Spray "Evkazolin Aqua": instructions for use, analogues and reviews

Each of us has probably experienced nasal congestion and runny nose at least once in our lives. It becomes difficult to breathe, and life no longer seems so comfortable.

Table of contents:

This condition interferes with normal sleep and leading a normal lifestyle. In this article we will look at what Evkazolin Aqua anti-runny nose spray is. Instructions for use, analogues and reviews are listed in this article. Therefore, after reading the information provided, you can make the right choice for yourself.

Description of the drug

The nasal medicine "Evkazolin Aqua" is in the form of a spray intended for irrigation of the nasal cavity. It is this form of release that allows the active substances to be delivered to the right place as quickly as possible. At the same time, droplets of healing liquid will be able to get into even the most inaccessible places. However, if necessary, you can purchase this product in the form of drops. The drug is able to have a vasoconstrictor effect, as well as eliminate swelling and hyperemia.

The drug "Evkazolin Aqua", the instructions for use of which are described below, is considered so effective because it contains xylometazoline. In addition, the composition also includes eucalyptus oil, which has an antiseptic effect. This component will help prevent the infection from spreading further.

Doctors do not recommend using the spray for a long time, since after a few days of use the body simply begins to get used to it. In this case, side effects may begin to appear.

What is the principle of operation

The drug "Evkazolin Aqua", instructions for use for which are included in each cardboard package, is capable of relieving nasal congestion for a long time. It becomes easier to breathe, as the secretion of mucous secretion, as well as hyperemia, decreases. In addition, the blood flow of the vessels located in the nasal cavity itself decreases. The eucalyptus oil contained in the composition can have a moisturizing and anti-inflammatory effect, which speeds up the healing process.

The drug does not have a systemic effect on the body. The first effect after use can be noticed within ten minutes. It really does become easier to breathe, and patient reviews confirm this. If the dosage was observed correctly, it means that the drug will penetrate the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity in a very small amount.

For rhinitis, the drug can alleviate the condition for seven to eight hours, after which all the symptoms of this disease will return again. "Evkazolin Aqua" instructions for use are positioned as a very effective remedy that can relieve you of unpleasant symptoms. However, it does not have a significant therapeutic effect.

In what cases can it be used?

Most often, this drug is prescribed to eliminate the symptoms of rhinitis. In this case, the disease can have both an acute and chronic form. In any case, the patient will complain of a runny nose, nasal congestion, dizziness and headache, and sometimes increased body temperature. Please note that the chronic form of rhinitis is more dangerous than the acute form. Therefore, if you notice that the disease periodically recurs, be sure to go to the hospital.

So, in what cases does the instruction for use recommend using “Evkazolin Aqua” (spray):

- all types of rhinitis, including allergic;

- the presence of inflammatory processes in the middle ear, as well as with sinusitis;

— the remedy is recommended by doctors for hay fever.

This medicine can also be used before medical examinations in the nasal cavity.

"Evkazolin Aqua" (spray): instructions for use

The product in the form of a spray is very convenient to use, since you can use it at absolutely any time in absolutely any place. The drug is sprayed evenly, so all areas of the nasal cavity will be exposed to it. In order for the product to have the maximum therapeutic effect, before using it you need to thoroughly clean the nasal passages of the mucus accumulated there. The medicine should be squirted into each nostril. To do this, bring the bottle to your nose and hold it in an upright position. As soon as you press the dispenser, immediately take a deep breath. Using this technique, you can carefully distribute the medication over the entire inner surface of the nose.

The instructions recommend using Evkazolin Aqua spray only if the patient has severe nasal congestion and it is very difficult to breathe. The drug can be used by adults, as well as children over twelve years of age. One spray should be administered into each nostril. The maximum number of injections that can be performed per day is three. Do not increase the dosage under any circumstances. This will lead to the development of side effects.

Important information

Experts warn that if you use this spray for more than seven days, addiction to it will begin to develop. But solving this problem will not be so easy. In addition, the product does not have a therapeutic effect. It will only make breathing easier and reduce swelling. If you use the product for more than a week, there is a risk of developing a disease such as drug-induced rhinitis. You simply won’t be able to get rid of it at home.

"Evkazolin Aqua": instructions for use during pregnancy

Typically, this drug is prescribed to pregnant women extremely rarely, however, according to reviews from pregnant women, the drug is really effective even during pregnancy.

There are no side effects. Under no circumstances should you start self-medicating. If the doctor has confirmed that the nasal spray will not have a negative effect on you and your unborn baby, then you can safely use it.

Use for children

"Evkazolin Aqua" instructions for use for children recommend using only in the form of drops. This type of drug can be prescribed to children over six years of age. Drops, just like the spray, work well for nasal congestion and relieve swelling. However, they do not have a healing effect. Therefore, before using them, be sure to consult your pediatrician.

Place two or three drops into each nostril. It is best to do this in a supine position. However, if this is not possible, then you just need to tilt your head back a little. This procedure should be carried out three or four times a day for several days.

Are there any side effects when using

According to patient reviews, Evkazolin Aqua drops (instructions for use are described in this article) can lead to side effects. Some patients complain of excessive dryness in the nasal area, as well as burning and stinging. If you use the product for too long, you may experience a headache, dizziness, and an increase in blood pressure.

Under no circumstances should the product be used by patients who are hypersensitive to its constituent components.

Analogs

The drug "Evkazolin Aqua" has a huge number of similar products. They all have similar effects, but seek advice from an experienced professional before using them. So, pay attention to the products that can replace the Eucazolin Aqua spray:

- “Rinostop” and many others.

Reviews

Many users note the advantages of using a spray compared to similar drops: the spray is more economical, the medicinal substance is evenly distributed over the surface of the mucous membrane, it is convenient to use in any conditions - at work and in public places. The drug acts quickly and effectively.

Xylometazoline is a decongestant with an average duration of action, which allows you to reduce the frequency of use and reduce it to 1-2 times a day. This is also noted as a positive quality of the drug. It is important that everyone who took it noted that after using the spray the mucous membrane does not dry out (due to the presence of eucalyptus oil and water).

With prolonged use, any decongestants can worsen a runny nose, cause a persistent deterioration in blood supply to the mucous membrane and cause its atrophy. Addiction to them quickly develops, which is expressed in a decrease or complete cessation of the effect. In this regard, many drugs are used for 3–5 days. Preparations containing essential oils, which include Evkazolin Aqua, Pinosol, Kameton, can be used for a longer period - up to 7 days.

It must be remembered that all vasoconstrictors for topical use can cause increased blood pressure and tachycardia. This is mentioned in reviews of Eucazoline Aqua. This fact limits its use in the elderly, patients suffering from arterial hypertension and thyrotoxicosis. For some users, the spray caused irritation of the nasal mucosa, a burning sensation in the nose and throat.

Price of Evkazolina Aqua, where to buy

You can buy it in many pharmacies in Moscow without a doctor’s prescription. Approximate price of Evkazoline 0.1% spray in bottles is 10 ml rubles.

  • to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal tissues when diagnosed with otitis media;
  • as preparatory procedures for diagnostics and therapy of the nasal cavity.

Release form

Evkazolin can be produced in the form of a spray, in a glass bottle with a special dispenser (10 g), or in the form of drops, in a glass bottle with a nozzle for drip dosing (10 g). Each bottle is packed in individual cardboard packaging.

The active component of the drug is xylometazoline hydrochloride in an amount of 1 mg. Additional substances include: benzalkonium chloride, eucalyptus oil, propylene glycol, macrogol, povidone, etc.

Pharmacodynamics

Evkazolin is a medicine for the common cold for external use. The active substance xylometazoline can reduce the filling of the lumen of blood vessels with blood and relieve swelling of mucous tissues. The medication has a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect, reduces the degree of redness of tissue surfaces and the release of exudate, which helps restore normal nasal breathing.

Eucazoline effectively reduces the manifestations of the inflammatory process and inhibits the growth of microbial cells. Eucalyptus oil plays the role of a mild antispasmodic and moisturizer for the mucous membranes; in addition, eucalyptus is able to suppress the development of Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of dysentery and Trichomonas. Eucalyptus essential oils also have a relaxing and analgesic effect.

Pharmacokinetics

The medication cannot have any systemic effect on the body, since when applied topically, the absorption of the active components into the blood is extremely insignificant.

When used externally, the therapeutic effect is observed within the first minutes, with a total duration of action of up to 10 hours.

Use of Evkazoline during pregnancy

Due to the fact that the medication does not penetrate the systemic bloodstream, its use in standard dosages during pregnancy is allowed. Also, local use of the medication is allowed during the period of breastfeeding. There is no need to stop breastfeeding during treatment with the drug.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Evkazolin are:

  • increased sensitivity of the body to the components of the drug;
  • increased intraocular pressure;
  • atrophy of the mucous tissues of the nasal cavity;
  • hypertension;
  • hyperthyroidism (thyrotoxicosis).

The drug in the form of a spray is used for children from 12 years of age.

The drip form of Evkazolin can be used from 7 years of age.

Side effects of Evkazoline

The drug has minimal side effects, which are quite rare. Among them:

  • tingling sensation and dryness in the nasal cavity;
  • urge to sneeze;
  • liquefaction and hypersecretion of exudate;
  • temporary deterioration of olfactory functions;
  • signs of atrophy of the mucous membranes;
  • cardiac disorders;
  • increased blood pressure;
  • allergic manifestations.

Long-term and unsystematic use of the drug can lead to a decrease in susceptibility to its properties.

Directions for use and doses

The drug is used externally:

  • Evkazoline spray - allows the active substance to be evenly distributed over the surface of the tissues of the nasal cavity. Can be prescribed to adults and children over 12 years of age. The spray is injected once into each nostril; the injection can be repeated after 8-10 hours;
  • Eucazoline in the form of drops - used from 7 years of age to 12 years - one drop in each nostril, with possible re-administration after 8-10 hours. Adults inject up to 2 drops into each nostril, the interval between administration of drops is 8-10 hours. Duration of treatment is up to one week.

Overdose

Significant excess of recommended dosages can provoke the development of visual dysfunction, hypertension, increased intraocular pressure, migraine, and drying of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Long-term use of high doses of the drug can lead to the development of atrophy of mucous tissue at the injection site.

Treatment of overdose is carried out by prescribing sympatholytic drugs and α-blockers (for example, phentolamine). If necessary, symptomatic therapy is prescribed.

In case of accidental ingestion of a medication, gastric lavage, sorbent medications (activated carbon, sorbex) and, sometimes, laxatives (regulax, bisacodyl) are used.

Interactions with other drugs

The drug Evkazolin is capable of interacting with other medications only when the drug has a resorptive effect.

Drugs that excite adrenergic receptors (ephedrine, galazolin, naphthyzin, mezaton) can enhance the effects of Evkazoline.

β-adrenergic receptor blockers (adrenaline, norepinephrine), sympatholytic agents (octadine, reserpine) and calcium channel blockers (cinnarizine, verapamil, amlodipine) can weaken the effect of Eucazoline.

Tricyclic antidepressants (imipramine, azaphene) reduce their own activity when used simultaneously with Eucazoline.

The effect of combined use of Eucazoline with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (metralindole, selegiline) may be reduced.

Sympathomimetics should not be prescribed together with sedatives.

Storage conditions

It is recommended to store the drug in its original packaging at a temperature of 22-24°C, avoiding direct ultraviolet rays.

How to use Evkazoline nasal drops?

Each of us has repeatedly experienced discomfort due to difficulty breathing caused by a runny nose. Pathological changes in the mucous membrane of the nasal cavities affect sleep, reduce ability to work and significantly worsen the usual way of life. The pharmacological industry produces a sufficient number of different remedies for rhinitis. Their actions are aimed at eliminating the causative agent of infection and relieving swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasal passages.

One of the widely used sympathomimetic drugs in ENT practice is Evkazolin. This is a topical drug for nasal use. Evkazolin refers to vasoconstrictor drugs that have contraindications. Therefore, before use, consultation with a doctor is necessary.

Description of the drug

Eucazoline contains two active ingredients:

  1. Xylometazoline (alpha-adrenergic stimulant) has a pronounced vasoconstrictor ability, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa, and eliminates hyperemia. Helps relieve redness of the skin near the nasal wings and reduce secretion.
  2. Eucalyptus oil softens the inner surface of the nasal passages. Helps relieve nasal spasm and congestion. It also has antibacterial and antiviral properties.

The excipients in Eucazoline include: propylene glycol, water, benzalkonium chloride.

The nasal drug is available in two forms, a spray (Evkazolin Aqua) and drops in the form of an oily yellowish substance. The drops are in a glass bottle with a volume of 10 grams (one in a cardboard box).

The package also includes a dropper insert and instructions for use. The product is stored in a dark place, out of reach of children, at a temperature of no more than 25 degrees, for 2 years from the date of production. Dispensed in pharmacies without a prescription.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Eucazoline, a nasal remedy in the form of drops, thanks to its active substance, effectively affects the inflamed lining of the nasal sinuses, relieving swelling.

The drug prevents excessive filling of the lumens of the nasal vessels with blood.

Helps normalize breathing by reducing secretion production and vasoconstrictor action.

The use of the drug stops the inflammatory process and inhibits the growth of bacteria. Acts as an antispasmodic.

Moisturizes the mucous membrane of the nasal passages, protecting it from drying out. Eucalyptus essential oil has an analgesic effect.

Evkazoline suppresses the manifestation of tuberculous mycobacteria, the causative agent of trichomonas, staphylococcus and dysentery.

The effect of the drug occurs in the first minutes and lasts for ten hours. Considering that the drops are topical preparations, their absorption into the blood is not significant. They are not addictive. But they have contraindications, which limits their use to people at risk and pregnant women.

Use of the drug by pregnant women

Self-medication is especially dangerous in the first trimester, when the primary processes of the body are formed in the embryo. In subsequent periods there is no such strict restriction, but, nevertheless, is it possible to take Evkazolin during pregnancy, given that it is a vasoconstrictor drug.

The effects of the medicine can narrow not only the lumens of the vessels located in the nose, but also the capillaries of the placenta. This negative process is a direct road to hypoxia in the fetus.

The prescription of Evkazolin is determined by the need for its use and the impossibility of replacing it with more gentle means for the mother and unborn child. Therapy is carried out under the supervision of a doctor and in compliance with individual dosage.

Important. Treatment of runny nose in pregnant women should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
