Table of contents:

Widely used in childhood.

What kind of cough is the syrup used for - dry or wet?

Today, more and more people are seeking to undergo treatment with herbal preparations in order to minimize the negative effects of drugs on the body. Therefore, it is easy to explain why Prospan has become a real salvation for children and adults. The herbal medicine contains only natural ingredients, together they contribute to the safe elimination of cough.

Prospan belongs to the group of mucolytics that have an expectorant effect. It can be used for dry, wet, combined cough. Practicality of use is one of the main advantages of the medication. The medicine can be used from the first days of life, during lactation, and while expecting a baby. The manufacturer produces various forms in the form of drops, sachets, and syrup. The active ingredient of the drug is ivy leaf extract. The plant promotes expectorant action, thins mucus and removes it out, and relieves bronchospasm.

The healing power of the composition

The active component of the medicine is dry extract of ivy leaves. Modern technologies and a special recipe help preserve the beneficial properties of the plant without the use of alcohol. Ivy has long been famous for its healing properties regarding its effect on coughing attacks. It effectively eliminates the inflammatory process through an expectorant effect, thinning mucus, and relieving bronchial spasms.

Additional components in the preparation are selected in such a way as to enhance the properties of the plant. Prospan also includes:

  • aromatic anise seed oil, which has a beneficial effect on all metabolic processes in the body, saving from bronchial spasms;
  • fennel oil, which can have a strong expectorant effect;
  • Peppermint has a calming effect, helps eliminate chest pain during dry coughing, and relieves spasms.

Today, most mucolytic syrups contain sugar. The advantage of Prospan is the use of fructose; the medicine can be used by people with diabetes.

How much does Prospan cost?

Prospan has different prices. The price depends on the volume of the drug. The manufacturer produces the medicine in bottles of 100 ml and 200 ml of the product. The cost of the first varies from 450 to 500 rubles, the second – rubles.

The medicine belongs to the middle price category. This cost is explained by the naturalness of the composition and the effectiveness of the medicine, the possibility of its use at different periods of life, at any age.

Contraindications

Contraindications belong to the allergic group, when the components of the syrup can cause a negative reaction in the form of a rash, redness of the skin, nausea, etc. It is not recommended to use the product for patients who have an individual allergic reaction to fructose, mint, ivy leaves, or anise seeds.

Note! Despite the fact that the syrup can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the drug should be used with caution, only on the recommendation of a specialist.

Instructions for use of Prospan syrup

The syrup has instructions for use indicating the recommended dosage and features of taking the medicine. Before using the medication, you should familiarize yourself with the rules for using syrup. They are as follows:

  • The medicine has the maximum effect on an empty stomach, so it is best to take it before meals;
  • For babies under 12 months of age, the manufacturer recommends diluting the medication in a small amount of warm boiled water;
  • if the symptoms of cough have disappeared, you should not suddenly stop taking the medication; you should do this after 2-3 days;
  • The syrup should be shaken well before taking;
  • Prospan is used for no more than a week;
  • The syrup should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 30 days;
  • When the medicine has not been opened, its shelf life is extended to 3 years.

Prospan therapy is possible for both adults and children. The dosage will vary.

For children

Prospan syrup is used from birth. The dosage is calculated based on the age characteristics of the patient. The manufacturer recommends the following regimen for using the drug:

For adults

The amount of the drug depends on the severity of the disease, the type of disease, the patient’s age, and body weight. All aspects of taking the medication should be taken into account together with the doctor.

Side effects

Negative reactions of the drug may be associated with individual intolerance to the components. According to the manufacturer, the syrup rarely leads to side effects. In rare cases, the following manifestations are possible:

Analogs

When it is not possible to purchase Prospan syrup, you can carry out therapy with medications that are part of the same pharmacological group and are similar in composition to the drug. Today, it is possible to purchase syrup analogues at a pharmacy at a more reasonable cost. These include the following medications:

  1. Syrup Doctor Mom. It is also used during attacks of dry and wet cough. It has anti-inflammatory, expectorant, mucolytic effects. Note! Unlike Prospan, it contains sugar, so it is not recommended for diabetes.
  2. Herbion contains ivy extract. The analogue has two forms of syrup depending on the type of cough, dry or wet. There is also a special series for diabetics based on fructose.
  3. Gedelix. The drug is most often used for attacks of dry cough, or with slight difficulty in sputum production. Can be used in childhood, pregnancy and lactation with caution. Fructose based syrup.

Syrup "Prospan" for children: instructions for use

If a child suffers from a dry, debilitating cough and has difficulty coughing up mucus, which worsens his condition and interferes with sleep, parents try to help the baby as quickly as possible and eliminate such an unpleasant symptom with the help of expectorants. At the same time, you want to give your baby a safe and at the same time effective medicine, so they often resort to herbal remedies, one of which is Prospan.

To prevent the child from protesting against the medicine, it is released in the form of a tasty syrup. How does it affect the respiratory system, in what dosage is it prescribed to babies, is it allowed for infants and what analogues can it be replaced with?

Release form

Prospan syrup is produced by the German company Engelhard Arzneimittel in dark glass bottles containing 100 or 200 ml of a slightly cloudy light brown thick liquid that smells like cherries. For convenient and accurate dosing, there is an additional plastic dispenser cap on top of the bottle.

In addition, there is a portioned version of the syrup called Prospan sachet. This is a box with 21 sachets of 5 ml of medicine each. In addition to syrup, Prospan is also available in drops. In this form, the medication is not only given to the child to drink, but is also used for nebulizer inhalations, diluted with clean water 1:2. Prospan does not have any other forms (capsules, tablets, ampoules, etc.).

Compound

The action of Prospan is due to the extract obtained from the leaves of climbing ivy. It is presented in the medicine in the form of a dry extract at a dose of 7 mg per 1 milliliter of syrup. One serving package of Prospan sachet contains 35 mg of extract. To obtain the extract, 30% ethyl alcohol is used, but during the drying process of the raw material it completely evaporates.

To ensure that the medicine is liquid, sweet in taste and does not deteriorate during storage, xanthan gum, liquid sorbitol, potassium sorbate, purified water and citric acid are added to it. In addition to these components, Prospan sachet also contains levomenthol. The pleasant smell of the medicine is due to the presence of flavoring - cherry in syrup in the bottle and orange in portioned sachets. This syrup does not contain sugar, dyes or alcohol.

Operating principle

The biologically active substances contained in ivy extract have the ability to make mucus released in the respiratory tract more liquid, which helps to cough it up. This effect of Prospan is called mucolytic and expectorant.

This syrup also has the ability to reduce spasms in the bronchi, since under its influence the muscles of the bronchi relax. All these effects help to cope with dry cough and speed up recovery from various pathologies of the respiratory system.

Studies have also confirmed the presence of some antimicrobial and antifungal effects in Prospan.

Indications

Prospan is prescribed to children who cough, but the sputum during this cough is too viscous, so it is painful and unproductive. The drug helps with acute respiratory infections, bronchitis, tracheobronchitis, cystic fibrosis, pharyngitis and other diseases. It is indicated for both acute inflammatory processes and chronic diseases.

At what age is it allowed?

Prospan in the form of syrup is considered safe for children and is used even in infants. This remedy can be prescribed to both 6-month-old children and 2-3-year-old children, schoolchildren or older patients. The drug Prospan sachet is prescribed from the age of 6, since the opened sachet cannot be stored.

Contraindications

Taking Prospan is prohibited for children with:

  • fructose intolerance;
  • hypersensitivity to any component of the syrup;
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption;
  • lack of isomaltase/sucrase.

Side effects

Since Prospan's base is herbal, such a medicine may cause an allergic reaction. In addition, in some patients, the use of syrup provokes stool thinning. This side effect is associated with the presence of sorbitol in the drug.

Instructions for use

The syrup is given to the child to drink by pouring it into a measuring cup. Before taking the medicine, you should shake it so that the ingredients that settle to the bottom are evenly mixed. If you use Prospan sachet, knead the sachet with your fingers before use.

If a small child refuses to drink the syrup undiluted, you can add a little non-hot water to it. For the youngest children, it is more convenient to give medicine from a syringe without a needle.

The dosage of the drug in childhood is as follows:

  • If the child is not yet a year old, he is advised to give Prospan twice a day, 2.5 ml.
  • For young patients aged 1 to 6 years, a single dose of syrup will also be 2.5 ml, but this medicine can be taken three times a day.
  • A schoolchild or teenager is given the drug 3 times a day, 5 ml per dose. Over the age of 6 years, you can also use portioned sachets - one sachet at a time.

The duration of treatment with Prospan is influenced by the course of the disease, but the drug is not prescribed for a period of less than one week. In addition, when the symptoms of the disease have already disappeared, it is recommended to drink the syrup for several more days to consolidate its effect.

If on the second or third day of treatment the signs of the disease progress or the condition does not improve, you should contact your pediatrician and choose another medication.

Overdose

If a child drinks a lot of syrup at one time (more than 7.5 ml for children under 6 years of age and more than 15 ml for patients 7 years of age and older), this causes a feeling of nausea, changes in stool or vomiting. In case of such an accidental overdose, the drug is immediately discontinued and the child is shown to a doctor. If the dosage is slightly exceeded (less than three times), no negative effects often occur.

Compatibility with other drugs

Like many other expectorant drugs, Prospan syrup should not be given to children simultaneously with drugs that block the cough reflex. With this combination of medications, the child’s condition will worsen, because the antitussive medicine will make it difficult to separate sputum, which will become liquefied due to taking Prospan. Simultaneous treatment with antibiotics or antiviral drugs is not prohibited.

Terms of sale and storage

In accordance with the instructions, storage conditions are as follows:

  • Prospan in syrup form, like the drug in drops, is an over-the-counter medicine. This means that it is freely sold in pharmacies to anyone who wants it. But if such a medication is purchased for a child, you should first consult a specialist to make sure that it is advisable to take it.
  • The average price of a bottle with a volume of 100 milliliters is rubles, and for a package with 200 milliliters of syrup you need to pay from 700 to 850 rubles. One box of Prospan sachets costs about 540 rubles.
  • The shelf life of this form of Prospan is 3 years, but after opening the bottle it is reduced to 3 months. The shelf life of sealed portioned bags is also 3 years.
  • The recommended storage temperature for syrup is up to 25 degrees Celsius. Since the medicine is sweet and smells good, it is important to hide it securely from small children to prevent an overdose.

During storage, the syrup may become cloudy or its taste may change, but this does not in any way affect its medicinal effect and is due to its plant base.

Reviews

Prospan in the form of syrup receives mostly good reviews from parents. Moms like that the medicine is safe, does not contain alcohol or harmful dyes, very rarely provokes unpleasant side symptoms, and is approved even for the youngest patients. Prospan sachet is praised for its convenient packaging, because it does not need to be diluted or measured with a spoon, but just open the bag and pour the syrup into your mouth.

Most children find the taste of the medicine pleasant and do not protest against this medicine. But the main advantage of Prospan is its fairly rapid therapeutic effect. According to mothers, this drug completely relieves cough after just a few days of use. The disadvantages of the medicine include only a short shelf life and high price.

Analogs

If it is impossible to use Prospan for one reason or another, you can replace it with another ivy-based medicine. Such drugs are:

  • Gedelix. This medication, like Prospan, is available both in syrup (it is given from birth) and in drops (they are contraindicated before the age of 2).
  • Herbion ivy syrup. The concentration of the active ingredient in this drug is also 7 mg/1 ml, however, the manufacturer noted age under 2 years as contraindications.

In addition, instead of Prospan, you can use other herbal medicines that have an expectorant effect, for example:

  • Bronchipret. The extract from ivy leaves in this medicine is supplemented with another plant extract - from the herb thyme. Children are most often prescribed Bronchipret in syrup, because it can be given from the age of three months. However, the medicine is also available in drops, but due to the high concentration of active compounds, this form is prescribed only from 6 years of age.
  • Bronchicum. This honey-smelling syrup acts on the bronchi due to thyme extract. It can be used to treat children from the age of six months. There is also the drug Bronchicum TP, which is an aromatic elixir. In its composition, primrose extract was added to the thyme extract. This medication is prescribed to young patients over 1 year of age.
  • Dry cough syrup. This medicine includes extracts from licorice and marshmallow, as well as anise oil and some other components with anti-inflammatory and expectorant effects. The drug is produced in dry form in bottles or paper bags. After mixing with water, this medication can be given in the dose prescribed by the doctor to a child of any age.
  • Marshmallow syrup. The expectorant, softening and enveloping effect of this medicine is due to the marshmallow root extract. A doctor may prescribe this drug from birth, but due to the high risk of allergies, it is not advisable to give this syrup to babies under one year of age.
  • Pulmex baby. This product is an ointment based on Peruvian balsam and essential oils of eucalyptus and rosemary. This medicine is used to lubricate the chest of children older than 6 months.
  • Syrup Doctor Theiss. The effect of this drug on mucus in the respiratory tract is associated with the presence of plantain extract in the composition. The medication is used in the treatment of children older than one year.
  • Linkas. This herbal preparation with many components is approved for children 6 months and older. It effectively fights the inflammatory process in the bronchi and makes sputum more liquid.

In addition to herbal remedies for dry cough, children can also be prescribed medications based on acetylcysteine, ambroxol, bromhexine, guaifenesin or carbocysteine. Such drugs also have a pronounced expectorant effect, but also have their own contraindications. In addition, some of them are contraindicated for infants or children under 3 years of age.

For this reason, it is best to choose an analogue if treatment with Prospan is impossible together with a doctor.

Dr. Komarovsky will tell you all about cough medicines for children in the next video.

    I’ve been taking it since I was 6 months old, it’s been 3 years now, the flight is normal, I’m not going to change my expectorant. The speed of sputum discharge, both liquid and viscous, is captivating. In general, this is a very problematic issue with a baby, so I’m happy with the syrup. All children are different, of course, it helps us, who have terrible allergies, well, there are no allergies to prospan, there are no side rashes or anything else, so I think it is absolutely safe.

    Such irresponsible mothers in kindergarten bring coughing children to the group! Then everyone gets sick, there is no medicine and there is no health. It’s good that the pediatrician recommended this syrup to us, Prospan, at least it’s herbal without chemicals and cures cough quickly. This is how we are saved.

    I liked the syrup more than prospan inhalations, there is simply no hassle with the inhaler, you drink it when you need it right away and the effect is the same in my opinion. There is simply no analogue as an expectorant; it removes everything perfectly, even old clots in the bronchi. When you try, you’ll understand that I’m burning, everything that’s not needed comes out there, the feeling that “this” has been lying there for years, and it’s only because I overslept that everything came out, and specifically because of the syrup that’s in the glass. The only thing is that I don’t recommend taking inhalations or syrup before bed, unless the doctor has prescribed it, because after it it will be difficult to sleep, not because it is an energy drink, but you just start coughing up everything that it brings out and you constantly want to sit up to clear your throat while lying down It’s hard to spit it all out, so there’s not much time for sleep.

    The most wonderful cough medicine! He helped us in 3 days. Suitable for children from zero and older, even adults. Checked! I treated both of my daughters. It can be used for both newborns and older children. We are happy with the drug, improvements were noticeable already on the second day of treatment, in both children. Pros: tasty, quick cough effect, helps very well, especially against dry cough.

    When the baby had a cough, I decided to treat him with homeopathy, I tried a bunch of recipes, but the cough only got worse. In general, the doctor scolded me strongly and said not to carry out such experiments anymore. I prescribed Prospan syrup, we continued treatment with it, it’s good that I started on time. The child recovered, but I’m glad that his composition is herbal.

    After the New Year holidays, my twins caught a cold. Oh, and I suffered with them. They kept each other awake at night with coughs. They couldn’t clear their throat. I bought Prospan in drops and after 2 days the children began to release sputum. They are generally prone to colds, so they chose the optimal type of treatment for the future.

    We just had treatment with the whole family, it’s just an extraordinary syrup (I bought 200 ml for children), I was captivated by the fact that after this syrup, with a normal cough, some old very dense clots of sputum came out, like lumps, even green-brown , and already at the end of 1 day of admission. Therefore, whoever reads my review, I recommend drinking it the next time you cough, simply to cleanse the bronchi from the old “infection”. Of course, this didn’t happen with the children, but I still managed to quickly cope with the cough, the youngest coughed for 5 days, the eldest for 7, but there was no residual cough either. In general, I bought it for the first time and was surprised why it had not been prescribed to us before. I really liked it and highly recommend it.

    I tried it for the first time, the cough was normal, against the background of a cold (I got my feet wet), there was a lot of phlegm, not particularly thick, but it came out constantly. I bought it myself, no one prescribed it, I just googled it and took 100 ml syrup, which is for children. I don’t know how it is with your strong coughs, mine cleared up in 2 days, but I drank more often than the instructions indicated, I took a single dose 6 times a day, there were no adverse reactions. I liked the taste and the speed of the effect.

    I tried drops in a nebulizer for my son. At first I was afraid of allergies - I need to be more careful with herbal preparations, but I was completely unnecessarily worried. Our son endured both the procedure and the drug absolutely without problems, no allergic reaction, just a long-awaited effect, because he was completely tormented by a dry cough, and to boot. Especially when you go to bed. The drops are used very economically and have a pleasant fennel aroma. Oh, yes, drops are fashionable only from the age of one, as I understand it, because of the small percentage of alcohol content. An excellent German drug, for which you don’t mind paying money.

    I also drank syrup when I was sick and couldn’t clear my throat on my own. It is tasty, slightly caramel aftertaste, not particularly thick, easy to drink, but still coats your throat. It liquefied the cough for 2 days to the point of expectoration without a sore throat, and the cough with phlegm completely disappeared in 6 days. I was coughing, something else irritated my throat, but occasionally there was no more nasty phlegm. I drank for 10 days in total and continued to recover.

    Konstantin: What I liked about the drug Prostanorm: reasonable price, pronounced effect of taking it.

    Valentina: I, too, am all about diet and exercise. I hoped for loads, I thought that my healthy lifestyle.

    Nina: I was on pills for a year and a half, then somehow everything calmed down. Mostly climatefit.

    Elena: With the onset of menopause, the skin completely deteriorated and became dry. I saw a cream for .

    • Shake the bottle a little before use. The product contains natural substances that may cause slight turbidity and sediment.
    • Stop taking the drug two to three days after cough symptoms disappear. If the medicine is stopped earlier, the disease may progress again.
    • The course of taking the drug is no more than a week. If at the end of this period there is no improvement, a re-examination is necessary to determine the possible causes of the symptoms.
    • Store in a cool place for no more than a month if opened.
    • The shelf life of the drug is 3 years.

    In terms of price, the product is in the middle category. How much does the drug cost? The relatively high cost compared to chemical mucaltic preparations is largely due to the content of natural substances. In pharmacies, Prospan syrup can be purchased approximately in the range from $5.4 to $6.1. One course of administration for an adult may require two bottles.

    Reviews

    • Natalya, 53 years old: “We bought Prospan for our granddaughter with bronchitis. Folk remedies no longer helped and we were sent to the hospital. It’s good that the doctor took responsibility and left us at home under her control. We took Prospan along with antibiotics, it helped better than previous remedies. The cough went away in almost a week, and we treated the residual effects ourselves.”
    • Nikolai, 43 years old: “We bought it for our daughter to treat a severe cough, she was even diagnosed with bronchitis. The treatment was complicated by pregnancy, which was already quite difficult for her to bear. Most medications are contraindicated, and home methods did not work. Thanks to Prospan, bronchitis was not confirmed, but the cough went away.”
    • Anna, 24 years old: “The child cut his first teeth according to all the rules of a “horror movie”: high fever, runny nose, restless nights and just a terrible cough. Our local pediatrician recommended a hospital, but we refused for a number of reasons and decided on home treatment. The high temperature was brought down only with paracetamol suppositories, then they smeared the gums with a special anesthetic gel (I don’t remember the name, we bought three of them until we found the optimal one), and “Prospan” helped us with the cough. We eliminated the symptoms relatively quickly, but we waited another three days for the tooth. I made a reminder for myself which product I can continue to use. It’s better, of course, not to need it, but just in case, I’ve already collected a supply of emergency funds.”
    • Vladislava, 35 years old: “As an experienced mother of three children, I go to the pharmacy quite often and have almost become half a pharmacist myself. With my eldest daughter, we had to travel to hospitals and try a lot of medications, so I raised the twins more consciously. Early hardening and walks in any weather helped strengthen the immune system, but, unfortunately, no one is immune from troubles, so my sons and I also got sick, although not so often. I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a new drug, compared to the eldest daughter’s childhood, “Prospan”. He helped us a great deal in curing bronchitis at the age of five months without antibiotics, and in overcoming pneumonia at the age of two (yes, in the hospital, but with minimal losses). The absence of “strawberry, orange or raspberry” taste and aroma was pleasing, as was the natural composition. Our pediatrician also said that Prospan is not addictive, so we only buy it. A good replacement for synthetic substances, and the cost is adequate.”
    • Katya, 28 years old: “During pregnancy I only took Prospan, the painful cough went away in just a week, despite the fact that the period was already quite decent and they even wanted to put it on hold. It’s an excellent product, it has a small list of contraindications and can be taken by children up to one year old.”

    I gave Prospan in syrup form to my daughter. It tastes sweet, so the child drank without problems. At that time we had severe bronchitis, we didn’t want to go to the hospital, we treated ourselves. The syrup helped us a lot. The next night, my daughter slept normally without acute coughing attacks.

    Prospan appeared in my medicine cabinet after I purchased a nebulizer. I had bronchitis and the doctor prescribed Prospan in the form of drops for inhalation. I really liked the procedure itself and the feeling after it. The steam envelops the throat and softens it. The urge to cough decreases. I took inhalations for 6 days and the cough went away. Now the whole family is treated with this remedy. We like.

    Prospan, as it turns out, works great against mucus and phlegm and really clears the airways! The syrup tastes normal, the child drinks, you don’t even need to force it)) after a couple of days the sputum begins to come out, it’s easier to breathe! I recommend!

    At first I drank it myself, I accidentally bought it at the pharmacy, asked for a small package to take to work, the seller gave it in a sachet (small disposable sachets for taking, there are 21 pieces in a pack for just 5-7 days, depending on how hard it is to cough), I started drinking, I really It helped so much from the first day, when I decided to read on the Internet what this thing was - I found out that there is a form for children, I bought it for the child, well, yes, it heals faster than analogues, it expectors well, and the composition is natural, without sugar and alcohol, and it’s sweet and with caramel flavor and natural composition.

    I drink it when I have a cough, it helps very well, if it’s hard to cough up, then you should immediately start treatment with syrup, then from 2-3 days it becomes much easier, and the cough itself is normal, when you clear your throat well, it goes away in 5 days. Children can also use it, on the packaging It is written that it contains ivy, an herb that is essentially a natural remedy. It is sugar-free, but tastes good and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Helps very well.

    - Bronchitis (both acute and obstructive forms).

    — Other inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract with poorly discharged sputum.

    Contraindications

    Despite the natural and safe composition, there are still limitations in treating children with Prospan. Syrup for children is contraindicated for those children who have the following health problems:

    — Severe diseases of the liver and central nervous system.

    Unfortunately, Prospan syrup is not suitable for all children. For a child who is intolerant to certain components of the drug, it is not suitable. Also, the medicine should not be taken in parallel with other medicines that suppress cough. Children under 2 years of age should not be inhaled with this drug, as it can cause laryngospasm and even an attack of bronchial asthma.

    Medicine "Prospan": syrup. Instructions for children and parents

    Most often, doctors prescribe this medication in the form of a sweet solution, especially when it comes to infants.

    Now let’s find out how much Prospan syrup should be given to children. The instructions for children and their parents state that even breastfed babies can be given this medicine. And the dosage of the drug is as follows:

    — Babies under 1 year of age are prescribed 2.5 ml 2 times a day.

    — Children from 1 to 6 years old – 2.5 ml 3 times a day.

    — Children over 7 years old and adults – 5–7.5 ml three times a day.

    The required amount of medicine is measured using a special cup included in the package.

    Before using the product, the bottle with its contents must be shaken.

    It is best to give Prospan syrup before meals. For a child, the course of treatment is usually 7–10 days. And to consolidate the therapeutic effect, doctors usually recommend that after the symptoms of the disease disappear, continue taking the syrup for another 3 days.

    Drops dosage

    The medicine “Prospan” is used in this form for children over 1 year of age. And the dosage of the drug in this case is as follows:

    1. Children aged 1 to 3 years are given 10 drops 3-5 times a day.
    2. Children from 4 to 7 years old – 15 drops up to 5 times a day.
    3. Children over 7 years old and adults – 20 drops 3-5 times a day.

    Carrying out inhalations

    And to inhale the drug “Prospan” you need to equip yourself with a device for spraying without heating - a nebulizer. For such therapeutic therapy, the drug described in this article must be diluted with saline in the correct ratio (usually 1:2, but for children the doctor may prescribe a different dosage - 1:1, that is, it will be equally divided). Inhalations should be carried out on average 3 times a day, but can be increased up to 5 times a day.

    How much does the medicine “Prospan” (for children) cost? The price of the drug depends on the form in which the medication is prescribed. If in the form of syrup, then for 1 jar of 100 ml you will have to pay from 250 to 350 rubles. And the average price of this medicine in drops (bottle volume 50 ml) is approximately 180–250 rubles. Despite the fact that the syrup is somewhat more expensive, it is the one that is bought the most. And all because it has a lower age limit than drops.

    Parents' opinions

    For the most part, positive responses from moms and dads are heard about the drug “Prospan” for children. This product receives positive reviews due to its excellent composition, which has no place for preservatives, flavors, or dyes. Parents are not overjoyed at the naturalness of the medicine. And, of course, mothers will grab this medication because of its effectiveness. In children, a dry cough very quickly turns into a wet one, and soon it goes away completely.

    The parents also thank the manufacturers for taking care and releasing the medication in two forms: drops and syrup. There are children who are reluctant to drink even a sweet medicinal solution. But droplets that need to be diluted with water can be consumed without problems. And by the way, if you do inhalations using the drug “Prospan”, then the syrup will not be suitable for this case. This is where you will need the drops. Therefore, if manufacturers produced the medicine in the form of syrup, then inhalation would no longer be possible. And so, at the choice of the parents and at the discretion of the treating doctor, the drug is purchased in the required form.

    And the syrup is mainly prescribed for small children and infants.

    Despite the fact that the medicine has a lot of positive feedback, there are still negative opinions about the drug “Prospan” for children. Negative reviews are associated with the occurrence of allergic reactions in children, in some cases the appearance of diarrhea. However, this is an individual intolerance to the medicine; no one is immune from this. And if the mother did not know before that the child had an allergic reaction to fructose, then this is a problem for the parent and her child, but in no case for the medicine itself. And if a parent knows that his child has an intolerance to certain components of the drug, then it is better not to give syrup or drops to his baby.

    Medicine "Prospan" for children: reviews from pediatricians

    According to doctors, this medication is universal because it is suitable for all family members. Doctors praise this remedy for its wide spectrum of action (it can be taken orally, as well as inhaled with it), and experts are also confident that in many cases you can get by with just this drug, without combining several different formulations. In addition, doctors note that both the syrup and the Prospan drops are safe: there are practically no side effects, and if they exist, they occur very rarely in patients.

    Storage conditions and features

    The medicine should be stored at room temperature, away from children, so that they cannot inadvertently or out of curiosity take out the jar. The shelf life of the drug is 4 years from the date of production, and after its expiration you should get rid of the medication.

    Parents should pay attention to this feature of the medicine: during its storage, a light cloudy sediment may appear at the bottom of the bottle - this is a normal phenomenon that is caused by the characteristics of the raw material, and therefore this does not affect the effect of the drug in any way.

    Now you will know exactly what remedy you should run to the pharmacy for if your child suddenly develops a dry or wet cough. Prospan syrup or drops will be a salvation for your family, since the natural composition of the drug really works wonders: in a short time, the mother, and the baby himself, forget about the disease and continue to enjoy life. But first, consult your pediatrician about treatment!
