STREPSILS PLUS INSTRUCTIONS
Prices for STREPSILS PLUS
Lidocaine has a local anesthetic and anti-edematous effect. The drug contains two antiseptic components that fight infections that cause sore throat. Thanks to the lozenge format, the active substance is distributed more evenly in the tissues of the pharynx and lasts longer [13], which provides more opportunities for therapeutic effects.
Lidocaine is easily and quickly absorbed from the mucous membrane. The plasma half-life is approximately 2:00.
Metabolism occurs in the liver to form the active metabolite, monoethylglycerylxylidine, which is then hydrolyzed to various metabolites, including glycinexylidide. These metabolites enhance both the therapeutic and toxic effects of lidocaine. Less than 10% is excreted unchanged by the kidneys. Metabolites are also excreted in the urine. Due to the insignificant absorption of amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol into the blood, the drug is classified as a topical agent. Given this, the pharmacokinetic parameters of these components have not been studied.
Strepsils Plus lozenges are used in the symptomatic treatment of infections of the mouth and throat, including severe sore throat.
Strepsils Plus lozenges are used to treat adults and children over 12 years of age, usually 1 tablet is prescribed at intervals of 2-3 hours.
The maximum allowed number of lollipops is 8 per day. The duration of the course of treatment should not exceed 5 days.
The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course of treatment can be changed if necessary by the attending physician.
Immune system: hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reactions, allergic reactions, including rash, burning in the mouth or throat and swelling of the mouth and throat, urticaria, angioedema
From the skin and subcutaneous tissue: rash, itching.
From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, discomfort in the oral cavity, abdominal pain, stomatitis, dyspepsia, heartburn.
From the nervous system: dysgeusia.
Contraindications to the use of Strepsils Plus are: an allergic reaction to any of the components of the drug or other amide local anesthetic drugs.
Do not use in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose, sucrose-isomaltose malabsorption syndrome.
The safety of this medicine for use in pregnant women has not been established.
Therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug Strepsils Plus during pregnancy and lactation, unless the patient is under control.
No clinically significant interactions of the drug with drugs from other groups have been identified.
Overdose primarily causes excessive loss of sensation in the upper gastrointestinal tract and may result in symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort. In this case, you must stop using the drug. Treatment of a potentially toxic overdose should be symptomatic and supportive under medical supervision.
A significant overdose of lidocaine affects the nervous and cardiovascular systems and can also cause methemoglobinemia. Methemoglobinemia is treated with immediate administration of 1–4 mg/kg methylene blue intravenously.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Packaging: 8 lollipops in a blister, 2 blisters in a cardboard box.
1 lozenge Strepsils Plus contains lidocaine hydrochloride 10 mg amylmetacresol 0.6 mg 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol 1.2 mg
excipients: levomenthol, peppermint oil, star anise oil, tartaric acid, sodium saccharin, sucrose solution, glucose solution, yellow quinoline (E 104), indigo (E 132).
If symptoms of the disease persist for more than 3 days, are accompanied by high fever, headache or other phenomena, you should consult a doctor.
The drug may cause numbness of the tongue, so after taking the drug you should eat and drink with caution.
Patients with diabetes should note that 1 Strepsils ® Plus lozenge contains approximately 2.6 g of sugar.
The drug should not be used immediately before or during meals to prevent food from entering the respiratory tract due to the local anesthetic effect of lidocaine.
The drug may cause mild, transient taste disturbances, so caution should be exercised when consuming hot food and water.
The local anesthetic effect of lidocaine may cause temporary numbness of the mouth and throat and may also affect swallowing.
Use with caution in patients with erosive and desquamative changes in the oral mucosa, fresh large wounds in the oral cavity and pharynx.
No effects on the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery have been reported.
Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age.

The duration of use of the drug should not exceed 5 days; if there is no therapeutic effect, the patient is recommended to consult a doctor again to clarify the diagnosis and correct therapy.
Use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Since Strepsils Plus contains ethanol, using the spray in the first trimester of pregnancy is highly not recommended. Despite the fact that the active components of the drug are absorbed into the general bloodstream in small quantities, they can still negatively affect the intrauterine development of the fetus and cause the formation of anomalies and congenital deformities.
In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, the drug Strepsils plus in the form of a spray can be used to treat expectant mothers only under the supervision of a doctor, in the case where the benefit to the mother outweighs the likely complications for the child in the womb.
It is not known whether the components of the drug are excreted in breast milk, and how exactly this can affect the baby, so nursing mothers should use Strepsils plus spray with caution and only after prior consultation with a doctor.
Side effects
In most cases, the drug is well tolerated by patients, however, in persons with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, local adverse reactions may develop:
In some cases, allergic reactions may develop. All of these side effects are not dangerous, go away on their own within minutes and do not require discontinuation of drug treatment.
Overdose
Cases of overdose with Strepsils Plus aerosol have not been described, however, in order to avoid the development of side effects, it is not recommended to exceed the dose indicated in the instructions. With uncontrolled use of the drug in large doses, the patient may develop bronchospasm and adverse reactions from the digestive tract.
Interaction of the drug with other drugs
There is no data on drug interactions with Strepsils Plus in spray form.
The aerosol can be prescribed to patients simultaneously with antibiotics or other local antiseptics, but a certain time interval should be maintained between doses of the drugs.
special instructions
The drug Strepsils plus in the form of a spray cannot be used to treat children under 12 years of age, since there is no clinical experience with its use and data on the safety of the drug for children is not provided.
The drug contains ethanol, which should be taken into account when prescribing the spray to patients undergoing treatment for chronic alcoholism.
For patients prone to developing bronchospasm or laryngeal edema, Strepsils in aerosol form should be used with extreme caution.
Within 15 minutes after using Strepsils Plus spray, patients experience a decrease in loss of tongue sensitivity, which is not a pathology and is caused by lidocaine hydrochloride, which is part of the drug.
After spraying the drug onto the affected area, it is not recommended to eat or drink water for 1 hour, otherwise the therapeutic effect will be reduced.
The drug does not have any effect on the patient’s ability to drive a car or use equipment that requires increased concentration.

Reviews from doctors about strepsils plus
A drug with good therapeutic effect. Tested on myself. Really relieves pain. Relieves cough due to irritation of the mucous membrane. The antiseptic effect is also satisfactory.
Recommended for children over 12 years old, if there is no allergy to the components of the drug - a good choice. Let it be in the first aid kit, because it all starts in the evening, when you can’t run to the pharmacy (it’s closed or you don’t want to run, you don’t have the strength).
Strepsils plus - perfectly helps as a symptomatic action. The presence of lidocaine relieves pain, which often manifests itself with pharyngitis and exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis.
I prescribe the spray after removal of tonsils and adenoids - with the help of it, patients can somehow eat. The price corresponds to the quality.
The drug "Strepsils+" is used in combination therapy for throat diseases (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc.) The composition includes lidocaine, which is certainly a plus during sore throat. The price corresponds to the quality and effectiveness of the drug. Complications most often involve an allergic reaction to lidocaine. I recommend it to patients.
It is used only in complex therapy in the treatment of catarrhal phenomena in the throat (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc.) The advantage is the addition of lidocaine to its composition, which allows you to temporarily remove severe soreness in the throat, however, you must remember the high probability of developing an allergy from lidocaine in persons predisposed to this.
Unreasonably high cost of the drug.
The drug is certainly symptomatic. There is no need to expect any powerful etiological effect from it. A simple drug. It has a standard set of effects: anesthetic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. The lollipop form is convenient, since, unlike ointments, thanks to this form, the exposure is extended until it is completely absorbed.
I recommend it as a good remedy for relieving pain and swelling in the oral cavity.
Patient reviews of strepsils plus
I study at the academy. One winter day I felt that I had a cold. And since I had to give a report in the audience, I couldn’t afford to catch a cold. My throat hurt - terrible. These pills were advertised on TV. I went to the pharmacy to buy something. I fell for the advertising. They help for about 5 minutes, after which the pain returns. I don't recommend using them because I don't think they're effective in fighting colds.
I got very sick, my voice became weak, I didn’t know how to treat myself. I tried folk remedies and a bunch of medications, but the pharmacist at the pharmacy recommended Strepsils Plus, I took it every 2 hours + rinsing. The next day I was like a cucumber, very grateful! Another plus is that its price is inexpensive, meaning everyone can afford it!
On TV you can only see advertisements for these throat medications, “Strepsils” takes first place in the advertising rating, but from personal experience I would not say that they are effective and cure colds, it’s just that while using the drug, the throat becomes easier for a while, and after 2-3 hours the pain appears again. I had to look for alternative cold medications from other manufacturers, which really help quickly and are many times cheaper. So I was simply disappointed in this drug and tested it on my own experience. In the pharmacy chain, when I ask about cough and cold tablets, the pharmacists almost always recommend Strepsils. Maybe this drug just doesn’t suit my immune system.
These lollipops just save me and my whole family from a terrible sore throat every winter! Moreover, they help not only get rid of pain, but also restore your voice. I don't know what I would do without them. I get colds regularly, every winter, so they are always in my medicine cabinet. The lollipops taste good, refresh and instantly relieve a sore throat. I honestly admit that I don’t know what the difference is between Strepsils and Strepsils Plus, but since the pharmacy recommended Strepsils Plus to me, I only buy it!

Review of Strepsils lozenges and spray
The pharmaceutical market offers various drugs for the local treatment of throat diseases in the form of lozenges and in spray form. One such medicine is Strepsils. Let's figure out what types there are, who can take it, what indications and contraindications it has.
Proven formula for effective treatment
The products, which are sold in the former Soviet Union under the Strepsils brand, were developed by the British corporation Reckitt Benckinser. On the American market, the drug is sold under the name Cepacol, on the European market – Benagol or Dobentan Strepsils. At the moment, several types of lozenges are produced, as well as a spray.
Chemical properties of the drug
All Strepsils lozenges and spray (except Intensive lozenges) contain two components: amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. These components have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effects, and antiseptic activity. In addition, amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol are characterized by a special quality - the ability to reversibly block ion channels in the membranes of nerve cell synapses - thus achieving an effect similar to the action of local anesthetics. The formula of the Strepsils Plus spray includes lidocaine, which enhances the analgesic effect.
The drug "Strepsils Intensive" additionally includes the chemical component flurbiprofen. This component belongs to the group of NSAIDs - non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It selectively blocks the activity of the enzymes COX-1 and COX-2 (cyclooxygenase 1 and 2), which are involved in the formation of pro-inflammatory substances - prostaglandins. Thus, flurbiprofen has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.
On the pharmacy shelf you can find Strepsils sore throat remedies in various flavors and aromas.
Strepsils with honey and lemon
Strepsils with menthol and eucalyptus
Strepsils with vitamin C
Strepsils with a warming effect
Strepsils without sugar
Strepsils for children
Strepsils plus spray
Similar drugs
There are practically no complete analogues of Strepsils sore throat lozenges on the domestic pharmaceutical market. There are a number of medicines that contain either amylmetacresol or 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. For example, Angisept lozenges (produced by Dr. Theiss) contain 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol.
An analogue containing both components is Neoangin lozenges. The composition of this drug includes: amylmetacresol, 2,3-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, levomenthol. In terms of price, these two drugs are practically the same.
There are also a number of generic analogues produced by Indian pharmaceutical companies. They have a fairly low price, but the quality of the product does not always correspond to what is declared.
Contraindications
General contraindications for the use of lozenges and Strepsils spray - like all other medicines: individual intolerance to the active substance or auxiliary components. Children under 6 years of age limit the use of lozenges; Flurbiprofen spray and lozenges should not be taken by children under 12 years of age.
Use in pregnant women and breastfeeding is a controversial issue. The active components of the drug do not have a mutagenic or teratogenic effect, this has been clinically proven. At the same time, both active ingredients easily pass into breast milk. In any case, the issue of using the drug Strepsils during pregnancy and lactation should be discussed individually. According to the package insert “instructions for use”, the use of Strepsils Intensive lozenges for the treatment of pregnant women is contraindicated.
All forms of the drug, including Intensive lozenges and spray, can be used to treat sore throat in adults and children (over 6 or 12 years of age). Sometimes only such treatment is enough, sometimes lozenges for a sore throat are only part of a serious complex treatment. Take the tablets strictly according to the instructions, do not exceed the daily dose and duration of treatment. It must be remembered that these are not just candies with different flavors, but preparations for topical use. Exceeding the dose and duration of the course can lead to digestive upset and imbalance of oral microflora.
