The instructions for use describe the drug Collargol as approved for use in adults and children.
The required dosage form and the concentration of silver in it are prepared directly in the pharmacy.
This is done in order to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect of the drug.
Collargol is produced in several dosage forms intended for different therapeutic purposes:
- Powder. The initial form of the drug from which all further forms are made.
- Eye drops - 2%, 3% and 5%. As a rule, they take the form of a clear solution with a slight odor and are sold in a special bottle made of darkened glass.
- Ointment 5% and 15%.
- Solution for external use - 0.2%, 1% and 2%.
The composition of the drug Collargol, instructions for use, describes two main components:
According to the instructions for use, in addition to the above-mentioned components, the product also contains other components, but their concentration is not clinically significant.
Collargol, due to its antiseptic properties, is used in the treatment of many diseases from various fields of medicine:
- Otolaryngology:
- Inflammation of the nasal mucosa - rhinitis (aka runny nose), its purulent forms.
- Proliferation of adenoid vegetations and their inflammation (adenoids).
- Ophthalmology:
- Conjunctivitis, including the purulent form - blenorrhea.
- Chronic inflammation of the lacrimal sac - chronic. dacryocystitis.
- Surgery:
- Festering wounds, including post-operative ones.
- Boils.
- Erysipelas - erysipelas.
- Inflammation of lymphatic vessels and nodes - lymphangitis and lymphadenitis.
- Inflammation of the rectal mucosa - proctitis.
- Urology:
- Inflammation of the bladder - cystitis.
- Inflammation of the urethra - urethritis.
- Venereology:
- Chancroid.
Nasal drops and Collargol solution exhibit their therapeutic effect due to their pronounced antiseptic and bactericidal properties, as well as the ability to reduce mucus secretion. According to the instructions for use of Collargol, the bactericidal property of this product is due to the ability to adsorb (“stick”) to the outer surface of the bacterial cell and disrupt its normal functioning.
In this case, the bacterium remains alive, but can no longer reproduce and have a pathogenic effect. Further, penetrating through the membrane of the cell wall, silver ions inhibit (reduce the activity) of certain enzymes necessary for the normal functioning of many processes, including the respiratory chain. As a result, the bacterial cells gradually die.
In most cases, Collargol solution exhibits a sufficient level of antiseptic activity necessary for complex treatment of the patient. Summarizing the reviews of patients and doctors prescribing the drug, we can say that it shows maximum effectiveness in the treatment of conjunctivitis, rhinitis and lymphangitis. Also, judging by the results of treatment, Collargol solution and nasal drops are most effective when used in the early stages of diseases.
There are no special contraindications for taking Collargol in the instructions for use, but it is prohibited to prescribe it in the presence of a hypersensitivity reaction to albumin or silver. Also, despite the possibility of using the drug for children of any age (including newborns), before using it, you must always consult with a pediatrician.
There is no information regarding the effect of the medication on the body of nursing mothers and pregnant women, and therefore only the attending physician should prescribe them. In the instructions for use of Collargol there is no mention of adverse reactions.
However, in rare cases, the following undesirable effects are possible:
- Argyrosis. The reaction of darkening of the skin, provoked by the accumulation of silver ions in them.
- Allergic reaction. Just like other medicines, some people may experience individual intolerance to Collargol solution and drops.
Collargol solution: method of application and dosage
Drops. 2% and 3% Collargol solution for ophthalmological diseases is instilled 2-3 times a day, 2-3 drops per sore eye, directly under the conjunctiva. The therapeutic course averages from 3 to 5 days. For the treatment of otolaryngological pathologies, a 2-5% solution of drops is used, which are instilled into the nose, 3-6 drops 2-4 times a day for 4-6 days. To achieve maximum effect, you should not only strictly follow the instructions for using Collargol, but also first clear the nasal passages of mucus.
Solution. To wash infected wounds, use a 0.2-1% solution of Collargol. Treatment of wounds should be carried out 3-4 times a day until the wound is completely clean. In urology, 1% and 2% solutions are used. Washing is carried out 2-3 times a day throughout the treatment. When treating intestinal diseases, microenemas with Collargol can be prescribed, but in this case it acts only as a component of a multicomponent medicine.
Ointment. In surgery and venereology, Collargol is used in the form of 5% or 15% ointment. It is used directly above the affected area - rubbed into the skin. According to the instructions for use of Collargol, the recommended frequency of use is 2-3 times a day, however, the dosage of the drug depends on the age of the patient:
- In adults - 3 g/day.
- For children - 1 g/day.
Important
Before using the product, be sure to consult with your doctor about the advisability of such treatment and dosage, and also carefully read the accompanying instructions for using Collargol solution.
Collargol (nasal drops): mechanism of action, analogues and prices
Collargol is absorbed into the blood in small quantities, so when this drug is used together with other medications, no adverse reactions occur. Before instillation into the nose, it is contraindicated to mix Collargol with other drugs for local effects on the mucous membrane of the nose and throat.
This medicine can only be purchased at a pharmacy, where a pharmacist can prepare a solution of Collargol for instillation into the nasal cavity. This is due to the fact that the original form of Collargol is a powder that dissolves in water to a certain concentration. The doctor must write a prescription for the drug indicating the required concentration. Collargol (nasal drops) is prepared according to a prescription due to its short shelf life.
The average cost of Collargol in Russian pharmacies ranges from 180 to 200 rubles.
Collargol analogues can be divided into two groups:
The only structural analogue of Collargol solution is the drug Protargol. They are similar in composition, but the percentage ratio between silver ions and albumin is different. Collargol contains more than 10 times more silver, which is why it has a more pronounced antiseptic effect.
When treating various pathologies, Collargol solution or nasal drops can be replaced with other agents from the group of antiseptics:
- Betadine.
- Diamond green.
- Iodoform.
- Salicylic ointment.
- Chlorhexidine bigluconate.
- Zinc ointment.
It is highly not recommended to replace the Collargol prescribed by the doctor yourself with another remedy. Most patients note a high level of effectiveness of the drug, subject to the dosage and other prescriptions of the attending physician.
Only a small proportion of patients (less than 5%) report an insufficient therapeutic effect from the use of the solution. An even smaller proportion of people (2-4%) complain of adverse reactions that are not contained in the instructions for use of Collargol.

In continuation of my first message in this thread, there are additions!
. I started having problems when I was about 3 years old, and you know what seems strange to me? Something started to get in the way in the rectum after taking Phlebodia 600!! I took phlebodia for prostatitis, the urologist advised me to avoid congestion. I took courses for 1 month, then a break, then another 1 month! So after Phlebodia, something started to get in the way in the rectum! Lev Karapetovich, can you evaluate and comment on this? Usually, venotonics are taken the other way around to prevent hemorrhoids! And I clearly remember that it was after Phlebodia that something began to get in the way in the rectum! Or can venotonics not cause hemorrhoids?
And Lev Karapetovich, what can you recommend for the treatment of external hemorrhoids! I know that there are corners in nodes, hardware influence! Thank God there is no blood yet. But as I understood after the colonoscopy, the nodes were enlarged in size, not just one but several nodes. Most likely, due to the fact that there are several of them, the feeling that there is interference in the rectum is constantly very annoying! As I wrote earlier, enemas with chamomile and suppositories with witch hazel do not help.
Maybe there are some other candles?

Collargol - instructions for use, production of collargol and methods of use
Latin name: Collargolum
Active ingredient: Colloidal silver
Manufacturer: Pharmaceutical preparation/
TsKhLS-VNIHFI, Russia, etc.
Condition for dispensing from the pharmacy: Without a prescription
Collargol is a medicine originally produced in powder form. Due to its composition (colloidal silver, albumin protein) it is used as a local disinfectant.
Indications for use
Due to its properties, the drug is used for many inflammatory, including purulent, diseases:
- Persistent runny nose
- Adenoids
- Inflamed tonsils
- Inflammatory, purulent eye diseases
- Inflammation of the lymph nodes
- Purulent wounds
- Ulcers on the genitals caused by the venereal disease chancroid
- For inflammation of the bladder
- For inflammation of the urethra
- Early stages of syphilis.
Please note that pus is an indicator of infection. Read more in the article: causes of pus.
Compound
In its pure form, collargol consists of 70% silver and 30% albumin. Albumin promotes the connection of silver molecules and helps them remain in a free state.
Medicinal properties
The drug has astringent, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties. Relieves swelling, reduces the amount of mucus, dries, and prevents purulent formations. The healing properties are clearly expressed.
The average price is from 110 to 150 rubles.
Release forms
Collargol is produced in the form of plates or powder. It is inconvenient to use the drug in this form, so pharmacies prepare solutions (0.2%, 1%, 2%), drops (2, 3 and 5%) and ointments (15%) based on it. Collargol is highly soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. Collargol solution is thick, dark brown, reminiscent of iodine in color. The smell is balsamic.
And pure powder is used only for the treatment of purulent wounds.
Collargol solution must be ordered at a pharmacy, because... it cannot be stored for more than a month. It is prepared only in special pharmacies.
Collargol is sold without a dispenser, so you additionally need to purchase a pipette.
Mode of application
For diseases of the eyes and sinuses, collargol drops are used. The eye cavity is first cleaned of pus, and the sinuses are cleared of mucus. Adults are given 3% solution, 2-3 drops each, children are given 1.5-2% solution, 1 drop each. Apply this procedure 2 to 4 times a day.
For cystitis and urethritis, installations are carried out with a 1-1.5% solution. Installations for cystitis are carried out using a catheter. They are not recommended for children.
It is possible to use microenemas.
Collargol solution is used to lubricate tonsils and inflamed lymph nodes, and to treat purulent wounds.
Purulent wounds can be treated with collargol powder.
The ointment is also used in the treatment of wounds, lymph nodes and chancroid (ulcers are lubricated).
Treatment is carried out for no more than 7 days.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding
Collargol can be used during pregnancy and lactation. But consultation with a doctor is required! Silver is a heavy metal that can accumulate in the body. Strict standards required!
Contraindications
According to the instructions, the drug has no contraindications. But sometimes there are cases of hypersensitivity to collargol. In this case, it should not be used.
When using the drug, do not forget about its toxicity!
Interaction with other drugs
All forms of collargol can be used in complex treatment, since it is not absorbed into the blood and does not interact with other drugs. But when mixed, when used simultaneously with other drugs, the effect of treatment may decrease. Therefore, reasonable alternation is necessary.
Side effects
A burning sensation may occur when instilling drops. But the burning sensation is short-lived and goes away quickly, within a few seconds.
Overdose
Silver is a heavy metal. Collargol should not be abused, despite the absence of obvious contraindications.
In case of an overdose, silver accumulates in the body; the first sign is a change in the color of the eyes and mucous membranes; they acquire a metallic tint. Intoxication sets in.
Conditions and shelf life
Collargol powder can be stored for up to 5 years.
The solution is stored in dark, tightly closed vials. Store in the refrigerator. The shelf life of the finished solution is short - only 1 month.
Analogs
An analogue of collargol is protargol. Its main active ingredient is also silver. But the silver content in this preparation is significantly less.
Protargol
Pharmaceutical preparation / TsKhLS-VNIHFI, Russia
Protargol is prepared in the same way as collargol, directly in the pharmacy. It comes to pharmacies in powder form. Based on this powder, a solution is prepared, the shelf life of which is 2 weeks.
- Protargol is affordable for everyone
- High efficiency in treatment
- Used in childhood
- Not prescribed for nursing mothers and pregnant women
- Prepared only in special pharmacies
- Possible drug intolerance
- Short shelf life.

Collargol for microenemas for ulcerative colitis
Lev Karapetovich, good afternoon!
Not long ago I was diagnosed with catarrhal proctitis!
They prescribed enemas with chamomile and suppositories with Gamma hazel!
I want to try microenemas with collargol at night
Question: How do you feel about collargol? What if there is harm from it? In your experience, what is its effectiveness? Isn't this collargol a dummy? Does it help all patients? Again, based on your experience.
I would also like to ask you about proctitis, in your experience, what is the fastest and most effective treatment for proctitis? I just think that I already have chronic proctitis, because I have been suffering from it for more than one year. There is no blood, and there is no hidden blood in the stool either.
Topic: Nyaka:
Hi all! I’m most likely with you now: I had a colono performed at a city hospital through an acquaintance - the head doctor said that it was not a colono.
I completed a course of treatment and it became much easier. And in general, compared to how it happens, I got off easy then. Well, yes, there was blood, mucus, a false urge to go to the toilet, but after the course of treatment everything went away without a trace.
In May everything happened again. Blood, mucus. The doctor prescribed enemas with a salofalk tablet because there was erosion from the very edge. It seemed to help, but instead of 10 days I set them to 7. And now everything is new, but worse. Blood is just dripping ((((I go to the toilet regularly, but normal stool is once a day, the rest is just the urge and mucus with ichor 🙁 Now I’ve been drinking Salofalk 2 tons a day for a week, there is no improvement/worsening. I want to start enemas with Collargol. In the pharmacy the solution is 1%, is this normal? Last time I filled the prescription, but I completely forgot the percentage. Now there is no way to see a normal doctor - in our city there are few specialized specialists and those who exist are accepted for a lot of money.
This collargol worries me very much; last time it had an effect.
I’m also wondering how bananas and oatmeal affect our sores? I don’t feel any harm myself, but I don’t want to make it worse.
My hair began to fall out even more terribly. I connect with nyaka. Is this real?
Collargol 0 3 microenemas contraindications for the treatment of colitis
Microenema is a necessary and quick aid for those whose body cannot cope with certain painful conditions. It is carried out for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. Unlike cleansing enemas, which are done with a large amount of water - 1.5 - 2 liters in one go, the volume of microenemas is much smaller, from 50 to 200 grams. laxative oil, glycerin, hypertonic; cleansing honey, coffee, starch; softening milk; with chamomile; with evaporated urine; emulsion; microenema Microlax. Anyone who has decided to improve their health with the help of microenemas can choose the one that is right for them. Every external intervention in the body is a little stress for it, because it irritates the intestinal mucosa.
Therefore, in order to take into account the needs of your body and take care of its health, you need to familiarize yourself with information about indications for use and contraindications. You will learn how to do a microenema by reading all the material below. If even some of them are present, you already need to think about restoring the normal state of the body.
They are also used before childbirth and operations, X-ray examinations of the abdominal cavity, digestive tract and colon, if the intestines are heavily clogged with fecal debris and a cleansing enema is needed at home. If there is at least one contraindication, do not try to do a microenema at home on your own, but only when indicated, if necessary, and under the supervision of a doctor! You will need a Janet syringe with a volume of one gram with a tip or, already known to you, a rubber pear-shaped syringe also with a tip. Heated liquid to 37 degrees. How to make a microenema with chamomile? Vaseline or greasy cream to lubricate the tip. When removing the tip, also squeeze the tube. Technique of execution How to do a microenema correctly? a spoonful of steep decoction of wormwood or a teaspoon of garlic. A spoonful of dry chamomile flowers, 200 grams a glass of boiling water.
Lie on your left side, pull your legs bent at the knees towards your stomach. Then, heat in a water bath for 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Then, every other day, reduce the volume of urine, bringing it to 100 ml. Then attach the Janet syringe to the catheter, and then inject the substance contained in it in small portions.
The pressure should not be strong. The treatment procedure is performed before bedtime. To prevent accidental release of fluid, it is necessary to hold the end of the catheter. After the drug has been administered, you should carefully disconnect the syringe from the catheter, and then draw air into it. It heals microcracks in the intestinal mucosa and removes even the most stale and “sticky” deposits from it. Next, reattach the syringe to the catheter and deflate it to inject the remaining fluid in the catheter into the intestines. You can do the same with a rubber bulb if you don’t have a Janet syringe. Only you don’t need to remove the tip when taking it out. The technique is the same as for a honey enema. But just bone broth is no worse than meat broth. Oily. Coffee shop. It should be used for chronic constipation. It envelops and softens the intestinal walls. For this procedure, vegetable oils are used: hemp, olive, sunflower, and vaseline. For one application take ml. The base is milk and ghee.
oil, which is heated to a temperature of 37 degrees.
Acute proctitis
Acute proctitis has a sudden onset, accompanied by fever, chills, tenesmus (false urges) against the background of constipation, a feeling of heaviness in the rectum, and a strong burning sensation in it. Acute proctitis occurs infrequently, but when it occurs, it is severe due to pronounced subjective sensations.
Diagnosis of acute proctitis is difficult due to concomitant sphincter spasm. However, such a spasm of the sphincter (unlike the spasm that occurs with an anal fissure) is easily overcome by inserting a finger generously lubricated with petroleum jelly into the rectum. The mucous membrane appears to be highly edematous and sometimes infiltrated; When a finger is removed from a glove, bloody mucus is sometimes found.
Since proctitis can also accompany a more serious disease, it is necessary to perform a sigmoidoscopy (in extreme cases, postponing it for 5-7 days until the acute phenomena subside).
During sigmoidoscopy, pronounced hyperemia is noted: the mucous membrane is bright red or crimson in color, the vascular pattern is significantly enhanced. Swelling and even infiltration are observed, and sometimes multiple point hemorrhages and superficial erosions.
Proctitis can be limited, affecting only the lowest segment of the rectum (5-7 cm from the anus), but sometimes it spreads to the entire rectum.
Acute proctitis is characterized by sharp pain in the rectum, burning sensation, and frequent urge to defecate. At the beginning of the acute period, the sphincter of the rectum can be spastically contracted, then it relaxes, the anus gapes, the contents of the intestine constantly flow out of it, the urge becomes continuous, the patient quickly becomes exhausted and weakens. The mucous membrane of the rectum is sharply hyperemic, swollen, sometimes prolapses through the gaping anus, and is covered with fibrinous-purulent plaque. With less severe inflammation, proctitis may be limited (for example, with inflammation of hemorrhoids). With proctitis, one or more Morganian crypts may be affected - cryptitis. The latter is observed as an independent process or develops as a result of inflammation of the glandular ducts opening into the crypts, anal fissures formed here, or inflammation of individual hemorrhoids. Limited types of proctitis include inflammation of the internal or external anal papillae.
Treatment of acute proctitis is conservative. First of all, you need a special diet that excludes all spicy, sour, salty and alcoholic drinks, as well as plant-fiber foods.
The only fruit you are allowed to eat is baked apples. All other fruits, berries, vegetables (for example, radishes, green onions, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, cherries, strawberries, grapes) are not recommended to be consumed during the acute period of the disease. Juices, all sweets, and chocolate should also be excluded from food.
The following food ration is suggested. For breakfast - a protein omelet, liquid semolina or rice porridge in water with a small piece of butter, cottage cheese; for lunch - meat or chicken broth, pureed vegetable soup, boiled meat minced through a meat grinder, chopped chicken cutlets, boiled fish, weak cranberry jelly; for dinner - liquid porridge in water with a small amount of butter, steamed low-fat cutlet, cottage cheese with sour cream.
During the day you need to drink a lot of tea (5-6 glasses), barely sweetened (no more than 4 pieces of sugar per day). The bread is only white, stale.
If the general symptoms are pronounced (high fever, chills, headache), antibiotics are prescribed orally (chloramphenicol or tetracycline, one tablet 4 times a day) and pyramidon (one tablet 3-4 times a day). If local symptoms predominate (burning in the rectum, tenesmus and itching), you can limit yourself to local treatment only.
During the first week, due to the fact that due to pain and inflammation, bowel cleansing does not occur completely, and repeated bowel movements aggravate the disease, you should induce stool daily using a chamomile enema (using laxatives is not recommended). For this purpose, 8 teaspoons of chamomile are poured into 4 cups of boiling water, the infusion is steamed over low heat for 10-15 minutes, then left in a tightly closed container for another hour and filtered through cheesecloth (temperature - 25-27°C).
A cleansing enema should be given in the morning. Before insertion into the rectum, the tip should be generously lubricated with Vaseline or warm refined sunflower oil. The rubber tube from the enema mug to the tip (including it) is filled with a solution - no air should enter the intestine.
The enema is given with the patient positioned on the left side. The height of the enema mug relative to the patient is approximately one meter. Please note: the solution should flow into the intestine smoothly, without jerking.
After cleansing the intestines (for therapeutic purposes), a warm (36-37° C) microenema (100 ml) from the same chamomile infusion is given for one hour.
At night, a microenema (50-100 ml) of warm (36-37° C) refined sunflower oil is also injected into the rectum for one hour (you can boil regular sunflower oil in a water bath).
Starting from the second week, medicinal chamomile enemas are replaced by enemas (100 ml) from a collargol solution (the concentration of the solution, depending on the intensity of the process in the intestine, ranges from 0.3 to 0.5%).
It must be remembered that the collargol solution decomposes quickly. Therefore, it should be renewed after 4-5 days, stored in a dark place at room temperature, but not in the refrigerator. Before use, the solution does not need to be diluted and should not be heated.
Microclysters from oil must be continued. In addition, it is good to use general baths (36-38°C).
One course of the described treatment lasts two weeks. Then, after a ten-day break (even if the manifestations of proctitis have completely disappeared), it is recommended to repeat it.
Diet expansion must be done very carefully. Spicy, salty, sour foods, canned foods and alcoholic drinks should not be consumed for at least another 3 months. The first, even minor, violation of the diet can lead to a relapse of the disease.

Application of Collargol
The drug Collargol is an antimicrobial agent that is produced on the basis of colloidal silver. The drug has a bactericidal effect, also relieves inflammation, and has an astringent effect. The drug is used in the form of a solution of different concentrations, which is prepared directly in the pharmacy; an ointment can also be prepared based on Collargol. In the pharmacy you can find Collargol 2 and Collargol 3, which indicates the concentration of the solution: 2% and 3%, respectively). In the form of drops and ointments, this drug is used to treat purulent conjunctivitis and blenorrhea. Drops are used in the treatment of purulent rhinitis, enlarged adenoids and runny nose. Collargol-based ointment is used for inflammation of the lymph nodes, chancre, boils, and erysipelas. Collargol solution is also effective in the treatment of urethritis and cystitis. It is worth noting that purulent wounds are washed with a solution of this drug.
Collargol solution
Another antiseptic medicine is Collargol; its distinctive feature is that it contains colloidal silver and albumin. The ratio of these active substances in their pure form is: 70% silver and 30% albumin, the role of which is to maintain silver molecules in an active state and bind them together. This drug is not used in its pure form; to use it, you need to prepare a special solution. The drug is available in powder form, which is diluted by a pharmacist to prepare a solution of varying concentrations. In pharmacies, this drug is sold already in the form of a prepared solution. Depending on the disease for which Collargol solution must be used, its concentration is determined. In order to store the drug, the following conditions must be met: the glass jar in which the drug is stored must be made of yellow glass and must also be tightly closed. And of course, you need to store the jar of the drug in a dark place.
Collargol - nasal drops
Collargol disinfectant solution is used in the treatment of various diseases. This is a drug that is made on the basis of silver, is used as an antiseptic, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Depending on the disease, it can be used in the form of a solution or ointment of varying concentrations. They can be used to wash wounds, treat inflammation of the bladder and urethra, and be used in the treatment of eye diseases (conjunctivitis). Therapeutic enemas for nonspecific ulcerative colitis
In the relevant sections, we have already dwelled on the effect of microenemas from solutions of sulfonamides and corticosteroid hormones. For the treatment of nonspecific ulcerative colitis, which occurs in the form of proctitis, microenemas from a phthalazole solution are used (tablets filled with boiled water are administered in the morning and evening). Microenemas made from a 0.3% solution of collargol, which has astringent and bactericidal properties, are widely used. ml of the drug is administered into the rectum immediately after stool and the patient must hold it for at least half an hour. Collargol microclysters are especially indicated during the period of subsidence of acute phenomena. The course of treatment is usually 2 weeks.
Treatment with microenemas made from refined sunflower oil, Shostakovsky balsam, rosehip seed oil, and sea buckthorn oil is successfully carried out. All these drugs are prescribed after the elimination of an acute process in the intestines (30 ml each).
Due to the uncertainty of the causes of ulcerative colitis, the main principle of its treatment should be long-term monitoring of the disease in an outpatient setting and the use of maintenance therapy to prevent relapses.

The use of medicinal enemas
A medicinal enema is a medical procedure based on the administration of medications for general and local action. Its total volume does not exceed 100 ml, so this procedure refers to microenemas. It can be used both for the purpose of introducing medications into the bloodstream system and for the primary treatment of diseases of the intestines, rectum, and anus.
The temperature regime of the administered medications must be in the region of degrees, otherwise the procedure will be accompanied by an act of defecation, which will lead to poor absorption of the medications and failure.
Features of the production
The effect of a medicinal enema is achieved through direct absorption through the walls of the rectum, resulting in a therapeutic effect on a specific body system or organ.
The standard technique for administering a medicinal enema is performed using a rubber bulb or a Janet syringe equipped with a catheter. Varieties of therapeutic enemas are resorptive enemas and standard (local effects).
Types of medicinal enemas
- Emollient (for constipation);
- Relieving pain (has an analgesic effect);
- Astringent (effective for diarrhea);
- Irritating (recommended for loss of consciousness, severe head impacts, blood flushes);
- Anthelmintic (prescribed to expel worms).
Indications for the procedure
This type of enema is indicated for:
- lack of effect after taking laxatives;
- constant constipation;
- infectious diseases of the rectum;
- various diseases requiring the administration of sedatives and hypnotics;
- impossibility of administering drugs intravenously and parenterally.
In addition, local use of a medicinal enema is indicated for inflammation of the sigmoid, small, rectum (the basis of the medicinal mixture is collargol and chamomile alcohol extract), as well as the prostate gland (the active ingredient is antipyrine).
For general use, a medicinal enema is recommended when
- administration of medications is undesirable or cannot be administered orally;
- the patient has liver problems (the administered medications are not absorbed into the liver and do not have a negative effect on it);
- it is necessary to administer a sleeping pill, for example, containing chloral hydrate.
What formulations are commonly used?
Enemas have different compositions. The most commonly used medicines are:
- starch (prescribed to coat the rectal mucosa);
- antibacterial drugs in the form of solutions;
- chamomile (effective for inflammatory processes);
- adrenaline in the form of a mixture (to eliminate bleeding);
- fern root;
- valerian;
- ferric chloride;
- Oak bark;
- zinc sulfate in combination with a solution of lapis;
- marshmallow root;
- poppy heads;
- flax seeds;
- anesthetic solutions;
- glucocorticoids, sulfasalazine (indicated for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis);
- collargol in the composition with oil and antipyrine (for the treatment of proctosigmoiditis);
- potassium permanganate, protargol in the form of weak solutions (for astringent enemas).
Contraindications
- acute pain in the abdominal area of unknown nature;
- inflammation of the rectum, sections of the large and small intestines;
- anal injuries;
- bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract;
- intestinal oncology;
- the presence of protruding hemorrhoids;
- allergic rashes in the anal area;
- prolapse of the rectum, less often - of the large intestine;
- tumor conditions.
Staging rules
The algorithm for performing this medical procedure is as follows:
- The procedure must be agreed upon with the patient.
- The patient is warned in advance about the upcoming manipulation and the features of its implementation.
- The health worker changes into a clean uniform.
- A hand disinfection procedure is carried out (thorough washing, wearing gloves).
- The medicine is heated, a bulb or Janet syringe is filled with it.
- The place for the manipulation is prepared (the surface of the couch is covered with oilcloth and a diaper).
- The patient is assisted in lying on his left side with his knees bent and pulled toward his stomach.
- The gas outlet tube is lubricated with Vaseline.
- A gauze napkin is treated with petroleum jelly, after which the patient’s buttocks are carefully spread apart, and the anus is carefully examined for the absence of irritation, ulcers, and wounds.
- A gas outlet tube is slowly inserted to a depth of 15 cm into the anus.
- A bulb or Janet syringe is attached to the end of the tube, and the medicine is injected.
- After completing the administration of the medicine, without unclenching, remove the bulb or gas outlet tube clamped with a clamp.
- In order to have the fastest possible effect, the medicine is left inside for a few minutes. The position that is most suitable for absorption of the medicine is lying on your back.
- All manipulation devices are disinfected.
A simple algorithm for performing the manipulation allows it to be done in cases where administering medications by mouth is difficult. With anal administration of drugs, the concentration of active components is actively absorbed by the walls of the mucous membrane and is quickly transported into the blood, exerting a therapeutic effect on organs and systems.
Do not forget that the process of absorption of medicine by the rectal mucosa is much weaker than by the walls of the stomach, so the dose of the medicine for an enema should be slightly larger than during normal administration.
Enemas with a predominance of potent drugs should be done with caution, because there is a risk of poisoning the patient. To avoid negative consequences, medications should be carefully dosed and their administration strictly controlled. If discomfort or complaints occur in the anus, you should temporarily abandon the procedure and conduct an examination.

Collargol
Collargol is a drug that has an anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and astringent (reduces mucus production) effect.
pharmachologic effect
Antiseptic drug.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Collargol must be taken in the following cases:
- For purulent wounds.
- With enlarged adenoids, as well as with prolonged rhinitis.
- With conjunctivitis (a disease characterized by inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye), or with purulent conjunctivitis.
- For an infectious disease caused by streptococci (erysipelas).
- With inflammation of the lymph nodes - lymphangitis.
- For urethritis. Urethritis is a disease characterized by inflammation of the urethra.
- For chronic cystitis. This disease is characterized by inflammation of the bladder.
- For chancre (ulcers on the genitals).
Before using the drug Collargol in the nose (for purulent rhinitis), it is necessary to rinse it with saline solution or products containing sea water.
With proper use of the medicine, you can get rid of a runny nose within a few days. However, you should not self-medicate, and before using the drug, you should consult your doctor.
Collargol for children is allowed to be used from birth. However, the course of treatment and dosage should be discussed with your doctor. If a child has hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (silver, albumin), Collargol should not be taken.
Collargol solution is not used in its pure form, and in pharmacies the drug is diluted with water:
- Collargol solution is used for washing purulent wounds - 0.2 - 1 percent.
- The bladder should be rinsed with a solution of 1-2 percent.
- If a person has erysipelas or lymphangitis, use Collargol solution 2-3 percent.
According to the instructions, Collargol drops are prescribed for the treatment of eye diseases (2-5 percent). If the patient has a runny nose, purulent rhinitis, or adenoids, Collargol nasal drops are also prescribed.
For chancroid, 15 percent ointment should be used.
Contraindications for use
If the patient has an intolerance to the drug or its substances, Collargol should not be used. In addition, the instructions do not indicate the effect of the drug on pregnant and lactating women. Therefore, the decision on the advisability of taking the drug should be made by a specialist.
Side effects
Side effects of the drug Collargol are not indicated in the instructions. However, one should take into account the fact that the antiseptic drug contains silver, which is a heavy metal. For this reason, the drug is poorly excreted and remains in the body for a long time.
A high concentration of Collargol in the body can lead to the development of argyrosis. Argyrosis is a disease accompanied by the appearance of a gray tint on the skin.
In most cases, Collargol for nasal rinsing is not recommended for a long period of time. If, when instilled into the nose, Collargol does not give any effect, and the discharge increases, you must stop using this drug.
Conditions and shelf life
The drug Collargol must be stored in a dark container, in a room protected from direct sunlight. The diluted solution, according to the instructions, should be stored for no more than a month.
The drug must be stored in tightly closed orange glass jars. It is in this case that the medicine will be valid for 5 years.

Medicinal enemas
Medicinal enemas are mainly microenemas with a volume of ml. The temperature of medicinal solutions should not be less than 40 degrees Celsius, otherwise the patient may have the urge to defecate, and the medicine will not have time to be absorbed well.
MEDICINE ENEMAS WITH LOCAL AND GENERAL EFFECTS
Medicinal enemas are usually prescribed for various diseases of the large intestine, for example, for inflammatory processes, erosions, ulcers, as well as for the treatment of inflammation of parenteral tissue and the pelvic cavity. In this case we are talking about so-called local medicinal enemas. There are also general medicinal enemas, which are given to administer medicinal and/or nutrients that affect the body as a whole. Medicines are absorbed into the hemorrhoidal veins and enter the bloodstream, bypassing the liver. This is a very convenient way of administering drugs if it is impossible to administer the medicine in any other way.
Before using medicinal enemas, it is necessary to have a bowel movement, so the patient is given a cleansing enema a minute before the procedure begins.
INDICATIONS FOR THE USE OF MEDICINE ENEMAS
- Inflammatory diseases of the rectum and distal colon.
- Bleeding from the rectum or distal colon.
- Inability to administer drugs parenterally or intravenously.
MEDICINE MIXTURES FOR ENEMA
Most often, the following solutions and mixtures are used for medicinal enemas:
- a solution of starch with enveloping properties;
- chamomile infusion to reduce inflammation;
- solutions of protargol or potassium permanganate - so-called astringent enemas;
- anesthetic solutions;
- mixtures with sulfosalazine and glucocorticoids for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease;
- solutions with antibacterial drugs;
- oils, antipyrine, collargol - for the treatment of proctosigmoiditis;
- mixtures with adrenaline solution - appropriate in the presence of bleeding from the distal colon.
Medicinal enemas are defined for the administration of local drugs (anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiparasitic) or general action (sodium salicylate, analgin, aminophylline, chloral hydrate) through the rectum.
A cleansing enema is given a minute before the medication. After bowel movement, the prescribed medicine is administered into the rectum in a small volume (ml) warm using a rubber balloon or a syringe through a thin catheter!
After administering the medicine, the patient must lie quietly for at least 30 minutes. Drip enemas are used to administer medicinal solutions in large volumes (0.5-2 l). The patient must lie on his back, the procedure lasts several hours.
To prevent the solution from cooling down, Esmarch's mug is placed in a cotton cover, and a bottle of boiling water is placed in the solution. Nutritional enemas are performed in a similar manner.
Administration of a medicinal enema (microclyster):
1. The patient is warned about the upcoming procedure. Since you need to lie down after it, it is better to give the enema at night in the ward.
2. Before administering a medicinal microenema, a cleansing enema is administered.
3. The medicine in the indicated dose is poured into a clean jar and heated in a water bath to a temperature of +37. +38°С.
4. Take the medicine (ml), heated in a water bath, into a Janet syringe or rubber balloon.
5. Place an oilcloth under the patient, then a diaper and ask him to lie on his left side, pulling his legs, bent at the knees, towards his stomach.
6. A rectal tube (or catheter) is inserted into the rectum with a 20 cm rotational movement and connected to a Janet syringe (or balloon).
7. Slowly inject the medicine into the rectum in jerks.
8. Having finished the insertion, clamp the tube with your fingers, remove the syringe, draw a little air into it, connect the syringe to the tube again and, releasing the air from it, push it! remaining medication from the tube into the intestines.
9. Remove the syringe, clamp the tube, and carefully remove the tube from the rectum using rotational movements.
10. The patient is advised to take a comfortable position and not stand up.
