Psychosomatics and throat: illness and pain
When a throat hurts, the first thing a person does is use medication or go to the doctor for help. This can help with a one-time illness.
If the soreness in the throat persists for a long time and there are no obvious causes of the disease, psychosomatics is most likely to blame.

In this case, the throat is treated, but it is additionally necessary to solve the psychological problem that caused the illness.
Every person has repeatedly had to deal with such concepts as psychiatry and psychology in life. These two medical fields study the human nervous system and the influence of various psychological factors on the body.
What is psychosomatics
The very concept of “somatics” means a disease that affects the body. As a result, psychosomatics includes a medical and psychological basis.
To put it simply, science studies various diseases of the body, which directly depend on a person’s psychological state and reaction to certain life circumstances.
If the patient often holds back accumulated grievances and does not allow strong negative emotions in the form of anger or irritation to come out, the throat will hurt very often.
To understand why a cold develops and a sore throat without signs of a cold, it is worth visualizing how negative energy accumulates inside a person, constantly asking to come out. Since a person refuses to let it out, all kinds of diseases develop inside the body.
Frequent stress at work, troubles in your personal life, and so on, affect your health.
Such experiences entail real diseases of the body, and this applies not only to the throat, but also to other parts of the body.
Why does my throat hurt?
Before you find out how a psychosomatic doctor views certain throat diseases, you need to understand what disorders may appear in the body.
The most well-known and common throat diseases include:
Less common disorders include edema, laryngeal stenosis, and laryngospasm.
As a rule, doctors most often believe that such throat diseases develop due to a decrease in the functioning of the immune system, which is why viruses or bacteria enter the human body, provoking the disease.
The patient's condition is accompanied by fever, dryness and soreness in the larynx, accumulation of pus and other cold symptoms.
Meanwhile, psychosomatics believes that many colds and sore throats do not occur due to viruses entering the body. The reason is most often associated with weakening of the nervous system, frequent stress, anxiety and other psychological reasons.
It is precisely these phenomena that psychosomatics studies.
Psychosomatic causes of throat disease
According to science, the throat is a symbol of life. The condition of the throat depends on how much a person is able to express himself, express himself, express his personal opinion, and defend his rights. Psychosomatics can easily explain why exactly one or another part of the body begins to hurt and because of which a person may often experience colds.
Science has developed special psychosomatic tables of the causes of the disease, which have a section dedicated to the throat. According to the data presented, the appearance of throat problems is primarily associated with all sorts of misunderstandings that a person has to face in the course of life.
In other words, sore throat, pharyngitis, chronic tonsillitis and other throat diseases are provoked by ordinary understatement. Most often, the throat hurts in those people who, due to their character traits, never utter rude words and curses, are incapable of self-expression and are constrained. When a person is silent, instead of speaking out, health problems begin. Meanwhile, those who are not shy about harsh expressions and offensive phrases rarely complain about their throat.
The disease especially often affects individuals who do not have the right to vote, who are forced to think and act according to decree. With constant prohibitions and the inability to express one’s desires, a sore throat appears.
It is not uncommon for some people to feel powerless in their family. At the same time, they do not even try to defend their interests, since they are convinced that they have no rights to do so. Such family members often experience throat problems and cough.
A sore throat can occur when holding back anger frequently, when a person is angry but is embarrassed to express his dissatisfaction. In addition, such behavior usually negatively affects many other internal organs.
How to get rid of psychosomatic illness
Before starting treatment for a throat disease caused by psychosomatics, it is important to determine what exactly caused the development of the disease. If the reason for this is the usual understatement, you need to learn to express your thoughts to others in person boldly and without fear of being misunderstood.
Thus, getting rid of the disease occurs as follows:
- The exact cause of the throat disease is determined - the virus entering the body, decreased immune function, or psychosomatics.
- If psychosomatics is to blame, you need to determine what exactly triggered the disease.
- After eliminating the psychosomatic cause, solutions to internal problems of throat diseases go away quite quickly.
So, if a person has been in the rain for a long time, in a draft, got wet, or simply drank too cold drinks, the cause of the disease, of course, will be hypothermia. When there were no obvious reasons for the disease, the person did not catch a cold, and was in favorable conditions all this time, it is worth thinking about. It is quite possible that the patient has experienced severe stress, had a fight with someone, or is simply very dissatisfied with something. The psychosomatics of a throat disease will be identified immediately.
It is also necessary for the patient to remember exactly what sensation he had at the time of a specific stressful situation, which caused disturbances in the body. For example, if a sore throat began at a moment of strong anger, which could not be thrown out because the person restrained himself, everything must be done to ensure that such a feeling does not arise again.
That is, it is worth finding another way to solve the problem so that you can safely say everything to a person’s face and thereby get rid of the accumulation of negative energy. At such moments, someone breaks dishes, someone expresses emotions by screaming, and the opportunity to share experiences with loved ones is also considered a good option. There can be many options here, the main thing is to avoid the accumulation of negative emotions and do everything to prevent your throat from hurting in the future.
When the habit of not expressing one's opinion has been formed over the years, it is quite difficult to correct it, but it is possible. Only children who are completely dependent on their parents cannot get rid of the problem on their own.
In this case, the disease can only be dealt with with the participation of adults.
How to solve a problem without harming others
To express yourself as much as possible and get rid of sore throats, you need to learn to talk about yourself, and not about others. Psychosomatics refers to this method as “I-statement.”
To understand this method, it is worth analyzing a specific case. For example, the patient is the mother of a teenager who went for a walk without warning and does not answer his parents’ phone calls. Mom is worried, nervous, constantly dialing the phone number. When a child comes home, there are three options for parents to behave:
- Start shouting loudly, expressing opinions and throwing out anger, calling the teenager heartless and irresponsible. Such behavior will likely provoke only aggression and misunderstanding in response, which will affect future family relationships.
- Absorb all negative emotions and remain silent so as not to spoil your relationship with your child. In this case, negativity can cause pain in the larynx, causing pharyngitis.
- Calmly tell what exactly the mother experiences when she worries and worries about the child.
It is the third option that will allow you to clearly express your feelings without offending the other person. This system is effective in dealing with all types of disagreements. The main thing is to follow two conditions:
- The pronoun “I” should be in the key position.
- You need to talk about personal feelings and experiences.
By using the “I-statement”, you can gradually get rid of the disease. However, treating psychosomatic causes is a secondary measure. It is necessary to undergo a full examination and a course of medication to eliminate painful symptoms.
Prevention of psychosomatic throat disease
In order to prevent the development of the disease, you need to learn to reflect negative emotions in a timely manner and correctly. As a rule, people with a stable psyche are protected from the unwanted effects of emotional situations. Meanwhile, they do not have any special abilities; such people simply know how to quickly and painlessly get rid of negativity.
If a person is angry about something, psychologists in this case advise reacting to the situation calmly. You need to take a deep breath and exhale, understand the reason for the anger, accept it as a small thing in life, calm yourself down and forget about what happened. To ensure that the situation does not repeat itself, it is necessary to talk with the culprit of the stressful situation and come to an understanding.
At first glance, such a scheme seems easy and quickly implementable. However, a person must have great willpower, learn for a long time not to take on other people’s negativity and be a peaceful person.
There are also other ways to solve the problem. Playing sports is a very good way to help get rid of negative emotions. Today, many patients practice yoga, which very effectively teaches how to cope with oneself and imbues life with peace. Martial arts fans take out their negative emotions in sparring or punching a punching bag. Thus, there are a large number of different options for getting rid of anger, as a result of which your throat will no longer hurt.
- Eastern medicine links the throat chakras to the creative realm. To express your emotions and feelings, it is recommended to sing, draw, knit, write poetry, play musical instruments, and cook delicious dishes.
- Blue colors also help solve emotional problems. Japanese doctors recommend imagining the blue color as often as possible, which spreads throughout the respiratory tract, penetrating every cell of the throat. Blue color needs to be inhaled and exhaled; such breathing relieves problems with the respiratory organs, calms and awakens creativity.
- To enhance the therapeutic effect, essential oils of lavender, bergamot, patchouli, chamomile, sandalwood, tea tree, and cajuput are used. To alleviate the patient’s condition, it is recommended to sing the throat sound “ham” several times a day until vibration appears in the throat. The procedure is repeated at least seven times.
- To learn to accept problems, it is important to learn to be yourself. You need to love yourself as you are in this world. You should not delve into your shortcomings, since all people have them, and every person is not ideal. If the patient is not afraid to express himself, he can easily turn his disadvantages into advantages.
Psychologists note that any person cannot be liked by absolutely everyone, and a person is not obliged to love everyone. If you accept yourself and love with all your heart, this leads not only to inner happiness, but also to health. A specialist will talk about psychosomatic diseases in the video in this article.
Psychosomatics is an insidious thing. I just get an unpleasant sore throat out of the blue. Moreover, there are no obvious reasons for this, other than constant nervous tension at work. Sometimes even sedatives don't help.

How to change your life
All in your hands
Why does my throat hurt: psychosomatic problems
When a throat starts to hurt, the first thing a person does is go to the pharmacy or see a doctor. This is not always enough for successful treatment. If a sore throat bothers you quite often, then we can talk about such a phenomenon as psychosomatics: your throat hurts not just because you have a cold. It’s worth mentioning right away that you still need to treat your throat. But in parallel with this, it is worth thinking about the psychosomatics of this disease, that is, about the psychological reasons that caused the disease.
The throat is a symbol of life
The throat is considered a symbol of life, the manifestation of life. The condition of the throat depends on our ability to express ourselves, to express ourselves, to express our opinion, to defend our rights. When a person is forced to remain silent instead of speaking, then problems begin - psychosomatics makes itself felt: a sore throat.
A sore throat often bothers children. Adults find a lot of reasons for childhood illnesses. Infections, viruses, rainy or windy weather... But in essence, children get sick because they “don’t have the right to vote.” From the point of view of most adults, children should think as their parents think. Even when a child cannot yet speak, he can express his desire. If he constantly feels prohibited from his desires, a sore throat appears.
This happens to adults too. It happens that some family members feel disenfranchised. And, what is especially important, they do not talk about their needs, do not defend their interests, simply not considering that they have such a right. It is these family members who most often suffer from throat diseases and chronically cough. At the same time, they do not even suspect that the answer to the question “why does my throat hurt” is psychosomatics.
What to do: how to eliminate the psychosomatic causes of throat disease?
So, you understand why you experience a sore throat: psychosomatics is the main reason. What to do? If the habit of considering oneself has no right to talk about one’s interests and emotions has developed over the years, then it is quite difficult to cope with it. But still, everyone can do it. The only exceptions are children who are completely dependent on their parents. In this case, they can only cope with psychosomatics with the help of adults.
So what can you do? Learn to talk safely about your desires, emotions, feelings. “I've already done this. This only leads to conflicts,” you might object. Of course, each of us has tried to defend our rights at least once. If the attempt was unsuccessful, then next time it will be more difficult. And I don’t want to. In fact, it is quite possible that you have chosen the wrong way to talk about how you feel and what you want.
How to express yourself correctly so as not to offend others
The best and safest way to express yourself, and therefore overcome a sore throat (psychosomatics), is to talk about yourself, and not about others. In psychology, this method is called “I-statement”.
What does this mean. Let's look at it with an example. Let's say you are the mother of a teenager who stays late at night and doesn't even pick up the phone. You are worried, nervous, constantly dialing his phone number... Finally, he returns home. You have three options:
- “Attack” the child, scream, swear... At the same time, mothers usually say something like: “How could you? You are irresponsible. You are heartless. You only think about yourself,” etc. With such behavior, you will most likely cause retaliatory aggression from the teenager, which will affect your future relationship.
- Keep silent so as not to spoil the relationship with the child. It is in such cases that the throat begins to hurt...
- There is a third, most optimal option. You can say how you feel at the moment. Most likely, your speech would be something like this: “Son, you have come. I'm so glad you're okay. I was very worried, very much. I didn’t know where to look for you and I understood that if something happened to you, I couldn’t help you. This thought made it even harder for me. You didn’t pick up the phone, my heart sank at the thought that not everything was okay with you...”
This third option is an example of an “I Statement,” which allows you to express yourself without offending the other person. This speech can sound anything. Everyone experiences all situations in their own way. This technique works with everyone: with a spouse, parents, children, friends... The main thing is to comply with two conditions. Firstly, the pronoun “I” should become key. Secondly, you need to talk about your feelings. If you develop the habit of speaking in the “I-statement” style, throat diseases (psychosomatics) will stop bothering you. Again, it is important to understand that awareness of psychosomatic causes should not become your main method of treatment when your throat already hurts. Rather, it is an additional method that speeds up recovery. And, of course, this is important as further prevention.
How to help a small child
If your baby often suffers from throat diseases, then you should pay attention to his wishes. After all, the psychosomatics of throat diseases in children is the same as in adults. Very often, mothers, wishing the best for their baby, do not even suspect that even the baby herself can have her own desires. If you look closely at the baby, you will see what he really wants. It’s even easier with older children - they can talk about their feelings and desires if you create a trusting environment for the child. So, what desires are children forced to remain silent about? Here is just a small list to give you a general idea of your child.
- Children under one year old want a feeling of security. Most often, it appears in the constant presence of the mother, when she can feed him, pick him up, change him, or give him a toy at any time.
- Children from one to three years old want to explore the world freely. Endless “no”, spanking and shouting demonstrate to the child that he does not have the right to his own development. Nowadays, creating a safe environment for a child has become much easier. You can now buy plugs for even the most dangerous sockets.
- Children from 4 to 7 years old want to play. As much as possible, as loudly as possible, as fun as possible. This age requires patience. And your child deserves this patience.
- Children of primary school age want to learn what interests them. Listen to your child's wishes. Here it is worth realizing what you want and what your child really wants. Perhaps you were the one who wanted to play the piano as a child. And your child wants to draw... If a child does not consider himself entitled to do what interests him, psychosomatics will definitely appear: a sore throat will become the child’s companion.
- Children of adolescence and older attach great importance to their position among their peers. They need communication, they want to look special, have their own point of view on everything... you shouldn’t be afraid of this. Let your child be who he is. Even if he dyed his hair red... After all, this does not mean that it will last forever. It is quite possible that his passion for red hair will go away within a week.
The psychosomatics of throat diseases is quite simple to explain. In order to cope with psychological reasons, you need your desire, patience and, of course, faith in yourself!

Psychosomatics of throat diseases
Throat diseases are not always associated with exposure to viruses or bacteria. The patient’s emotional background and hidden psychological trauma can have a negative impact.
The functioning of the human body is not always based on biological processes. A large number of diseases may not respond to even the most effective treatment plan or diagnosis to explain the causes of the formation.
Modern medicine and psychology in the search for the causes and treatment of throat diseases have reached a new level, and such a factor as psychosomatics began to be considered. The concept of psychosomatics is a special mechanism for the development of an illness, the cause of which is problems of a psychological or emotional nature.
The psychosamotic factor can affect any part of the body. The throat can get sore even due to an unusually large number of emotions, both positive and not so positive. This happens for the reason that the unstable psycho-emotional component of a person provokes suppression of the immune system and affects the mobility and contractile function of muscle tissue. Taken together, this mental process leads to increased activity of pathogenic microorganisms and a painful sensation in the throat area.
Psychosomatics and the throat are connected by certain emotions, psychotypes of behavior in everyday life, and one’s own perception of the world. The main sign by which a non-physical cause of a disease is determined is the lack of effect of the treatment used or its weak manifestation.
Angina
It is considered the most common disease among people of all ages. The main pathogens are bacteria, viruses or fungi - streptococci, staphylococci, herpes, candida. Standard treatment involves the use of antibiotics or antiviral drugs with additional antiseptic gargles.
Regular manifestations of sore throat or its prolonged development raise suspicions of problems in the area of emotional background. Is the frequent feeling of a lump in the throat related to psychosomatics? If problems with the throat are persistent and cause anxiety, then the following factors may be the causes of such symptoms:
- Inner humility over some unpleasant occasion that was not fully accepted. Forced humility with the resulting result.
- An offense that happened in a past story. An extremely unpleasant incident occurred in which a person, for some reason, was unable to explain his position, express dissatisfaction and disagreement. Emotions of resentment find their way out over time in the manifestation of a sore throat.
To solve a problem, it is necessary to work through a conflict from the past. First you should strengthen your emotional stability, realize the usefulness and normality of the proposed process. You need to completely change your attitude towards that situation from the past. Make peace with what happened and accept its outcome.
To choose the right tactics, you need to contact a psychotherapist who will help determine the true cause of the disorder and the right mindset for healing. Working on your own emotional state will relieve internal tension and many related problems and diseases.
During therapy, it is important to realize that loving yourself is not bad, tune in to the positive moments in life, and learn to talk out all your complaints. Ignoring the doctor’s recommendations and repeated seclusion will again and again cause throat disorders.
Tonsillitis
The disease is an inflammatory process in the tonsil area. Research by psychologists has shown that the root cause of the disease is the patient’s general compliance and submissiveness in the social sphere. This type of people rarely expresses their disagreement or dissatisfaction and submits to what is happening. Often denying your right to your opinion and desire. When unfairly attacked, they cannot stand up for themselves.
Angry thoughts are accompanied by irritation and depress positive moments. Over time, situations accumulate in which a person did not show the appropriate reaction and did not allow himself to express his dissatisfaction. A heavy lump of negativity forms, which comes out and settles on the tonsils. Tonsillitis develops, and subsequently tracheitis, the psychosomatics of which is also closely related to the emotional state.
As a way out of this situation, it is necessary to use a creative direction associated with applied art. While working on a particular project, direct your thoughts to the process itself. Therapy should last several months, after which all the accumulated negativity comes out through the hands.
The main rule is to talk through your past and present problems that cause discomfort. When you create something with your own hands, there is a surge of positive energy that accumulates and instills joy in life.
Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis is a disease of the throat in which inflammation of the mucous membrane occurs. Frequent manifestations of this illness indicate that a person regularly experiences angry emotions and suppresses them. In second place are the reasons for the lack of a sense of self-realization in life. A certain passed stage of life, in which a person was not able to fully express himself or show his creative potential, can also make itself known after a while.
Science knows that in the throat region there is an area responsible for the realization of creative self-awareness. The presence in life of problems with the manifestation of one’s abilities leads to a disorder of the throat. You need to decide to express yourself, and not be afraid of an unsuccessful or funny project.
Solving a problem involves actively engaging in creative activities. You need to think about and decide which type of activity attracts more, and start using it. It is important at this moment not to look at how busy other people are, but to focus on your desires and feelings.
It is necessary to direct all free energy to activities that evoke positive emotions and prevent the penetration of negative energy.
Laryngitis
The disease manifests itself as inflammation of the larynx, sometimes with loss of vocal abilities. If there is no response to treatment, the following factors may cause the disease:
- A long-standing fear of speaking loudly and openly. Fear that what is said will be misinterpreted and misunderstood by others.
- Worries about poor quality expression of your thoughts, which will make your listeners laugh.
- Reluctance to speak so as not to blurt out too much. Excessive inhibition of one's desire to communicate due to a long-standing mistake in a statement.
- Avoiding conversations that are of great importance due to fear of being misunderstood and unsupported.
The chronic habit of leaving everything important to oneself becomes the cause of throat diseases. All fears settle on the surface of the organ and constrain the voice. Symptoms show a person his excessive suppression of his self, his voice.
If you regularly have a sore throat, this may mean that pressing problems are not fully articulated. There is a type of people who are unable to explain their claim or disagreement with a particular issue. Emotional tension accumulates, which a person constantly suppresses within himself and tries not to notice. Meanwhile, the smooth muscles of the organ tense, and the ability to resist viruses and bacteria disappears. The emerging disease shouts to the person that he needs to open up and not be afraid to talk about his grievances and indignations.
The study of the psychological causes of various pathologies began relatively recently, so many reasons for the manifestation of diseases will be discovered in the future. One of the famous psychologists in psychosomatic research is Dr. Louise Hay. Sometimes a sore throat and psychosomatics are closely related and require professional intervention.

Psychosomatics of cough
Having fallen ill, a person begins to look for the physical causes of the illness. However, it has long been proven that the emotional state has no less important influence on the body than external factors. Psychosomatics deals with the relationship between the physical body and the emotional component.
Therefore, in parallel with following the doctor’s instructions, it is advisable to visit a psychotherapist who will help you deal with emotions and solve internal problems that provoked the disease. Timely processing of hidden feelings will help avoid health problems.
Finding and eliminating the cause of the disease
Before seeing a doctor, you can try to figure out your disease yourself. To do this, it is necessary that the patient answer himself very honestly whether he experiences negative emotions and, if so, whether he suppresses them, for how long and for what reason. Only frank recognition of the problem will contribute to its solution.
Psychosomatics specialists offer tables compiled on the basis of numerous studies and observations, in which the most likely causes of a particular disease are derived.
In them you can find a list of the most common diseases, their explanations and treatment recommendations. One of the phenomena that psychosomatics also considers is coughing.
Psychosomatic causes of cough
A cough that is not caused by bronchitis, asthma or other diseases symbolizes a person’s desire to make a loud statement and attract attention.
A sore throat and a desire to cough arises at a time when the inner critic does not agree with the statements of others, but does not dare to object openly.
A person who is periodically choked by a cough is characterized by increased irritability and sensitivity to the actions and words of others, and this irritability is directed at himself. The inner critic constantly finds reasons to blame a person for all the troubles.
Coughing can also occur as a defensive reaction if a person is forced to do something that he does not like. True, in this case, the body can defend itself in all sorts of ways: from an unreasonable increase in temperature to an irresistible desire to sleep.
How to treat psychosomatic cough
If the main cause of the disease is psychosomatics, cough cannot be cured only with pills, because its cause is not physiological. During an attack, you need to become aware of your thoughts and soberly analyze them and understand that in fact they do not correspond to reality.
I had never thought before that the cause of a cough might not be a disease at all; indeed, sometimes, when you don’t want to say something, a coughing attack occurs; the next time I cough, I’ll take a closer look at the reasons and what’s happening around me.
I always trusted and found logical justification only in the exact sciences. Likewise, in medicine I believed that this or that disease must be treated with medication. The term “psychosomatics” did not exist for me at all until a difficult situation happened in my life, which I did not easily cope with. That’s when I started coughing, first I was treated with folk remedies, then as prescribed by the doctor, but to no avail. Once I found an article on the Internet about psychosomatics, thought about it, transferred the situation to myself and found answers to many questions. It turns out that I simply hid my problems inside myself, when they needed to be solved. Soon everything fell into place, there was order in my head and my health returned to normal.
My throat is, one might say, my Achilles heel; I have chronic pharyngitis. It is quite possible that the cause of the cough is partly due to psychosomatics. We need to seriously think about this.
1) Nervous atmosphere in the family. Arguments and screams. A rare calm.
2) One or more family members are driven into despair by their actions.
3) Unexpressed anger and claims that cannot be presented.
This is 100% true. Now I’m just sick and now I understand why
I just have a terrible cough right now. It feels like I can’t cough it up and I’m vomiting. I am aware of my problem. I try to talk to people but they don’t hear me. When there is a conflict at home with my husband, father and brother, I always voice that there is a conflict between us and it needs to be resolved. They can nod, they can ignore, and if they agree, it’s only so that I leave them behind and the problem returns again and again every time. I'm tired, I'm hopeless. Now when I have a problem, I keep silent because... This is a waste of time and effort. I swallow all my grievances and move on. How to solve this problem if I go to meet people and they don’t?
Dinara, you can try to speak out to a friend / psychotherapist / confess / write out all your anger and dissatisfaction on paper and burn it. It is difficult to resolve a conflict alone, without the support of the other party. Listen to the lectures of Dr. Torsunov or Narushevich. A lot of things are falling into place. be healthy
I have been tormented by a cough for a long time, but there is no tickle, colds or any pain at all, I just lose my breath and start coughing. The thought that it was psychosamatics came to me after reading the reasons: hopelessness, unexpressed anger and claims that cannot be presented, this is just about me, and even if we add the feeling of my own worthlessness. I wish I knew how to change this.
You need to change yourself. Start working on yourself. Read Sinelnikov. Everything will become clear. Good health to everyone. Love and all the best.

Psychosomatics - what a sore throat “screams” about
Why does my throat hurt - psychosomatic causes of sore throat in adults
Psychosomatic diseases are called mental trauma in physical manifestation. Indeed, people with psychosomatic illnesses are vulnerable to the physiological manifestations of emotional experiences, but there is no clear answer as to why this happens.
Physical manifestations of symptoms of psychosomatic illness hide their true cause. If your goal is to find the underlying causes of frequent throat diseases, it makes sense to seek help from a psychologist.
Psychosomatics of throat diseases: sore throat, mucus, sore throat, laryngitis, loss of voice
The throat belongs to several body systems at the same time. Through the throat we receive food and drink, and it also provides us with the ability to breathe and speak.
Supporters of Eastern teachings associate the throat area with creative energy, arguing that crises of creativity and doing unloved things cause accumulations of energy in the throat area, and as a result, soreness and pain. At the same time, doing what you love can also lead to a sore throat. Why?
Yes, because we are often afraid of disturbing others, feel guilty or believe that we should not be “better” (happier) than others. Allow yourself to create freely, work for pleasure, do what you love without regard for others. It’s worth learning not to think about the opinions of third parties when it comes to your creativity or your favorite activity.
The throat is the center of energy for communication and information exchange. The “outside-in” channel is responsible for awareness and acceptance of information from the outside world, the “inside-out” channel is responsible for the ability to express one’s thoughts, opinions and ideas to others.
Unspokenness and the habit of holding in anger
The habit of holding back anger and suppressing resentment leads to accumulations of mucus, pain and even swelling of the throat tissue. Understatement (including due to fear of being misunderstood), unwillingness to come to terms with reality or adapt to it, and an unspoken reaction to a negative situation can cause a constantly recurring sore throat.
Laryngitis with partial or complete loss of voice is a signal of a suppressed desire to speak out (for example, for fear of offending or fear of consequences), to express one’s opinion, and also indicates a need for understanding and acceptance from others.
To summarize, we can say that if you regularly try to “tread on the throat” of your interests and do not do what your soul is passionate about, “swallow” anger and cannot stand up for yourself, you are guaranteed to have problems with your throat.
What to do if you are tired of constantly treating a sore throat?
Fortunately, with proper counseling, you will experience symptom relief fairly quickly. In just 1-2 sessions, an experienced psychologist-psychosomatologist will be able to find out the root causes of the development of throat diseases and find possible ways to solve the existing problem.

Psychosomatics, I suffer from pain and sore throat, I often catch colds.
My problem is this. I very often, recently, almost constantly have pain and a sore throat, and I often catch colds. The cause can seem to be almost anything - a cool drink, a draft, exposure to rain, five minutes of communication with a person with a cold. Often there are no external reasons at all. During the cold season - almost six months a year - life becomes very difficult - I catch a cold almost without a break.
This has been going on for five years, during which I went through many examinations by different specialists - ENT specialists, immunologists, allergists. Medicines and procedures only relieve symptoms for a short time, but after a few days the painful condition returns. A lot of money and effort were spent on visiting hospitals, but each time there was disappointment. Doctors were unable to identify the cause, saying “I did everything I could” and “it just doesn’t happen.”
I still can’t get used to the pain in my throat, it greatly interferes and distracts me, spoils my mood, and exacerbations force me to change plans. Attempts to ignore it do not lead to success; pain prevents you from enjoying communication and any pleasant events. In bad weather, that is, very often, I am simply afraid to go outside, because every time even a short walk entails a deterioration in my health. I constantly listen to my feelings, I try in every possible way to protect myself from “dangers” (I don’t drink cold things, I try to dress very warmly, I often get to the place I need by taxi or ask for a ride), but every forced encounter with them causes fear, anxiety, whether I get sick or not. I am stumped by the most banal everyday things. This makes me feel dissatisfied with myself, inferior, “wrong”, and often feel envy towards “ordinary” people. These feelings intensify when I try to talk about my problem with loved ones, when I receive answers: “It’s just a cold, there are people with more serious illnesses,” “You’re inventing problems for yourself,” “Just forget it and enjoy life, you have everything.” ok”, “Stop whining.” I constantly think that my abnormal pain and despondency about this are pushing people away from me.
With the onset of autumn, a new wave of exacerbations began. I feel depressed, often cry and blame myself for not being able to cope with such nonsense. The coming winter really scares me.

A psychologist answers the question.
You are right, your condition has largely psychological causes. Scientists, psychoendocrinologists, have proven that our immunity depends on hormones, and hormones, in turn, on the emotional state of a person. For example, there is a stress hormone and a joy hormone; the hormonal levels change when you fall in love and prepare a woman to become a mother. Therefore, let's talk about how you can strengthen your immune system without drugs. Write a list of what makes you happy in life. It could be some little things (for example, a cup of coffee with candy in the morning) or larger events (a trip to the sea), it could be meeting with friends or reading a book. Learn to understand what makes you happy. Every day, determine for yourself what you will do to please yourself today and tomorrow. You need to want to wake up in the morning and live this day. Observe how often you smile (this also affects your immunity) and make sure that there are more reasons for smiling. When you do something pleasant and loved, learn to immerse yourself in a state of joy completely (for example, don’t just drink coffee, but enjoy the aroma and taste of every sip, don’t just walk, but feel what the air is like today, what the sun is like, what color the sky is). Learn to be grateful to life for these opportunities.
It’s good if things gradually appear on your list of joyful things to do, in which not only you, but also other people are happy (for example, invite your mother to a cafe for a cup of coffee, help with the cleaning). It is very important to learn to experience joy with other people and from caring for other people.
Choose the type of physical activity that you enjoy. It could be yoga, fitness, dancing or strip plastic. The main thing is that you enjoy these classes. A contrast shower in the morning will be useful (start with a very small difference in temperature, for example, warm and lukewarm water). The shower should be pleasant for you. No need to immediately pour ice water on yourself.
There are quite a few products. which strengthen our immunity. Start spending money not on medicines, but on prevention and wellness. For example, tea with ginger and honey, onions, garlic, and berries are useful. Eat well (your body is still developing). Eat fish, meat, chicken, vegetables. fruits, nuts, dairy products, eggs. cereals (reduce the amount of sweets and move them to the morning). Treat yourself to healthy foods (for example, walnuts with honey and dried apricots are a great dessert).
A healthy person is a person who knows how to enjoy life through nutrition, movement, communication and knows how to be grateful to life for this.
Don't be lazy, read this answer - it's not enough. We need to take action to improve our health.

Sore throat: psychosomatics
When we have problems in the throat, we usually think that we have once again picked up some kind of virus, and when cases of diseases become more frequent, we humbly agree that the process has already entered the chronic stage and we run to buy even more antibiotics and medicines. And rarely does anyone think about the other nature of the origin of throat discomfort, which represents other, metaphysical explanations. If there are no objective, physical reasons for your ill health, the key to unraveling inexplicable situations should be sought in the field of psychosomatics and psychology.
Sore throat: psychosomatics
Organ - conductor
The human throat has several functional roles that ensure the normal functioning of the body.
- Firstly, it is a kind of checkpoint of the body - everything that comes from the outside is passed through it, being tested for harmful factors, dosed with it and warmed up, or, on the contrary, cooled down, so as not to injure the internal organs.
- Secondly, the quality of breathing is largely determined by the condition of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, that is, the throat.
- Thirdly, the throat, namely its vocal cords, gives us the opportunity to communicate with the outside world and express ourselves through the sounds it makes.
- Fourthly, according to scientific research, it is argued that the center responsible for human creative potential is located precisely in the throat structures.
With such important functions, it would be a mistake to ignore points of view other than the official one on the origin of throat problems, in particular, on modern psychosomatic interpretations.
The concept of psychosomatics
What is psychosomatics
The concept of psychosomatics, new to many, began to be vigorously discussed in scientific circles relatively recently, with the impossibility of drawing parallels between physiological causative factors and cases of diseases. The ideas that a person’s psycho-emotional status is a trigger for the onset of a disease have not been controversial for a long time. The science of psychosomatics explores the connection between two aspects - bodily (somatics) and psychological health of a person and identifies cause-and-effect relationships of disorders in the physical, emotional, mental, mental and other areas of the state.
Important! In relation to throat diseases, psychologists and medical practitioners have established a close connection, pointing to human psychological gaps as provocateurs of diseases.
Moreover, these “gaps” always resonate with the main throat functions: creative unfulfillment, understatement, fear of harming someone, an unspoken reaction to an insult, fears of being misunderstood, a reluctance hidden deep in the subconscious to come to terms with reality, and much more. “Stepping on the throat of your own song” is the key phrase that explains the suffering of all “throat” psychosomatics.
Consideration in detail of the psychosomatic causes of throat diseases should be in connection with each individual diagnosis, since a certain psychological problem has its own physiological manifestations that are characteristic only of it.
Psychosomatics for angina
This is a fairly common disease that occurs due to streptococcal or other infections, when it can be treated with antibiotics and forgotten. But if angina occurs regularly, then here we should consider the reasons more deeply, namely, in psychosomatics.
Frequently recurring sore throats indicate long-term and profound negative circumstances that worsen the quality of life in general. It could be:
- An old incident that greatly influenced the life scenario, which a person was forced to come to terms with, but could not internally accept.
- To factors that were forcibly brought into life in the distant past, there remains an unspoken reaction, inaction or resentment, which now, after a while, seeks a way out, transforming into manifestations of sore throat.
Frequently recurring sore throats indicate long-term and deep negative circumstances
Here you cannot do without carefully working through past conflict situations, protecting yourself from them by accepting, reconciling, distancing or changing your attitude towards that long-standing event. Talking through all stages, alone or in the presence of someone, is an important element on the path to effective avoidance of problems. Accepting what has already happened, while explaining your fear and anger, is the surest way to ensure that past horrors disappear.
Psychosomatics for laryngitis
Repeated cases of laryngitis, when the larynx becomes inflamed and complete or partial loss of voice occurs, indicates the following problems:
- About a person’s deep-seated fear of saying something openly. Fears are usually based on an imaginary or real confidence of not being heard in the right way, fear of misinterpretation of what was said, or incurring a new round of anger.
- The fear of falling in the eyes of someone as a result of “talking”, of not being up to par.
- Fear of uttering unnecessary expressions, as happened before, and the desire for total restraint of oneself.
- Avoiding an important conversation about an urgent request that is of great importance to a person, due to fear of refusal.
Repeated cases of laryngitis may indicate a person's deep-seated fear of speaking up about something.
The habit of avoiding important communication and postponing it until later provokes the release of accumulated fears through a sore throat in the form of laryngitis. To block this state, it is important to understand that whatever fear is, it is not positive and does not play for safety, but, on the contrary, harms mental health and leaves no chance to express oneself.
Note! Further inaction in this regard can trigger a pathological psychosomatic program in relation to other organs.
Expression of feelings to a degree consistent with a person’s psychological status (excluding, of course, unacceptable forms of communication) is a healthy need for self-realization and self-expression.
Connection between organs and emotions, consequences
It is recommended in this case:
- Distance yourself from what is happening for a while.
- Analyze within yourself the possibility of the situation developing, work out all possible outcomes.
- Allow yourself to express feelings and emotions. To voice your thoughts without fear of different assessments is to give others a reason to recognize your right to their opinion. The worst thing that can happen in this case is a refusal, which in most cases does not reflect any personal attitude, but is only a coincidence.
- Feel how old fears lose their power, and they are replaced by openness and freedom.
Psychosomatics for pharyngitis
Frequent inflammatory processes in the mucous membrane of the throat indicate constant dissatisfaction with life, and suppressed attacks of anger in connection with this. Most often, the cause of this condition is the lack of self-realization in people who, due to various circumstances, have not been able to develop their creative potential, the center of which is located precisely in the throat structures. This great potential seems to be in a dormant, embryonic state, and a person cannot understand the cause of his troubles.
Frequent inflammation of the throat mucosa indicates constant dissatisfaction with life
In this case, the feeling of dissatisfaction can only be influenced by active activity in the creative field - taking advantage of every opportunity for self-expression, even if it is very insignificant. There is no need to do this aggressively, publicly - the result of one awkward, but personal quatrain can turn out to be very constructive and healing for the individual.
In this case, healing should be sought only through creative self-realization: singing, drawing, poetry, dancing.
Important! The goal here is to direct energy in a positive developmental direction, and not leave it for empty fears and discontent.
Psychosomatics for tonsillitis
Psychologists tend to associate the increasing cases of inflammation of the palatine tonsils with the presence of certain behavioral characteristics of the individual, such as excessive submission to circumstances, the inability to express one’s displeasure, denial of one’s legal rights to something, and lack of ability to stand up for oneself.
Where do emotions live?
Increasing irritation and anger due to the suppression of healthy emotions grows over time, like a snowball, and occupies the “entry gate” of the body - the tonsils.
The way out of this state is meant, again, by directing one’s abilities into the creative path, but with the only amendment - the main tool in this case should be the hands, through which the accumulated negativity can escape over time. When you get comfortable with needlework, you should start talking through your problems or reading something abstract without applying it to yourself. Accumulating positive energy through creativity along with relaxation techniques should definitely bear fruit.
Psychosomatics about adenoids in children
Psychosomatic specialists claim that children with a deficiency of parental love, constant stress caused by the fear of falling under the arrows of anger, or fear of loneliness are prone to inflammation of the adenoids. Children cannot regulate their mental processes as intelligently as adults, and therefore their suffering is driven inside much more quickly, manifesting itself as problems of the adenoids.
Psychosomatic specialists claim that children with a deficiency of parental love are prone to inflammation of the adenoids
Loving parents must tirelessly correct the child’s psycho-emotional state, preventing resentment or conflict from developing, drowning them out with spontaneous play situations or humor. The child’s psyche is very delicate and vulnerable, and not allowing the roots of evil or resentment to go deep is the primary task of parents.
Note! The energy between children and parents should always remain positive, which, with enough time spent with the child, would not leave any chance for the introduction of negativity.
Other psychosomatic manifestations
We can highlight some more common relationships between painful manifestations of the throat and psychosomatic causes.
Psychosomatic causes of illness
- Difficulty breathing. This condition usually implies a person’s lack of aspirations, goals in life, reluctance to change, and lack of any plans for the near future. A person seems to feel the need for an influx of fresh air into the lungs, entering through the throat - it is not enough for a full life.
- Feeling of tightness in the throat. A feeling as if someone squeezed the throat from the outside, grabbed it with their hands, happens when a person is forced for a long time to say something that disgusts him, that is, they put pressure on him. The situation is denoted by the expression “taken by the throat.”
- Lump in the throat. Often a person cannot swallow food freely; it literally gets stuck for no objective reason. From a psychosomatic point of view, this is explained by non-acceptance of the situation, internal rejection of something or someone. An unpleasant acquaintance who is trying to become a friend, or a deliberately losing idea imposed by someone, or bewilderment about anger or aggression emanating from someone can cause a similar reaction. It is necessary to analyze, determine the permissibility of boundaries and decide what to do next with unwanted “intrusions”.
- Spontaneous sore throat. It is usually led to by understatements and understatements that a person takes as the basis of communication for a long time. It has been noticed that modest, shy, intelligent and insecure people suffer from various types of sore throats much more often than those who do not shy away from strong words. What must be conveyed to the opponent must be worked out; albeit alone, with oneself, but it must take place so that it does not accumulate mentally.

Psychosomatics, as the area of intersection of traditional medicine and psychology, is only at the beginning of the path to understanding the secrets of known diseases. But it will be of little help to those who do not learn to vigilantly observe their body, remember situations that led to health problems and draw the right conclusions. Finding the right reason is already half the success. All that remains is to choose for yourself an acceptable way to eliminate stress and negativity from life, even if it’s a struggle with yourself, but it’s worth it.
