Acc cough tablets

ACC for cough: instructions, price and analogues

A drug called ACC is very popular in the treatment of cough. It is easy to use, effective and safe. The use of this drug is acceptable for both dry and wet coughs.

Table of contents:

Thanks to its safe components, ACC can be given to children over a certain age. ACC is a mucolytic drug that has a complex effect.

ACC: composition, properties, storage and release form

ACC is an effective mucolytic and expectorant drug

The main active ingredient of the drug is acetylcysteine. This substance has a pronounced mucolytic and anti-inflammatory effect.

ACC for cough, the price of which is low compared to other drugs, effectively copes with stagnation of phlegm in the lungs and the inflammatory process in the bronchi.

The drug is available in the form of syrup for children, granules for preparing a suspension, and effervescent tablets. Different forms have different tastes: lemon, blackberry, orange. Tablets and granules are stored for up to 3 years from the date of production. The prepared solution is not intended for storage.

The drug should be stored at temperatures up to 25 degrees in a dark place out of reach of children.

The ACC drug has three important properties:

  • Liquefies mucus. With various inflammatory, infectious, bacterial diseases of the respiratory tract, a protective reaction begins, and the production of sputum in the bronchi increases. Sputum is removed from the bronchi, freeing them from pathogens. If the mucus is too viscous, the cough reflex is not able to push it out, a dry cough occurs, and meanwhile mucus accumulates in the lungs. ACC allows you to break down the bonds between molecules in sputum and make it less viscous.
  • Relieves inflammation. The drug helps stop the inflammatory process. The use of acetylcysteine simultaneously with antibiotics enhances the antibacterial effect. The effect of the drug also persists with purulent sputum.
  • Has an antioxidant effect. The drug binds and promotes the removal of free radicals from the lungs, which protects the mucous membrane from their destructive effects.
  • The ACC begins to act quickly. The mucolytic effect occurs already on the first day of use. The mucus becomes thinner and easier to remove from the lungs. The drug reduces the duration of the disease, promotes the transition of a dry cough into a wet and more productive one.

Purpose of the ACC

ACC is prescribed for respiratory diseases accompanied by a dry cough

The drug can be used for various types of cough, diseases that are accompanied by accumulation of sputum in the bronchi. It can be used not only for respiratory diseases, but also for some types of sinusitis and otitis media. Before using the drug ACC, it is advisable to consult a doctor for advice.

Indications for use of the drug:

  • ARVI. Acute viral infections often begin with a dry cough. The faster it becomes wet, the faster the recovery will come. However, the drug will be effective only when there is accumulation of sputum in the bronchi.
  • Bronchitis. ACC is effective for viral, infectious, tuberculous bronchitis. In the acute form, inflammation of the bronchi is accompanied by high body temperature, a dry cough, an unpleasant pressing feeling in the chest, weakness, and wheezing when breathing. When sputum accumulates, mucolytic drugs are prescribed for ACC.
  • Tracheitis. This disease affects the mucous membrane of the trachea, but it can develop against the background of other diseases of the respiratory tract, leading to the accumulation of viscous sputum in the bronchi. Symptoms of tracheitis are attacks of exhausting dry cough, sore throat and chest, and soreness.
  • Pneumonia. Inflammation of the lungs is often bacterial in nature and is accompanied by the accumulation of purulent sputum in the lungs. Pneumonia causes fever, severe cough, shortness of breath and pain in the chest area. It has been proven that taking antibiotics together with ACC can significantly reduce the time of illness and alleviate symptoms.
  • Lung abscess. With this disease, a limited area of the lung tissue becomes inflamed and begins to disintegrate, resulting in the formation of a small cavity filled with purulent fluid. The patient experiences shortness of breath, coughing attacks, fever, and weakness.

It is also possible to use the drug for cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease after consulting a doctor.

Dosage for children and adults, application

The dosage depends on the age and weight of the patient, diagnosis and severity of the condition.

The dosage of ACC during treatment should be determined by a doctor. The optimal dosage for an adult, which does not lead to an overdose, is no more than 500 mg per 1 kg of weight per day.

It is worth remembering that acetylcysteine may reduce the effectiveness of some antibacterial drugs, so it is not recommended to take them at the same time. You must wait at least 2 hours before taking another drug.

The dosage also differs depending on the form of release of the drug:

  • Effervescent tablets and granules for preparing a solution are used 1 tablet or one sachet at a time, 2-3 times a day. The sachet contains 200 mg of the substance. For children over 2 years of age, the dosage is divided in half, that is, half a sachet and half a tablet.
  • Powder and tablets are dissolved in 1 glass of clean water. It is necessary to drink the solution immediately after dissolving the drug, since it is not stored for a long time. The prepared solution can be stored for a maximum of 2 hours in a cool place.

It is recommended to additionally drink plain water between doses of the drug, as it also helps to thin the mucus and enhances the effect of acetylcysteine.

For diseases that occur without complications, the drug is taken for up to a week. For more severe or chronic diseases, long-term use of the drug is possible until complete recovery.

More information about the drug ACC can be found in the video:

In case of cystic fibrosis (a disease accompanied by a violation of the secretion of all glands in the body and serious disorders of the respiratory system), to remove mucus, it is possible to increase the daily dose to 800 mg per kg of weight (for adults and adolescents).

ACC is recommended to be taken immediately after meals. If desired, you can dissolve the drug in iced tea or juice. The drug is not taken at night, as the mucolytic effect can lead to increased coughing. The last dose of the drug should be no later than 6 pm.

Contraindications and side effects

Do not exceed the dosage as side effects may occur

If the rules of use and recommended dosages are followed, side effects are rare.

Contraindications include the following diseases and conditions:

  • Allergy to acetylcysteine. Allergic reactions are rare, but can be quite severe if you are hypersensitive to acetylcysteine.
  • Peptic ulcer disease. For stomach and duodenal ulcers during relapse, it is not recommended to take the drug, as it can have an irritating effect on the inflamed mucous membranes.
  • Sputum with blood. The appearance of blood streaks in sputum can be a sign of various conditions: from capillary damage to a malignant tumor. It is not recommended to take medications until the causes of the condition are identified.
  • Pulmonary hemorrhage. If pulmonary hemorrhage is suspected, the use of mucolytic drugs is prohibited.
  • Pregnancy and lactation. In some cases, doctors prescribe ACC during pregnancy if the potential benefit outweighs the possible harm, but the instructions for the drug list pregnancy as a contraindication. During lactation, ACC should also not be taken, since it will pass through breast milk to the baby, which can cause various side effects and an allergic reaction. If it is necessary to take the drug, the question of interrupting feeding is raised.
  • Kidney and liver failure. The drug tends to accumulate in the liver and is excreted through the kidneys in the urine. If the functioning of these organs is seriously impaired, symptoms of overdose may occur.

Side effects include allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, tachycardia, rarely anaphylactic shock), abdominal pain, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, bowel movements, heartburn, stomatitis, tinnitus, headache. In case of overdose, nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramps are observed.

Price and analogues

The price of the drug depends on the pharmacy chain. The price for 20 bags of granules ranges from 2 to 3 dollars, for effervescent tablets - from 5 to 6 dollars, for syrup - from 4 to 5 dollars.

If you are individually intolerant to the drug, your doctor may recommend ACC analogues. They differ in composition (mainly excipients), price, but all have a mucolytic effect.

  • Mukobene. The drug also contains acetylcysteine. Available in the form of effervescent tablets of 100, 200 and 600 mg. Recommended for adults and children over 6 years old. Contraindicated for gastric ulcers.
  • Fluimucil. The drug also contains acetylcysteine and is available in the form of effervescent tablets for dissolution. Fluimucil is recommended for various diseases of the respiratory tract, sinusitis, sinusitis, purulent otitis, as well as for removing mucus from the bronchi after operations. Not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
  • N-acetylcysteine. The drug based on acetylcysteine is available in powder form for dissolution. The drug is contraindicated during lactation and pregnancy, as well as in children under 6 years of age, with renal failure. Treatment of newborns with the drug is possible only for health reasons.
  • Exomyuk. The main active ingredient is acetylcysteine. The drug has many dosage forms: powder for the preparation of solution, suspension, syrup, solution for intravenous and intramuscular injections. Approved for the treatment of children over 2 years of age.
  • Ambroxol. An effective mucolytic agent based on ambroxol. Available in the form of tablets, ampoules, syrup. Allowed for children over 2 years old - in syrup and over 6 years old - in tablets.

When choosing a drug, you must consult a doctor, since any analogue may have side effects and contraindications, and also has age restrictions.

For dry cough, ACC tablets are really the best remedy for me. They act gently, as if imperceptibly, but relief is felt within 20 minutes. They may not be the cheapest, but 1 package was enough for 3 colds.

For bronchial asthma and obstructive bronchitis, acetylcysteine should be prescribed with caution under systematic monitoring of bronchial patency.

Severe allergic reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome have been very rarely reported with the use of acetylcysteine. If changes in the skin and mucous membranes occur, the patient should immediately stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.

If side effects develop, you should stop taking the drug.

ACC (in the form of granules for the preparation of solution for oral administration / orange / 100 mg and 200 mg) 100 mg corresponds to 0.24 XE, 200 mg - 0.23 XE.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

There is no information on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

With the simultaneous use of acetylcysteine and antitussives, dangerous mucus stagnation may occur due to suppression of the cough reflex (use the combination with caution).

When taking ACC with vasodilators and nitroglycerin simultaneously, the vasodilator effect may be enhanced.

There is a synergism between acetylcysteine and bronchodilators.

ACC is pharmaceutically incompatible with antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, erythromycin, tetracycline and amphotericin B) and proteolytic enzymes.

Acetylcysteine reduces the absorption of cephalosporins, penicillins and tetracycline, so they should be taken orally no earlier than 2 hours after taking acetylcysteine.

When acetylcysteine comes into contact with metals and rubber, sulfides with a characteristic odor are formed.

ACC for cough: indications for its use and therapeutic effect

ACC is an effective antitussive drug prescribed for the treatment of colds, bronchitis, accumulation of viscous sputum, asthma, sinusitis, etc.

The medicine has a rapid therapeutic effect, and the drug can be used to treat children, but only in the form of syrup.

The composition of ACC for cough includes the active substance acetylcysteine and auxiliary components. Acetylcysteine is a very active and effective substance that exhibits its biological activity against any type of sputum: purulent and mucous.

The cough medicine ACC has an effective effect, and can have a triple effect on the human body at once:

  • Antioxidant. Free radicals are bound, and thereby their negative and destructive effect on the cells of the mucous membrane is inhibited.
  • Mucolytic. The substance included in the drug thins sputum.
  • Anti-inflammatory. The drug is very effective not only in treating the symptoms of the disease, but also helps prevent possible further complications in the form of inflammation of the respiratory tract.

ACC, as a cough medicine, has the following therapeutic effect:

  • Helps to quickly and effectively liquefy accumulated mucus, which allows you to successfully get rid of cough.
  • The product is able to fight infections of a purulent, mucous, purulent-mucosal nature, as well as respiratory tract infections caused by viruses and bacteria.
  • The drug can be combined with different antibiotics (as prescribed by a doctor) and this enhances the therapeutic effect of both drugs.
  • High degree of safety of the drug, a small number of side effects and contraindications.

Many mucolytic drugs cannot fight sputum and pus so effectively, which is very important if you have to treat bacterial infections that produce very viscous sputum full of purulent discharge.

For treatment, it is very important to clear the respiratory tract of such a mass of pus as quickly as possible, so that the infection does not spread further along the respiratory tract and the development of complications does not begin.

The main indications for use are:

  • acute or chronic sinusitis;
  • respiratory disease;
  • acute and chronic, as well as obstructive bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • tracheitis;
  • lung abscess;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • Otitis media

There are also some contraindications, in the presence of which you should not use the ACC drug:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • stomach ulcer;
  • bleeding in the lungs;
  • pregnancy and lactation period.

Doctors use the medicine very carefully for histamine intolerance, varicose veins, and problems with organs such as the kidneys and liver.

Patients with such diseases should take the drug only as prescribed by the doctor. Side effects are rare, but still occur in medical practice; as a rule, they manifest themselves in the form of allergies, headaches, nausea and vomiting, and shortness of breath.

If you use a similar remedy to relieve a child’s cough in tablet (effervescent) form, then the main contraindications are age, namely up to 2 years. The medicine in the form of granules for dissolution in water is prohibited for use by a child under 6 years of age. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should refrain from using the drug and replace ACC with other cough suppressants. The cost of the medicine starts from 130 rubles. and you can purchase it at any pharmacy chain without a prescription.

Cheaper analogues of ACC:

  • Asibrox.
  • Atsestad.
  • Acetal.
  • Abrol.
  • Ambrolhexal.
  • Bromhexine.

ACC tablets: how to use and in what quantity

ACC tablets are prescribed for the treatment of viral and infectious diseases of the respiratory tract:

  • Children over 14 years of age and adults - 200 mg twice a day.
  • Children from 6 to 14 years old, three times a day, 1 tablet (100), 2 tablets (200).
  • Children from 2 to 5 years old - twice a day, 1 tablet.

When treating cystic fibrosis in children (from 6 years old), 2 tablets (100) or 1 tablet (200) per day are prescribed. Children under 6 years old - 1 tablet 4 times a day. When treating a cold, the course of treatment with this remedy should be limited to one week. If bronchitis is being treated, especially acute and chronic forms, the course of treatment is usually extended by the doctor.

The medicine is taken after meals, ACC effervescent tablets must be dissolved in a small amount of plain water, and the effervescent solution should be drunk completely immediately. Dissolution of the powder occurs quickly, as each granule begins to quickly interact with water.

ACC syrup: instructions for use and dosage

The drug is also produced in another form - in the form of syrup, which has a pleasant taste and aroma, which allows it to be used in the treatment of childhood diseases. The medicine kit includes a glass bottle with medicine and a measuring cup, which allows you to simply and conveniently measure the required dose of syrup.

About the drug ACC syrup, the instructions describe that the product provides treatment as effective as the tablet form.

  • For children over 6 years old and adults, it is recommended to take 200 ml twice (three times) a day.
  • For children aged 2 to 6 years, the dose is 200 mg twice a day or 100 mg three times a day.
  • The smallest, under the age of 2 years, can be given only 100 mg, twice a day.

pharmachologic effect

Wikipedia indicates that the substance acetylcysteine is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine. It produces a mucolytic effect, under its influence the process of sputum discharge is facilitated, since the substance directly affects the rheological properties of sputum. Its influence is associated with the ability to break disulfide bonds of mucopolysaccharide chains, resulting in depolymerization of sputum mucoproteins. As a result, the viscosity of sputum decreases.

The drug is also active if the patient has purulent sputum.

The abstract also contains information that ACC provides an antioxidant effect associated with the ability of reactive sulfhydryl groups to neutralize oxidative radicals by binding to them. In view of this, the protection of cells from oxidation, which often occurs during inflammatory reactions, increases.

Acetylcysteine also activates glutathione, which is an important part of the antioxidant system and chemical detoxification of the body.

If ACC is used for the purpose of prevention, the severity and frequency of exacerbations in people suffering from cystic fibrosis and chronic bronchitis is noticeably reduced.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

There is a high level of absorption of the drug. Metabolism occurs in the liver, with the formation of an active metabolite - cysteine, also cystine, diacetylcysteine, mixed disulfides.

When taken orally, the bioavailability level is 10% (as there is a pronounced first-pass effect through the liver). The maximum concentration in plasma is observed after 1-3 hours. 50% bound to blood proteins.

Excreted in urine in the form of inactive metabolites. The half-life is 1 hour; if the patient has impaired liver function, it can be extended to 8 hours.

Penetrates through the placenta, there is no data on penetration through the BBB.

ACC - reviews

I suffered from cough for a long time. I can’t say that he was dry, but the phlegm still didn’t come out. I decided to go to the hospital and the doctor advised me to try ACC Long in effervescent tablets. I took the course as stated in the instructions for the medicine - 5 days. The cough has not gone away at all, but breathing has become much easier, and phlegm is already coming out of the bronchi.

Anastasia, 32 years old

At the beginning of treatment for a wet, persistent cough, a friend advised me to try ACC powder. When I came to the pharmacy, at first I was confused because of the price of the medicine. It cost somewhere around 130 rubles, which is very strange and inexpensive compared to its analogues. I decided to try it anyway and was not mistaken, the cold went away in 3 days, and my breathing returned to normal.
