A remedy for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis and rhinitis - relieves itching, burning, swelling and hyperemia.
Tetrizoline
Tetrizoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist, sympathomimetic, and anticongestant.
Tetrizoline, when applied topically, causes a vasoconstrictor effect that develops within a few minutes and persists for a long time.
Tetrizoline is used conjunctivally and intranasally - it reduces swelling and hyperemia, burning sensation, irritation, itching, soreness of the mucous membrane, lacrimation and runny nose.
The effect develops a few minutes after instillation and lasts 4-8 hours. The effect develops without secondary reactive hyperemia, has no toxic effect and has virtually no effect on eye tissue. When applied topically, Tetrizoline is practically not absorbed.
Indications:
Directions for use and dosage:
Individual, depending on the indications and the dosage form used.
To use eye drops, instill 1-2 drops into each eye 2-3 times a day into the lower conjunctival sac. The maximum duration of continuous use is no more than 4 days. When wearing contact lenses, they are removed before instillation of the drug and installed after 15 minutes.
For instillation into the nose, a single dose for adults and children over 6 years of age is 2-4 drops in each nasal passage; Children aged 2 to 6 years are prescribed a 0.05% solution of drops, a single drop in each nasal passage. Nasal drops should be used at intervals of at least 3 hours.
Symptoms: pupil dilation, nausea, cyanosis, fever, convulsions, tachycardia, arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, arterial hypertension, pulmonary edema, impaired respiratory function and mental activity.
Symptoms usually go away on their own. If necessary, use activated charcoal, gastric lavage, oxygen inhalation, antipyretics and anticonvulsants; to reduce blood pressure, 5 ml of phentolamine in saline solution or 100 mg is slowly administered intravenously.
Contraindications:
Children under 6 years of age are contraindicated in 0.1% nasal drops.
From the organ of vision: dilated pupils (mydriasis), increased intraocular pressure, reactive hyperemia.
When using drops in the nose, a burning and tingling sensation in the nose, sneezing, and dryness of the nasal cavity may occur. With prolonged use or exceeding the dose, secondary edema of the nasal mucosa may develop.
Side effects associated with the systemic effect of the drug: arterial hypertension, cardiac dysfunction, tachycardia, hyperglycemia, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbance, drowsiness, weakness, tremor, nausea.
Allergic reactions are possible.
Special instructions and precautions:
Strictly follow the dosage regimen.
Despite the low level of systemic absorption, Tetrizoline should be used with caution in patients with arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, during treatment with antidepressants, during pregnancy, and lactation.
With long-term use of Tetrizoline in high doses or accidental ingestion, toxic effects may develop.
Continuous use of eye drops for more than 4 days is not recommended. If symptoms persist or become more severe within 4 days of regular use of Tetrizoline, consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary. Direct contact with soft contact lenses should be avoided due to possible disruption of their transparency. When driving a car or operating machinery, the possibility of blurred vision should be taken into account.
The contents of an open bottle should be used within a maximum of 4 weeks.
Tetrizoline is incompatible with MAO inhibitors.
At a temperature not exceeding 30 C.
The expiration date is indicated on the packaging.
Dispensed from pharmacies - without a doctor's prescription.

Tetrizoline*
PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES ARE PRESCRIBED TO THE PATIENT ONLY BY A DOCTOR. THIS INSTRUCTION IS FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS ONLY.
Description of the active substance Tetrizoline/Tetryzoline.
Formula: C13H16N2, chemical name: 4,5-Dihydro-2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthalenyl)-1H-imidazole (as hydrochloride).
Pharmacological group: vegetotropic agents/adrenomimetic agents/Alpha-adrenomimetics; organotropic drugs/ophthalmic drugs; organotropic agents/respiratory agents/anticongestants.
Pharmacological action: anticongestive, vasoconstrictor.
Pharmacological properties
Tetrizoline has a stimulating effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors. When used topically in the form of eye drops, it reduces swelling of the conjunctiva, sensations of irritation, burning, soreness, itching of the mucous membrane of the eyes, and reduces lacrimation. When applied topically in the form of nasal drops, it narrows the small arterioles of the nasal passages, reduces secretion and reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa. The effects of tetrizoline develop within a few minutes and last 4 – 8 hours. When used topically, tetrizoline is almost not absorbed.
Indications
Nasal drops: swelling of the nasal mucosa in people who suffer from rhinitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, hay fever; if it is necessary to carry out therapeutic and diagnostic measures to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Eye drops: swelling of the conjunctiva, irritation of the conjunctiva (when exposed to physical and chemical factors, including dust, smoke, chlorinated water, cosmetics, bright light, contact lenses), secondary hyperemia in allergic eye diseases, catarrhal conjunctivitis.
Method of administration of tetrizoline and dose
Intranasally, patients over 6 years old - 0.1% solution, 2-4 drops, children 2-6 years old - 0.05% solution, 2-3 drops in each nasal passage with an interval of at least 3 hours. Tetrizoline should not be used for more than 3 to 5 days (except on doctor's recommendations). Re-use is possible only after a break of several days.
Conjunctivally, 2 - 3 times a day, 1 - 2 drops in each eye in the lower conjunctival sac. Do not use continuously for more than 4 days without consulting an ophthalmologist. If there is no improvement within 2 days, then therapy should be discontinued.
The dosage regimen should be strictly observed. Overdose and prolonged use should be avoided. With prolonged use there is a risk of developing toxic effects. The possibility of overdose, which is caused by systemic absorption of tetrizoline, is increased in young children (especially if accidentally swallowed). Tetrizoline eye drops should only be used for mild eye irritation. If hyperemia and irritation of the conjunctiva are associated with an infectious process, chemical injury to the cornea, or the presence of a foreign body, then consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary. If within 2 days after starting to use eye drops, the symptoms of the disease become more pronounced, persist, or an adverse reaction develops, then it is necessary to discontinue the drug and consult an ophthalmologist. If you develop a headache, intense pain in the eyes, blurred vision, redness of the eyes, sudden appearance of floating spots in front of the eyes, double vision or pain when exposed to light, you should immediately consult a doctor. Contact lenses are removed before instillation of the drug and reinstalled 15 minutes after it. Due to the possible deterioration of the clarity of soft contact lenses, direct contact of eye drops with them should be avoided. During therapy, care should be taken when working with machinery and driving a car (after using eye drops, blurred vision and pupil dilation may occur).
Contraindications for use
Hypersensitivity; nasal drops: up to 2 years of age (for a 0.05% solution), up to 6 years (for a 0.1% solution), dry rhinitis; eye drops: age up to 2 years, severe eye pathology (dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, epithelial endothelial dystrophy of the cornea).
Restrictions on use
Severe pathology of the circulatory system (including arrhythmia, coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension, cardiac aneurysm), diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, period of therapy with drugs that increase blood pressure, including monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Due to the risk of systemic adverse reactions, the use of tetrizoline during pregnancy and breastfeeding is possible only after careful comparison of the expected benefit to the mother and the possible risk to the child or fetus. It is not known whether tetrizoline is excreted in breast milk. There are no reproductive studies in animals.
Side effects of tetrizoline
Organ of vision: increased intraocular pressure, dilated pupils, reactive hyperemia, burning sensation;
nervous system: headache, drowsiness, tremor, weakness, sleep disturbance, dizziness;
digestive system: nausea;
cardiovascular system: cardiac dysfunction, palpitations, arterial hypertension;
endocrine system: hyperglycemia;
respiratory system: when using drops in the nose - a tingling and burning sensation in the nose, dryness of the nasal cavity, sneezing; if the dose is exceeded or prolonged use - the development of secondary edema and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa;
other: allergic reactions.
Interaction of tetrizoline with other substances
Tetrizoline is incompatible with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (risk of developing hypertension).
Overdose
In case of an overdose of tetrizoline, pupil dilation, cyanosis, nausea, fever, tachycardia/bradycardia, convulsions, arterial hypertension, shock-like syndrome with bradycardia and hypotension, and dizziness develop. In children, an overdose can manifest itself as depression of the central nervous system, which is accompanied by excessive sweating, drowsiness, severe hypotension, even shock. Necessary: taking activated carbon, gastric lavage, symptomatic treatment (use of anticonvulsants, antipyretics, oxygen inhalation); There is no specific antidote.

VizOptic eye drops: reviews of the drug
For conjunctivitis, VizOptic drops were prescribed. I liked it very much. The effect after use really came quickly, the pain went away. The discharge began to stop in the evening. By the next morning there was nothing left of the conjunctivitis. I would like to note that I had allergic conjunctivitis, which, as it turned out, was an allergy to the new mascara.
I often suffer from dry eyes. As a result, itching, burning, and discomfort when blinking appear. I tried many drops, some worked, but turned out to be unreasonably expensive. These relieve symptoms well, and the price is quite decent. It happens to me that my eyes seem to swell, but after instillation my eyes look great. In general, I myself am an allergy sufferer. All my symptoms are caused either by incorrectly selected cosmetics or by dust. Good drops, they do their job perfectly. It's good that you can buy it without a prescription.
Dry eye syndrome is familiar to many computer owners; of course, it can occur due to many factors. But it is the computer that is the trouble for our eyes. I’m no exception; by evening my eyes seem to crumble into small pieces. The burning and itching does not go away. After consulting with an ophthalmologist, I purchased VizOptic drops. Unfortunately, they didn't help me at all. The discomfort did not go away after use. There are also side effects. And the price is not the lowest. I won't advise.
After buying a new mascara, an allergy appeared, I thought it would itch and go away on its own. But it was not there. I had to go to the doctor with red eyes, he prescribed VizOptic. After using it, the symptoms went away, but after a few days everything came back again. I don’t know whether I have unsolvable problems, or whether the remedy is simply weak. After changing to another drug, everything returned to normal.
Good drops help me cope with the redness of my eyes that occurs after a hard day or working at the computer. There are cheaper drops, but there are also expensive analogues. Therefore, the price, I think, is average. Unfortunately, they do not have any therapeutic effect, they only relieve symptoms. I had no allergic reactions or side effects.
I’ve been familiar with the drops for a long time, they perfectly tidy up my eyes. They act quickly and relieve symptoms well. The thing is that I like to sit at the computer late into the night, and in the morning my eyes become red from lack of sleep. So you have to mask it with drops. It is enough to drop it once and the redness will decrease. The price is affordable, the result is good, no allergic reactions were noticed.
For the last few years I have been wearing glasses due to vision problems. I thought that the redness and fatigue due to the fact that the glasses were not anti-glare and the sun were the result of my problems. Then I realized that this was not connected at all. Because I purchased other glasses with anti-glare effect. I can’t say that I spend a lot of time at the computer or TV. VizOptic drops are a good analogue to the expensive Visin, but they work the same way. Redness and fatigue go away very quickly. After just one application the result is visible. You can buy it without a doctor’s prescription; there have never been any reactions to the drug. The price is affordable.

Due to the nature of my work, I spend a lot of time in front of a computer monitor. Therefore, the eyes, of course, get tired. A year ago I asked the pharmacy for an inexpensive analogue of Visina. I was offered Visoptik. These eye drops cost 2, or even 3 times less. I can't say that these eye drops work better than the expensive ones. But not worse, that's for sure. Therefore, I don’t see any point in overpaying.
You know, I also think that there is no point in paying much more for the same effect. Although someone may have a different opinion on this matter. When my husband started working as a welder, VizOptic drops helped us a lot. After the first day of work, his eyes were very inflamed. And friends advised me to use these drops. I was simply amazed at such a quick result. In the morning everything was gone. Well, very good drops.
It’s simply impossible to disagree; it’s actually a wonderful drug. The fact is that I have an eternal problem: constantly red eyes. I react to both the wind and the bright rays of the sun; my eyes quickly get tired even when watching TV. I used to use Vizin, but recently it has become very expensive, so I decided to try VizOptic and, you know, I was not disappointed. The quality of the drops is excellent. the redness goes away very quickly. and lasts them for a long time. In general, I am one hundred percent satisfied with the quality and price.

At the first signs of redness and irritation of the eyes, the drug “Visoptic” is recommended. But in cases of infection, foreign body entry, injury from chemicals, cosmetics, this medicine should not be used without consulting a doctor.
City residents often suffer from dry eye syndrome for the following reasons:
- spend many hours at the computer;
- exposed to air conditioning or fans;
- wear contact lenses;
- smoke often.
Visoptik drops help relieve the syndrome in the initial stages; in more complex cases, it is necessary to begin treatment with drugs prescribed by specialists. They are also used in the complex treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.
Contraindications to the use of the drug
Visoptic drops should not be used if the patient has the following diseases:
- glaucoma;
- acute heart failure;
- allergic reactions to the components of the drug;
- high blood pressure;
- thyroid diseases;

The daily dose of eye drops is: no more than 3 times daily, instill up to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the eyes. Do not use eye drops that are below room temperature.
Accidental overdose
An overdose occurs if the medicine is accidentally ingested. In cases where a child has taken the medicine, the following occurs: drowsiness, sweating, severe hypotension, and sometimes shock may occur. In adults, an overdose can cause: arrhythmia, nausea, dilated pupils, fever, pulmonary edema.
At the initial signs of an overdose, first aid is provided - they take activated carbon, oxygen inhalations, and wash out the stomach. At elevated temperatures, take medications that reduce fever, as well as against high blood pressure.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, a doctor prescribes Visoptik drops only in cases of extreme necessity. Users of these eye drops claim that the medicine relieves all unpleasant symptoms within a short time; many call them lifesavers for tired eyes.
Equivalent analogues
When a person has to work at a computer for a long time, dry eyes appear, a syndrome that is accompanied by unpleasant sensations and itching. These symptoms can be removed by using decoctions of chamomile and thyme and drops containing tetrizoline analogues.
Equivalent analogues of Visoptik eye drops are:
They are as effective in treatment as Vizoptik, the only difference is the price of the drugs in pharmacies.
Use of Tetrizoline eye drops
For painful eye symptoms, you can use Tetrizoline eye drops, which are indicated for swelling and irritation of the conjunctiva, allergies, and catarrhal conjunctivitis. Irritations can be characterized by chemical and physical derivatives - smoke, dust, water with bleach, low-quality cosmetics, contact lenses.
If after 4 days of continuous use of Tetrizoline (2-3 times daily, 1-2 drops), no relief is observed, the drug should be discontinued and consult a specialist.
If symptoms worsen on the 3rd day after starting to use the drops, further treatment with the drug is not recommended. Tetrizoline should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

Tetrizoline hydrochloride is easily soluble in water and alcohol, very slightly soluble in chloroform, and practically soluble in ether. The pH of a 1% aqueous solution is 5.0–6.5. Molecular weight 236.75.
Pharmacology
Stimulates alpha adrenergic receptors. When applied topically in the form of eye drops, it reduces swelling of the conjunctiva, burning sensation, irritation, itching, soreness of the mucous membrane of the eyes, and lacrimation.
When used in the form of nasal drops, it causes a narrowing of the small arterioles of the nasal passages, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and reduces secretion.
When applied topically, it is practically not absorbed. The effect develops within a few minutes and lasts 4–8 hours.
Application
Swelling of the conjunctiva, secondary hyperemia in allergic eye diseases, irritation of the conjunctiva (as a result of exposure to chemical and physical factors, including smoke, dust, chlorinated water, bright light, cosmetics, contact lenses), catarrhal conjunctivitis.
Swelling of the nasal mucosa in patients suffering from rhinitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, hay fever, as well as to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa if diagnostic and therapeutic measures are necessary.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; eye drops: severe eye diseases (glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, epithelial endothelial corneal dystrophy), children under 2 years of age; nasal drops: dry rhinitis, children up to 2 years of age (0.05% solution), up to 6 years of age (0.1% solution).
Restrictions on use
Severe cardiovascular diseases (including ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia, cardiac aneurysm, arterial hypertension), hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, pheochromocytoma, period of treatment with drugs that increase blood pressure, incl. MAO inhibitors.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Due to the likelihood of systemic side effects, use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is possible only after careful comparison of the possible benefits to the mother and the risk to the fetus or child. No reproductive studies have been conducted in animals. It is not known whether tetrizoline is excreted into breast milk.
Side effects

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors (possible development of hypertension).
Overdose
Symptoms: pupil dilation, nausea, cyanosis, fever, convulsions, tachycardia/bradycardia, arterial hypertension, dizziness, shock-like syndrome with hypotension and bradycardia. Overdose in children can manifest as depression of the central nervous system, accompanied by drowsiness, excessive sweating, severe hypotension, even shock.
Treatment: administration of activated carbon, gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy (oxygen inhalation, use of antipyretics, anticonvulsants). A specific antidote is unknown.
Directions for use and doses
Conjunctivally, in each eye in the lower conjunctival sac - 1-2 drops 2-3 times a day. Without consulting an ophthalmologist, it should not be used continuously for more than 4 days. If improvement does not occur within 48 hours, treatment should be stopped.
Intranasally, adults and children over 6 years old - 2-4 drops of 0.1% solution, children 2-6 years old - 2-3 drops of 0.05% solution in each nasal passage with an interval of at least 3 hours. Do not use more than 3–5 days (except for doctor's recommendations). Re-appointment is possible only after a few days.
Precautionary measures
The dosage regimen must be strictly observed. Long-term use and overdose should be avoided. With prolonged use, toxic effects may develop. The risk of overdose due to systemic absorption of the drug is high in newborns and small children (especially if accidentally swallowed).
Tetrizoline in the form of eye drops is advisable to use only for mild eye irritation. If irritation and hyperemia of the conjunctiva are associated with an infectious disease, the presence of a foreign body or chemical injury to the cornea, consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary.
If within 48 hours after starting the use of eye drops, the symptoms of the disease persist/become more pronounced or a side effect appears, you should stop using the drug and consult an ophthalmologist. If you experience intense eye pain, headache, blurred vision, sudden appearance of floaters in front of your eyes, red eyes, pain when exposed to light, or double vision, you should immediately consult a doctor.
When wearing contact lenses, they are removed before instillation of the drug and reinstalled 15 minutes after it. Direct contact of eye drops with soft contact lenses should be avoided due to possible disruption of their transparency.
During the treatment period, care must be taken when driving a car and operating machinery (after using eye drops, the pupil may dilate and blurred vision may occur).
Year of last adjustment
Interactions with other active ingredients
Tetrizoline is incompatible with halothane (ventricular fibrillation is possible).
Tetrizoline is incompatible with maprotiline (a hypertensive crisis may develop).

Tetrizoline: instructions for use
Almost every mother encounters a runny nose in children regularly. Having an effective remedy for this uncomfortable symptom on hand is every woman’s dream. Let's consider the features of the use of Tetrizoline hydrochloride, which is considered one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for rhinitis and more.
Pharmacological properties
Tetrizoline hydrochloride has two main pharmacological actions:
- Vasoconstrictor.
- Anticongestive (relieves swelling of the mucous membrane).
Leads to stimulation of alpha adrenergic receptors. If used topically in the form of eye drops, it helps reduce swelling of the conjunctiva and reduce burning and itching sensations. It also relieves soreness in the eye mucosa and stops lacrimation.
When using the drug in the form of drops for the nasal cavity, there is a spasm of small blood vessels, a decrease in swelling of the nasal mucosa and a decrease in mucus secretion. If Tetrizoline hydrochloride is administered topically, there is virtually no systemic absorption.
It only takes a few minutes for the therapeutic effect to develop. The duration of pharmacological action lasts for 4-8 hours.
Indications
Today, Tetrizoline hydrochloride is successfully used in ophthalmological and otolaryngological practice. For what pathological conditions can this drug be recommended:
- Runny nose.
- Swelling of the nasal mucosa in children and adults, which can be observed with rhinitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, etc.
