Suprastin is a histamine H1 receptor blocker, an ethylenediamine derivative. Prevents the development and facilitates the course of allergic reactions. It has a moderate sedative and pronounced antipruritic effect. It has an antiemetic effect, peripheral anticholinergic activity, and moderate antispasmodic properties.
The therapeutic effect develops within minutes after oral administration, reaches a maximum within the first hour after administration and lasts at least 3-6 hours.
After oral administration, chloropyramine hydrochloride is quickly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Intensively metabolized in the liver. It is excreted primarily in the urine in the form of metabolites.
In children, drug elimination occurs faster than in adults.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
There have been no adequate and well-controlled studies of the use of antihistamines during pregnancy. Therefore, the use of the drug in pregnant women (especially in the 1st trimester and the last month of pregnancy) is possible only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.
If it is necessary to use the drug during lactation, breastfeeding should be suspended.
The drug should be used with extreme caution in elderly and debilitated patients, because Such patients are more likely to experience side effects (dizziness, drowsiness).

Suprastin's analogs
The drug is very popular in our country, and there are reasons for this - it has a good effect, time-tested and at the same time quite safe (prescribed even to small children). Is there a worthy replacement for it?
The main active ingredient of Suprastin is chloropyramine.
If you need an injection solution, it can often be found in pharmacies under the brand name “Chloropyramine”, at a price lower than the “original”.
Chloropyramine tablets from other manufacturers are sold, although not often. At the time of writing, only 25% of pharmacies had such a product in their assortment. And their cost is approximately two times lower than Suprastin. There are no more complete analogues.
Remember that low price does not mean good quality. Large manufacturers, as a rule, care about their reputation and produce guaranteed quality products, albeit at a higher price.
There are a large number of tablets with a similar effect - antihistamines, here is a list with approximate prices*:
Tablets may differ in contraindications and side effects. Please read the instructions before choosing a replacement!
* - average price among several sellers at the time of monitoring, is not a public offer.

The drug "Suprastin": analogues. What to choose?
Many people suffer from allergies. Some suffer all year round, while others experience only temporary discomfort when they approach a source that causes unpleasant reactions in them. There are several drugs that can relieve allergic reactions and make life easier. One of them is the drug “Suprastin”. Its analogues are the drugs “Tavegil”, “Fenistil” and others. So, which is better to choose?
Different generations
There are several generations of anti-allergy drugs that differ significantly from each other. The first generation includes potent drugs, which do not act for long and have a severe effect on the body. This is the most popular remedy - “Suprastin”. Its analogues from the same series are the drugs “Tavegil” and “Diphenhydramine”. The second generation includes slower-acting agents. Some medications have side effects. The most popular product from this line was the drug “Fenistil”. The third generation is a little weaker, but these are the easiest and safest drugs in the entire series of anti-allergy drugs. This, in particular, is the drug Zyrtec, which helps in the earliest phase of an allergic reaction.
The drug "Suprastin"
One of the most popular and effective remedies with an antihistamine effect. Helps with swelling and itching, most often used in hospitals when emergency medical assistance is needed. It stops the release of serotonin and histamine, has a calming, almost hypnotic effect, and is a good antispasmodic. The medicine is produced in Hungary and is available in the form of tablets and ampoules. The drug "Suprastin" (its analogues have the same properties) begins to act on average half an hour after entering the body and works for about six hours. True, after seven days, addiction to the drug occurs. This remedy is prescribed for urticaria, hay fever, anaphylactic shock, in the treatment of bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, eczema, dermatitis and neurodermatitis, for allergies to food, medications and insect bites. It is also used in combination with other medications during the treatment of flu and colds.
Side effects and contraindications
The drug is not indicated for asthma attacks, exacerbation of ulcers, urinary retention, glaucoma, and also together with MAO inhibitors, during pregnancy and lactation. It should not be given to children under one month old and people intolerant to this medicine. Side effects include severe drowsiness, weakness, vomiting, dizziness, dry mouth, and blood pressure problems. Very carefully, the drug "Suprastin" (including its analogues) is given to elderly patients, people with heart, liver, prostate diseases, and those who drive a car or operate any machinery. Under no circumstances should this medicine be mixed with alcoholic beverages.
Means "Tavegil"
When figuring out which is better, Suprastin or Tavegil, you need to consider the following: these are drugs of the same series and of the same generation, and are similar in many ways. The latter is available in tablets and also has a powerful antihistamine and antipruritic effect. It reduces the permeability of capillaries and blood vessels, severe swelling, tumors, and calms (but does not put you to sleep like the drug "Suprastin"). Valid for up to twelve hours. You can drink it for twenty days without fear of addiction. Prescribed for urticaria, fever, dermatoses, eczema, allergies to bites and medications.
Contraindications and special points
The drug "Tavegil" is produced in Italy. It is contraindicated if you are sensitive to it, during pregnancy, lactation, or with lung diseases. It should not be given to children under six years of age. Use with caution for people with diseases of the stomach, bladder, prostate gland, heart and blood vessels, with increased intraocular pressure. In addition, Tavegil causes severe fatigue, weakness, lethargy, drowsiness, dizziness, tremors, problems with coordination of movements, vomiting, constipation, difficulty urinating, blood pressure, and rash. The drug "Tavegil" is much more toxic and heavier than the drug "Suprastin". It has a strong negative effect on kidneys and liver function.
The drug "Fenistil"
This medicine is available in the form of capsules, drops and gel. It is very effective in preventing the development of allergies, reduces swelling that has already formed, and relieves itching. The action occurs within half an hour after taking it for twelve hours, but the gel is felt within a couple of minutes. The drug "Fenistil" is prescribed for urticaria, edema, fever, rhinitis, itchy skin, measles, smallpox and rubella, insect bites, dermatoses, burns, for prevention. When choosing what to buy, the medicine "Fenistil" or "Suprastin", you must first consult a doctor. These are drugs of varying strength and have different indications. When taken, Fenistil may cause mild drowsiness, headaches, nausea, dizziness, rash, spasms, swelling, and breathing problems.

Suprastin and its analogues: can and should it be replaced?
Every year the number of people susceptible to allergies is growing. The need for special antihistamines is increasing. One of the most famous and widespread antiallergic drugs is Suprastin. Its high efficiency and fairly low price ensure high demand. Most people prefer it as a time-tested drug. But are there other more modern analogues of Suprastin? What can replace this remedy?
Replacing Suprastin: why and why?
Suprastin is a first generation antihistamine produced in Hungary. The main active ingredient is chloropyramine.
Indications for use are various forms of allergies: urticaria, itching, seasonal rhinitis, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, eczema, Quincke's edema, food allergy or allergy from insect bites. In addition to its main use, it is often used for general relief of the patient’s condition.
The sedative property of Suprastin is its main disadvantage - it actively affects the central nervous system and can cause side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and general fatigue. Thus, driving a car or active work is sometimes simply impossible. Unpleasant side reactions make you want to learn more about Suprastin and its analogues.
So, what can replace Suprastin? The main analogs of Suprastin come in tablets, but some of them are also available in the form of syrup and special solutions. Below is a list of possible remedies.
Diazolin
Diazolin is a cheap and popular analogue of Suprastin, which has an antiallergic effect and reduces swelling of the mucous membranes. It does not have a strong hypnotic effect, penetrating into the central nervous system only slightly. It has mild anesthetic properties. Used for the combined treatment of bronchial asthma. Unlike its predecessor, it does not help in the treatment of viral diseases. It is not a direct analogue of Suprastin and contains a different active ingredient.
Main active ingredient: mebhydrolin.
Indications for use:
- may lead to disturbances in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract;
- from the central nervous system may cause: dizziness, decreased reaction speed, drowsiness or hyperactivity;
- Often the use is accompanied by dry mouth.
Contraindicated for children under 3 years of age, people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and women during pregnancy and lactation.
The price of the drug varies from 55–80 rubles.
Chloropyramine
Chloropyramine is an inexpensive drug that blocks histamine receptors. It has sedative properties and a mild antispasmodic effect. The effect occurs after 1–2 hours, the duration of the effect is 4–6 hours. In small doses, it can be used in children from 1 month.
Main active substance: chloropyramine.
- dermatological diseases: eczema, dermatoses, contact dermatitis, itchy skin;
- allergic reactions: seasonal allergies, hay fever, conjunctivitis, urticaria.
Since chloropyramine is a direct analogue of Suprastin, it has the same side effects:
- drowsiness;
- dizziness;
- dry mouth;
- tachycardia;
- difficulty urinating.
Release form: tablets and solution for injection.
Subrestin
Subrestin is a sedative antihistamine. It has antiallergic, antiemetic and antispasmodic effects. Approved for use in children, in small dosages starting from 1 month.
Main active ingredient: chloropyramine.
Side effects and contraindications are the same as for Suprastin.
Approximate price: 115 rub.
Tavegil
Tavegil is an antiallergic drug, a modern competitor to Suprastin. Fights allergies without causing a calming effect. Reduces swelling, itching and has anesthetic properties. Can be prescribed to children from 6 years of age.
The main active substance of Tavegil: clemastine.
Indications for use:
- skin diseases: eczema, dermatosis, contact dermatitis;
- reactions to insect bites and medications;
- hay fever;
- anaphylactic shock;
- allergic swelling;
- serum sickness;
- prevention of allergic diseases.
- dry mouth;
- nausea, dizziness, headache;
- hearing and visual impairment;
- breathing problems;
- difficulty urinating;
- cardiopalmus.
Tablets and injections are available commercially. The cost of the drug depends on the packaging, for 10 tablets the approximate price is.
Loratadine
Loratadine belongs to the second generation of antihistamines. It has a rapid and prolonged effect, with no sedative effect. It has virtually no effect on the central nervous system. Adverse reactions are rare: dry mouth or vomiting. Can be used by children from 2 years of age. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with caution in case of liver failure.
Main active ingredient: loratadine.
Indications for use:
- allergic reactions of various origins;
- dermatological diseases: skin itching, eczema, dermatoses.
With enormous potential, this drug is cheaper than many other drugs: from 35–50 rubles.
Tsetrin
Cetrin is a second generation antihistamine. Reduces the severity of allergic reactions and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It does not affect the functioning of the central nervous system, but its effectiveness is lower than that of Suprastin. Cetrin is prescribed by a doctor as a prophylactic for the treatment of allergies. It can prevent the risk of developing allergic reactions. Suitable for children over 6 years old. Available in syrup and tablets.
Active ingredient: cetirizine.
Main indications for use:
- seasonal and year-round rhinitis;
- swelling;
- hives;
- skin allergic diseases.
The cost of packing tablets is 10 pcs. — 155–165 rub. syrup price.
The number of available products with a similar spectrum of action is quite large. A cheap or expensive analogue of Suprastin may have the same side effects, while obviously differing in price. Expensive drugs are not necessarily always good. And direct cheap analogues contain the same main component as Suprastin, so you shouldn’t be afraid of them. You need to choose, taking into account specific individual needs, body characteristics and doctor’s recommendations.

What are the analogues of suprastin?
Suprastin is a cheap medicine, but many allergy sufferers want to find anti-allergy medicines even cheaper. But the price of therapy is not the only reason for searching for analogues.
- Many patients are not satisfied with the chemical composition and side effects of the drug. The big disadvantage of Suprastin is its soporific effect on the body.
- The medication reduces the tone of the central nervous system, causing migraines, drowsiness, lethargy, and dizziness. With such side effects, it is impossible to engage in intellectual work, and driving a car is dangerous.
Diazolin or Suprastin – what to choose?
Diazolin is an inexpensive and high-quality analogue of Suprastin. This antiallergic medicine, which reduces swelling of the mucous membranes, has virtually no effect on the nervous system, and therefore does not have a soporific effect. May have a slight anesthetic effect. The drug is sold in the form of tablets and dragees. The active ingredient is mebhydrolin.
Diazolin is used to treat the following diseases:
The drug is often used in the complex therapy of bronchial asthma. When using the medication, the following side effects are observed:
- Disturbances in the functioning of the digestive tract;
- Dizziness;
- Drowsiness or, conversely, agitation;
- Slowing down reactions to external stimuli;
- Feeling of dryness in the mouth.
Loratadine or Suprastin – which is better to buy?
Loratadine is a second-generation antihistamine, faster-acting and more effective than Suprastin. It has a weak effect on the nervous system and does not have a soporific effect. The medicine is sold in the form of tablets for oral administration, effervescent tablets, and sweet syrup. The active ingredient is loratadine.
The medication is used to treat the following diseases:
Side effects in rare cases include vomiting and dry mouth. Loratadine is allowed to be taken by children over two years of age. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should not use the drug.
Cetrin or Suprastin - which is cheaper and more effective?
Cetrin is a second generation antihistamine. It significantly weakens the course of the allergic reaction and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Cetrin, unlike Suprastin, does not inhibit the functioning of the nervous system at all. The drug is sold in the form of drops, tablets and sweet syrup. The active substance is cetirizine.
Medicines are prescribed to treat the following diseases:
Tavegil or Suprastin - which is better to buy?
Tavegil is a worthy analogue of Suprastin, a highly effective antiallergic drug. It quickly extinguishes the allergic reaction, relieves swelling, reduces itching, has an anesthetic effect, but does not have a soporific effect. The medicine is sold in tablet form, as well as in the form of a solution for intravenous and intramuscular injections. The active substance is clemastine.
Tavegil is used to treat the following pathologies:
- Hay fever;
- Eczema;
- Dermatosis;
- Allergies of any origin;
- Edema;
- Anaphylactic shock;
- Consequences of insect attacks.
The drug can be taken by children from the age of six. When treated with Tavegil, the following side effects may occur:
- Dry mouth;
- Migraine, dizziness;
- Nausea;
- Difficulty breathing;
- Problems urinating;
- Tachycardia;
- Hearing impairment, distortion of visual perception.
A package with ten tablets costs 135–155 rubles, with twenty tablets – 175–200 rubles. Five ampoules will cost the buyer 200–220 rubles.
Suprastin or Zyrtec – what to buy?
Zyrtec is an antiallergic drug that does not produce a soporific effect if the dosage specified in the instructions is followed. The medication is sold in tablet and drop form. The active ingredient is cetirizine dihydrochloride.
The following diseases are treated with the drug:
- Allergic rhinitis;
- Conjunctivitis;
- Hives;
- Angioedema;
- Hay fever;
- Dermatosis.
Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under six years of age are not allowed to take the medicine. Also, the medication should not be used by people who have lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, lactase deficiency in the body, or those suffering from kidney diseases.
Zodak or Suprastin – what to choose?
Zirtek and Zodak are analogues in composition. The active component of these drugs is cetirizine dihydrochloride. Therefore, the effects of the medications are the same. Zyrtec is a Swiss drug, and Zodac is a Czech drug. Zodak is sold in tablet and drop forms. Tablets can be used by children from the age of six, drops - from the age of one. Zodak has a depressing effect on the nervous system, negatively affecting concentration and clarity of consciousness.
Unfortunately, the drug, unlike Suprastin, is not produced in the form of an injection solution, so it cannot be used in severe cases of allergies. Ten tablets cost 120–150 rubles, drops cost 200 rubles.
Fenistil or Suprastin?
Fenistil is a drug often used in pediatrics. The medicine is sold in the form of capsules, gel, drops. The drop form of the medication can be used to treat infants from one month of age. - Urticaria;
- Food and drug allergies;
- Angioedema;
- Eczema;
- Consequences of insect attacks;

Suprastin: instructions for use
Suprastin tablets represent a clinical and pharmacological group of drugs - H-histamine receptor blockers. They have an antiallergic therapeutic effect and are used to reduce the severity of allergic reactions.
Dosage form, composition
Suprastin tablets are white, round in shape and have a flat-cylindrical surface. The main active ingredient of the drug is chloropyramine, its content in one tablet is 25 mg. It also contains excipients, which include:
- Potato starch.
- Stearic acid.
- Lactose monohydrate.
- Sodium carboxymethyl starch.
- Gelatin.
- Talc.
Suprastin tablets are packaged in blister packs of 10 pieces. The cardboard pack contains 2 blisters with tablets, as well as instructions for use of the medicine.
Therapeutic effects, pharmacokinetics
The main active component of Suprastin tablets, chloropyramine, is a chemically modified derivative of the classic antiallergic compound pyribenzamine due to the addition of chlorine atoms. It blocks H-histamine receptors, due to which they become insensitive to the main mediator of a specific allergic reaction, histamine, produced by some cells in response to the entry of an allergen into the human body, subject to the presence of sensitization (hypersensitivity). This compound also partially blocks M-cholinergic receptors. Due to such physiological effects, several therapeutic actions are realized, namely antiallergic, antiemetic and moderate antispasmodic effects.
Indications for use
Medical indications for the use of Suprastin tablets are various manifestations of allergies in humans, which include:
