Snoop: lineup

In addition to xylometazoline hydrochloride, this medicine contains potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sea and purified water. Once on the mucous membrane, the “ingredients” constrict the blood vessels. Thanks to this, inflammatory manifestations are reduced: swelling, redness, nasal congestion, and breathing is restored.

You won't have to wait long to get the first results. Relief of the general condition occurs within 3 minutes after injection. The effect lasts for 6 hours.

When is Snoop spray prescribed?

Snoop nasal spray is indicated for various ENT pathologies:

  • acute respiratory infections and flu, accompanied by a runny nose;
  • allergic rhinitis;
  • otitis media;
  • sinusitis;
  • hay fever;
  • eustachites;

It is also prescribed before diagnostic studies.

Is Snoop allowed for small children?

Is there a children's Snoop for a runny nose? At what age can it be used? Does it cause allergic reactions? Parents are concerned not only with these, but also with many other questions.

The instructions for Snoop do not contain information about the presence of a special form called “children’s”. However, the solution is available in two versions - 0.05% and 0.1%. The first one is possible for children, but only from 2 years old. It should not be used before the specified period - to eliminate nasal congestion and runny nose, you can find many other products in pharmacies that have a natural composition and a minimum of side effects. 0.1% spray is prescribed for children over 6 years of age, adolescents and adults.

As it becomes clear, Snoop for children contains 0.5 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride, for adults - 0.1 mg.

Benefits of the medication

The drug has earned many positive reviews. After analyzing patient reviews, it becomes clear why.

  • availability. Not everyone is able to buy expensive medicines for the common cold, but everyone can afford the medicine described in the article, because it is inexpensive;
  • proven effectiveness. The drug helps to quickly get rid of swelling of the mucous membrane and restore breathing. This has been repeatedly proven by research;
  • ease of use. The bottle easily fits into a pocket or small purse. You can take it with you on the road and not be afraid that the solution will spill;
  • contains sea water. There are dozens of xylometazoline-based products in pharmacies, but not all of them contain sea water, rich in minerals, as an additional component. The use of Snoop not only eliminates unpleasant symptoms, but also takes care of the mucous membrane and prevents it from drying out;
  • there is no risk of overdose. With one “spray” a strictly defined amount of the active substance enters the body - if used correctly, the possibility of an overdose is excluded.

But what about the cons?

Of course, it was not without its drawbacks.

  • Cannot be used for more than 7 days. It is addictive and causes rhinitis medicamentosa;
  • there is a large list of contraindications;
  • for children Snoop (especially under 6 years old) should be used with caution - possible side effects;
  • an open bottle can be stored for no longer than 3 months;
  • not prescribed for chronic runny nose.

Contraindications

Snoop vasoconstrictor spray is not prescribed for the following conditions:

  • hypersensitivity to the constituent components;
  • hypertonic disease;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • cardiopalmus;
  • thyrotoxicosis;
  • operations on the meninges (in the past).

Snoop is not prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. With caution - with ischemic heart disease, diabetes, prostate hyperplasia.

Snoop: instructions for use

Children from 2 to 6 years old are prescribed a 0.05% spray. 1 injection 2-3 times a day. Snoop 0.1% is used to treat children over 6 years of age and adults. 1 spritz 3 times a day.

Independently increasing the frequency of administration entails side effects. Follow your doctor's orders!

The average duration of treatment is 5 days. Maximum - 7 days. An increase to 10 days is allowed, but with an interval of 5 days (use 5 days - rest 5 days - use 5 days).

Side effects

Sometimes using Snoop causes negative consequences. This happens for three reasons:

  • Exceeding the frequency of administration - it is not recommended to use the spray more than 2-3 times a day;
  • independent increase in the duration of treatment. The duration of the therapeutic course is determined by the doctor. If you are prescribed the drug for 10 days, then after 5 days of use you should take a short break;
  • The drug just isn't right for you.

So what side effects may appear? Most often local reactions occur:

Less commonly, common side effects appear:

Particular attention should be paid to the general condition when treating children. When prescribing Snoop spray to children 2-3 years old, “side effects” can manifest themselves in the form of excessive tearfulness, mood swings and even loss of appetite.

Snoop: analogues

The spray has several analogues, completely identical in the main active substance, but slightly different in additional components.

The listed medications are complete structural analogues. That is, if Snoop is not in the pharmacy, he can be replaced with the above medications.

Which is better: Naphthyzin or Snoop?

Some doctors prescribe Naphthyzin as an alternative to the “hero” of this article. Which drug is better - what to choose?

To begin with, it should be emphasized that these two drugs are not structural analogues, because their main active ingredients are different. In the first case - xylometazoline, in the second - naphazoline.

However, they are very similar. They have the same indications, contraindications and side effects. But Naphthyzin is a little different from Snoop.

  • Available in two dosage forms: drops and spray;
  • can be used up to 4 times a day;
  • the solution remains suitable for use for 3 years after opening (the “life” of Snoop after opening is 3 months).

Otherwise, there are no special differences between them. It’s just that Snoop is more suitable for some, and Naphthyzin for others.

Conclusion: Snoop is an affordable and highly effective drug that can quickly eliminate a runny nose, swelling and nasal congestion.

I've used snoop before, but always in blue packaging. but today such absurdity almost took my life away.

And my favorite is the Rinomaris spray. It is soft, acts quickly and there have never been any complications after it. I recommend.

Snoop: advantages and disadvantages of vasoconstrictor spray

Despite the quick results and effect of the drug, you need to understand that it is not able to completely stop the disease. And frequent and unsystematic use of Snoop can cause addiction, side effects and a decrease in the therapeutic effect. Therefore, before using it, you should carefully study the instructions for use.

Composition and action

The active ingredient in Snoop is xylometazoline hydrochloride. It is included in the drug in two therapeutic concentrations - 0.05% and 0.1%.

Snoop drops are a colorless and odorless liquid. They have a stimulating effect on receptors located in the muscle layer of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa. As a result of the resulting reaction, they narrow, which leads to a reduction in the volume of mucous discharge, relieving swelling and hyperemia of the nasal cavity.

Additional components of Snoop, a medicine for the common cold, are sea and purified water. Sea water is enriched with salts and microelements, which improve the effect of the drug, providing an anti-inflammatory, disinfecting and protective effect in the nasal cavity.

Thanks to the composition of the drug, the clinical manifestations of rhinitis and colds are reduced, namely, nasal breathing is significantly facilitated and the symptoms of a runny nose disappear. A single use of Snoop for a runny nose, according to the instructions, makes it possible to obtain a therapeutic result within 3 minutes and maintain it for up to 5 hours.

Release forms

Snoop in the nose is available only in the form of a spray for intranasal use. There are no nasal drops with this name.

Nowadays, there are two versions of this product with a vasoconstrictor effect. They differ from each other in the therapeutic dosage of the active ingredient - xylometazoline hydrochloride. Snoop nasal spray is prescribed for adults in a concentration of 0.1%, for children - 0.05%.

The drug is relatively inexpensive, but its cost varies among pharmacies. Medicine Snoop can cost from 100 to 180 rubles.

Indications and contraindications

Many patients ask the doctor whether Snoop nasal preparation is a vasoconstrictor or not. This remedy gives good results against a whole list of diseases affecting the ENT organs, thanks to its vasoconstrictor effect.

Also, according to the instructions for use, Snoop nasal spray can be used immediately before conducting examinations in the nasal cavity, oropharynx and auditory tube to remove unnecessary mucus and relieve local swelling.

Like any medicinal product, the spray should not be used for therapeutic purposes for certain conditions.

Contraindications to the use of Snoop nasal spray according to the instructions are the following diseases and conditions:

  • chronic arterial hypertension;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • any degree of glaucoma;
  • pathologies of the endocrine system, in particular the thyroid gland;
  • surgical interventions on the membranes of the brain noted in the anamnesis;
  • children under 2 years of age for a solution having a concentration of 0.05%;
  • contraindicated in children under 6 years of age when using a solution with a concentration of 0.1%;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • prostate enlargement;
  • diabetes;
  • individual hypersensitivity of the body to any of the components of the drug.

An accidental or intentional overdose of Snoop, used for the common cold, can lead to increased side effects. At the same time, I would like to note that the product itself is highly safe for use by potential patients. This is due to the fact that with the help of one injection, a sufficient amount of the medicinal substance enters the nasal cavity, which constitutes the required therapeutic dose for the next few hours. That is, it is quite difficult to allow an overdose of this drug unless it is intentional.

Is the drug suitable for children?

Before you start treating a child with a vasoconstrictor, you need to carefully study the instructions for use and find out in what cases Snoop should be used for children and whether it can be used at all. Many adults believe that vasoconstrictor drugs, which they are used to using for rhinitis, are harmless for children. But for children under one year old, and in some cases up to 2 years old, such products are usually contraindicated, including Snoop nasal spray.

This drug in a minimum concentration can be used in children from the age of two only after the permission of the attending physician. This is due to the fact that Snoop has a systemic effect on the body, which means it can harm the health of a small child.

Advantages and disadvantages of the drug

Snoop is widely used in ENT practice for the treatment of children and adults, so today this drug has received many reviews from its consumers.

The advantages of the drug include:

  1. Availability. Not all patients have the opportunity to purchase expensive medications prescribed by a doctor. People with almost any budget can afford to buy the drug Snoop. It is really inexpensive and does its job successfully. Eliminates clinical signs of rhinitis in the shortest possible time, restoring nasal breathing.
  2. Ease of use. The product is so convenient that it can be carried in a small bag or even a pocket. In addition, it cannot spill or deteriorate during such storage (of course, if the expiration dates are met).
  3. Additionally, it contains sea water. Today, many drugs based on the active component xylometazoline hydrochloride are sold on the pharmacy market, but not all of them contain sea water enriched with useful minerals. What does sea water do for the drug? It relieves excessive dryness of the mucous membrane, which can be caused by kilometazoline itself, and also takes care of the nasal cavity, regenerating and moisturizing it, washing away pathogenic bacteria.
  4. The possibility of overdose is practically excluded. Just one injection of Snoop according to the instructions for use guarantees the supply of a strict amount of medicinal substance calculated for one dose. If treatment is carried out correctly, the risk of overdose is reduced to zero.

Despite these advantages, the drug also has its disadvantages.

  1. Treatment cannot be carried out for longer than 7 days. Prolonged therapy can lead to addiction and the development of drug-induced rhinitis.
  2. A large list of contraindications.
  3. Restrictions in childhood. Snoop nasal drops are not used for children under one year of age; according to the instructions, they can only be used from two years of age in an age-appropriate concentration under the supervision of a doctor.
  4. An opened bottle should not be stored for more than 3 months.

Instructions and dosage

The drug Snoop is used intranasally. Before treating the nasal cavity, it is recommended to rinse it with saline or sea water for better interaction of the medication with the mucous membrane.

The dosage and frequency of use of Snoop depend on the patient’s age:

  • children from 2 to 6 years old are prescribed an injection of a 0.05% solution 3 times a day;
  • in children over 6 years of age and adults, use 0.1% spray once 3 times a day.

The drug should not be used more often than indicated in the instructions. The duration of treatment should be from 3 to 7 days.

Side effects

In exceptional cases, the drug can cause undesirable effects. This usually occurs due to exceeding the frequency of administration of the product, prolongation of the recommended course of treatment and the use of a spray in the presence of contraindications.

In most cases, local reactions develop in the form of sneezing and itching in the nasal cavity, swelling and an increase in the volume of mucous discharge.

Systemic side effects associated with excessive release of the active substance of the drug into the general bloodstream occur less frequently, namely:

  • tachycardia;
  • blood pressure surges;
  • nausea, vomiting;
  • deterioration in the quality of vision;
  • sleep disorders.

The greatest attention should be paid to children when treating with this drug. The use of Snoop in childhood, even with strict adherence to the instructions for use, does not always protect the child from the development of undesirable effects. They manifest themselves in the form of increased emotionality and loss of appetite.

Analogs

Vasoconstrictors are popular in otolaryngology, so it is not surprising that the drug Snoop has both cheaper and more expensive analogues. Read more about vasoconstrictors→

Let's look at some of them:

  • Spray Otrivin. Like Snoop, it is created on the basis of xylometazoline hydrochloride, which means it has a similar operating principle. In addition to the active ingredient, it additionally contains menthol and eucalyptus - agents that soothe the nasal mucosa.
  • Spray Xymelin Eco. In addition to xylometazoline hydrochloride, this drug contains levomenthol, a component that enhances and complements the effect of the drug. Like other analogues, the product effectively combats the symptoms of a runny nose.
Despite the fact that the principle of action of the listed Snoop analogues is approximately the same due to the content of the same active ingredient, the drugs can differ significantly in price - be cheaper or more expensive in cost. This can be a decisive factor when choosing a medicine.

Efficacy of the drug

Snoop is a multifunctional and effective drug that fights not only the unpleasant manifestations of rhinitis, but also affects infectious factors due to the anti-inflammatory properties of sea water. This makes the product one of the best in the line of vasoconstrictor drugs.

Many patients are afraid in advance of the possible side effects that all xylometazoline-based drugs have. Unfortunately, they cannot be 100% avoided, as is the case with any other modern medicine. But, as mentioned above, the risk of unwanted effects depends on the correct use of the drug.

Instructions for use of Snoop spray for adults and children

The drug Snoop is a solution for topical treatment. It is available in the form of drops and spray as a decongestant. It is prescribed to patients of different age categories for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the nose, paranasal sinuses, and ears. The medicine is intended exclusively for intranasal use. The article discusses detailed instructions for using Snoop spray.

Chemical composition of Snoop solution

The main active ingredient of the drug is xylometazoline. When it comes into contact with the mucous membrane, this remedy causes a feeling of numbness, constricts blood vessels and capillaries. It belongs to the group of alpha-agonists. The substance activates receptors that produce adrenaline, which leads to metabolic and functional changes in the body.

Xylometazoline is included in the list of vital and necessary medicines. The substance begins to show its activity within a few minutes after contact with soft tissues and continues to affect the condition of the mucous membrane for several hours.

Additional components included in the drug:

  • potassium dihydrogen phosphate – complexing agent for the preparation of liquid dosage forms;
  • sea water is an antiseptic, disinfectant, restorative agent;
  • purified water.

Dosage form of release

The drug Snoop is available in the form of a solution for topical use. It is applied to the mucous membranes by irrigation or instillation.

The medicine is available in the form of a clear, colorless solution. 1 g of spray contains:

  • xylometazoline – 0.5 or 1 mg;
  • sea water – 250 mg;
  • potassium dihydrogen phosphate – 0.45 mg;
  • purified water – 750 mg.

Snoop is available in the form of a nasal aerosol in plastic bottles with a special valve for spraying the solution. Capacity volume 15 ml. The bottle is sold in a cardboard box along with instructions for use. After opening, the drug is suitable for use for 3 months. Stored at room temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Depending on the concentration of the active substance, the solution is available in the following dosages:

  • Snoop for children from 2 to 6 years old – 0.05%;
  • Snoop for adults and children over 6 years old – 0.1%.
  • One bottle is designed for 150 doses.

The manufacturer of the drug is Germany. The cost depends on the dosage. The average price is 125 rubles for a solution of 0.05%, 133 rubles for a 0.1% solution.

Pharmacological features of the drug

Snoop solution is an anticongestive agent. Its main action is aimed at relieving swelling of the mucous membrane. The production of adrenaline by irritating receptors leads to a phenomenon such as vasoconstriction (vasoconstrictor effect) - narrowing of the lumen of blood capillaries and vessels.

Under the influence of the drug the following processes occur:

  • swelling is eliminated;
  • redness of the mucous membrane is relieved;
  • nasal breathing is facilitated as a result of the restoration of nasal patency.

Snoop with sea water affects the physiological processes in the nose and paranasal sinuses. Sea water has healing properties; its content in the solution provides positive dynamics in the treatment of inflammatory pathologies.

Properties of sea water in Snoop:

  • maintains the physiological state of the mucous membranes;
  • dilutes exudate and promotes its removal from the nasal passages;
  • stimulates the restoration processes of the mucous membrane;
  • improves the functionality of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium;
  • enhances the stability of local immunity;
  • prevents the introduction of viruses and bacteria;
  • disinfects and sanitizes (cleanses) the mucous membranes of the nose and sinuses from pathological sputum.

Indications for the use of Snoop spray

The main purpose of the drug is to quickly restore nasal breathing, eliminate a profuse runny nose and relieve swelling. Most often, Snoop nasal spray is prescribed as part of complex therapy for the treatment of a viral infection, as well as its complications.

Indications for use:

  • acute rhinitis due to ARVI, influenza;
  • sinusitis of various etiologies and localizations - sinusitis, ethmoiditis, frontal sinusitis;
  • allergic rhinitis, hay fever (seasonal allergic disease accompanying runny nose and conjunctivitis);
  • eustachitis - inflammation of the canal connecting the ear and pharynx;
  • otitis – inflammation of the middle ear, which is accompanied by the spread of swelling to the nasal mucosa;
  • preparation for endoscopic examination (rhinoscopy) of ENT organs, in order to reduce swelling and redness, for better visibility during diagnosis.

Contraindications for use

Snoop drops are not prescribed if you are highly sensitive to the drug components.

Despite the fact that the drug acts only at the local level and is not absorbed into the general bloodstream, the risk of increasing adrenaline in the blood remains. In this regard, nasal solution is not prescribed to patients with a history of the following internal diseases:

  • hypertension – a stable increase in blood pressure;
  • generalized atherosclerosis;
  • angina pectoris, myocardial infarction;
  • strokes.

Absolute contraindications for use are severe endocrine system disorders (thyrotoxicosis, type 1 diabetes, prostate hyperplasia), angle-closure glaucoma - a violation of the quality of vision due to the closure of the angle of the anterior chamber of the iris, which is accompanied by an increase in intraocular pressure, paroxysmal pain, and impaired outflow of intraocular fluid.

The medicine is not prescribed for atrophic rhinitis (thinning of the mucous membrane with loss of functionality).

The drug is dangerous for patients who have a history of surgical treatment of the meninges.

Snoop should be prescribed to young children with caution. This is due to the fact that all substances that enter the mucous membrane are absorbed into the systemic bloodstream and concentrated in the plasma. Thus, the amount of adrenaline increases, which leads to increased heart rate and increased blood pressure. Against the background of high temperature, drops can provoke convulsions.

Snooping for nasal congestion during pregnancy is contraindicated, as it can cause vasospasm of the placenta and disrupt the blood supply to the fetus, causing oxygen starvation.

Snoop is not dangerous during breastfeeding, as it acts only locally and does not pass into breast milk.

Directions for use in adults and children

For adults, nasal aerosol is prescribed Snoop 0.1%, 1 injection into each nostril 3 times a day, at regular intervals.

Children from 6 to 12 years of age and adolescents can be prescribed either a 0.1% or 0.05% solution. When using a 0.1% aerosol, the treatment regimen consists of three doses of 1 injection into the nasal passages. If the doctor has prescribed a 0.05% spray, then spray 1-2 doses into each nostril 3 times a day.

The drug can be used by children from 2 years of age. The dosage regimen for children is 0.05% solution, 1 injection 2-3 times a day.

In some cases, pediatricians may prescribe Snoop for infants. Since the aerosol is not recommended for use in children, the solution is dripped. In this case, it is used as Snoop nose drops.

The maximum course of treatment is 7 days.

For a nasal spray to have a therapeutic effect, it must be injected into the nasal passages cleared of mucus. Therefore, before treatment, the nose must be thoroughly rinsed with a saline solution for sanitation (Salin) and cleaned of crusts.

Rules for using the spray:

  1. Remove the protective cap from the bottle.
  2. During initial use, sharply press the special rim at the bottom of the sprayer several times until an aerosol cloud appears.
  3. Spraying of the medicine is carried out in a vertical position (sitting).
  4. Do not tilt the bottle horizontally or downwards.
  5. Insert the nozzle into the nasal passage at a distance of 0.5-1 cm. Press the sprayer with a sharp movement. Then remove it.
  6. Repeat the manipulation with the other nasal passage.
  7. After use, close the bottle with the cap.
  8. Each bottle is used individually.

Possible side effects and overdose

In cases of neglect of the treatment regimen and with prolonged use of the spray, drug-induced rhinitis may develop - severe swelling of the mucous membrane and exudation as a response of the body.

At the local level, side effects are manifested by the following symptoms:

  • burning, tingling;
  • dryness of the mucous membrane of the nose and sinuses;
  • itching, irritation, sneezing;
  • paresthesia – sensitivity disorders in the form of numbness, “crawling goosebumps”, which is caused by irritation of nerve endings and fibers;
  • hypersecretion - profuse runny nose.

In general, the drug is well tolerated by patients. With long-term uncontrolled treatment, mental disorders of a depressive nature rarely occur.

In case of overdose, the severity of side effects increases. Treatment is symptomatic, in accordance with the symptoms manifested.

According to the annotation, Snoop is incompatible with antidepressants (MAO inhibitors).

Analogues of Spray Snoop:

Snoop for a runny nose is prescribed as a quick and emergency aid for nasal congestion. The drug should absolutely not be used for the treatment of chronic rhinitis. In this case, other alternative nasal remedies are prescribed.

Who should use Snoop nasal spray?

One of the most effective and popular groups of drugs, the action of which is aimed at combating the runny nose, are vasoconstrictors. Undoubtedly, their use has its own nuances, which should never be neglected, but after instillation, relief comes in a matter of minutes and it becomes easier for a person to breathe. Sprays are considered the preferred form in relation to these drugs, so the choice of drugs on pharmacy shelves is very large. Let's take a closer look at the instructions for using the product called Snoop Spray and find out all the subtleties of its use.

Composition of Snoop nasal spray

The main component of the composition is xylometazoline hydrochloride, which can be present in concentrations of 0.05 and 0.1%. The liquid is colorless, without a pronounced aroma. This substance stimulates receptors in the muscular layer of blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, resulting in their narrowing. As a result, the volume of mucus secreted, swelling and redness of the tissues lining the nasal cavity and sinus cavity are reduced. Auxiliary components of the composition are: purified water, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and sea water.

The symptoms of a runny nose reduce their severity, and this makes breathing through the nose quickly easier, which is very important for such an uncomfortable symptom. A single use allows you to get results within three minutes, and it lasts up to 5 hours, depending on individual characteristics.

Pharmacological properties of the drug

Snoop is a medicine intended specifically for nasal use for a runny nose. This product has a vasoconstrictor effect, which relieves the symptoms of rhinitis. Local use of the spray does not allow its components to be absorbed into the general bloodstream in large quantities, so the concentration of the active substance in the blood is so low that modern methods do not detect it.

The inclusion of sea water in the composition of the spray allows you to obtain additional beneficial effects from its use. Thus, the microelements and salts that are found in this liquid have an anti-inflammatory effect, disinfect the area and stimulate metabolic processes in the tissues, thereby restoring the protective function of the mucous membranes. The slight mechanical effect that is created when injecting the medicine also helps to increase vascular tone.

What does a nasal medication help with?

Spray Snoop is an effective tool for symptomatic therapy for a number of diseases that affect the nasal cavity:

  • allergic rhinitis;
  • acute respiratory viral infections;
  • sinusitis (inflammation of one or several paranasal sinuses at once. This can occur during infectious diseases or as a complication after improper treatment of a runny nose. Depending on which sinuses are inflamed, ethnomyoditis, sphenoiditis, frontal sinusitis and sinusitis are distinguished;
  • acute and chronic inflammatory process localized in the auditory tube;

inflammation of the middle ear (otitis).

Also, the use of vasoconstrictor drops is necessary when carrying out various diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages and cavities - this removes excess mucus and allows you to fully examine the necessary areas.

Instructions for use for children and adults

Before using a new bottle, you just need to press it several times to achieve the normal dosage dispensed by the sprayer. So, the nasal passages need to be cleared of excess mucus, after which you can start spraying - the bottle is brought to the nose, slightly deeper into the cavity, and be sure to keep your head straight and the spray itself vertical, make the required number of injections, inhaling at the same time. The dosage of the drug is prescribed by the attending physician, but there are general recommendations described in the instructions:

  • The main question for parents is: at what age can the drug be given to children? According to the instructions, it is recommended that children from 2 to 6 years old not more than one spray of the product in a children's concentration of 0.05%. It is worth noting that for small children the use of a spray form is generally unacceptable, regardless of the drug itself, since there is a high probability of developing otitis media due to the supply of liquid under pressure;
  • for children over 6 years of age and adults, an adult dosage is prescribed - 1 spray into each nasal passage at a time in a concentration of 0.1%.

The maximum number of procedures allowed in one day is 2. In this case, the interval between treatments should be 6 hours. The duration of therapy should not be more than a week, since vasoconstrictors cannot be taken for a long time due to the development of addiction and complications.

Is it possible to spray Snoop in the nose during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is considered a contraindication to the use of the spray in question. As for the lactation period, use is possible, but with extreme caution and only with the permission of a doctor.

Side effects and contraindications

In most cases, the drug is well tolerated by patients, but in some cases there were signs of a negative reaction to the drug in the form of increased dryness of the mucous membrane and an unpleasant sensation of itching. Separately, it is worth noting the consequences of long-term use of the drug. The mucous membrane gets used to the doses of the vasoconstrictor, after which it will be very difficult to wean yourself off the spray. And using the product will lead to headaches, recurrence of a runny nose, increased blood pressure and even a decrease in visual acuity.

Contraindications to the use of the drug include:

  • chronic high blood pressure;
  • glaucoma in any form;
  • atherosclerosis in severe conditions;
  • thyroid diseases;
  • presence in the medical history of operations performed on the meninges;
  • for a 0.05% solution, the contraindication is age up to two years, for a 0.1% solution - up to six years;
  • increased sensitivity to the component composition.

An overdose causes increased side effects, but it is worth noting that the spray form is the safest. That is, due to the fact that the same amount of product comes out with one injection, it is extremely difficult to overdose, which cannot be said about the shape of the drops.

Analogs of medicines for the treatment of the nose

Considering the popularity of vasoconstrictor drugs, it is not surprising that there are a lot of products from various manufacturers that have similar active ingredients and operating principles. Analogues of Snoop spray include:

  • Farmazolin N spray (effect lasts for 10 hours);
  • Galazolin (spray at a concentration of 0.05% of the active substance);
  • Otrivin spray based on xylometazoline. The product has several other important components - eucalyptus and menthol, which, in addition to the aroma, soothe the nasal mucosa;
  • Tizin xylo;
  • Xymelin Eco with levomenthol, which enhances and complements the effect of the main active ingredient;
  • Eucazoline with eucalyptus oil, which provides additional antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects;
  • Xylene;
  • Rhinonorm;
  • For the nose (the spray is available only in a concentration of 0.1%), etc.

The drugs have a similar effect due to a similar composition, but they can vary greatly in price, which can be a decisive factor for the patient.

Storing the drug after opening it

Questions about how to open a bottle and how exactly to use it usually do not arise, but you should adhere to the rules regarding storing an already opened product. The shelf life indicated on the product packaging - 5 years from the date of manufacture - applies exclusively to sealed containers, which should be stored at a temperature of no more than 25 degrees Celsius. If the drug has already been opened, it can only be used for three months, and even if there is still some product left, it will have to be thrown away.

Video about treating runny nose with sprays

This video discusses the main types of nasal sprays and the features of their impact on the problem of a runny nose, and also describes the rules for their correct use.

Reviews

Karina: I know very well that frequent use of vasoconstrictor drugs is dangerous, but I can’t resist - as soon as I have a runny nose, I want to instantly get rid of all these inconveniences, and I use the spray.

Lisa: I liked how Snoop spray works, quickly and effectively, but in my opinion there are more affordable products with exactly the same effect. Why pay more?

Bogdan: I got sick and the doctor prescribed me this spray. Nothing special, the effect is usual for a vasoconstrictor, with its pros and cons, so it’s an ordinary, smooth drug. But the spray form is really very convenient, you don’t need to tilt your head back and can be used anywhere.

“Snoop” for children: at what age can it be used and how to use it

Copious nasal discharge is a common phenomenon in childhood and the most common disease in the world. They usually begin the manifestation of colds, allergies, and various inflammations of the nasal sinuses. Children suffer from a runny nose much worse than adults. This is especially true for very small children who cannot yet clean their nose on their own by simply blowing their nose. A common consequence of rhinitis in children is swelling of the nasal mucosa, otitis, cough and inflammation of the upper respiratory organs due to the fact that the mucus is not excreted, but flows down, accumulating in the trachea, bronchi, or enters the ear canal.

Babies are especially bothered by copious nasal discharge while they are sleeping. Therefore, a runny nose should be treated and the child should be helped to unblock breathing by rinsing the nasal passages and instilling vasoconstrictor drugs.

We will tell you more about one of these drugs - Snup nasal spray - below.

In particular, you will learn the answers to the following questions: can Snoop be used by children under one year old, at what age is the spray prescribed, how to use the bottle correctly and what are the contraindications to spraying this medicine.

Composition and pharmacological properties

Children's nasal spray contains the following components:

  • the main active ingredient is xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.5 mg);
  • additional substances - sea water (250 mg), purified water (754.35 mg), dihydrogen phosphate K (0.45 mg).

The drug is considered a drug used topically as a vasoconstrictor - it constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, leading to a reduction in swelling and restoring the capacity of the nasal passages, unblocking breathing.

Local use of the drug leads to the fact that it is minimally absorbed into the blood; its content in plasma is not determined even using modern methods.

Release form, packaging

The spray is produced in Germany. It is a clear, colorless liquid, packaged in a polyethylene bottle equipped with a valve for spraying. The bottle capacity is 15 ml, which is enough for 150 doses. The bottle is sold in a cardboard box.

You can buy it in pharmacies without a prescription. The unopened drug can be stored for 4 years from the date of release. After unpacking the bottle, the product can be used for 3 months.

Indications for use

The spray is prescribed for rhinitis of allergic and viral origin, sinusitis, and vasomotor rhinitis. And also for children who have been diagnosed with “otitis media” (without pus) and “eustachitis”.

Its use can be prescribed during the period when the child is being prepared for rhinoscopy or other methods of examining the insides of the nose.

Is it possible for children under one year old

Children under one year of age cannot be treated with this nasal spray. The instructions for use clearly indicate at what age you can inject children's Snoop - children from 2 years old.

How to use for children

From 2 to 6 years

Snoop spray (0.05%) is injected into each nasal passage up to 3 times a day. There is no need to inject more than 3 times, this can lead to an overdose.

The intervals between spraying the drug should be at least 6 hours.

The step-by-step application of the spray is as follows:

  1. Remove the cap from the bottle.
  2. Press the rim of the spray nozzle several times until the liquid begins to spray into the air.
  3. Sit the child upright with the chin slightly tilted down.
  4. Insert the tip of the spray into one cleaned nasal passage.
  5. Press the nozzle rim once.
  6. Ask the child to breathe air into himself.
  7. Repeat the same, spraying the medicine into the other nostril.
  8. Close the cap.

Over 6 years old

According to the instructions, to eliminate excessive mucus from the nose in children over 6 years of age, you need to use Snoop nasal spray (0.1%).

It is injected once into each nostril no more than 3 times a day.

Precautionary measures

  • Do not throw away the instructions for the drug immediately after purchase and review. You may need it to review the list of unwanted effects.

    Contraindications and side effects

    The instructions for use of Snoop (0.05%) for children indicate when the drug is contraindicated to use:

    • when the child has not reached the age of 2 years;
    • if the baby experiences cases of blood pressure rising above normal or tachycardia;
    • if there is a history of illnesses such as glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis;
    • if there has been surgery in the area of the meninges;
    • if an individual non-acceptance of the components of the drug by the body is recorded.

    It is recommended to spray the medicine with caution on children with angina pectoris, diabetics, and those suffering from serious heart disease.

    Usually the spray is well tolerated by the child's body, but there may be negative consequences.

    The drug may be associated with the following side effects:

    • irritation, dryness of the mucous membrane (with prolonged use);
    • burning;
    • increased secretion;
    • sneezing.

    Swelling of the mucous membrane, rapid heartbeat, irregular heart rhythm, jump in blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, sleep disorders, and depression are rarely recorded.

    With large doses of the drug, all of the above symptoms may occur. If increased doses of the drug were used, the child should be monitored by a doctor.

    Rhinitis is a common condition in children. A frequently ill child may experience about 15 runny noses a year. Every parent needs to know how to help their child unblock their breathing. When treating children, it is important not to immediately contact a pharmacist with a request to recommend an effective vasoconstrictor drug, but to visit a pediatrician. It is the doctor who, based on the accompanying symptoms, examination and color of mucus, will prescribe the drug that is most likely to help.

    It is important to understand that the etymology of a runny nose can be different, and accordingly, different medications will be required. When using Snoop spray in children, you need to monitor the child’s condition so as not to miss the occurrence of side effects.

    First try putting a couple of drops of alcohol on the lid (stopper, as I understand it?).

    To get into the gap between the walls of the bottle and the cap. And then slightly turn (a little at a time) the stopper back and forth. If nothing happens right away, you need to wait a couple of minutes and try turning and shaking the lid again.

    In theory, alcohol should dissolve what has dried there and generally act as a lubricating oil)

    Now, as advised, I kept the lid in ice and carefully poured hot water onto the neck. Then I tried to turn it through the towel with pliers. Nothing!((((

    Cover the neck with a bag of snow, for example (wrap it), after 15 minutes, slowly start rocking the stopper (don’t turn it, just rock it), sipping. It’s better not to pour water anywhere for contrast - it’s unsafe, IMHO.

    It will definitely open, I’m sure.

    But only now we managed to open it! I’m sharing my experience, maybe it will help someone)

    I wrapped the lid with adhesive tape and attached a small vice. Then she began to carefully turn it inside out. All! Hooray!

    In the first case, depressurization can be suspected.

    The second one is not clear to me: it seems like the tube is clogged, but then there should be some kind of air cushion between the clog and the sprayer, and the air is elastic. But my spray did not press at all, it stood like stone. Is that how it is? And if the moving part just jammed, then there’s nothing there to jam, I took it apart. Everything is smooth.
