Bioparox, instructions for use
General information about the drug
Bioparox is produced in the form of an aerosol, the main active ingredient of which is the antibiotic fusafungin, which also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Fusafungin was isolated from the fungus Fusarium. It has a local effect on inflammation of the respiratory tract. It is produced by a French company. A 20 ml bottle contains 400 doses.
Mechanism of action
Particles of the active substance Bioparox are attracted to the membrane walls of pathogenic microbes, damaging them. Fungal and bacterial cells do not die instantly, but they can no longer reproduce or release toxins. The drug has a bactericidal effect on various harmful microorganisms, for example, staphylococci, streptococci, actinomycetes, mycoplasmas, and candida fungi. All of them cannot develop resistance to the drug. In addition to the detrimental effect on microbes, an anti-inflammatory effect is also manifested, pain decreases, swelling of the mucous membranes, and discharge from the nose and respiratory tract becomes less. The drug manages to penetrate deeply into the respiratory tract during inhalation. The drug almost does not enter the bloodstream.
Indications for use
ENT doctors, therapists and pediatricians recommend Bioparox for the following diseases:
- runny nose (bacterial rhinitis);
- sinusitis or sinusitis;
- sore throat, chronic tonsillitis, pharyngitis;
- laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis;
- after having your tonsils removed (an operation called tonsillectomy) to prevent infections and complications.
How to use the medicine?
- Bioparox is quite simple to use; it is easily dosed by pressing your finger on the base of the spray bottle. Inhalation irrigation is done in the nasal passages or in the mouth, it all depends on where the infection has settled. Practice shows that some people do not know how to properly inhale from an aerosol can with a medicinal substance. Therefore, the effect of the drug is lower than it could be.
- If you want to use a purchased canister for the first time, then first release a dose from it four times, thereby you will adjust the volume (dose) of the medicine released when pressed.
- When administering the medicine into the nasal passages, first place a nozzle specially designed for this purpose on the top of the bottle (it is yellow or colorless). Then turn the bottle upside down. Carefully insert the nozzle into one of the nasal passages, while closing the other passage with your finger. Then inhale and immediately press the bottom for inhalation to occur. Keep your mouth closed during the procedure.
- For inhalation activities in the mouth, take a white nozzle. Open your mouth, insert the nozzle, turning the can upside down. Close your lips and press the base all the way as you take a deep breath. After administering the doses, hold your breath for a few seconds so that at this moment the particles of the medicinal substance penetrate deeper and settle on the mucous membranes.
- Do not be afraid to administer the drug in this way, inhaling; there will be no pain or other unpleasant sensations.
- If you inhale shallowly, the medicine will remain in the mouth and the effect will be weak.
- Do not forget to blow your nose before inhalation and clear your nose of mucus.
- Be sure to disinfect the attachments every day by wiping them with a cotton pad previously soaked in alcohol.
Now about the doses. They are installed by a doctor. Children over 12 years of age and adult patients most often require 4 doses twice (or four times) a day in the mouth. Or two doses four times a day are administered into each nasal passage. But children from 2.5 to 12 years old need to take from 2 to 4 doses in the mouth or 1-2 doses in each of the nasal passages. The irrigation procedure must be done four times a day. The duration of treatment should not exceed seven days.
If treatment with Bioparox is started on time, it can quickly stop inflammation and the proliferation of microbes.
Please note that Bioparox is prescribed to children from 2.5 years of age. Parents and pediatricians speak well of him. When a person is dissatisfied with this spray, then when clarifying how he used the drug, errors in administration are discovered. If the child is younger than the specified age, then the drug is not used, since in children inhaling a dose of the drug can lead to laryngospasm (narrowing of the glottis, through which air enters the lungs).
This remedy can be used in complex therapy.
Are there any contraindications?
If hypersensitivity to fusafungine is detected, Bioparox should not be used. Those who suffer from allergies to medications should also be careful.
Try to use the drug so that its particles do not get into your eyes. If you press the base unsuccessfully and the released substance gets on the mucous membranes of your eyes, then immediately rinse them thoroughly with water.
There is very little data on whether fusafungine harms the developing fetus or the infant whose mother uses the aerosol. Therefore, the drug can be used by pregnant or lactating women only when prescribed by the attending physician.
Side effects
Bioparox is usually well tolerated by patients.
In very rare cases, lacrimation, sneezing, coughing, dry mucous membranes, allergic reactions, nausea, and red eyes occur. Some patients complain of a burning sensation or an unpleasant taste of the medicine.
MirSovetov warns readers that Bioparox should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
Clinical trials show that Bioparox helps many patients recover faster from ENT diseases if treatment is started at the first symptoms and all dosage rules and regimens are followed. Don't forget to consult your doctor if you have any questions.

Bioparox - will this drug help with diseases of the nasopharynx and respiratory tract?
Bioparox is an antibacterial drug for the local treatment of diseases of the ENT organs and respiratory tract. Bioparox also has an antifungal and anti-inflammatory effect, relieves swelling, and reduces nasal discharge.
Before you continue reading: If you are looking for an effective method of getting rid of a runny nose, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis or colds, then be sure to look at this section of the site after reading this article. This information has helped so many people, we hope it will help you too! So, now back to the article.
How does Bioparox work?
Bioparox is an antibiotic for topical use, which is produced by the French pharmaceutical company Laboratories Servier in the form of an aerosol (spray) in 20 ml bottles, which contains 400 doses of the drug. The active ingredient in the aerosol is fusafyungin.
The mechanism of action of the drug is based on the fact that it suspends the vital activity of microorganisms sensitive to it. Bioparox is active against microorganisms that often cause diseases of the nasopharynx and upper respiratory tract - some types of staphylococci, streptococci, anaerobic bacteria (whose life activity occurs without access to air), mycoplasmas, yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. An important feature of the drug is that infectious agents do not develop resistance to it.
In addition to the antibacterial and antifungal effects, Bioparox also has a fairly active anti-inflammatory effect. This occurs due to the fact that the drug helps reduce the concentration of tumor necrosis factor (a protein that takes part in the development of inflammation) in tissues and suppresses the formation of toxic free radicals by macrophages while maintaining phagocytosis (phagocytosis is the absorption of infectious agents by macrophages).
With proper treatment with Bioparox, it penetrates into the most remote corners of the respiratory tract. Thus, during inhalation, the aerosol in the form of small particles penetrates deep into the walls of the nasopharynx, including the sinuses, relieving inflammation, swelling and reducing the volume of nasal discharge. Inhalations are done with a deep breath and allow particles of the active substance to penetrate deep inside the walls of the respiratory tract and reach the smallest bronchi - bronchioles.
When inhaled, the active ingredient of the drug is practically not absorbed into the blood, reaching only the surface of the mucous membrane. In blood plasma, Bioparox can be detected in small quantities, which does not have a general effect on the patient’s body.
The exception is conditions in which even a small amount of it in the blood can have a general effect:
- the use of Bioparox during pregnancy - even a slight ingress of the main active substance into the blood can affect the child to one degree or another;
- use of the drug during breastfeeding.
Application of Bioparox aerosol
The drug Bioparox has found application in the treatment of diseases of the ENT organs and respiratory tract - the most common diseases in adults and especially in children these days. For these diseases, adequate treatment prescribed in a timely manner (at the very beginning of the disease) is of great importance. If this does not happen, complications often develop and the acute course of the disease transitions to a chronic course. Chronic diseases are much more difficult to treat.
In order to prevent complications, you can use Bioparox, which acts only locally and does not have a general effect on the body.
Acute respiratory diseases are often of viral origin, so why antibiotics, including Bioparox?
In the first days of the disease, if a person does not suffer from any chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases, they are really not needed.
. But if, for example, a runny nose does not go away within a week, then, obviously, a bacterial infection has joined the viral infection: opportunistic microflora constantly lives on the mucous membranes of the ENT organs and respiratory tract and, against the background of inflammation caused by viruses and decreased immunity, penetrates the mucous membrane and causes an inflammatory process of bacterial origin. It is at this moment that treatment with Bioparox can prevent complications.
If a person with a viral infection suffers from some kind of chronic infectious-inflammatory disease, for example, sinusitis, then treatment with Bioparox can be started at the very beginning of the viral infection to prevent exacerbation of sinusitis. If this is not done, to treat an exacerbation of sinusitis you will have to take antibacterial drugs that have a general effect on the body.
Bioparox can be used for acute and chronic rhinitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis. But if, while using the drug, the inflammatory process does not decrease, then you need to consult a doctor: perhaps a local antibacterial agent is not enough and it is worth prescribing general (systemic) treatment.
How to replace Bioparox?
This drug has no analogues. Bioparox can be replaced simply with another antibiotic. For example, Isofra is suitable for local treatment of the nasopharynx - it is also an antibiotic in the form of a spray.
Bioparox for sore throat
Bioparox cannot always be used for angina. Sore throat is an acute inflammatory process in the area of the palatine tonsils of bacterial origin. A sore throat begins with catarrhal symptoms, that is, with redness and swelling. But the process that has begun rarely ends with this; in most cases, sore throat becomes purulent. There are lacunar and follicular tonsillitis. With lacunar angina, pus is located in natural canals - lacunae of the tonsils, and with follicular abscesses are located on the surface of the palatine tonsils, which is why they take on the appearance of a fly agaric.
Purulent tonsillitis is a severe general disease that is accompanied by high fever, chills, pain in the joints and muscles.
Bioparox for the treatment of sore throat may be suitable only at the stage of catarrhal inflammation, that is, at the very beginning of the disease. In this case, if the disease is caused by pathogens sensitive to the drug, there is a chance to stop the inflammatory process at the very beginning. But if after using Bioparox for three days the patient’s condition does not improve, the temperature increases, you need to call a doctor at home in order to prescribe general (systemic) treatment for sore throat.
Bioparox is used infrequently for angina, but it is widely used for chronic tonsillitis, that is, for a chronic inflammatory process in the tonsils. Exacerbations of chronic tonsillitis are often mild and do not require the use of general antibiotics. The use of Bioparox in this case is quite suitable, since it is an antibiotic to which infectious agents do not develop resistance, and it can be used repeatedly. The medicine is always effective at the very beginning of a bacterial infection.
Bioparox for sinusitis
Bioparox for sinusitis is effective only at the beginning of the disease. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the paranasal sinus or maxillary sinus. Sinusitis can be acute or chronic. Acute sinusitis is often a complication of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), which are accompanied by a bacterial infection. A sign of such a complication is a rise in temperature, headaches and persistent long-term nasal congestion.
Acute sinusitis, just like a sore throat, is difficult to treat with Bioparox alone, unless it is possible to catch the very beginning of the disease, when the inflammatory process is still catarrhal in nature.
You can start using Bioparox for sinusitis from the very beginning, but if there is no improvement within two to three days, then, most likely, you will need to prescribe general antibiotics. The drug requires use strictly according to indications. For sinusitis, inhalation of the drug into the nose is carried out in accordance with the instructions. Bioparox is an antibiotic, so it is used for no more than 7 days in a row.
How can I replace Bioparox for sinusitis if it is not available in the pharmacy?
Isofra spray is quite suitable, which, however, is not an analogue of Bioparox.
Contraindications
Bioparox is a drug that has virtually no general effect on the body, so it has very few contraindications. The main contraindication of the drug is the patient's hypersensitivity to this drug.
Children under 2.5 years of age (and possibly older) should not use Bioparox. Contraindications for its use have been established due to the fact that young children cannot yet control their breathing and inhaling the medicine can cause laryngospasm in them (spasm of the glottis with a sharp disturbance in breathing - the child cannot inhale or exhale).
Bioparox should be used with caution in patients who often develop allergic reactions.
Bioparox during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Patients often ask the doctor the question: Can pregnant women use Bioparox?
It is not advisable to use Bioparox during pregnancy, since clinical studies on the effects of the drug during pregnancy have not been conducted. Laboratory studies on animals did not reveal teratogenic (the ability to cause developmental abnormalities) and embryotoxic effects on the fetus of the drug during pregnancy.
And yet, Bioparox is sometimes prescribed to pregnant women, but only by a doctor if there are clear indications. A pregnant woman cannot take the drug on her own (like other medications). In any case, the product should be used with caution.
Side effects
Bioparox is usually well tolerated and side effects are uncommon. Local side effects include irritation and dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose and throat, attacks of sneezing and coughing. Sometimes, after inhalation, an unpleasant taste remains in the mouth, swelling of the periocular area is a result of exposure to Bioparox. Side effects of this kind usually do not require discontinuation of the drug and go away on their own during treatment.
Allergic reactions are also possible, if suspected, the medicine should be discontinued immediately. Allergic reactions to Bioparox can manifest themselves in the form of an itchy skin rash, urticaria, Quincke's edema (swelling of the subcutaneous tissue spreading to the larynx and breathing problems). In some patients, when inhaling the drug, attacks of bronchospasm or laryngospasm (spasm of the larynx, which is especially typical for young children), and anaphylactic shock develop.
How to use Bioparox?
Treatment largely depends on the correct use of the drug. Bioparox is an aerosol that is available in bottles with two attached tips - for the mouth and for the nose. Before using the bottle, to activate it, you need to press the bottom of the bottle four times.
Bioparox is used for a runny nose (including in combination with pharyngitis) and other inflammatory processes in the paranasal sinuses. For the purpose of treatment, the drug is inhaled into the nose using a nasal tip. Before inhalation, you need to clear the nasal cavity of mucus; drops or nasal spray based on sea water (for example, Aquamaris) are best suited for this.
. After this, the Bioparox nasal tip is inserted into one nostril and pressed for a long time on the bottom of the bottle, while simultaneously taking a deep breath through the nose. In each nostril in one session you need to make two inhalations of the aerosol. For adults, such sessions are held four times a day. Children over 2.5 years old are given 1–2 inhalations of the drug into each nasal passage, also four times a day.
For tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, inhalation should be done through the mouth, using a mouth tip. The tip is placed in the mouth and the bottom of the bottle is pressed four times for a long time, while taking a deep breath to completely irrigate the tonsils and pharynx with Bioparox aerosol.
For coughs (tracheobronchitis), the drug can also be effective: Bioparox is an aerosol that penetrates into the most remote corners of the bronchi. Before starting inhalation, you need to cough well, then inhale while taking a deep breath and hold your breath for a few seconds so that the medicine particles reach the small bronchi. Inhalations are given to adults four times a day. Children are given 2–4 inhalations of the drug simultaneously four times a day.
If you are worried about a runny nose and cough at the same time, then the Bioparox medicine is injected into the nose and mouth at each session.
In order for treatment with Bioparox to be effective, it must be continued for a week. For convenience, the bottle comes with a special case so that it is convenient to carry it with you at all times. The nose and mouth pieces should be cleaned with alcohol every day.
Bioparox for children
Bioparox is used quite actively for the treatment of children. Children often suffer from colds, since their immunity develops gradually and usually fails to cope with its protective functions. They especially often start to get sick when they first join a children’s group; today this usually happens at 3–4 years of age.
Bioparox can be used in the treatment of children starting from 2.5 years. It is not prescribed before this age, since inhalation of the aerosol can cause laryngospasm (spasm of the glottis through which air enters the lungs) and breathing problems in the child. If treatment is started on time, the drug can stop the infection and prevent it from spreading to other organs. Just don’t forget that a child can use Bioparox only as prescribed by a doctor.
In pediatrics, the drug Bioparox is often used in the treatment of acute infectious and inflammatory diseases of the ENT organs and respiratory tract. Reviews from pediatricians and parents about it are mostly positive. There are also negative reviews, but upon closer examination in these cases you can almost always find errors and violations in the use of the drug.
Reviews and price
If you start using the drug on time and follow the instructions exactly, you can achieve its high effectiveness. This medicine, as a rule, can be combined with the use of general antibacterial drugs, which is undoubtedly a positive property of Bioparox. Reviews from doctors and patients about this drug are in most cases positive. Negative reviews about Bioparox are usually associated with its incorrect use.
The price of the drug is high, but acceptable. The average price ranges from 360 to 420 rubles. But if a person is sick for a long time and often, he should pay attention to Bioparox. Its price is consistent with its quality: treatment with Bioparox can significantly reduce the duration of the disease.
Clinical practice shows that for many diseases of the ENT organs and respiratory tract, Bioparox is effective at the very beginning of the disease.

Bioparox: a universal spray for the treatment of diseases of the throat and nose
Colds are usually not limited to just a runny nose or solely a sore throat. According to the unwritten law, the disease comes “in a complex”. Fever and body aches are not enough here: various respiratory viruses cause a runny nose, sore throat, and cough at the same time. But the troubles that ARVI is fraught with do not end there. A few days after the onset of a cold, bacteria often join viruses. And then Bioparox enters the battle - a universal spray with an antibiotic for the throat and nose. Enter - and win!
>> The site presents an extensive selection of medications for the treatment of sinusitis and other nasal diseases. Enjoy it for your health! <
Composition and release form
So, what is this medicine for all colds? This is a spray for the nose and throat of the French company Laboratory Servier Bioparox. It is popular all over the world - the drug is sold in 58 countries, including Russia. The drug contains the natural antibiotic fusafungin, which was isolated from the fungus Fusarium lateritium. Fusafungin differs from other antibiotics in that it has a dual effect: both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.
Fusafungine solution is a yellow liquid.
The distinctive quality of Bioparox is its specific, rather pleasant smell. It is provided by a whole dozen aromatic extracts: caraway, clove, coriander, wormwood, mint, orange, orange, rosemary. This riot is crowned with anise oil.
One dose of aerosol contains 0.125 mg of the active substance fusafungine. The Bioparox spray package is equipped with two separate nozzles for the throat and nose.
Pharmacological action, or How Bioparox works
The action of Bioparox is due to the pharmacological properties of its active substance - fusafungin. It is active against a wide range of bacteria, namely:
- streptococci, including the causative agents of pneumonia, pneumoniae streptococci;
- staphylococci;
- Moraxell;
- hemophilus influenzae;
- legionella;
- mycoplasmas and some others.
It is worth noting that staphylococci, moraxella and hemophilus influenzae are among the most common pathogens of sinusitis. In addition, the drug Bioparox is effective against fungal infections caused by candida, in particular, the common causative agent of thrush Candida albicans.
The undoubtedly positive properties of the spray include the lack of habituation of microorganisms to it. Neither cross-resistance nor acquired resistance to fusafungine has been reported during all years of use of the drug.
Bioparox also has a local anti-inflammatory effect. It not only fights bacteria and fungi, but also reduces swelling of the mucous membrane, improves nasal breathing and reduces the intensity of the inflammatory process. The anti-inflammatory properties of fusafungin are based on a decrease in the concentration of inflammatory mediators, as well as an antioxidant effect.
Travel in the body
When sprayed, fusafungin is evenly distributed on the surface of the mucous membrane of the nose or pharynx. However, it is not absorbed into the blood at all. Evidence of the absence of a systemic effect is the fact that not a single laboratory study, including those using ultra-sensitive techniques, could detect fusafungin in plasma after treatment with Bioparox. This property of the drug guarantees its high safety and excellent tolerability.
Note that the Bioparox stream after spraying in the nasal cavity contains such small suspended particles that they can reach the maxillary sinuses. Thanks to this remarkable ability, the drug can be successfully used to treat sinusitis of bacterial origin. If you use Bioparox to treat a throat, for example, with a sore throat, the molecules of the active substance penetrate into the branches of the bronchi - bronchioles! Therefore, Bioparox is sometimes used for coughs.
Indications for use of Bioparox
The drug is prescribed for a wide range of diseases of the upper respiratory tract and nasopharynx in adults and children over 12 years of age. Among the indications of Bioparox listed in the official instructions for use:
- rhinitis - inflammation of the nasal mucosa;
- pharyngitis - inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa;
- rhinopharyngitis - a complex disease that covers the entire nasopharynx, most often develops with ARVI;
- laryngitis - inflammation of the vocal cords;
- tonsillitis - inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis);
- sinusitis, including sinusitis.
The spray is also indispensable after tonsil removal - it effectively prevents postoperative complications.
Bioparox and vocal cords
Laryngitis - inflammation of the vocal cords - is a disease that often develops against the background of respiratory infections. It is not easy to treat. Conventional local antiseptics, which are widely used as part of complex therapy for inflammation of the oral cavity and pharynx, physically cannot penetrate the vocal cords - they are located too deep in the larynx.
Therefore, there are practically no drugs for the treatment of laryngitis. Those who are hoarse and hoarse can only do inhalations with essential oils and use Isla tablets with Icelandic moss, which, according to the manufacturer, still manage to penetrate the ligaments. Against the background of this meager number of offers, the drug Bioparox looks very solid. Fusafungine molecules penetrate even into the bronchioles, so it is not difficult to “get” the folds of the laryngeal mucosa, thanks to which we speak out loud, scream and sing.
In most cases, the initial viral infection that triggers the episode of laryngitis quickly becomes complicated by a bacterial infection. And if ARVI is a self-limiting disease that ends on its own, then bacterial inflammation requires antibiotic therapy. Bioparox can quickly and effectively relieve inflammation in the vocal cords, prevent bacterial infection or stop it in time.
Contraindications to Bioparox: interpret the instructions for use
We have already said that Bioparox is one of the drugs that are not absorbed into the blood, and therefore are especially safe. However, contraindications to its use still exist. And first of all, this is, of course, individual sensitivity to fusafungin or the auxiliary components of the drug. And, as we have already seen, there are a lot of them - just a complex aromatic composition is worth it.
The second serious contraindication to the use of Bioparox is a predisposition to bronchospasm. After all, we must not forget that the medicine is an aerosol that enters the nasal cavity or pharynx in a powerful jet. If you have severe allergies or bronchial asthma, you will have to avoid Bioparox. In such cases, it is unsafe and can lead to an asthma attack.
And the third point concerns children. The safety of Bioparox for the treatment of children under 12 years of age has not been tested, therefore the instructions for use clearly indicate that it is contraindicated for the treatment of this category of patients. However, in practice, pediatricians often neglect this instruction and prescribe the drug as part of the complex treatment of ARVI, sinusitis and other diseases. So is it possible or not to use Bioparox for children, and at what age is the medicine safe enough? This question should rather be asked to practicing pediatricians than to pharmacologists, especially since the latter have already answered it.
Treatment of pregnant and lactating women
As with children under 12 years of age, pregnant women were not included in clinical safety studies. And therefore, the instructions for use of Bioparox about the possibilities of using the drug during pregnancy speak rather vaguely about prescribing with caution.
The reasoning for the dual position is also given in the instructions: Bioparox was studied in long-term experiments on pregnant laboratory animals. The results of these studies indicated that the drug does not have a teratogenic effect and does not affect the course of pregnancy. Is it possible to take Bioparox during pregnancy or is it still not worth it?
And here I would like to note that fusafungin, which is part of Bioparox, is an antibiotic, albeit a natural one. And good tolerability of the drug by animals does not guarantee the same effect on the human body. Therefore, it is better to take Bioparox during pregnancy only when it is impossible to cope with the disease without it, and especially in the 1st, most critical trimester.
Servier has not provided data on whether Bioparox is absorbed into breast milk; therefore, it is not recommended for use by nursing women.
How to take Bioparox: dosage and course of treatment
Standard dosages of Bioparox are:
- for the treatment of respiratory tract diseases, including tonsillitis - 4 injections into the oral cavity;
- for the treatment of diseases of the nasopharynx, 2 injections into the nasal passage.
In case of severe infection, it is possible to use Bioparox inhalations in combination with systemic antibiotics (in the form of tablets or injections).
Let us pay special attention to how many days treatment with Bioparox should last: the course of therapy is exactly seven days. By reducing the treatment time, the effectiveness is significantly reduced. Remember that the course of antibiotic treatment should not be interrupted or shortened, otherwise there is a possibility of the development of resistant strains of bacteria that cannot be treated with antibacterial drugs.
Attention: be careful!
And let us immediately note one more feature of fusafungin. If treatment with this antibiotic lasts longer than a week, there is a potential for superinfection. Doctors understand by this term a new infection that follows immediately after the previous one has been cured. For example, if the course of sinusitis was supported by Haemophilus influenzae, then after a 10-12 day course of Bioparox, Staphylococcus aureus may take its place. Moreover, it will already be completely resistant to fusafungin and, quite possibly, to other broad-spectrum antibiotics.
To prevent the growth of strains of resistant bacteria, you need to take the warning included in the instructions for Bioparox extremely seriously: do not exceed the course of treatment for more than 7 days.
How to spray Bioparox?
Before using Bioparox for the first time, it is necessary to calibrate the aerosol. Only then can you be sure that one spray will contain a strictly defined dose of fusafungine. Calibration is very simple: you need to press the base of the cylinder four times. In this case, there is no need to put the nozzle on the bottle.
After calibration, you can begin treatment.
Treatment of nasopharyngeal diseases
Before using Bioparox, it is important to make sure that nasal breathing is free. If this is not the case, instill vasoconstrictor medications, such as xylometazoline (Galazolin) or oxymetazoline (Nasivin) nasal drops. You can rinse your nose with saline solution (Humer, AquaMaris). Let's get to the fun part: how to spray Bioparox in the nose?
Place a yellow nose tip on the bottle and insert it into the nasal passage. In this case, it is important to pinch the second nasal passage and close your mouth. During inhalation, do not inhale to avoid getting the medicine into the respiratory tract. Another condition for the correct use of Bioparox: the bottle of medicine must be kept strictly vertical.
Treatment of respiratory tract diseases
A white mouthpiece is placed on the bottle. It is inserted into the mouth and pressed tightly with the lips. The balloon is held vertically. Just as in the case of using Bioparox for the nose, you should not inhale while spraying the medicine.
After administering the drug, the nozzles are disinfected by wiping it with a swab soaked in ethyl alcohol with a concentration of 90%.
Undesirable effects
The drug may cause side effects. Let us note the most common of them:
- More than 10% of patients who take Bioparox develop swelling of the conjunctiva, taste disturbances and sneezing;
- Dry nose or throat (depending on site of application), throat irritation, cough and nausea may occur in 1–10% of cases.
All other adverse events when using Bioparox are rare. Thus, 0.01–0.1% of patients may develop allergies, shortness of breath, laryngeal edema, bronchospasm, rash, urticaria, Quincke's edema, and itching. By the way, if you have an allergic reaction to the components of Bioparox - no matter the active substance or the excipients - experts recommend stopping taking the medication and not resuming it. This is the only side effect that requires discontinuation of Bioparox.
In all other cases, even if adverse events develop, treatment is continued until the end of the course. Of course, we are not talking about anaphylactic shock or life-threatening Quincke's edema. In such situations, adrenaline may be necessary. However, in order not to frighten readers, we emphasize that such extreme measures and such serious side effects occur in less than 0.01% of patients.
Analogues of Bioparox
Bioparox is a unique drug that has no cheaper analogues on the market. Some competition for Bioparox can come from the nasal spray with the antibiotic Isofra, which contains framycetin. Both drugs are prescribed for bacterial rhinitis, rhinosinusitis and sinusitis. However, there is a significant difference between them: if Bioparox is not prohibited for use during pregnancy, then Isofra, which contains an aminoglycoside antibiotic, is strictly contraindicated.
Throat sprays with antibiotics - there are no potential rivals to Bioparox. And therefore, it’s not easy to make a mistake: whether you have a sore throat, a persistent runny nose, or suddenly have sinusitis, you can safely buy Bioparox and defeat the army of bacteria that threaten your health.

pharmachologic effect
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Is fusafungin an antibiotic or not?
Wikipedia to the question “Fuzafungin - what is it?” answers that the substance is a local polypeptide antibiotic with anti-inflammatory activity. It is obtained from strain 437 of the Fusarium lateritium fungus culture.
The drug is effective against Gram (+) bacteria (group A streptococci (Str. pyogenes), Str. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus spp.); Gram (-) bacteria (including certain strains of Neisseria, Legionella pneumophila, Moraxella catarrhalis, Haemophilus influenzae); some anaerobes, fungi of the genus Candida, mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma spp.).
Pharmacodynamics
When administered by inhalation, fusafungine settles on the surface of the mucous membrane of the external respiratory system; the substance is not detected in the blood plasma. The aerosol form provides complete coverage of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and penetration into the bronchioles and sinuses.
After four times inhalation through each nasal passage or through the mouth, the concentration of fusafungine in the bronchi and trachea reaches 0.04, in the nasal cavity - 0.06, and in the lungs - 0.08 mg/ml.
The drug reduces exudation, relieves swelling and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory system, improves nasal breathing. Practical experience shows that the effectiveness of therapy is higher if treatment with Bioparox is started early.
Fusafungine does not reduce the effectiveness of antimicrobials for systemic use. There are no reports of cross-resistance or acquired resistance.
Pharmacokinetics
After use in the form of inhalation, the drug is distributed mainly on the surface of the mucous membrane in the nose, oral cavity and pharynx. The concentration of the substance in the blood plasma does not exceed 1 ng/ml and does not affect the safety of Bioparox.
Indications for use
The feasibility of using Bioparox for angina
For angina, Bioparox is not always used. Sore throat (or acute tonsillitis) is an infectious disease with local manifestations of inflammation in the area of the 1st and 2nd tonsils.
Reviews about Bioparosk for sore throat are good. However, the drug can only be used at the catarrhal stage of inflammation - with redness and swelling of the palatine tonsils, that is, when the inflammatory process has just begun.
In addition, Bioparox is widely used to treat exacerbations of chronic tonsillitis, which in most cases are not as severe as tonsillitis.
If acute tonsillitis is complicated by the appearance of pustules, the use of topical antibiotics does not make sense. If there is no improvement after three days of treatment or the patient’s condition worsens, the drug is discontinued and the patient is prescribed systemic antibiotics.
Using Bioparox spray for sinusitis
For sinusitis, the spray is effective only in the initial stages of the disease. Sinusitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Acute sinusitis usually develops against the background of acute respiratory viral infection, complicated by a bacterial infection.
The first symptoms of the disease are persistent long-term nasal congestion, headache and high fever. Acute sinusitis, like acute tonsillitis, cannot be cured with Bioparox alone. The effect of using the drug is possible only in the very early stages of inflammation.
If after 2-3 days of treatment the patient does not feel improvement, systemic antibiotics will most likely be required.
Contraindications
The drug has virtually no contraindications. Limitations to its use are intolerance to fusafungin or any of the auxiliary components of the spray, as well as early childhood (up to 2.5 years).
The spray should be used with caution in patients prone to bronchospasm and allergies.
Side effects
Sometimes (very rarely) side effects may occur, such as increased dryness in the nose/throat, dysgeusia, sneezing, throat irritation, nausea, and cough.
These reactions are transient and do not require cessation of treatment.
Sometimes, especially in patients prone to allergies, local reactions of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, reactions of the mucous membrane (redness, swelling), bronchospasm, and superinfection may occur. In such cases, treatment with Bioparox should be discontinued.
If symptoms appear in the respiratory system, skin or larynx, due to the risk of anaphylactic shock, it may be necessary to urgently administer epinephrine (adrenaline) at a dose of 0.01 mg/kg. Method of administration: intramuscular injection. In some situations, repeated administration of adrenaline may be necessary. The drug is administered in the same dose after about 20 minutes.
Spray Bioparox: instructions for use
Instructions for use of Bioparox in adults
The standard dose of the drug for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system (bronchitis, pharyngitis, tracheitis, etc.) for adult patients (including adolescents and the elderly) is four injections through the mouth and/or two injections into each nasal passage 4 r ./day
Spray Bioparox: instructions for use for children
Due to the risk of developing laryngospasm, Bioparox for children can only be used from 2.5 years.
A single dose of Bioparox for children from 2.5 to 11 years old - one injection into each nasal passage or two injections into the mouth. Frequency of applications - 4 rubles/day.
Many mothers leave good reviews about Bioparox spray. In their opinion, the drug very quickly helps with pharyngitis and sore throat, but can cause adverse reactions in the form of a burning sensation in the throat and allergic stomatitis.
Some are afraid to use Bioparox for children, remembering the inappropriateness of topical use of antibiotics.
Dr. Komarovsky gives an explanation on this matter in his blog: it is forbidden to instill antibiotics that are intended for systemic use into the nose, but fusafungin contained in Bioparox is not systemic, therefore, it can definitely be used topically, and doctors who prescribe a spray for children in no way violate pharmacological principles and norms of modern medicine.
Overdose
No overdose was observed with topical use of fusafungin.
Interaction
Drug interactions of fusafungin (including with other antibiotics) have not been studied.
Terms of sale
Storage conditions
The aerosol container must not be exposed to temperatures above 50°C. Avoid leaking the container and storing the drug near intensely emitting heat sources.
Best before date
special instructions
Due to the possibility of relapse, it is not recommended to stop using Bioparox immediately after the first signs of improvement appear.
Long-term use of the drug can cause an imbalance in microflora and the spread of superinfection.
Lack of improvement after a week of treatment is a reason to consider alternative therapy.
The fragrance contains propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation.
The spray contains a small amount of ethanol (less than 0.1 g/dose).
Features of using an aerosol can
Before using Bioparox for the first time, to fill the dosing mechanism, press the main nozzle 4 times. After this, the nozzle on the container is replaced with the desired one: white - for the mouth, yellow - for the nose, transparent - children's for the nose.
Before using the spray, you need to clean your nasal passages. Holding the container in a vertical position, insert the nozzle into each nasal passage one by one and make the required number of injections. In this case, the mouth and other nasal passage should be closed.
In case of use through the mouth, a white nozzle is inserted into the mouth, lips are compressed around it and, lightly pressing on the bottom of the can, an injection is made (you need to breathe as usual during injection).
The container must be disinfected daily. The treatment is carried out once a day, using cotton wool soaked in a solution of ethyl alcohol (90%).
Analogues of Bioparox
Price of Bioparox analogues
Almost all analogues are cheaper than Bioparox. Grimicidin tablets (No. 20) cost an average of rubles, Isofra nasal spray - from 240 rubles, Grammidin - from 165 rubles.
Bioparox and alcohol - compatible or not?
During treatment with the drug, alcohol is contraindicated.
Bioparox during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Is it possible to use Bioparox during pregnancy?
The spray contains the antibiotic fusafungin, which is not detectable in blood plasma when administered inhaled.
The manufacturer, in the annotation for the drug, when asked whether pregnant women can take inhalations with Bioparox, answers that during pregnancy the drug can be used, but only with the approval of the attending physician and if there are indications.
Animal studies did not reveal any negative effects (direct or indirect) on the course of pregnancy/childbirth, as well as on the development of the child in the prenatal period and during infancy. The use of the drug did not reduce fertility in female and male rats.
Please remember that taking any medications during pregnancy carries certain risks. As for the spray, there are no clinical data that would confirm the safety of its use in pregnant women.
Why is Biparox prescribed during pregnancy?
Due to the extremely low absorption of fusafungin, the likelihood that the drug will cause fetal developmental disorders is extremely low, even if Bioparox is used in early pregnancy.
In this case, the spray can cause much less harm than an infection, since the most common acute respiratory viral infection suffered by the mother in the first weeks of pregnancy often leads to a miscarriage or the development of defects incompatible with life.
However, if it is necessary to use it in the 1st trimester (especially in the first 8-9 weeks), after completion of treatment it is recommended to check how correctly the fetus is developing.
In the 2nd trimester, colds are not so scary for a child. By this time, the child has already formed all the vital organs, so viruses no longer have a fatal effect. However, a cold that is not treated in time can cause fetal hypoxia and damage to the nervous system.
Oxygen starvation can lead to both a slight slowdown in development and cerebral palsy or dangerous underdevelopment of the brain.
In the 3rd trimester, a cold can trigger premature labor. Timely use of Bioparox allows you to minimize this risk and also prevents the risk of hypoxia.
Reviews of Bioparox during pregnancy are good: the drug very quickly eliminates inflammation, makes breathing easier and relieves sore throat. Mothers who used it at different stages of pregnancy note that the treatment did not affect the health of their children in any way - their babies were born strong and healthy. However, despite all the safety of fusafungin, it is still not worth using it uncontrolled.
Use during lactation
When feeding, the use of Bioparox is possible if indicated.
It is unknown whether the active substance of the drug penetrates milk during breastfeeding. The decision to stop or continue breastfeeding/therapy is made taking into account the benefits of the first for the child and the second for the mother.
The ability of fusafungine to pass into breast milk has not been studied in animal studies.
Reviews about Bioparox
Many people evaluate Bioparox as a fast-acting and very effective remedy for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system. The active substance of the drug acts only on the surface of the mucous membrane of the ENT organs and respiratory tract, which allows the spray to be used during pregnancy and in pediatric practice.
The drug is effective against bacterial pharyngitis, bronchitis and rhinitis. However, only if used correctly: for sore throat and sinusitis, Bioparox can only help if it is started to be used immediately after the first symptoms of the disease appear.
Reviews about Bioparox for children are quite contradictory. Some mothers praise the medicine for the fact that it quickly copes with cough, runny nose, redness and sore throat. Others call it completely useless.
The disadvantages of the spray, in their opinion, are also its specific taste and pungent smell, which children often do not like, the presence of side effects (burning and dry throat), and high price.
Based on patient reviews, we can draw the following conclusion that the drug can act completely differently on different people, so it should be used only with the approval of the attending physician and taking into account the patient’s response to the prescribed treatment.
