I always have a star in my first aid kit. Yes, I use it during colds. At the same time, I apply it pointwise not only to the wings of the nose, but also to the wrists and heels. This remedy also helps with bruises. If you lubricate the bruise, the bruise will go away faster.

Tatyana, you are a thrifty person. There is almost nothing in my first aid kit. But the star is not suitable for my sensitive skin. It helps very well, but the skin becomes red and then peels a lot.

I, too, always have a round little star; since childhood, my mother taught me to smear the outside of my nose near the wings, but I even smear it on the inside and it doesn’t sting. I wonder if this can be done at all? I want to buy another pencil to take with me.

I remember the star from childhood. It doesn't smell very good, of course, but it's effective. It saved me from headaches and a runny nose. It’s a pity that my son can’t be smeared yet.

I also use it when necessary. At night, when I have a runny nose, I use it on myself or my loved ones on the wings of the nose, on the wrist, and on the heels.

"Asterisk": use and contraindications

Every resident of the former USSR over the age of 30 probably knows what the “Golden Star” or “Star” balm is (as fans of this wonderful product affectionately call it). Small, red boxes with a gold star in the middle appeared on pharmacy counters in 1982. And since then, the miracle balm from distant Vietnam has settled in almost every home.

At first, there were real legends about the new medicine. In conditions of total shortage, the appearance of cheap, accessible, and most importantly, imported medicine was perceived as a real miracle. “Zvezdochka” was used to treat a runny nose and radiculitis, and in general, they treated everything!

However, the excitement around “Zvezdochka” soon died down. It turned out that you can’t cure radiculitis or even a cold with it. So is “Star” completely useless? Not at all. It just needs to be used correctly.

In Vietnam, where “Zvezdochka” comes from, this remedy is considered quite effective and is used for many diseases. But Vietnamese doctors use it taking into account acupuncture points - active points on the human body, into which a small amount of balm is rubbed. Moreover, for each disease different combinations of points are used.

Without going into the intricacies of oriental medicine, “Asterisk” can be successfully used for the symptomatic treatment of certain ailments. This is a completely natural product that contains: clove oil, menthol, camphor, eucalyptus and peppermint oils.

Application of balm “Star”

“Star” helps a lot with a runny nose. Its strong and fresh aroma facilitates nasal breathing and relieves nasal congestion. To treat a runny nose, a small amount of balm is applied to the wings of the nose and just above the upper lip. In this case, you need to ensure that the ointment does not get on the mucous membrane of the nasal passages or mouth. In addition, the balm is used for inhalation. Inhalations are done either using a special inhaler, or simply throwing a little ointment into boiling water and inhaling the aromatic steam.

When bitten by insects, the balm is applied directly to the bite site. The sore spot cools down, and the pain and itching subside for a while. It should be remembered that the balm should absolutely not be used for various skin diseases, or applied to open wounds.

If you have a headache, then rub the “Star” on your temples and the skin above your eyebrows. But you need to be careful and make sure that the balm does not get into your eyes. In order for this not to happen, it is best to wash your hands thoroughly after using the balm.

For bruises, sprains or muscle pain, rub a thin layer of ointment into the sore spot. If you get motion sickness, rubbing the ointment into your temples and the back of your head will ease the condition. The same should be done for insomnia or prolonged depression.

It is good to use “Zvezdochka” for aromatherapy sessions. To do this, place a drop of balm in the aroma lamp, fill it with water and light the candle.

"Asterisk": contraindications

  • It must be remembered that the Golden Star balm can cause an allergic reaction, because all its components are strong allergens. In order to prevent possible troubles, do a sensitivity test before using the balm. To do this, apply a small amount of balm to the skin of the wrist from the inside. If after a while you feel a burning sensation and itching, and the skin at the site of application of the ointment turns red, then immediately wash everything off and do not use this drug anymore. Most likely it is not suitable for you.
  • Children and adolescents should also use the balm with caution. Moreover, it is completely prohibited for children under two years of age. And older children can only use the balm under adult supervision. The child may well want to taste the ointment, or accidentally rub it into his eyes.
  • Pregnant women also often use “Zvezdochka”, considering it absolutely safe for the unborn child. Of course, the balm cannot cause as much harm as synthetic drugs. There are no chemicals in the balm that are harmful to the baby. But it is still better to be careful.

The fact is that the main contraindication to the drug is excessive sensitivity to the components of which it consists. As for a pregnant woman, it is sometimes impossible to predict the reaction of her body. So if you are in a position, then before using “Star”, just smell it, and if the smell seems sharply unpleasant to you, then it is better not to use it at all. Most likely, at the moment, this remedy is not suitable for you.

Balm Zvezdochka has a right to exist. This remedy, proven over decades, may not be a panacea, but it performs its functions adequately, and also does not empty your wallet, like most modern remedies.

Balm “Star”: composition, properties and rules of use

Balm “Golden Star”, or simply “Star”, is well known to users in the territory of the former Soviet Union. This remedy was very widespread and is still actively used today. In the wake of increased interest in natural and folk remedies, this balm is still at the top due to its effectiveness and ease of use.

This remedy can be used by all members of the family, except the smallest, has a wide range of uses and, with proper treatment, cannot cause harm to health. Many people like its specific bitter smell; it seems that just inhaling it can “open” the nose. This property of the drug is the basis for its use as an inhalation component in the treatment of colds and various types of runny nose.

Composition and properties of balm “Zvezdochka”

Balm “Zvezdochka” is a herbal remedy that has a wide spectrum of action.

The famous Vietnamese balm “Star”, the composition of which includes effective oils of natural origin, has an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effect. It is caused by local irritation of sensitive nerve endings, which is caused by the composition of the product. A kind of distracting effect is obtained, and pain, discomfort and itching (in the presence of insect bites) gradually disappear.

The antiseptic properties of the oils in the balm work great as inhalations. Volatile substances enter the area of inflammation and quickly eliminate it, soften the mucous membranes and reduce their swelling.

The basic composition of all products from the “Golden Star” series contains the following components:

This is the basic composition; the ointment additionally includes the following components:

These auxiliary, additional substances serve to increase the plasticity and thickness of the product and to ensure that it remains on the surface of the skin longer.

We can assume that the composition of the product is completely natural, so it can cause allergic reactions, which requires a preliminary test when using the drug for the first time.

Release form, shelf life and storage

The drug has different release forms

Balm “Golden Star” is not only the usual ointment in a small red “puck” with a characteristic pungent aroma. In the homeland of the product, in Vietnam, several different types of products are produced under this name: the ointment itself, a liquid balm, a special pencil intended for inhalation, a patch with a cooling effect, syrup, nasal drops, a patch, a nasal spray.

Three varieties of such balms have been officially registered in the Russian Federation - liquid, in the form of a classic ointment in a tin jar, and an inhalation pencil.

“Zvezdochka” balm, the composition of which is composed mainly of natural ingredients, requires storage in dry places protected from bright light and excessive heat.

The ointment is packaged in small tin boxes, which easily heat up in the sun, and the composition of the drug melts and can “leak”. You should also try to keep it away from children's eyes, because they perceive the small colorful packaging as a toy and can accidentally get the ointment into their eyes or mucous membranes, causing an allergic reaction and simply unpleasant sensations. In a child under 2 years of age, inhalation of intense vapors of the substance can cause spasm of the respiratory tract and even respiratory arrest.

More information about the “Star” balm can be found in the video:

If the product gets into the eyes, it has a strong irritant effect, after which the baby’s tears literally roll down and he will scream and cry in pain. In some cases, it is necessary to seek medical help.

The inhalation pencil is valid for 60 months from the date of production, and liquid balms and ointments are valid for 48 months (subject to proper storage). If the product has changed color, texture or usual smell, it should not be used.

Indications for use

Balm “Zvezdochka” - prevention and treatment of flu and colds

The “Star” balm is used, the composition of which has distracting properties, for the following diseases and conditions:

  1. Headache, dizziness. A small amount of balm is applied to the temples with soft massaging movements; you can additionally do a light massage of the scalp - this will increase blood circulation and reduce headaches, and reduce vascular spasms.
  2. Colds. The balm can be used for application to active points, for which a small amount of the product is delicately rubbed in a circular motion into the skin at the exit points of such biologically active points. The balm can also be used as a skin rub for bronchitis (on the chest and back, legs). To enhance the warming effect, the patient is wrapped up and well covered in bed, given plenty of fluids, preferably linden decoction, tea with honey and lemon, raspberries. These remedies will increase sweating, the high temperature will subside and the patient will quickly feel better, but immediately after sweating he needs to be changed into dry clothes, otherwise he will get even more sick.
  3. Runny nose. Typically, “Golden Star” is used as an additional remedy as part of complex therapy for runny noses. Most often, steam baths or inhalations are made with the balm. For inhalations, you can use a special pencil from this series, and steam baths can be done with both liquid balm and ointment. Typically, boiling water with the addition of sea salt is used as a base, but you can also use simple kitchen rock salt. A few drops of liquid balm are dripped from the prepared solution or a very small, pea-sized amount of ointment is placed. Cover the patient with a large towel, leave to breathe, then dry thoroughly, if necessary, change into dry underwear (the patient may sweat a lot), and put to bed.
  4. Insect bites. The balm usually works well for severe itching or pain, but you need to remember that the presence of open wounds precludes applying ointment to them - you can only apply it around the sore spot.

Rules for using the balm

The use of “Zvezdochka” balm, which consists of locally irritating substances, must be used according to the following rules:

  • Do not apply the balm to mucous membranes - it can cause severe irritation, swelling and pain.
  • When using, avoid contact with eyes.
  • After use, wash your hands thoroughly with a brush, removing the ointment from under your nails.

When using for the first time, be sure to do a test on the crook of your arm. You need to apply a small amount of the drug to thin skin. If this results in irritation, redness, swelling or other signs of an allergy, this product should not be used in any form for such a person.

To relieve the manifestations of an allergic reaction, wash the area where the product is applied with soap and take an antihistamine.

Do not apply the product to open wounds, irritated or inflamed skin.

Be careful with the medicine, and it will only have a positive effect. As for the “Star” balm, in its case, more does not mean better - you need to use very small portions of the drug.

Contraindications and analogues

Despite its natural composition, the balm has contraindications

"Golden Star" has the following list of contraindications:

  • Individual sensitivity to the drug as a whole or to its components.
  • Children's age up to 36 months.
  • Bronchial asthma, bronchospasm.
  • Whooping cough.
  • Skin diseases.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding (not an absolute contraindication, but requires consultation with a doctor).

The most common adverse reaction when using products from this popular series is an allergic reaction similar to urticaria. Most often it is accompanied by local swelling, redness, severe itching and rashes. In case of such manifestations, the site of application of the ointment is washed and an antiallergic drug is taken.

To replace the balm if it is unavailable, you can use other products with a similar effect. It should be noted that the similarity lies precisely in the action, but not in the composition of the drugs:

  • Eagle balm helps with colds and insect bites.
  • Severe itching, irritation, and inflammation can be treated with Iricar.
  • Menovazin is indicated for rubbing against neuralgia, arthralgia and dermatoses.

Balm “Golden Star” is a proven, high-quality product with a low cost, which is worthy of being in every family’s medicine cabinet.

I use “Zvezdochka” for rubbing, and sometimes I can do inhalation when my nose is stuffy - I breathe over a container of hot water, into which I add a balm, just a little bit, about the size of a match head.

Star balm is a very good remedy for many diseases, but it does not need to be rubbed, but applied to certain active points. Instructions and a diagram of where and for what diseases to apply Asterisk may be supplied with this product. I tested the effectiveness of this treatment on myself and am pleased with the result.

I keep this balm on hand all the time, because you never know, but I really don’t use it for a child, I still think this is an unnecessary measure and who knows, maybe it will smear it into the eyes with a pen and, as noted in the article, the consequences may not be very good.

Zvezdochka balm is always in my arsenal of remedies for fighting colds; it relieves pain and warms up well. I apply it to the bridge of the nose, temples, wings of the nose, and also use it for inhalation.

    Acupuncture with star balm

    Star balm, although in our minds is associated with a relic of Soviet times, comes from the East. But it was there that such a treatment method as acupuncture gained popularity. During this acupressure of biologically active points located throughout the body, a variety of essential oils, ointments, and emulsions containing plant extracts were traditionally used. Over time, star balm took pride of place among the products for oriental acupuncture.

    Acupuncture without the participation of a professional, at home - nothing more than massage, rubbing problem points. When you have a headache, a small amount of star balm can be rubbed into your temples; when you have a runny nose, you can apply it to the wings of your nose. To rub, apply a very small amount of balm to the skin and rub it vigorously until completely absorbed. Contact of the balm with the eyes and mucous membranes of the skin should be carefully avoided.

    In the hands of a professional, the effect of the star balm will be more effective, since not only the use of a combination of individual ingredients is important, but also the application technology, pressing on special points. The master applies the star balm to the skin and, without noticeable tension, massages the area of the body until it turns slightly pink. A massage will at least relieve pain and improve your well-being. As a maximum, the individual ingredients of the balm, the properties of which were described above, will come into effect. In cases of severe advanced diseases, such massage should not be used as the only and exclusive method of treatment, but only as an auxiliary one.

    Acupressure is performed with one finger. The master is aware of the location of the points responsible for individual organs. So, many of them are located on the feet, but not only. Light pressure is applied to the biologically active point with a slightly bent finger, and the pressure gradually increases until it becomes slightly painful. The point is massaged with small amplitude oscillatory-rotational movements without moving the finger across the skin. Star balm can be rubbed in both initially (from the beginning of the procedure) and applied subsequently and even at the end of the massage session (the biologically active point that was rubbed is lubricated with a small amount of the drug, which will result in a more pronounced effect).

    Contraindications to the use of star balm

    All components of the star balm have a pronounced and active effect. These are substances that irritate receptors, some of them are also allergens. Therefore, individual intolerance to the drug can often develop. If you once notice excessive redness and burning, nausea, dizziness, similar unpleasant reactions and worsening symptoms of the underlying disease, stop using the balm in the future.

    In light of this information, star balm is not recommended for allergy sufferers. Their body is more likely to succumb to the irritating effects of essential oils or camphor.

    Star balm should be used with caution in children and pregnant women. It is better to treat children under 5 years of age with any other means. As for older babies and expectant mothers, it is better to consult with your doctor about the advisability of using the star, and if there is the slightest abnormal reaction of the body, refuse the balm.

    For allergy sufferers, pregnant women, and children, it is wise to test for susceptibility to asterisk balm. To do this, apply and rub a small amount of the drug onto the chest or leg, or best of all, onto the back of the arm. If the next day no red spots appear at the site of rubbing, then you can safely begin treatment.

    There are no other contraindications to the use of asterisk balm, but it is even better to avoid it if there are pustular skin diseases or open lesions (wounds, scratches). Despite the fact that asterisk is an antiseptic and its individual components promote tissue regeneration, the drug nevertheless has an irritating effect on receptors, which can aggravate painful symptoms.

    Under no circumstances should the balm be applied to the eyes or other mucous membranes of your body!

    Some forms of the balm can be used for inhalation, but you should not lubricate the mucous membranes with it and, in particular, apply it to intimate areas of the body. If you have a runny nose, lubricate the star only on the outer part of the nose, wings of the nose, nostrils, but do not apply the star inside, on the mucous membranes.

    It is strictly forbidden to take star balm internally, either pure or diluted.

    When using asterisk balm, as in using any other pharmacological and folk remedies, it is important to observe reasonableness and moderation. Regular and frequent/constant use of medication are somewhat different things. Choose the first one.

    Balm Star. Instructions for use

    Balm “Star”

    Balm “Star” (“Golden Star”, “Vietnamese Star”) has been known to everyone since childhood. In Soviet times, it could be seen in the medicine cabinet of any home. And today the ointment has not lost its popularity due to its low cost and effectiveness.

    In addition, this medicine will become a “lifesaver” thanks to its safe composition, developed according to traditional oriental technologies.

    Composition of balm Zvezdochka

    The composition of the “Zvezdochka” ointment includes natural components of plant origin, so the drug can be considered completely natural. Most of them are essential oils, such as camphor oil, eucalyptus oil, peppermint essential oil, clove oil, cinnamon oil, petroleum jelly. In addition, the ointment contains camphor, petroleum jelly, beeswax and menthol, which has a local cooling and analgesic effect.

    Balm release form Zvezdochka

    From the table presented above it can be seen that 3 dosage forms of the “Zvezdochka” balm can be found on sale: ointment, pencil for inhalation and liquid solution.

    The most popular is the Vietnamese drug in the form of an ointment, which is sold in small aluminum jars of 4-5 g. The balm has a solid structure of a yellowish color, but when heated and in contact with the skin it begins to melt. The drug also has a characteristic odor.

    Useful properties and benefits of Zvezdochka balm

    The ointment is intended for external use. Due to its antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, the spectrum of use of Vietnamese Star balm is quite wide:

    • prevention and treatment of influenza, colds (runny nose, cough, etc.) and other inflammatory processes of the respiratory system;
    • prevention and treatment of the musculoskeletal system (joints and spine);
    • prevention and treatment of radiculitis;
    • prevention and treatment of muscle pain, sprains;
    • elimination of headaches and migraines;
    • elimination of toothaches;
    • treatment of injuries (including sports) and bruises;
    • combating increased fatigue, depression and maintaining good spirits;
    • removal of dry calluses on the feet;
    • combating swelling of the feet;
    • fight against skin diseases;

    • use in aroma lamps;
    • seasickness.

    Contraindications and harm of Zvezdochka balm

    Despite its natural composition, like any medicinal product, the “Golden Star” product has its own contraindications, which are caused by excessive sensitivity to the components it contains. Therefore, it is recommended to refrain from using the product:

    • children under 3 years old,
    • pregnant women (the balm does not contain chemicals, but you should still be careful),
    • people with individual intolerance to components.

    When using this product, it is necessary to avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes of the nose and mouth. Also, do not apply ointment to wounds, cuts or burns.

    Period and storage conditions of Zvezdochka balm

    The shelf life is 5 years from the date of manufacture.

    Storage conditions: dark, dry, cool place.

    How to open Zvezdochka balm

    There are several ways, but we note right away that force will not help here.

    1. Pinch the bottom of the jar with 3 fingers of one hand, and with the other, twist the lid back and forth, while pulling up.

    2. Roll the balm on some surface (for example, a table). After some time, the lid will open on its own.

    3. Pry up the jars with a knife with a thin blade.

    Instructions for use of Zvezdochka balm

    From the listed range of uses of the drug it is clear that the balm can be safely called a universal treatment. But “Zvezdochka” ointment exhibits all its effectiveness only when used correctly, namely through acupuncture points. In other words, you need to apply a small amount of the drug to the desired point and massage it clockwise until the skin turns red. During the day, “Zvezdochka” can be used 2-3 times.

    Do not apply a large amount of balm to the skin and affected areas, as this may cause a burn. If you feel strong warmth and burning in the area where the product is applied, wash off the remaining substance with water.

    Application of balm Zvezdochka

    Balm Zvezdochka for runny nose and colds

    In order to prevent and treat colds, it is recommended to treat the wings of the nose and the edges of the nostrils with the substance.

    If your nose is stuffy, massage its wings, the bridge of your nose, and you should also bring the drug to your nose and breathe deeply for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

    Asterisk balm for cough

    For severe cough, apply the drug to the skin of the chest, neck and upper back. Then wrap yourself in a warm blanket or blanket. For convenience, it is recommended to apply the balm at night.

    Balm Zvezdochka for inhalation

    If you suffer from a dry cough, as well as a runny nose, then the ointment can also be used for inhalation. For 1 liter of hot water, 1 pea of Zvezdochka balm is enough. Cover your head with a towel and breathe in the vapors. 10 minutes will be enough. But be careful not to inhale too hot steam to prevent burns to the nasal mucosa.

    . Inhalation is contraindicated if you have a strong, choking cough.

    Asterisk balm for headaches

    Lubricate the skin in the area of the temples, bridge of the nose, behind the ears and the middle of the back of the head with “Vietnamese star”. After 5-10 minutes, relief should come.

    Asterisk balm for toothache

    Rub the substance on the cheek on the side of the diseased tooth. For greater effect, also apply to your earlobes and massage them.

    Balm Zvezdochka for pain in joints, muscles, bruises and sprains

    Apply the balm to the sore spot and rub it in thoroughly. After this, to warm the affected area, wrap it with a towel or any other cloth. Relief should occur within a few hours.

    Balm Zvezdochka for insect bites

    If you have been stung by a bee, bitten by mosquitoes or midges, then apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area of the skin. Relief will not take long to arrive.

    . You should not apply the medicine to scratched wounds, as allergic reactions may occur.

    Balm Zvezdochka for swelling and calluses on the feet

    After taking a bath, rub the preparation into the sole (for calluses) and the skin of the ankle (for swelling).
