This is a combined drug with bronchodilator and antitussive effects. The unique composition of the medicine allows you to quickly and effectively get rid of cough symptoms.
Composition and effect of the drug
The main active substances included in Broncholitin are ephedrine and glaucine. The first improves airway patency by relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchi. The second component acts as an antitussive.
Glaucine, being a centrally acting antitussive component, does not depress respiration and does not cause drug dependence. Under the influence of ephedrine, the bronchi dilate and stimulate breathing.
The bronchodilating effect of the drug helps reduce bronchial obstruction and improves sputum output. The presence of basil oil in Broncholitin provides a calming, anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect.
The syrup is available in 125 ml bottles. The medicinal liquid has a viscous consistency. The maximum effect of the drug occurs 1.5 hours after it enters the body. Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, the components of the drug are metabolized primarily by the liver and excreted in the urine.
Broncholitin is used to treat dry cough
Indications and contraindications
For what cough is Bronholitin used? This cough syrup is prescribed for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system, accompanied by symptoms such as dry cough (whooping cough, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.).
With a dry cough, Bronholitin will have a double effect: it will alleviate a cough attack by acting on the corresponding center in the brain. But at the same time, there will be no stagnation of sputum in the bronchi, since taking the syrup promotes their expansion, and, therefore, its release will be easier. Regarding the rules of administration, the instructions for the syrup prescribe oral administration of the drug after meals. The course of treatment lasts 5–7 days.
- adults and children over 10 years old – 10 ml;
- from 5 to 10 years – 5 ml;
- from 3 to 5 years – 5 ml.
Adults should take the drug 4 times a day, and children - 3 times. For children from 3 to 5 years old, the syrup must first be diluted with a small amount of water.
Medicinal syrup has contraindications for use. It is not prescribed for individual intolerance to the components of the drug, and is not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
Its use is also undesirable in the first 12 weeks of gestation and during breastfeeding. People with arterial hypertension, patients with thyrotoxicosis, angle-closure glaucoma, and pheochromocytoma should avoid taking this syrup.
For patients with myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease and diseases with manifestations of decompensation, the use of Broncholitin is not recommended. If urinary retention is associated with prostatic hypertrophy, the drug in question is also contraindicated.
The syrup must be taken strictly according to the dosage indicated in the instructions.
What should you pay attention to?
While using Bronholitin, the patient may experience adverse reactions. The effect of the components of the drug on the human cardiovascular system is determined by the appearance of conditions such as increased blood pressure and increased heart rate, and the development of extrasystole.
In rare cases, taking syrup may be accompanied by dysmenorrhea and an increase in libido. Dermatological manifestations may include a rash or increased sweating. Patients with pathologies of the urinary system also need to be careful; in particular, difficulties with urination may occur.
The central nervous system can also malfunction in the form of excessive excitement and insomnia, the appearance of tremors and drowsiness. Since the drug is taken orally, dyspeptic symptoms such as nausea and vomiting and stool retention are possible.
To prevent a negative effect on the central nervous system, you need to distribute Bronholitin intake throughout the day so that the last dose occurs at 16-00. If the patient has a tendency to drug dependence, then the appointment and administration of Bronholitin should be carried out with caution.
If the professional or other activity of a person being treated with Broncholitin involves the need to concentrate, then one must be careful, as visual impairment and spontaneous dizziness may occur.
It is important to know about the peculiarities of drug interactions when taking Broncholitin
As for drug interactions, you need to know which medications cannot be used simultaneously with Broncholitin. In this regard, the following is important:
- syrup can weaken the effect of sleeping pills due to the ephedrine content;
- Ephedrine should not be combined with MAO inhibitors due to the risk of a sharp increase in blood pressure;
- a combination of taking Bronholitin with tricyclic antidepressants and cardiac glycosides can provoke heart rhythm disturbances;
- Concomitant use with beta-blockers can lead to a decrease in the bronchodilator effect.
It is recommended to store the syrup at temperatures up to 25 degrees in a place protected from light. After opening the bottle, the shelf life of the medicine is reduced to 30 days.

Indications for use and rules for taking the drug Bronholitin
Bronholitin, the instructions for use of which contain detailed recommendations for the use of this drug, is one of the medicinal compounds that help ease coughing and gently remove mucus accumulated in the respiratory organs. Bronholitin cough syrup is one of the most effective and safe drugs, the use of which is approved for the treatment of childhood diseases that cause cough. Adult patients with a dry cough are recommended to take tablets, and for children a syrup has been created, the precise dosing of which makes it easier to use a measuring spoon or measuring cup.
Release form and indications for use
The drug Bronholitin, which helps with dry (non-productive) cough and is rarely prescribed for wet (productive) cough, is one of the drugs that does not require a prescription to be purchased from the pharmacy chain. Over-the-counter drugs are much cheaper than those sold strictly according to a doctor’s prescription, and therefore are in high demand among consumers.
The correct use of Bronholitin is explained in the instructions for use.
Here are the details:
- the composition of Bronholitin is described;
- analogues created in the likeness of Broncholitin are listed;
- describes the effect of the drug;
- indications, contraindications and possible side effects are named.
The most popular form of release of Bronholitin is syrup, used as an effective remedy for combating children's cough. This is a high-viscosity liquid with a specific odor and pleasant taste.
The syrup is poured into dark glass bottles or plastic bags, each containing 125 ml of the medicinal composition, the main active ingredients of which are ephedrine and glaucine hydrochlorides. The choice of dosage and rules of administration depend on the type of cough and the age of the small patient.
The description of Broncholitin for children contains information about the inclusion in the composition of the drug of such additional components as:
- ethanol and purified water;
- nipagin and nipazole;
- polysorbate and citric acid.
The softening effect is provided by basil oil, which is part of the Broncholitin syrup. It also gives the medicine a specific, unique smell.
The main active substance is ephedrine, which has a vasoconstrictor effect and stimulates the respiratory function. It helps eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane, which allows the patient to breathe easier and more freely.
Listing the indications for the use of this drug, acute and chronic inflammatory processes should be mentioned:
- in the bronchi and trachea;
- in the upper respiratory tract;
- in the lungs.
Taking Bronholitin is indicated in the presence of bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis and whooping cough. This medicine is prescribed for a nonproductive cough, but it is often very effective in treating other diseases. This quality allows Bronholitin to be used as an additional agent in the complex treatment of respiratory diseases. The drug enjoys the well-deserved trust of doctors and patients who, with its help, got rid of viral and infectious diseases of the respiratory tract. It is successfully used in the treatment of colds and allergic coughs. With its help, you can quickly and effectively stop an attack of bronchial asthma.
Contraindications and side effects
As for adult patients, the use of the drug Bronholitin is not recommended for nursing mothers and people suffering from hypertension, but the following are absolute contraindications:
- Coronary heart disease and heart failure.
- Organic diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels.
- Thyrotoxicosis.
- Prostate adenoma.
- Pheochromocytoma and angle-closure glaucoma.
- First trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
Contraindications for taking Bronholitin are children under 3 years of age and intolerance to the components of the drug.
Taking Broncholitin for cough should be carried out in strict accordance with the dosage prescribed by the doctor. The correct course of treatment is also important. How many days it will last depends on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient. If an individual intolerance to the components of the drug is detected, the doctor will decide what to replace the drug with. Analogues of Bronholitin can also be purchased over the counter in pharmacy chains. Its analogues are drugs of similar action, among which the most effective and popular are Prospan and Bronchitusen Vramed, Bronchoton and Codelac Neo. They are also available in syrup form and do not require a prescription to purchase.
The mechanism of action of these drugs is the same as that of Bronholitin. All of them contribute to the expansion of the bronchi, relieving spasms, liquefying and easily removing mucus from the respiratory system. The attending physician decides how many days it is necessary to take the healing syrup, but in most cases the course depends on the age of the patient.
Admission rules
According to the accompanying instructions, Bronholitin syrup is prescribed and taken in the treatment of many respiratory diseases, but it has proven itself best in the treatment of dry, non-productive cough symptoms, the cause of which can be infections and viruses, as well as various allergens. Despite the fact that Bronholitin syrup can be purchased without a prescription, only the attending physician decides how many times a day to take it and in what quantities.
The instructions say that the daily dose of Bronholitin for wet cough in children aged 3 to 10 years should not exceed 15 ml, divided into three doses. The pediatrician will tell you how long it will take to continue treatment. Parents should not make a decision on their own, given the presence of ethanol in the drug.
According to the instructions:
- Children from 3 to 5 years old are allowed to take Bronholitin three times, one scoop for each dose. This corresponds to 5 ml of syrup diluted with a small amount of warm boiled water. The child should not drink it before daytime or nighttime sleep, so it is necessary to correctly develop a medication dosage regimen.
- From 5 to 10 years of age, Bronholitin syrup is given to children without diluting, but without changing the dosage. It is still 15 ml per day, which children drink in three doses after meals and long before bed.
The medicinal composition is taken only after meals, but how many milliliters per day will be needed to treat a child aged 10 to 14 years is also stated in the instructions, but only the attending physician can determine:
- Whether or not this drug helps the child get rid of the manifestations of the disease;
- for which cough a particular dose will be prescribed;
- how long will it take to drink Broncholitin syrup to eliminate a child’s cough.
In a normal situation, children over 10 years of age are allowed to drink 2 scoops three times a day, but there are certain rules according to which the administration of Broncholitin is not permitted while the patient is being treated with drugs such as:
It is prohibited to combine Bronholitin with antidepressants and psychotropic drugs. These medications are incompatible. Bronholitin can neutralize the effect of some medications, as a result of which its use can provoke an attack of hypertensive crisis, a sharp increase in blood sugar levels. It is important to remember that the effect of the medicine is enhanced when combined with strong tea or coffee, which can cause a negative reaction from the heart muscle.
The ephedrine and ethanol contained in Broncholitin have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, so it is important to monitor the time of the last dose. It is not recommended to take the medicine immediately before bedtime (insomnia may occur).
It is often used in conjunction with bronchodilators to relieve allergic airway inflammation. In the presence of infectious diseases of the respiratory system, Bronholitin is prescribed simultaneously with antibacterial drugs. It combines well with various antipyretics and analgesics. Treatment with Bronholitin is not contraindicated when undergoing a course of vitamin therapy.

For which cough is broncholithin
Cough is one of the most common signs of respiratory disease. It occurs when the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract (larynx, trachea, bronchi) and lung tissue becomes inflamed, as well as when dust, caustic gases, tobacco smoke, liquids, etc. enter the respiratory tract. Cough can be of allergic origin. Sometimes a cough occurs during anxiety or emotional stress.
Quite often, especially in childhood, cough is combined with a broncho-obstructive component, which aggravates the patient’s condition and significantly lengthens the recovery period. Obstructive syndrome is caused by hyperplasia and infectious-inflammatory edema of the bronchial mucosa, impaired motility of the bronchioles, and decreased mobility of the secretion due to its increased viscosity and low level of surfactant.
The need to treat the cough itself, i.e., to prescribe so-called antitussive therapy, arises mainly in the presence of an unproductive, dry, obsessive cough.
Considering the polyetiology and polypathogenetic nature of cough, the most optimal solution to this problem is the use of complex drugs that combine antitussive and bronchodilator effects. These properties are fully inherent in the drug "Broncholitin", the only supplier of which to Ukraine is the Bulgarian company "Sopharma".
The complex effect of the drug is due to the properties of its main components. Glaucine hydrobromide, ephedrine hydrochloride, and basil oil contained in the drug help suppress the cough reflex (without respiratory depression), reduce bronchospastic phenomena, and have secretolytic, antiseptic and antispasmodic effects.
Glaucine hydrobromide is an alkaloid of yellow grass (Glaucium flavum) and belongs to the group of centrally acting antitussives that suppress the function of the cough center of the medulla oblongata. Glaucine has a non-narcotic antitussive effect in combination with an analgesic, sedative and, as a rule, weak antispasmodic effect. Unlike codeine, it does not depress the respiratory center or suppress intestinal motor activity; with long-term use does not cause drug dependence or addiction.
Ephedrine hydrochloride is an indirect-acting sympathomimetic. It causes the release of norepinephrine from the depot and excites α- and β-adrenergic receptors. Moderately inhibits monoamine oxidase. Reduces swelling of bronchial tissues, causes constriction of arterioles, increasing blood pressure; improves atrioventricular conduction; increases heart rate. Stimulates excitation processes in the central nervous system and increases the excitability of the respiratory center.
Basil oil has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and secretolytic effects.
A special feature of the drug is its good tolerance by patients and full compatibility with antibacterial, antiallergic, antipyretic drugs, vitamins, immunocorrectors, which ensures the effectiveness of therapy for the above diseases.
The drug is used in adults and children over 3 years of age for the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, tracheitis, in the complex therapy of bronchial asthma, chronic nonspecific lung diseases, bronchiectasis, pneumoconiosis, etc.
The release of the drug in the form of syrup makes the drug convenient for use in pediatrics. The drug can be used by car drivers and persons whose work requires an increased speed of mental and physical reactions.
Application: adults - 10 ml of syrup orally 3-4 times a day; children from 3 to 10 years old - 5 ml 3 times a day, over 10 years old - 10 ml 3 times a day.
Since the drug has a weak stimulating effect on the central nervous system and can disrupt sleep, it is more advisable to use it in the first half of the day.
Broncholitin is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries, angina pectoris and hyperthyroidism.
It is not recommended to take the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy and during lactation.
When using Broncholitin, it should be remembered that its use is justified only in the absence of pronounced changes in the mucosa of the lower sections of the bronchial tree, since the ephedrine included in it “dries out” the bronchial mucosa and slightly increases the viscosity of bronchial secretions.
The cardiovascular system is affected by two main components of the drug - ephedrine and glaucine, which have an antagonistic effect. Ephedrine increases heart rate and blood pressure, and glaucine reduces these indicators. However, the use of the drug in hypertensive patients should be carried out under medical supervision.
Bronholitin is available in the form of syrup in 125 ml dark glass bottles. Each bottle is placed in a cardboard box with the Sopharma JSC brand name and instructions for use.

Use of Broncholitin for cough
Cough is a widespread phenomenon. It is not a disease, it is a symptom of an illness, but not necessarily a cold. There is a smoker's cough, an allergic cough, and it also occurs with pneumonia. Only after establishing the cause can you select a drug. The doctor’s task is to soften this reflex action to remove sputum. Bronholitin syrup is a drug that is quite widespread and recommended by doctors for the treatment of dry cough.
Composition and release form
The syrup is sold in dark glass bottles and is a semi-viscous liquid. The bottles are packed in cardboard boxes, inside of which there is a measuring cup or spoon.
The color of the syrup can have different shades: from light yellow to brown. Bronholitin has a somewhat unusual smell, since it contains basil oil, and the taste is slightly sweet. 5 g of syrup contains the following compounds:
- 5 mg glaucine hydrobromide;
- 4 mg ephedrine hydrochloride;
- basil oil
The composition includes auxiliary components:
The medicine is also produced and sold in tablet form. Cough tablets Bronholitin 10 and 40 mg are coated with a pink coating. One package contains 20 tablets. Their composition is the same as that of syrup.
The main effect of the drug is antitussive and bronchodilator. The composition contains glaucine hydrobromide, a substance of plant origin that suppresses the cough center through the nervous system. In addition, it relieves pain, reduces inflammation and relieves bronchospasm.
The use of ephedrine in the composition activates breathing processes and relieves swelling in the bronchial mucosa. Has the ability to stimulate the respiratory center. Basil oil has additional beneficial properties, acting as a sedative and anti-inflammatory component. The drug is quickly absorbed and excreted in the urine.

Since cough is a manifestation of the disease and its symptom, why fight it? Maybe there is no need for antitussive drugs at all, even such popular ones as Bronholitin?
The airways must be passable; we need a breath of air constantly. But if the airways become narrowed or clogged during a cold, then a natural cough reflex occurs. This is a response to irritation of the respiratory mucosa caused by microorganisms, gas pollution, and smoking.
By coughing, the body tries to remove harmful, irritating factors from the lungs. A productive cough, which removes phlegm with harmful components, is useful and does not need to be dealt with.
But dry coughing is unproductive, leading only to a worsening of the condition and leading to pain or vomiting. Exhausting “thumping” is dangerous; it causes disruption in the functioning of many body systems. At the same time, Bronholitin for cough is a real godsend. It will help when the mucus does not come away at all and the “barking” reflex becomes painful.
Relief occurs almost immediately after starting to take the drug: attacks become less severe and sputum begins to leave, the mucous membranes are freed from irritating effects.
In what cases is Broncholitin syrup used?
Syrup is important in the treatment of respiratory organs when the disease is accompanied by a dry cough. It becomes soft and then gradually goes away. There is no addiction because the drug is not used for long, but the downside is the increased alcohol content.
The syrup is suitable for adults and is approved for children over 3 years of age. Since the composition is chosen correctly, the effect of the syrup is quite mild: it reduces the cough reflex and softens the contents of sputum.
Bronholitin cough syrup will help in the treatment of a number of diseases associated with the respiratory system:
- acute inflammatory processes in the trachea and bronchi,
- various forms of bronchitis and bronchial asthma,
- pneumonia,
- severe cough with whooping cough,
- acute respiratory infections and acute respiratory viral infections,
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (restriction of air movement in the respiratory tract).
By prescribing Bronholitin, the doctor aims to improve sputum discharge, reduce swelling and remove spasms in the bronchi, and facilitate breathing. It is not advisable to use Bronholitin for wet coughs: in case of viscous sputum, you need to use the drug to further thin it. Also, the medicine should strengthen the cough reflex so that accumulated mucus comes out faster.
Store the drug at room temperature (+20 – +25C). Freshly prepared drug is stored for 4 years, but the expiration date should be checked by looking at the packaging. After opening, the medicine can be used for a month. It cannot be frozen.
Drug dosage
When taking tablets, the adult single dose is 40 mg 2-3 times a day; in severe cases, the single dose is increased to 80 mg. Instructions for use of Broncholitin syrup for children from 3 years of age include taking 10 mg 2-3 times a day.
The dosage of the syrup is slightly different:
- adults take 10 ml syrup 3-4 times;
- children over 10 years old – 10 ml 3 times;
- children from 3 to 10 years – 5 ml 3 times a day.
Using a measuring cup makes it easy to use the right amount of medicine.
The price of one bottle ranges from 91 to 99 rubles. You can purchase it at this price in a pharmacy chain or online pharmacies. There are usually no difficulties with purchasing this product. The price of the tablets is practically the same and amounts to 100 rubles.
The highest quality analogues of the drug include Bronchoton (Bulgaria), Codelac (Russia). Both dosage forms are available in the form of syrup and have an effect similar to Broncholitin. They are inexpensive. Each of these medications has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Side effects of the drug
The medicine stimulates the action of the central nervous system, so it is undesirable to take Bronholitin after 16:00, as it can cause insomnia. Use with caution in case of drug dependence, after consulting with your doctor.
But the side effects of the drug are not limited to this. It also has other negative sides. The syrup affects:
- on the cardiovascular system, causing tachycardia, extrasystole, high blood pressure;
- on the central nervous system, which manifests itself in the form of tremor, agitation, insomnia, and childhood drowsiness;
- on the senses, affecting the organs of vision;
- on the gastrointestinal tract in the form of anorexia, nausea, vomiting or constipation;
- on the endocrine system: increased libido, dysmenorrhea (pain during menstruation);
- on the genitourinary system, causing difficulty urinating;
- Possible reactions of a pediatric nature: skin rashes and increased sweating.
If the cough does not go away 5 days after the start of treatment, but on the contrary intensifies, the general condition becomes worse, you should discuss with your doctor the possibility of further treatment with this remedy.
In what cases is the drug contraindicated?
Bronholitin for dry cough is prohibited for:
- long-term high blood pressure;
- pheochromocytoma (tumor in the adrenal medulla);
- heart disease;
- constant lack of sleep;
- increased levels of thyroid hormones;
- angle-closure glaucoma;
- adenomas are simple (benign formation from the epithelium).
Syrup is not prescribed for those with high sensitivity to its components, children under 3 years of age, women at the beginning of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Please note that the syrup contains ethanol. Therefore, Bronholitin should not be used by a certain category of citizens.
While taking the drug, you should limit any work that requires increased attention or quick reactions to the situation. This is due to possible side effects - vision problems or dizziness.
An overdose of the drug is possible if the instructions are violated or if they were not read at all. In case of an overdose, symptoms characteristic of any poisoning occur: nausea and gag reflex, agitation, loss of appetite, trembling of the limbs, increased sweating, dizziness. The use of activated carbon and gastric lavage will help. It is better not to do these manipulations yourself, but to consult a doctor.
The drug has proven itself well in the treatment of adults and children, as evidenced by reviews:
Elena, 35 years old: I got sick in winter and started coughing. I didn’t get treatment, I thought “it will go away on its own.” Then the “thumping” became painful and annoying. I sent my husband to the pharmacy, where he returned with Bronholitin. The pharmacists said it was a very good remedy. Indeed, after 3 doses the cough weakened, and after 3 days everything began to go away (cough). Gradually I felt like a human being. I recommend!
Marina, 30 years old: My daughter got sick and the doctor recommended Bronholitin. It is not completely natural, it also contains chemicals, but it helped perfectly. We had bronchitis, which we successfully cured while taking medications. Now, as soon as the coughing starts, I run to the pharmacy for a miracle remedy. The price is also quite affordable.
Olga, 41 years old: Prescribed Bronholitin syrup for a 4-year-old child at the hospital. They sold it with a prescription, claiming that the medicine was addictive (it contained ephedrine). Although the syrup can hardly be called natural, it helps get rid of the “barking cough” that simply tears your throat. It helped the child. On the third day, relief came and the endless “thumping” stopped. We took it for only 5 days, which turned out to be quite sufficient.
There is always a small supply of medicine in your home medicine cabinet in case of a cold. Before the season of rains, slush, wind, cold and depression, we check our first-aid kits “just in case”, supplement them with essential drugs and throw away expired ones. And if Bronholitin is in your medicine cabinet, then you can definitely cope with your cough!

How to take Broncholitin
Cough is a common symptom of diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract. Broncholitin is an effective drug for the treatment of this symptom and is widely used in medicine. Patients need to know the indications and contraindications for use, which will help a quick recovery.
About the drug
Ephedrine helps to expand the lumen of the bronchi, constricts blood vessels, thereby eliminating swelling of the mucous membrane. The drug also has a slight calming effect due to basil oil.
For what cough should I take it?
Bronholitin works effectively for dry cough. If you have similar symptoms, then you can limit yourself to tablets. Can Bronholitin be used for a wet cough? Yes, but in such situations only the liquid form is suitable, since it contains ephedrine, which stimulates the production of mucus and reduces its production by the mucous membrane.
Compound
Broncholithin is produced in the form of syrup and tablets. The first form is available in a 125 g bottle, annotation and composition in Russian.
The drug contains 5.75 mg of glaucine and 4.6 mg of ephedrine per 5 ml.
The syrup is yellow in color, has a sweet taste, a characteristic aroma of basil, the oil of which is an auxiliary component of the medicine.
A special measuring cup is included in the packaging of the drug.
Broncholitin cough tablets contain only glaucine in an amount of 10 mg or 40 mg. The medicine package includes 20 tablets. In addition to the main substance, the composition contains auxiliary components: starch, sucrose, cellulose, gelatin, glycerin, macrogol.
Indications for use
Bronholitin is prescribed for the treatment of acute and exacerbations of chronic respiratory diseases of both the upper and lower respiratory tract.
The drug suppresses the cough reflex and improves the removal of sputum from the body. Broncholitin is used for laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and is also prescribed for the treatment of whooping cough.
Contraindications
The drug is not prescribed in case of hyperreactivity reactions to its components. The remaining contraindications are as follows:
- High blood pressure.
- Coronary heart disease, severe heart failure.
- Prostate hyperplasia, especially if this pathology is accompanied by impaired urinary flow.
- Increased intraocular pressure.
- The first 3 months of pregnancy, lactation period.
- Thyrotoxicosis.
- Pheochromocytoma.
- Sleep disorders.
It is important to note that Bronholitin is contraindicated in children under 3 years of age.
Instructions for use
The instructions for using the drug are quite simple, but the drug is sold in pharmacies only with a doctor's prescription. For this reason, it is necessary to consult a specialist who will select the required dosage and duration of use.
Syrup
For adults, Bronholitin in the form of syrup is prescribed 3-4 times a day in an amount of 10 ml. The drug is taken after meals. It is convenient to dose the required amount of the product using a special measuring cup, which is included in each package of the medicine.
Pills
The dosage of tablets depends on the severity of symptoms. The maximum permissible one-time amount of medication is 40 mg, only in especially severe cases 80 mg can be used. Bronholitin is taken twice or thrice a day. The total amount of the drug per day should not exceed 200 mg.
Application for children
It is important to remember that the drug is contraindicated for persons under 3 years of age. Instructions for using Broncholitin syrup for children are very simple.
If a child is from 3 to 10 years old, he should drink 5 ml of the product three times a day after meals. When the patient is over 10 years old, the dosage is identical to that for adults.
As for the tablets, they are not recommended for children under 4 years of age. A single dose should not exceed 10 mg, daily - 40 mg. The drug is taken orally 2-3 times a day after meals.
Over-the-counter analogues
In pharmacies you can buy over-the-counter analogues of Bronholitin. This is extremely convenient in cases where treatment is needed as quickly as possible. Drugs identical in composition to Bronholitin are not available without a prescription; you can purchase products with a similar effect that are not inferior to it in effectiveness.
These include medications whose main active ingredient is ambroxol (Ambrovix, Ambrohexal, Ambroxol, Lazolvan, Halixol). These products are available in tablets and syrup form.
Another analogue is Bronchobrew, which contains ephedrine. Produced in syrup form, available without a prescription, suitable for the treatment of wet cough.
You can also buy Stoptussin syrup. Its active components are butamirate and guaifenesin, which enhance the removal of sputum and have an analgesic effect. For these reasons, the drug can be considered as a substitute for Broncholitin. However, Stoptussin can be purchased without a prescription.
Conclusion
It is important for patients to know for which cough to take Bronholitin and in what dosage. You should also have an idea about its analogues, which are sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. This will help you get rid of cough quickly and effectively, without complications or chronicity of the process.

"Bronholitin": reviews and instructions for use
The cough medicine “Bronholitin”, reviews of which are very often found on the Internet, is rapidly gaining popularity. In order to understand the positive and negative qualities of this product, it is necessary to consider its structure, composition, cost, and possible side effects.
Release form of the medicine
The only form of release of this medication is syrup. “Bronholitin”, reviews of which help determine the choice of treatment method, is intended exclusively for oral administration. 1 gram of the medicine contains 1 milligram of glaucine hydrobromide, as well as 0.8 mg of ephedrine hydrochloride. These substances are the main active ones and help eliminate cough.
Auxiliary components of the medicine are basil oil, which has a softening effect on the tissues of the bronchi and upper respiratory tract, as well as polysorbate, 96% ethanol, sucrose to improve taste, citric acid, water base. For colds, there are no better remedies than aspirin, caffeine, and Bronholitin. Reviews about the complex effect of the above treatments are presented both on various virtual resources and appear in medical therapeutic practice.
Pharmacological properties of a substance are important!
Like the composition of any other drug, the effect of the syrup depends entirely on the main components of the composition.
Thus, the main property of glaucine is the ability to suppress the activity of the cough center. The particular value of the effect lies in the absence of depressed breathing during the treatment process, as well as the impossibility of developing constipation and respiratory barriers.
Ephedrine affects the functioning of the body both directly and indirectly by supporting the functioning of cells. Due to the distribution of this substance throughout the tissues of the body, the bronchi dilate, stimulate breathing, and also eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane of the bronchial lobes due to its vasoconstrictor properties.
The preventive function of the drug rests on a component such as basil oil. Effective antimicrobial effects and the virtual impossibility of further development of the disease contribute to a speedy recovery of the patient. Just imagine: all of the above properties are collected in one bottle under the name “Bronholitin”. Reviews about this drug will confirm its effectiveness and the need to take it during treatment.
Tips for use
The instructions hidden at the bottom of the drug’s packaging indicate that the syrup is intended for the treatment and prevention of a wide variety of respiratory diseases. Moreover, the greatest effectiveness of the product is noticeable when eliminating dry cough. It is worth using “Bronholitin” (instructions for use, reviews, numerous recommendations of doctors on this matter are unanimous) in accordance with the above criteria and advice in the case of:
- the occurrence and development of bronchial asthma;
- manifestations of symptoms of acute bronchitis, as well as exacerbation of chronic diseases
- bronchiectasis;
- prevention of pneumonia;
- whooping cough;
- when chronic lung disease appears;
- in case of acute inflammation of the respiratory tract.
Regulating the dosage regimen
The first rule is to use the drug after meals. It is very important for both a child and an adult that the effect of the drug begins after receiving the required amount of nutrients.
An effective drug called “Bronholitin”, reviews of which are left by both doctors and ordinary consumers, must be dosed in accordance with the patient’s age:
- Children from 3 to 5 years old are recommended to take 5 milliliters three times a day. Due to its small age, it is necessary to dilute the medicine with cooled boiled water.
- Children aged 5 to 10 years are recommended to take the drug three times a day, 5 milliliters.
- Children over 10 years of age and adults need to consume 10 milliliters of syrup 3-4 times a day.
"Bronholitin": reviews. There are contraindications for children and adults
Like any other drug, cough syrup also has a number of contraindications that must be taken into account. These include:
- Cardiac ischemia.
- Arterial hypertension.
- Heart failure.
- Angle-closure glaucoma.
- Severe organic heart diseases and some others.
When prescribing a remedy, the therapist takes into account the presence of any serious diseases and the possibility of their development. You should take Bronholitin with extreme caution (doctors' reviews especially emphasize this) in the first trimester of pregnancy.
If it is necessary to use the drug, it is important to take it with caution in the following cases:
- Development of epilepsy.
- Liver diseases.
- Pregnancy 2nd and 3rd trimester.
- Chronic alcoholism.
- Brain diseases.
The syrup contains a large percentage of ethanol, so the drug should be taken by children under the strict supervision of adults.
"Bronholitin": reviews. For children and adults, we take into account side effects
This section is based on the widespread practice of using the drug, since a side effect can only be identified if it actually works. According to numerous opinions and reviews from survivors, Bronholitin can cause the following reactions in the body:
- Takihardia.
- Insomnia. Children may experience drowsiness, tremor, and dizziness while taking medications.
- Visual impairment.
- Nausea, constipation, vomiting.
- Skin rash, as well as increased metabolic processes.
- Difficulty urinating.
- Tachyphylaxis.
Despite the terrifying list of side effects, there is no need to focus on this, since the vast majority of adults and children easily take the drug. As a rule, side effects occur when there is an individual intolerance to any component of the drug or in the presence of a serious illness.
Additional Information
Patients with diabetes should take into account that the cough medicine contains sucrose. In addition, most doctors recommend that during treatment with the drug you avoid work that requires quick reactions. It is also not recommended to drive motor vehicles.
If, however, a side effect makes itself felt, it is necessary to reduce the effect of the components on the body. To do this, it is necessary to organize the parallel use of non-selective beta-blockers. Today the drug is sold strictly according to a doctor's prescription.
Weight loss issues
Very often you can hear opinions that Bronholitin is incredibly effective for weight loss. Reviews from slimmer representatives of the fair sex indicate that the drug helps to easily get rid of extra pounds.
The effect and miraculousness are achieved through the combination of syrup with aspirin and caffeine. Thus, the body has a broad stimulating effect: the bronchi expand, swelling of the mucous membranes is eliminated, and so on. Regular use of the medicine has a great impact on the body’s nervous system: stimulation of cells, acceleration of metabolic processes, and as a result, further activation of the fat burning process. However, it should be taken into account that when using the drug for more than 10 days, brain activity deteriorates, frequent headaches appear, and addiction occurs. Therefore, before including this syrup in your diet, you should pay attention to contraindications, side effects, dosage, and also set a specific time of consumption.
