Pharmacological properties of the drug Vibrocil

Vibrocil is a combination drug containing phenylephrine and dimethindene.

The drug reduces nasal discharge and helps cleanse the nasal passages without disturbing the physiological functions of the ciliated epithelium and nasal mucosa.

Table of contents:

Phenylephrine belongs to the sympathomimetic amines. It is used as a nasal decongestant with a moderate vasoconstrictor effect, selectively stimulates α-adrenergic receptors in the cavernous venous tissue of the nasal mucosa. In this way, swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses is quickly and permanently eliminated.

Dimetindene, an H1 receptor antagonist, has an antiallergic effect, is effective when used in low doses, and is well tolerated.

Vibrocil is applied topically, so its activity does not correlate with the concentration of active substances in the blood plasma.

With accidental oral absorption, the bioavailability of phenylephrine decreased and amounted to about 38%, the half-life was about 2.5 hours.

The systemic bioavailability of dimethindene after oral administration in solution is about 70%, the half-life is about 6 hours.

Indications for use of the drug Vibrocil

Symptomatic treatment for colds, nasal congestion, acute and chronic rhinitis, seasonal (hay fever) and year-round allergic rhinitis, acute and chronic sinusitis, vasomotor rhinitis. Additional therapy for acute otitis media.

Preparation for surgery in the nasal area and elimination of swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses after surgery.

Vibrocil nasal gel is indicated in case of dry nasal mucosa, in the presence of crusts due to trauma to the nose, as well as to prevent nasal congestion at night during sleep.

Use of the drug Vibrocil

Before administering the drug, you should thoroughly clean your nose.

Nasal drops. Children under 1 year of age (as recommended by a doctor): 1 drop in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

Children aged 1 to 6 years: 1-2 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

Adults and children over 6 years of age: 3-4 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

Nasal gel. Adults and children over 6 years of age: a small amount of gel is injected as deep as possible into each nasal passage 3-4 times a day. It is recommended to apply the last application of the gel before bedtime.

Nasal spray. Adults and children over 6 years of age: 1-2 sprays into each nasal passage 3-4 times a day. The bottle should be held vertically, with the sprayer facing up. Keeping your head straight, insert the tip of the bottle into the nasal passage, squeeze the sprayer once with a short sharp movement and, pulling it out of the nose, unclench it. During injection, it is recommended to inhale lightly through the nose.

The duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days and depends on the severity of the disease.

Contraindications to the use of the drug Vibrocil

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug; Due to the content of phenylephrine, like other vasoconstrictors, it is contraindicated in atrophic rhinitis, as well as in patients taking MAO inhibitors or who have taken them in the previous 14 days.

The drug in gel and spray form is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. It is not recommended to take Vibrocil during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects of the drug Vibrocil

Usually the drug is well tolerated. In some cases, mild and transient local reactions from the nasal mucosa (burning or dry feeling) are possible.

Special instructions for the use of the drug Vibrocil

Vibrocil should not be used for more than 1 week. Prolonged or excessive use of the drug can cause tachyphylaxis and rebound effect (rhinitis medicamentosa).

As with the use of other vasoconstrictors, the recommended dose of the drug should not be exceeded. Excessive use of Vibrocil, especially in children and the elderly, may cause systemic effects of the drug.

The drug should be prescribed with caution to patients with cardiovascular diseases, patients with hypertension (arterial hypertension), with diseases of the thyroid gland and persons with angle-closure glaucoma.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding. The drug is not prescribed.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery. Does not affect.

Interactions of the drug Vibrocil

Instructions for use of Vibrocil nasal drops

But, despite the seeming banality and simplicity of such a disease as a runny nose, its treatment must be responsible and serious, especially when it comes to children, whose nasal mucosa is very vulnerable. In order not to harm health and not aggravate the disease, the choice of suitable drops in It is better to entrust your nose to a doctor.

Many nasal drops or sprays are combination drugs, that is, they contain two or more active ingredients. Vibrocil is very effective among them.

Composition of the drug Vibrocil, release forms

This product is combined and consists of two active components. These are phenylephrine and dimethindene. Each of them has enormous therapeutic significance and plays a strictly defined role in preventing the development of the inflammatory process. In addition, these two main substances are not only highly compatible with each other, but also enhance each other’s positive effects.

According to the instructions for use, in addition to phenylephrine and dimethindene, Vibrocil contains a complex of auxiliary compounds. Their task is to maintain the stability of the dosage form, ensure ease of use and uniform distribution of the drug when it enters the nose.

Distilled water and salts (phosphates and chlorides) create a liquid form of the medicine and resistance to destruction, and lavender oil gives Vibrocil a delicate pleasant smell and protects the mucous membrane from negative factors by creating a thin protective film on its surface.

Vibrocil is available in 3 dosage forms: nasal drops, spray and gel. Nasal drops are a colorless or faint yellow liquid with a subtle lavender odor. Spray is the same solution, but in a bottle with a dispenser. The transparent thick gel comes in a tube and has a lavender scent.

How does Vibrocil work?

Phenylephrine, one of the main active components of the drug, is a very mild vasoconstrictor, an alpha-adrenergic agonist. It acts on the alpha receptors of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is very effective in the treatment of upper respiratory tract diseases in children and adults.

The development of the inflammatory process when an infectious agent penetrates the nose or paranasal sinuses occurs in several directions. This is the destruction of the epithelium and the provision of a pyrogenic effect on the entire body (intoxication syndrome with an increase in body temperature), expansion of the capillaries of the nasal cavity with the release of blood plasma into the intercellular space of the mucous membrane, the development of its edema, and the accelerated formation of abundant mucopurulent secretion.

Vibrocil, thanks to phenylephrine, has an inhibitory effect on pathogenesis (development of the inflammatory process). It moderately narrows the capillaries of the nasal mucosa without causing damage (if the instructions for use are followed).

As a result, its swelling decreases, breathing through the nose is restored, congestion disappears and the sense of smell improves. The swelling of the mucous membrane of the paranasal sinuses and their excretory ducts also decreases. In addition, Vibrocil significantly reduces the production of mucopurulent discharge.

Another active component of Vibrocil, dimethindene, is an antiallergic agent and acts on H1-histamine receptors. When an allergic reaction to an antigen develops in the body, various inflammatory mediators are released.

One of the mediators of inflammation is histamine, which, when antigens enter the body, enters the blood plasma in huge quantities. When histamine molecules bind to H1-histamine receptors, the rapid development of an allergic reaction begins and the manifestation of a vivid clinical picture.

Dimetindene is able to stop this pathological process at the very beginning of its development, as well as at any stage of allergic inflammation. It has an antihistamine effect by binding its molecules to H1 histamine receptors instead of histamine molecules. As a result, histamine is “out of work” and is not able to lead to the onset of an atypical response.

The remarkable properties of phenylephrine and dimethindene are combined in the drug Vibrocil without the slightest damage to each other. Thanks to their combined effects, the drug can be used for a whole range of upper respiratory tract diseases in children and adults.

Indications for use of Vibrocil

Based on the vasoconstrictor and antihistamine effect of Vibrocil, the drug is very effective in the treatment of inflammatory processes in the nasal mucosa of both infectious and allergic origin. And the gentle effect of phenylephrine allows the use of this combined remedy at any age, even in very young children.

According to the instructions for use, Vibrocil nasal drops can be prescribed for adults and children with the following diseases:

  • acute rhinitis of infectious origin;
  • chronic rhinitis of infectious origin;
  • allergic rhinitis (seasonal, year-round, episodic);
  • vasomotor (neurogenic, neuroreflex) rhinitis;
  • acute and chronic sinusitis of infectious origin;
  • allergic sinusitis;
  • acute infectious otitis media;
  • postoperative period after surgical interventions on the nasal cavity.

For all these pathologies, the use of Vibrocil must be agreed with the attending physician, since in some situations it is better to refuse its use.

Contraindications to the use of Vibrocil, possible side effects

The drug is contraindicated if it is reliably known that the patient has an individual intolerance to phenylephrine or dimethindene. In addition, even taking into account the mild effect of phenylephrine on the epithelium, Vibrocil is not prescribed for chronic runny nose, occurring with hypotrophy or atrophy of the nasal mucosa. You should also refrain from using the drug if the patient is taking MAO inhibitors (some antidepressants and natural substances).

In the presence of certain concomitant diseases, Vibrocil is used very carefully. These are pathologies of the heart and blood vessels (atherosclerosis, coronary and hypertension), diabetes mellitus, glaucoma and other chronic pathologies. These limitations are due to the vasoconstrictor effect of phenylephrine. In children, Vibrocil nasal drops are used very individually for heart diseases, arrhythmias, and thyroid diseases.

Considering the vasoconstrictor (narrowing of capillaries) effect of Vibrocil, it is better not to use it during pregnancy and lactation. In these situations, its use is possible only in extreme cases (for example, when infectious inflammation is superimposed on an allergic rhinitis in a pregnant or lactating woman), under mandatory medical supervision.

Side effects in adults and children when using Vibrocil nasal drops are diagnosed very rarely and are associated with the local influence of the drug. There may be a brief sensation of dryness, burning or mild discomfort in the nasal cavity.

How to use Vibrocil in the form of nasal drops

The first step before using the product is to cleanse the nasal passages of contents. In children over 6 years of age and adults, Vibrocil is prescribed 3-4 drops 3-4 times a day. Children 1 – 6 years old – 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day. For babies under 1 year old, one drop 3-4 times a day is enough.

The duration of treatment with Vibrocil should be agreed with the attending physician. The maximum course for an adult patient is 10 days, for children – no more than 5 days. With long courses, damage to the nasal mucosa may occur or the systemic effect of the drug may begin.

The drug Vibrocil is a very effective combination medicine. It is necessary to take into account all restrictions and contraindications for its use so as not to cause harm to the patient’s health.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Phenylephrine belongs to the group of sympathomimetics and, when applied topically, is characterized by a moderate vasoconstrictor effect due to stimulation of alpha 1 -adrenergic receptors localized in the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa. This effect ensures the elimination of swelling of the nasal mucosa and its paranasal sinuses.

Dimetindene has antiallergic properties, being an antagonist of histamine H1 receptors . At the same time, there is no decrease in the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the nasal mucosa.

Pharmacokinetics

Vibrocil is designed exclusively for local use, so its active components practically do not enter the systemic circulation, and its activity is not determined by the concentration of dimethindene and phenylephrine in the blood plasma.

Indications for use

  • Vasomotor and chronic rhinitis;
  • Allergic rhinitis (including those occurring with hay fever);
  • Acute rhinitis, including runny nose due to colds;
  • Chronic and acute sinusitis;
  • Acute otitis media (simultaneously with other drugs).

Vibrocil is also used in preparation for surgical interventions in the nasal area and to eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane of the paranasal sinuses and nose after operations in this area.

Contraindications

The following contraindications are common to all dosage forms:

  • Atrophic rhinitis (with foul-smelling discharge – ozena, inclusive);
  • Simultaneous use with MAO inhibitors, and also earlier than 14 days after the end of their use;
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Vibrocil spray and gel are contraindicated for children under 6 years of age.

Due to the possible systemic vasoconstrictor effect of phenylephrine, the drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding or pregnancy.

According to the instructions, Vibrocil should be used with caution for the following diseases:

  • Angle-closure glaucoma;
  • Thyroid diseases;
  • Cardiovascular diseases (generalized atherosclerosis, arrhythmias, arterial hypertension);
  • Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus;
  • Prostate adenoma.

As with any local vasoconstrictor, caution must be exercised when prescribing the drug to patients who have severe reactions to sympathomimetics (for example, with the development of dizziness and insomnia).

Instructions for use of Vibrocil: method and dosage

Vibrocil is used intranasally. Before administering the drug, you need to clear your nasal passages.

A single dose for children over 6 years of age and adults is usually 3-4 drops or 1-2 sprays into each nasal passage. Frequency of application – 3-4 times a day.

Children under 6 years of age may only use the drug in the form of Vibrocil drops:

Frequency of application – 3-4 times a day.

Vibrocil drops are instilled with the head thrown back. This head position should be maintained for several minutes after the procedure.

When using the spray, the sprayer must be held vertically, with the tip facing up. The tip is inserted into the nasal passage. Keeping your head straight, squeeze the sprayer once with a short sharp movement and release it, removing the tip from your nose. During injection, it is recommended to inhale slightly through the nose.

The gel should be applied 3-4 times a day as deep as possible into each nasal passage. It is recommended to apply the last application shortly before bedtime. This will ensure the effect lasts throughout the night.

Side effects

When using Vibrocil, side effects develop infrequently in the form of transient and mild local reactions from the nasal mucosa (a feeling of dryness or burning).

Overdose

An overdose of Vibrocil can provoke the development of sympathomimetic effects, the most common of which are pale skin, premature contraction of the ventricles of the heart, rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, insomnia, emotional arousal, fatigue, tremor, and headache in the back of the head. In some cases, symptoms of overdose include pain in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and slight sedation.

Treatment with laxatives and activated charcoal is recommended. For adults and children over 6 years old, forced diuresis (taking as much fluid as possible) is effective. There is no specific antidote. For increased blood pressure caused by phenylephrine, the use of alpha-blockers is allowed.

special instructions

The drug in any form of release is not recommended for use for longer than 7 days without consulting a doctor. Prolonged (more than 14 days) or excessive use can lead to the development of tachyphylaxis and rebound effect (rhinitis medicamentosa), as well as the development of systemic vasoconstrictor effects.

To avoid the development of manifestations of the systemic action of Vibrocil, it is necessary to follow the doses recommended in the instructions.

The drug in gel form is especially indicated for dry nasal mucosa and the presence of crusts, in the treatment of the consequences of nasal trauma, as well as to prevent nasal congestion at night.

Vibrocil does not have a sedative effect. The drug does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions and the ability to drive vehicles and machinery.

Use in childhood

The use of Vibrocil spray and gel is contraindicated for children under 6 years of age.

Drug interactions

Vibrocil should not be prescribed simultaneously with beta-blockers and tricyclic antidepressants.

Analogs

There are no exact analogues of Vibrocil. Adrianol, Otrivin, Nazivin, Ximelin, Rinofluimucil have a similar effect.

Vibrocil for children: instructions for use, nasal drops for a runny nose, reviews, price

Vibrocil is often prescribed by doctors both in case of runny nose caused by colds and in case of allergic rhinitis. It has a complex effect on the nasal mucosa - it effectively constricts blood vessels and has an antiallergic effect.

Dosage form

The manufacturer produces the drug in three dosage forms - nasal drops, spray and gel. Drops are one of the most convenient forms for topical use in young children.

The drug is available in 15 ml bottles with a pipette cap. The drops are completely colorless or have a slightly saturated yellowish tint. The medicine has an unobtrusive lavender scent.

Compound

The drug contains two main active ingredients - phenylephrine and dimethindene maleate. There are also additional ingredients such as lavender oil.

Pharmacological group and pharmacokinetics

The drug belongs to a group of drugs that have vasoconstrictor, antiallergic, and anticongestive effects.

The medicine acts at the local level - in the nasal mucosa. Its activity and effectiveness do not depend on the concentration of active substances in the patient’s blood.

Indications for use

Vibrocil is prescribed by pediatricians, therapists and otolaryngologists in the following cases:

  1. Rhinitis in acute and chronic forms, including colds.
  2. An allergic type of rhinitis, including hay fever.
  3. Vasomotor rhinitis.
  4. Sinusitis and polysinusitis in acute or chronic form.
  5. Otitis media in acute form - as an auxiliary drug in complex therapy.
  6. Sinusitis - as an auxiliary drug, simultaneously with treatment with antibacterial drugs.
  7. To reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa.
  8. During preparation for surgery in the nasal cavity, as well as for any medical procedures in this area, after operations.
  9. ARVI.
  10. Runny nose in acute or chronic form.

The drug has a high safety profile. However, no matter what the symptoms, you should not prescribe it yourself without consulting a doctor.

Contraindications and restrictions

Vibrocil in the form of nasal drops, as well as in other forms, is contraindicated for use in the following cases:

  1. Individual intolerance or hypersensitivity to the components of the drug - main or auxiliary.
  2. Allergy to the composition of the medicine.
  3. Athorphic rhinitis.
  4. Angle-closure glaucoma.
  5. In the case of therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, Vibrocil cannot be used during treatment and for another 2 weeks after the end of therapy.

In order to make sure that treatment with Vibrocil is permitted in each specific case of the disease, you need to consult with your doctor about contraindications.

special instructions

The drug should be used with extreme caution and only under medical supervision in patients with the following diseases:

  1. Arrhythmia.
  2. Hypertension.
  3. Atherosclerosis.
  4. Increased intraocular pressure.
  5. Other severe cardiovascular diseases.
  6. Pathologies and diseases of the thyroid gland.
  7. Epilepsy.
  8. Hyperthyroidism.
  9. Diabetes.
  10. Prostate adenoma.
  11. Blockage of the bladder neck.

If the following symptoms occur during therapy, treatment should also be carried out with caution and under the supervision of a specialist:

  1. Sleep disorders.
  2. Dizziness.
  3. Tremor of the limbs.
  4. Increased blood pressure, arrhythmia.

Long-term treatment with Vibrocil, as well as exceeding the daily dose of the drug, is not recommended. It is advisable to limit the duration of therapy to 1 week. If your runny nose does not go away during this time, you need to consult a doctor and choose a drug with a similar effect.

Considering the pronounced vasoconstrictor effect that the drug has, and which can spread to other vessels in the body, the use of Vibrocil is extremely undesirable during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Directions for use and doses

For children, Vibrocil should be prescribed by a doctor, based on the clinical picture and taking into account contraindications, instructions for the drug, and the treatment regimen recommended by the manufacturer.

Before using the drops, you need to clear your nasal passages of mucus as much as possible. Then you need to tilt your head back and drop the appropriate number of drops into each nostril for the patient’s age. After this, keep your head tilted back for another 15 seconds. The drug begins to act almost immediately, breathing becomes easier, swelling of the mucous membrane subsides, and the amount of secretion produced decreases.

Dosage of drops depending on age:

  1. Newborns and infants under 1 year of age - 1 drop in each nostril no more than 3-4 times a day.
  2. Children aged 1 to 6 years – 1-2 drops in each nostril no more than 3-4 times a day.
  3. Children over 6 years of age, teenagers, adults – 3-4 drops in each nostril no more than 3-4 times a day.
The course of treatment depends on the dynamics of the patient’s complaints, but not longer than 7 days in a row.
It is advisable for infants to put nose drops immediately before feeding so that the baby can breathe calmly through his nose while sucking.

Side effects

The use of the drug does not cause any side effects, except for minor reactions from the mucous membrane that are uncomfortable for the patient. You may experience a burning sensation or dryness in your nose. Mild nosebleeds may also occur. If side effects cause significant discomfort, Vibrocil therapy should be stopped and an adequate analogue should be selected.

Vibrocil is not recommended for use simultaneously with:

  • MAO inhibitors.
  • Beta blockers.
  • Tetracyclic and tricyclic antidepressants.

It is recommended to pause between treatment with incompatible drugs for at least 14 days.

Vibrocil is not a sedative and does not in any way affect the patient’s ability to drive machinery/vehicles.

Overdose

If treatment with Vibrocil lasts more than 7 days, physiological addiction to the drug, tachyphylaxis, and drug-induced rhinitis may develop. It is possible that the vasoconstrictor effect of the drug may spread beyond the nasal area.

In case of overdose, the following symptoms may occur:

  • From the peripheral and central nervous system:
    • Tremor of the limbs.
    • Severe fatigue.
    • Insomnia and other sleep disorders.
    • Increased excitability.
  • From the cardiovascular system:
    • Paleness of the skin and mucous membranes.
    • Increased blood pressure.
    • Feeling of increased heartbeat.
    • Dizziness.

Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent; when applied topically, it has a moderate vasoconstrictor effect (due to stimulation of alpha 1 -adrenergic receptors located in the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa), eliminates swelling of the nasal mucosa and its paranasal sinuses.

Dimetindene is an antiallergic drug - an antagonist of histamine H1 receptors ; does not reduce the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the nasal mucosa.

Pharmacokinetics

Vibrocil ® is intended for local use; its activity does not depend on the concentration of active substances in the blood plasma.

Indications for the drug Vibrocil ®

acute rhinitis (including runny nose due to colds);

allergic rhinitis (including hay fever);

acute and chronic sinusitis;

acute otitis media (as an auxiliary treatment method);

preparation for surgical interventions in the nasal area and elimination of swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses after surgical interventions in this area.

Contraindications

children's age (up to 6 years).

With caution: cardiovascular diseases (arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, generalized atherosclerosis), thyroid diseases, angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. As with the use of any local vasoconstrictor, caution should be exercised when prescribing Vibrocil ® to patients with severe reactions to sympathomimetics (for example, the development of insomnia and dizziness).

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Given the possible systemic vasoconstrictor effect of phenylephrine, Vibrocil ® is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects

Rarely - mild and transient local reactions from the nasal mucosa (burning sensation or dryness).

Interaction

Phenylephrine (as well as other vasoconstrictors) is contraindicated in patients currently receiving MAO inhibitors or who have received them within the previous 2 weeks.

The drug should not be prescribed simultaneously with tricyclic antidepressants or beta-blockers.

Directions for use and doses

Symptoms: When Vibrocil ® was accidentally ingested by small children, no serious side effects were observed. In most cases, there were no symptoms of overdose, but sometimes symptoms such as a feeling of fatigue, pain in the stomach, slight tachycardia, arterial hypertension, agitation, insomnia, and pale skin were reported (more often in children with accidental ingestion).

Treatment: administration of activated carbon and laxatives (gastric lavage is not required); or administering large amounts of fluid (children over 6 years of age and adults). There is no specific antidote.

special instructions

Vibrocil ® should not be used for more than 1 week without consulting a doctor. Long-term (more than 2 weeks) or excessive use of the drug can cause tachyphylaxis and rebound effect (rhinitis medicamentosa), and lead to the development of a systemic vasoconstrictor effect.

The recommended doses of Vibrocil ® should not be exceeded. Otherwise, manifestations of the systemic effect of the drug may develop.

For children under 6 years of age, only nasal drops are used.

Vibrocil ® in gel form is especially indicated in case of dry nasal mucosa, in the presence of crusts, in the consequences of nasal trauma, as well as to prevent nasal congestion at night.
