Snoop 0 1 instructions
Description current as of 01/02/2015
- Latin name: Snup
- ATX code: R01AA07
- Active ingredient: Xylometazoline
- Manufacturer: STADA Arzneimittel (Germany)
Compound
1 ml of solution contains 0.5 (or 1.0) mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride. Auxiliary components: potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sea water, purified water.
Release form
The transparent solution is available in polyethylene bottles with a special spray valve. The volume of 15 ml is designed for 150 doses. Each cardboard pack contains 1 bottle with attached instructions from the manufacturer. Children's Snoop is available in the form of a colorless solution with a concentration of 0.05%.
pharmachologic effect
The drug is administered intranasally and has a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect. The active component belongs to alpha-adrenergic agonists, which have a stimulating effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the smooth muscle layer of the vascular wall. This mechanism of action ensures a narrowing of the lumen of blood vessels, a decrease in the severity of edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane, and a decrease in rhinorrhea. Snoop nasal drops allow you to quickly relieve the unpleasant symptoms of rhinitis of various origins. Xylometazoline facilitates nasal breathing.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Modern analytical methods do not allow determining the total concentration of the active substance in the blood, because the active ingredient is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation when applied topically. The therapeutic effect is registered within a few minutes after use and lasts for several hours.
Indications for use
Spray Snoop is actively used in ENT practice to relieve negative symptoms in:
The drug can be prescribed before a diagnostic procedure such as rhinoscopy to facilitate the procedure and improve the patency of the nasal passages.
Contraindications
- severe atherosclerosis;
- cardiopalmus;
- individual hypersensitivity;
- arterial hypertension;
- atrophic rhinitis;
- glaucoma;
- carrying a pregnancy;
- thyrotoxicosis;
- a history of specialized surgical interventions on the meninges.
A 0.1% solution is not used in pediatric practice in children under 6 years of age, 0.05% - up to 2 years of age.
Relative contraindications (use with caution):
Side effects
- swelling of the nasal mucosa;
- hypersecretion;
- dry mucous membranes;
- irritation in the area of application.
Vomiting and discomfort in the epigastric region are rarely observed. If other negative reactions are registered, it is recommended to seek the help of a specialist and independently discontinue the medication Spray Snoop.
Instructions for use (Method and dosage)
The medication is prescribed intranasally. Instructions for using Snoop: before first use, press the sprayer several times to ensure correct dosing. The nasal spray can only be used after clearing the nasal passages of crusts and mucus. Nasal drops for adults with a concentration of 0.1% are sprayed three times a day into each nasal passage. The required time interval between spraying is 6 hours. Duration of treatment is 3-7 days. Long-term therapy can lead to atrophy of the mucous wall, dose dependence, and decreased effectiveness. A special solution of 0.05% concentration is available for children. Children's Snoop is used once a day, 1 spray in each nasal passage (relevant for children 2-6 years old).
Overdose
Excessive doses can lead to serious disturbances in the functioning of the cardiac system (tachycardia, hypertension). Long-term treatment with high doses causes vomiting, paresthesia, dry mucous membranes, irritation of the nasal walls, visual disturbances, and insomnia. Chronic overdose is characterized by a depressive state. A specific antidote has not yet been developed. Syndromic therapy and specialist supervision are recommended.
Interaction
Tricyclic antidepressants and medications that inhibit monoamine oxidase cannot be used in conjunction with the drug.
Terms of sale
You can buy the spray without a prescription form from a doctor.
Storage conditions
The contents of the bottle do not contain preservatives and are sterile; opening the bottle yourself is not allowed. The manufacturer recommends maintaining a temperature regime of up to 25 degrees.
Best before date
special instructions
For chronic rhinitis, Snoop cannot be used for a long time (3-7 days).
Analogs
Structural analogues, the active component of which is Xylometazoline:
For children
Children's spup at a concentration of 0.05% can be used in children from 2 years of age.
Snoop during pregnancy (and lactation)
Snoop is contraindicated during pregnancy. It is recommended to interrupt breastfeeding if it is necessary to use medication during lactation.
Reviews about Snoop (opinion of patients, doctors)
Reviews from patients confirm the effectiveness of the solution in relieving the negative and unpleasant symptoms of rhinitis and hay fever. However, with prolonged and uncontrolled use, the effect disappears and the time interval for the drug’s effectiveness shortens. For children, a special form of spray is produced with a solution concentration of 0.05%. Children's Snoop has established itself as an effective drug for swelling of the nasal mucosa. Young mothers note that using the spray before bedtime makes it easier for the child to breathe through the nose and ensure a restful sleep.
Snoop price, where to buy
For Snoop spray, the price can vary in the range of rubles. Children's Snoop costs on average 135 rubles; nasal drops for adults – 125 rubles.

SNUP, nasal spray
Instructions for medical use
International nonproprietary name
Nasal spray 0.05%, 0.1%
1 ml spray contains
active substance - xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg or 1.0 mg,
excipients: sea water, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, purified water.
Transparent colorless solution
Nasal medications. Anticongestants and other nasal preparations for topical use. Sympathomimetics. Xylometazoline
ATX code R01AA07
When administered intranasally in recommended doses, it is practically not absorbed. The onset of action is observed, as a rule, within 5-10 minutes and the decongestant effect lasts on average 6-8 hours after a single use.
Xylometazoline, an imidazoline derivative, is a sympathomimetic with alpha-adrenergic effects. Being a direct-acting alpha-adrenergic agonist with no effect on beta-adrenergic receptors, xylometazoline does not have an indirect sympathomimetic effect through the release of norepinephrine. Due to the structural similarity of xylometazoline and norepinephrine, stimulation of alpha-1 and alpha-2 receptors caused by xylometazoline leads to vasoconstriction. This helps reduce swelling of the mucous membranes and improve the outflow of secretions, which leads to easier nasal breathing.
Sterile isotonic sea water, which is part of the drug, helps maintain the normal physiological state of the nasal mucosa, reduces the viscosity of the secretion and normalizes its production by goblet cells of the nasal mucosa, improves the function of the ciliated epithelium, which increases the resistance of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses to introduction of pathogenic bacteria and viruses. In addition, sea water helps to wash away and remove allergens and haptens from the nasal mucosa and reduce the local inflammatory process.
- acute respiratory diseases with symptoms of rhinitis
- acute allergic rhinitis, hay fever
- to improve the outflow of secretions during inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, as well as with catarrhal inflammation of the middle ear associated with colds

Snoop ®, nasal spray 0.05%
Snoop ®, nasal spray 0.1%
The simultaneous use of Snoop ®, tricyclic antidepressants, tranylcypromine-type monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or other drugs that cause hypertension leads to an increase in blood pressure.
Snoop ® should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- in patients taking MAO inhibitors or other drugs that can increase blood pressure
- with increased intraocular pressure
- for severe diseases of the cardiovascular system (for example, coronary heart disease, hypertension)
- with pheochromocytoma
- for metabolic disorders (for example, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus)
- for porphyria
- with prostate hypertrophy.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of the drug. Snoop ® should not be used for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor. Repeated use is possible only after a break of several days.
Patients with chronic rhinitis can use the drug only under medical supervision, due to the risk of developing atrophy of the nasal mucosa.
With prolonged use and/or overdose, reactive hyperemia of the nasal mucosa may develop, which leads to narrowing of the airways (the “rebound” phenomenon). The consequence of this is the development of chronic drug-induced rhinitis, which can lead to atrophy of the nasal mucosa.
The duration of treatment in children is determined by the doctor.
Features of the effect of the drug on the ability to drive a vehicle or potentially dangerous mechanisms
Symptoms: anxiety, agitation, hallucinations, convulsions; decreased body temperature, lethargy, drowsiness, coma; miosis, mydriasis, increased sweating, fever, pallor of the skin, cyanosis, nausea and vomiting, tachycardia, bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, palpitation, hypertension, shock-like hypotension, pulmonary edema, respiratory depression and apnea, mental disorders. After overdose, especially in children, central nervous system symptoms (including convulsions and coma), bradycardia, apnea and hypertension, followed by hypotension, often predominate.
Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of sorbent (activated carbon) orally, laxatives, if necessary, antihypertensive therapy (non-selective alpha-blockers), symptomatic therapy.
Release form and packaging
15 ml of the drug in a polyethylene bottle with a spray valve.
1 bottle, along with instructions for medical use in the state and Russian languages, is placed in a cardboard pack.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºС.

Release form and composition
Snoop is available in the form of a spray for nasal use: a colorless transparent solution [15 ml (150 doses) in a polyethylene bottle with a spray system, 1 bottle in a cardboard box].

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Snoop is a local vasoconstrictor with alpha-adrenomimetic activity. Xylometazoline helps to narrow the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, relieves swelling and eliminates hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, which leads to rapid relief of nasal breathing. The patency of the nasal passages is restored within a few minutes after using the drug.
Sea water tends to improve the function of the ciliated epithelium and normalize the production of mucus in the goblet cells of the nasal mucosa. Its presence in the composition of the drug helps maintain the natural physiological state of the nasal cavity.
The duration of action of the drug is several hours.
Pharmacokinetics
The absorption of xylometazoline when applied topically is very low; modern analytical techniques do not allow determining its concentration in the blood plasma.
Indications for use

“Snoop” for children: at what age can it be used and how to use it
Copious nasal discharge is a common phenomenon in childhood and the most common disease in the world. They usually begin the manifestation of colds, allergies, and various inflammations of the nasal sinuses. Children suffer from a runny nose much worse than adults. This is especially true for very small children who cannot yet clean their nose on their own by simply blowing their nose. A common consequence of rhinitis in children is swelling of the nasal mucosa, otitis, cough and inflammation of the upper respiratory organs due to the fact that the mucus is not excreted, but flows down, accumulating in the trachea, bronchi, or enters the ear canal.
Babies are especially bothered by copious nasal discharge while they are sleeping. Therefore, a runny nose should be treated and the child should be helped to unblock breathing by rinsing the nasal passages and instilling vasoconstrictor drugs.
We will tell you more about one of these drugs - Snup nasal spray - below.
In particular, you will learn the answers to the following questions: can Snoop be used by children under one year old, at what age is the spray prescribed, how to use the bottle correctly and what are the contraindications to spraying this medicine.
Composition and pharmacological properties
Children's nasal spray contains the following components:
- the main active ingredient is xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.5 mg);
- additional substances - sea water (250 mg), purified water (754.35 mg), dihydrogen phosphate K (0.45 mg).
The drug is considered a drug used topically as a vasoconstrictor - it constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, leading to a reduction in swelling and restoring the capacity of the nasal passages, unblocking breathing.
Release form, packaging
The spray is produced in Germany. It is a clear, colorless liquid, packaged in a polyethylene bottle equipped with a valve for spraying. The bottle capacity is 15 ml, which is enough for 150 doses. The bottle is sold in a cardboard box.
You can buy it in pharmacies without a prescription. The unopened drug can be stored for 4 years from the date of release. After unpacking the bottle, the product can be used for 3 months.
Indications for use
Its use can be prescribed during the period when the child is being prepared for rhinoscopy or other methods of examining the insides of the nose.
Is it possible for children under one year old
Children under one year of age cannot be treated with this nasal spray. The instructions for use clearly indicate at what age you can inject children's Snoop - children from 2 years old.
How to use for children
From 2 to 6 years
Snoop spray (0.05%) is injected into each nasal passage up to 3 times a day. There is no need to inject more than 3 times, this can lead to an overdose.
The step-by-step application of the spray is as follows:
- Remove the cap from the bottle.
- Press the rim of the spray nozzle several times until the liquid begins to spray into the air.
- Sit the child upright with the chin slightly tilted down.
- Insert the tip of the spray into one cleaned nasal passage.
- Press the nozzle rim once.
- Ask the child to breathe air into himself.
- Repeat the same, spraying the medicine into the other nostril.
- Close the cap.
Over 6 years old
According to the instructions, to eliminate excessive mucus from the nose in children over 6 years of age, you need to use Snoop nasal spray (0.1%).
It is injected once into each nostril no more than 3 times a day.
Precautionary measures
Contraindications and side effects
The instructions for use of Snoop (0.05%) for children indicate when the drug is contraindicated to use:
- when the child has not reached the age of 2 years;
- if the baby experiences cases of blood pressure rising above normal or tachycardia;
- if there is a history of illnesses such as glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis;
- if there has been surgery in the area of the meninges;
- if an individual non-acceptance of the components of the drug by the body is recorded.
It is recommended to spray the medicine with caution on children with angina pectoris, diabetics, and those suffering from serious heart disease.
Usually the spray is well tolerated by the child's body, but there may be negative consequences.
The drug may be associated with the following side effects:
- irritation, dryness of the mucous membrane (with prolonged use);
- burning;
- increased secretion;
- sneezing.
Swelling of the mucous membrane, rapid heartbeat, irregular heart rhythm, jump in blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, sleep disorders, and depression are rarely recorded.
With large doses of the drug, all of the above symptoms may occur. If increased doses of the drug were used, the child should be monitored by a doctor.
Rhinitis is a common condition in children. A frequently ill child may experience about 15 runny noses a year. Every parent needs to know how to help their child unblock their breathing. When treating children, it is important not to immediately contact a pharmacist with a request to recommend an effective vasoconstrictor drug, but to visit a pediatrician. It is the doctor who, based on the accompanying symptoms, examination and color of mucus, will prescribe the drug that is most likely to help.
It is important to understand that the etymology of a runny nose can be different, and accordingly, different medications will be required. When using Snoop spray in children, you need to monitor the child’s condition so as not to miss the occurrence of side effects.
