Lazolvan, Ambrobene. The price of analogues can be either higher or lower. But, despite the desire to find cheaper analogues, you should ask your doctor about what you can replace 80 mg tablets or Erespal syrup with. In some cases, Erespal can be replaced with Bronchicum. It is used for bronchitis, both dry and wet cough.

Which is better: Erespal or Sinekod?

Sinekod is a drug that is a direct-acting antitussive drug. Its active ingredient is butamirate. This remedy is used primarily for non-productive coughs. It is not recommended to take Erespal and Sinekod at the same time. In this case, you should definitely consult a doctor.

Which is better: Erespal or Lazolvan?

Only a doctor should prescribe a drug for the treatment of an adult or child. Erespal more effectively reduces inflammatory processes, and Lazolvan promotes the liquefaction and removal of sputum. That is, Lazolvan is used for wet coughs. Often patients are also interested in whether it is possible to take Erespal and Lazolvan at the same time. The compatibility of these drugs is acceptable. However, only a doctor can prescribe Lazolvan and Erespal together, since compliance with a special regimen for taking these drugs is required.

Which is better: Erespal or Ambrobene?

Patients also wonder whether Erespal and Ambrobene can be used together during treatment. The active ingredient of the drug Ambrobene, like Lazolvan, is Ambroxol hydrochloride. Therefore, the answer to the question of what to prefer, Erespal or Ambrobene, is similar.

Which is better: Prospan or Erespal?

Prospan is a drug with a mucolytic effect, the basis of which is a dry extract of ivy leaves. However, only a doctor can determine which drug should be used for a cough, runny nose, etc.

Which is better: Erespal or Askoril?

The drug Ascoril contains three active substances - salbutamol, bromhexine, guaifenesin. It acts on the body as a bronchodilator and mucolytic. Erespal and Ascoril are prescribed at the same time, only by a doctor according to indications. The patient also cannot independently answer which is better - Erespal or Ascolril, since the diagnosis and individual characteristics of the patient must be taken into account.

People very often have questions about combining Erespal with other cough medicines. For example, can Erespal and Fluditec be taken together? Is cough treatment carried out in such a way that Erespal and ACC can be used together in one treatment regimen? Despite the fact that there are no strict instructions on the incompatibility of these drugs, you cannot combine any cough suppressants on your own, without consulting a doctor.

Thus, before answering which cough to take this or that drug, you need to carefully study the instructions and consult with your doctor. For which cough a particular syrup or tablet is prescribed and drunk depends on its active substance and effect on the body.

For children

Erespal in the form of syrup is prescribed only to children who are already two years old. The medicine is not used for infants. A baby who has developed respiratory tract infections is prescribed other medications.

With alcohol

It is not recommended to combine alcohol and Erespal, as alcoholic beverages enhance the sedative effect of the drug. A person who combines Erespal and alcohol will feel severe weakness and drowsiness.

During pregnancy and lactation

There are no or limited data on the use of fenspiride hydrochloride during pregnancy. But if pregnancy is detected during treatment with Erespal, there is no need to terminate it.

There is no data regarding whether fenspiride passes into breast milk. Therefore, it is recommended not to take this remedy while breastfeeding. Infectious diseases of the respiratory tract should be treated with other means, for which the woman needs to see a doctor.

Reviews about Erespal

Reviews of Erespal tablets and syrup are both positive and negative. Positive reviews are mainly left by those who took the product or gave it to children after a doctor’s prescription. In particular, the rapid action of the drug, a decrease in the manifestations of the disease - cough, shortness of breath, and an improvement in the general well-being of the patient are noted. Reviews from doctors about Erespal syrup are also mostly positive.

However, there are also negative opinions about the drug on various resources. Patients note the manifestation of some side effects - weakness, insomnia, tachycardia, nausea, etc. Often negative opinions are left by those who started treatment with the drug on their own, without determining what kind of cough this medicine is used for, whether it can be taken for a dry cough, how to take it - before or after eating. It should be borne in mind that Erespal is a potent medicine, so it should not be used based only on the statement of forum members that the drug was recommended by Dr. Komarovsky or another expert.

A normal working drug if taken according to the regimen and indications. Anyone who complains about palpitations is apparently not familiar with bronchospasm. Other drugs like ascoril and theophylline make your heart jump out of your skin. However, bronchial obstruction is no big deal; you want to breathe, or you can endure it.

After taking Erespal, I thought my heart would just jump out of my chest, a terrible tachycardia that just threw me up in bed, sleep was out of the question ((((

The doctor prescribed Erespal, on the third day of treatment the heart began to “jump out” at 120 beats per minute, weakness, but the blood pressure did not decrease, so she stopped taking it. Heart beats improved.

I don’t recommend taking it, it affects the cardiovascular system, although I haven’t had any problems with it before. The doctor prescribed the drug and I took it for 5 days. I thought I was weak after ARVI, but I’ve never had such weakness in my life, I walk around like I’m drunk - dizziness, poor coordination, insomnia, blood pressure dropped to 104/67, pulse 70, I almost fainted several times today .

CANNOT BE ACCEPTED. DANGEROUS! WILL END SOON! I LEFT HIM FOR DAY 2! AND MADE A SCANDAL FOR THE DOCTOR.

Stupid doctors generally understand little about physics and chemistry. This is their problem. The drug was studied on rats, horses, and volunteers from Great Britain, France, and Italy. The effect of it, like a drug, is stupidly relaxing with depression of the central nervous system, which leads to relaxation of the muscles and blood vessels of the bronchi. That's all. That's the whole stupid therapeutic effect. Learn chemistry and physics. Check medications on the Internet. It is necessary to relieve pressure and cardiac arrhythmia immediately
