Okomistin or chloramphenicol

Okomistin excellent eye drops

Okomistin is one of the most common eye drops in my home medicine cabinet. I treat various inflammations with Okomistin - conjunctivitis, recently a blood vessel in the lower eyelid became inflamed, so I was surprised when the ophthalmologist prescribed the familiar Okomistin drops.

Table of contents:

Okomistin is easy to buy at any pharmacy, is available without a doctor’s prescription and costs up to 200 rubles per bottle. An open tube cannot be stored for longer than 2 weeks; this condition is met for all eye drops.

But I have a little advice for chroniclers. Usually, few people buy eye drops in reserve, well, maybe only a penny albucide, for others it will be expensive to stock up. Don’t think that I’m giving bad advice, but don’t throw away the drops after 2 weeks of use, leave them until the next inflammation.

The fact is that conjunctivitis needs to be treated as quickly as possible, literally in the first hours, and what if there are no drops on hand and there is no way to run to the pharmacy?!

Then it’s better to have Okomistin in stock, even though it’s open, but it’s there, than none, literally before your first trip to the pharmacy it will help you out, as soon as you buy a new bottle of drops, throw away the old one immediately. I repeat, I recommend this method only for those who have chronic inflammation. Once a month, once every two months, if less, then my advice will not suit you.

Okomistin does not burn or sting after instillation, unlike albucid, but the antimicrobial effect is good. The drops are effective, I usually use them in combination. I drip Albucid for 2-3 days, then only Okomistin, treatment lasts 5-7 days, if the redness goes away, this does not mean that conjunctivitis is cured.

So Okomistin drops are without a doubt effective, but from my personal experience I can say that it is better to use different drops each time, it happens that an addictive effect occurs, and even effective and proven drugs become powerless. No more than 2 diseases in a row, then take other drops, I recommend, for example, Floxal eye drops.

Types of eye drops. What? To whom? When? Part one

Dear friends, hello!

Today's conversation will be about eye drops.

Many of you have been asking me about this for a long time.

In my opinion, on this topic you need to know the following:

  1. Symptoms of the main eye sores in order to competently advise the buyer.
  2. Types of eye drops: when, what and what they are used for.
  3. What can be recommended without a doctor for the most common eye problems?
  4. What questions should a buyer ask in order not to make a mistake with his choice?
  5. What information should be given to him when selling a drug from this group?

Of course, we will touch a little on the anatomy of the eye. But this information will be just enough so as not to kill your desire to read further.

We are not ophthalmologists, after all!

There are a carload of eye sores and a small cart, there are the same number of groups of eye drops, and the drugs in them are three times as many, if not more, so we will divide this conversation into several parts.

Types of eye drops

All eye drops can be divided into the following groups:

  1. Antimicrobial.
  2. Antiviral.
  3. Antiallergic.
  4. Anti-inflammatory.
  5. Drops for glaucoma.
  6. Drops for cataracts.
  7. Regenerating.
  8. Vasoconstrictors.
  9. Angioprotectors.
  10. Pupil dilation.
  11. Moisturizing.

Today we will look at the first three groups.

Antimicrobial eye drops

They are prescribed for BACTERIAL infection of the organ of vision.

There are different types of bacterial eye infections, but people most often visit the pharmacy because of purulent conjunctivitis, blepharitis or stye. I'm right?

First, let's understand the terminology.

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, i.e. mucous membrane covering the outside of the eyeball and the inside of the eyelids.

The conjunctiva protects the eye from dust, infections, and small foreign bodies that enter it in windy weather.

It also contains many small glands that produce the main components of tear fluid.

This liquid is enough for daily hydration and protection of the eye.

But when crying, the lacrimal gland comes into play, and then you can substitute a glass and collect the falling drops into it. 🙂

Normally, the conjunctiva is pale pink.

Its inflammation can be caused by microbes, viruses, and allergens. And, if you don’t delve deep into the jungle of ophthalmology, conjunctivitis is divided into bacterial, viral, and allergic.

The most important sign: purulent (yellowish) discharge from the eyes. It can be so strong that in the morning it causes the eyelids to stick together.

All these delights can be accompanied by a feeling of sand in the eye, lacrimation, and swelling of the eyelids. The eye turns red. And if you pull back the lower eyelid, the color of the mucous membrane instead of pale pink will be bright pink or even red.

Blepharitis is inflammation of the edges of the eyelids.

The edges of the eyelids are red, swollen, itchy, and scales or purulent crusts form on the eyelids. The latter are again characteristic of BACTERIAL infection.

Although the causes of blepharitis may be the same allergy or, for example, demodicosis - a sore caused by an opportunistic skin mite (in this case, eyelashes fall out).

A stye is actually a boil on the eyelid. This is a red dense pimple that grows and “prettier” day by day, in the sense of ripening, and with it the face of the barley owner becomes “prettier.” 🙂

After some time, the barley breaks through, the pus comes out, and the wound heals.

Now let's get back to our “rams”.

So here it is. If there are signs of a BACTERIAL eye infection on the face, or rather on the face, then antimicrobial agents are prescribed.

They are divided into 5 groups:

In more severe cases, fluoroquinolones, antibiotics and combination agents are recommended, in milder cases - sulfonamides and antiseptics.

Fluoroquinolones and antibiotics: most often fluoroquinolones are used in eye drops (Tsipromed, Tsiprolet, Oftaquix, Signicef, Normax, Vigamox, Floxal), less often - aminoglycosides (Tobrex), and Fucithalmic (fusidin group) and Levomycetin are also used.

Most of all, according to the description, I liked Floxal and Fucithalmic. And not because I love the letter “f” :-), but because if they can be prescribed from birth, then they are as safe as possible.

Although the instructions still say that they are contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women.

But all of the above drugs should, of course, be prescribed by a doctor.

Sulfanilamide is the good old Albucid, or sodium Sulfacyl. It can be used by both newborns and pregnant women, although the instructions include a clause that the latter should be prescribed by a doctor.

It is believed that microbial resistance to it does not arise.

True, it can’t cope with every infection. But at the pre-medical stage, we can safely recommend it.

Antiseptics: Vitabact and Okomistin.

Vitabact. A drug based on picloxidine. I didn’t find anything criminal in it: there are practically no contraindications or side effects (rarely allergic reactions). It can be dispensed without a prescription, including for children from birth.

It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, but given the description, I believe that it is also possible.

Okomistin is actually miramistin for the eyes. Dispensed by prescription. Contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women.

Combined drugs are a tandem of 1-2 antibiotics and a hormone.

These include Maxitrol, Sofradex, Garazon, Combinil-Duo. They have not only antibacterial, but also anti-inflammatory effects.

All of them must be prescribed by a doctor.

If the buyer has blepharitis or stye, it is better to offer not drops, but an eye ointment, for example, 1% tetracycline (eye).

But the doctor may prescribe Floxal or Tobrex ointment.

If there are no antimicrobial ointments in the range, then drops can be offered.

Well, if you have barley, you should also spit in the eye. The barley will be “scared” and dry up. 🙂

Only this should be unexpected: for example, a buyer reaches into his wallet for money, and you - ugh in his eye!

"Pharmacy for Humans" warns:

Spitting in a customer's eye can be harmful to your health. 🙂

The first group was dealt with. Go ahead.

Antiviral eye drops

They are prescribed when there is a VIRAL eye infection.

There are many of these diseases, including herpes infection.

But most often you have to deal with conjunctivitis, which occurs against the background of a cold.

As you remember, acute respiratory viral infections are caused by various types of viruses. Some of them “like” to settle in the nasal mucosa, causing rhinitis, others - in the bronchi, causing bronchitis, pneumonia, and some have chosen the mucous membrane of the eyes. For example, adenovirus.

How to recognize adenoviral conjunctivitis?

The discharge from the eye during this acute respiratory viral infection is light and light, the eyelashes do not stick together in the morning, the eye is red, the eyelids are slightly swollen. At first the process begins on one eye, but after a few days it moves to the other.

And most importantly: as a rule, there are other symptoms of a cold. These include fever, sore throat, runny nose, etc.

In this case, we can recommend:

Ophthalmoferon is a drug based on interferon. It has an antiviral effect and increases local immunity. The composition contains diphenhydramine, so Oftalmoferon also provides an anti-inflammatory effect. Can be used by pregnant women, breastfeeding women (preferably as prescribed by a doctor), and children from birth.

Aktipol. The active ingredient is aminobenzoic acid.

The drug is an interferon inducer, has an antioxidant effect and, in addition, accelerates corneal regeneration.

Therefore, it is also used after minor eye injuries, to improve the tolerability of contact lenses and reduce the time it takes to get used to them.

In this case, it is instilled in the morning before putting on contact lenses and in the evening after they are removed.

But if there is a viral infection, it is better not to wear lenses during treatment. However, as with any other infectious eye infection.

And I’ll also say something important: Actipol is not used with sulfonamides, i.e. with the same Albucid.

Often a viral infection is complicated by a bacterial one, so don’t be surprised if you see both an antiviral and an antibacterial drug in your doctor’s prescription.

Poludan is a lyophilisate for the preparation of eye drops. It is also an interferon inducer. Quite an old drug. It is inconvenient primarily because before use, the powder must be dissolved in 2 ml of water for injection. The prepared solution can be stored for no more than 7 days.

Two groups of drugs were analyzed. Let's move on to the third.

Antiallergic eye drops

How to recognize allergic conjunctivitis?

It's quite easy to recognize him.

The main symptom is itching, and terrible itching, which appears in a certain season during the flowering period of some plants.

True, there is year-round allergic conjunctivitis to dust, pet hair, and fish food. And sometimes it appears on new mascara or new washing powder that have not been used before.

As a result of constant scratching, the eyes become red, and they feel as if sand had been poured into them.

Other allergy symptoms help confirm that it is ALLERGIC conjunctivitis: runny nose, itchy skin, incessant sneezing.

Antiallergic eye products are divided into several groups:

First group. Stabilizers of mast cell membranes, from which histamine is released during an allergic reaction - the main culprit of all allergy symptoms.

This group includes: Lecrolin, Hi-Krom, Cromohexal eye drops. I already wrote once that these drugs are more preventative than therapeutic. They “work” if you start using them in advance.

They are prescribed to children, as a rule, from the age of 4. Pregnant and lactating women are contraindicated in the 1st trimester, and in the second and third, if necessary, can be prescribed by a doctor.

Second group. H1-histamine receptor blockers.

These are Allergodil and Opatanol.

Allergodil (azelastine) is contraindicated for children over 4 years of age, pregnant women in the 1st trimester and breastfeeding women.

Opatanol (olopatadine, rec.) not only blocks H1-histamine receptors, but also stabilizes mast cell membranes, and therefore is more effective than Allergodil.

Children - from 3 years old, pregnant and lactating women are not recommended.

Third group. Combined means.

Okumetil. Contains zinc sulfate, diphenhydramine (diphenhydramine) - 10 mg and naphazoline. It has antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and decongestant effects.

And thanks to the vasoconstrictor effect of naphazoline, it quickly removes redness of the eyes.

It would seem that this is what is needed!

But remember that the vasoconstrictor component gives a lot of side effects, and thanks to it the drug has many contraindications, including coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma. So it is better not to recommend it to older people. And you definitely need to ask the buyer questions about contraindications.

Children from 2 years old. Contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women.

Polynadim. It contains diphenhydramine (diphenhydramine) – 1 mg and naphazoline.

As you can see, the dosage of diphenhydramine, in contrast to that in Okumetil, is significantly lower, so the antiallergic effect is weaker.

It has all the same contraindications and side effects as the drug Okumetil.

If these local antiallergic drugs are ineffective, the DOCTOR brings in the heavy artillery: Dexamethasone eye drops or hydrocortisone eye ointment.

This is where we will probably end today's educational program. You need to “digest” everything properly. To make this process more fun, I offer you as homework:

  1. write a list of questions to ask a customer who comes to you for advice about a red eye.
  2. create a recommendation algorithm depending on his answers.

Can you handle it? Write your answers below the article in the comment box.

We will review your homework at the beginning of the next conversation.

That's all for today.

How did you like this article, friends? Is everything clear? What questions do you still have? What can you add based on your experience?

Marina, thank you very much for the article, I was really looking forward to it)) everything is very well sorted and understandable) what can you say about blepharogel 1 and 2 (what are their differences) and blepharolotion?) are they more like cosmetics? and they are better for blepharitis in combination with antimicrobial ointments or is it possible separately?) Thanks in advance

Gulnara, thank you for the interesting question!

Let's look at the composition of Blepharogel. These are hyaluronic acid and aloe, which have a moisturizing effect on the skin of the eyelids. And the certificate of conformity generally states that this is a gel for physiotherapy.

So, indeed, these gels have more of a cosmetic effect. Unlike Blefarogel 1, Blefarogel 2 also contains sulfur, which the demodex mite is afraid of. Therefore, Blefarogel 2 can be used in complex therapy of demodicosis. A sure sign of this disease is loss of eyelashes.

And Blepharolosion cleanses the skin of the eyelids, moisturizes and soothes after cosmetic products (mascara, eye shadow, etc.).

Marina, thank you, I’ve been waiting for so long, we’re waiting for antibiotics

Marina, thank you very much for the interesting article. You explained everything very clearly. I’m really looking forward to the continuation.

Hello! Thanks for the new article. The only thing I didn’t understand was the following point:

>But Normax and Tobrex, on the contrary, >are shown only to adults.

The instructions for Tobrex do not prohibit its use in childhood; from practice, it is prescribed to children, usually from the age of one year, or even earlier.

The instructions for Normax clearly indicate: for children from one year old.

Anton, thanks for the correction!

Apparently, on the state website. the register of medicines does not always contain up-to-date information. In particular, here are the instructions for Normax, which clearly indicate a contraindication for children under 18 years of age: grls.rosminzdrav.ru/Instr. 66316&t=&isOld=0

I found information on the prescription of Tobrex for children here: health.mail.ru/drug/tobrex/

But even if the instructions indicate age restrictions, the doctor can prescribe the drug from an earlier age at his own responsibility.

Well, here are the instructions from the same State Register. It’s just that there are instructions that were in force earlier, and there are the latest editions.

In the old edition, valid from 18 years of age.

Thanks for the clarification, Anton!

I would also like to ask your opinion and the opinion of your colleagues on the following question: is it possible to combine eye drops (except artificial tears) with lenses? For example, the same antiallergic drops, if you drip them 30 minutes before putting on lenses.

Anton, I think it is possible, if the instructions do not completely prohibit the use of contact lenses in parallel with the use of this product.

Thanks for the article, Marina! Not being an active primary physician, I am seeing half of the drugs for the first time. So you are bringing education to the masses)) I understand correctly that there will be a separate topic on moisturizers (“tears”, ophthalmic gels)

And I am very interested in the modern take on classic Visin drops.

When I worked in the department, it, as they say, flowed like a river. Not a harmless drug.

Yes, Nadezhda, I’ll try to sort them out.

Good afternoon. Our wonderful children's doctor prescribes interferon drops in the nose and eyes for ARVI. We have to explain to people the difference between eye drops and nasal drops. Thanks for the article, I always read it with interest.

Anna, once upon a time, when I was in my fifth year of college, I worked part-time as a night attendant in an eye clinic. And apparently she caught adenoviral conjunctivitis there. I believe that at that time there were no antiviral eye drops in pharmacies. And there was interferon, well known to you, in ampoules. I diluted it, it seems, with water for injection (although, perhaps, with ordinary boiled water) and dripped it into my eyes. That's what the doctor ordered.

So your wonderful doctor, maybe he’s wonderful because he’s “ancient”?

Maybe it’s worth conducting an educational program for him on modern antiviral drugs?

Good afternoon, Marina. Glad to see you again! I recently had a customer with “problem eyes.” He asked for antibacterial drops because it was like sand was poured into his eyes, and after eye surgery he asked for sulfacyl. I tell him that the cause may be of viral etiology and then it is unlikely to help, it is better in such situations to combine antibacterial drops with antiviral ones such as Poludanum, Ophthalmoferon. As a result, a couple of days later he came for half-dan, which was prescribed by the doctor.

Interesting situation, Oksana! Why at noon? is there a viral infection? Or increase local immunity? Antimicrobial agents are usually prescribed after surgery to prevent secondary infection.

But you and I can only guess. Thank you for your comment!

Dear Marina! THANK YOU so much for the “Cheat Sheets to the Chief Capital”! This is a significant help in your work. All of yours become read by the team!

Marina, I am immensely grateful to you for all the articles and cheat sheets (I enjoyed them like a child, because the idea of creating them for myself had been ripening for a long time). Unfortunately, there is not always time to thank you. It’s great that a lot of knowledge, chaotically wandering in my head, is sorted out on the shelves thanks to you! Thank you! Regarding eye medications, everything is very clear so far. By the way, our pediatricians often prescribe Tobrex to children. I'm looking forward to the continuation.

Marina, will there be a topic on laxatives?

Tatyana had no plans to deal with laxatives yet. But I signed myself up for the plan.

Marina, thank you for the useful and accessible articles. Please tell me what to recommend to a buyer who was working with a welding machine and *picked up bunnies*, his eyes are red, he can’t look, it hurts in his eyes.

Larisa, I think Korneregel will be suitable here: moisturizes, soothes, has an anti-inflammatory effect.

In addition, during welding work, burns of the cornea are possible, so dexpanthenol (the active ingredient of Korneregel) also regenerates the damaged mucous membrane.

What do you think, friends?

Our doctors prescribe Emoxipine and Diclofenac to those who have “picked up bunnies”.

You can’t do without NSAIDs (diclof)

Good evening! Now there is also an analogue of “Korneregel”, “Bepanten”, main drops in monodoses (although, from my own experience, I will say that in case of eye injury, the first one helps better). And “Bepanten” is more convenient in its release form, it is also used for “bunnies”.

Svetlana, thanks for the information! Dont know.

Thanks for the educational program! I have long been interested in the question of helping my eyes after welding work, and I already wanted to ask it, but I already found the answer in the comments.

I’m also very interested in the use of medicinal herbs: can they be recommended together with medications or separately.

I think inocaine and diclofenac will solve the problem

Hello, very good article, thank you very much. True, I would like to clarify about fluoroquinolones. Many people mistakenly consider them to be antibiotics, when they are not such, but are simply antimicrobial agents derived from fluoroquinolone. I think this is important.

Natalya, thanks for the clarification! Agree. Made adjustments to the article.

Good afternoon! Thank you very much. A very necessary article, special thanks for the cold cheat sheet!

Marina, hello! Wonderful article, so many visitors to your blog were looking forward to it and finally got it Hurray! I also offer cornegel to customers who come for drops after working with a welding machine. True, they don’t always take it, some people think it’s expensive. And last year, there was construction going on near the pharmacy and workers with the same problem (welding work) always came for emoxipine. Apparently because the instructions indicate corneal burns. And can I ask you a question? Recently I heard the following conversation at a pharmacy. The buyer asked for Tobradex, but it was not available and the pharmacist gave him Tobrex and dexamethasone. She told me to first take a drop of one drug, then a drop of another. Is it possible to let go like this?

Ksenia looked at the instructions for emoxipine and found that it protects the retina from the damaging effects of high-intensity light. Apparently, due to improved microcirculation of the eye. That is, it has a protective effect in this case.

And if they are already presenting with some symptoms (pain, irritation), then it is better to offer Korneregel.

And you know, Ksenia, I just thought that this is an excellent comprehensive solution for welders: in the morning, 1 drop of emoxipine to protect the retina from bright light, and in case of pain in the eyes, irritation - Korneregel.

A? How do you like this?

True, emoxipine is a prescription drug.

Regarding your second question.

It is always difficult for me to compete with pharmacists and pharmacists. You know the drugs better than me. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, what else are you going through? Or is it the same thing? 🙂

I can only speak from a medical point of view. This means that the person was prescribed drops that contain an antibiotic and a hormone to fight the infection and relieve inflammation and swelling. There were no drops in the pharmacy. But there is a separate antibiotic and a hormone needed. Why not bury them one by one? Surely the effect will be as expected?

Only if several drops are prescribed, you need to take a 5 minute break between instilling different drops so that the first drug penetrates the cornea.

Friends, connect! What do you think?

Combined medications were invented for simplicity and ease of use - you drop a drop or take a pill and you’re happy, and you don’t have to think about what comes first, what then and at what time. I do not see a problem if such a combination is replaced by two separate drugs, if they contain the same active ingredients as the combination drug. The specialist got out of the situation and did not refuse.

Thank you, Marina, for your answer. I remember that in college we studied pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in what is called a gallop across Europe. But for some reason we didn’t study the topic of eye drops at all. I remember that I bought a bunch of medical literature, magazines, reference books, including Vidal and Mashkovsky, and studied many myself questions to enter the job at least more or less prepared. And knowledge and experience only accumulate with practice. We didn’t cover many topics in college at all and had to study on our own, study and study again. Thank you, Marina, for having us!

Hello! Thank you for the interesting article! Your blog is very helpful for beginners in their work! I look forward to the continuation. I would like to ask you, at the end of the very last article about the types of eye drops, to analyze several situations regarding the correct and incorrect dialogue with the buyer regarding the choice of ophthalmic products.

Okay, Daria, let's sort it out.

Thank you for the very useful article, I generally “swim” in eye drops, in our pharmacy they are presented in a wide range, and I send all visitors to the doctor. Now in some cases I can be useful to people. Thanks a lot. I'm looking forward to the second part.

Somehow no one dares to become the 1000th subscriber! Anniversary!

Eat! Congratulations, Marina!

Thank you, Raisa! There would be more of them if everyone who subscribed activated the subscription. Unfortunately, 35 people for some reason did not do this. Maybe they didn’t receive the letter because it ended up in the “spam” or some other folder, or maybe they didn’t read carefully that you need to click on the link in the received letter. It's a pity. But, alas, I cannot influence this in any way.

Dear Marina! sos. order 386n dated June 30, 2015 - entered into force on January 1, 2016 - introduced on January 14, 2016 - there are no new prescription forms in medical institutions! Is retirement leave a violation of the law? - do not let go - leave the patient without medicine? I would like to know your opinion! If the question is in the wrong place, I apologize!

Dear Nina, with a sinking heart, I still got into this order, after which I wanted to award EVERY pharmacy employee a medal for reading and understanding the orders of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

How do you, friends, figure all this out? And how do you take care if you experience the same thing that Nina writes about?

Ninotchka, honestly, I’m not good at legal documents. In addition, I have a higher medical, not pharmaceutical education.

But my philistine opinion: YOU CAN’T LEAVE A SICK WITHOUT MEDICATION!

Friends, help! What to do in the described situation?

Great article. Everything is so concrete and laid out on the shelves!

Great article! Everything is neat and clear! I have a question about bunnies. Will solcoseryl eye gel also work? Several times girls let me go

Natalya, how do buyers describe these same “bunnies”?

Solcoseryl will not be superfluous, since the cornea is damaged to one degree or another after welding without observing safety precautions. But if a person complains of pain in the eyes, watery eyes, it is impossible to look at the light, and the eyes are red and swollen, then advise him to see a doctor immediately.

Thank you very much for your wonderful, informative articles! I would like to ask a question. Today a man went to the pharmacy with an eye injury, or rather, there was a cut in the eyebrow and a bruise in the eye, the eye was half red with a microhemorrhage. I, of course, immediately advised him to see a doctor, but he took it aggressively, and especially since there is a weekend ahead, specialists don’t accept it. What could you advise him?

Elmira, please be patient until tomorrow. I’m just writing a continuation article, where we’ll talk about this. Moreover, the man has already left.

Marinochka, thank you very much for the article, as always, everything is necessary. I join Ksenia, because at school, when we studied, this, of course, is not taught, it’s good that you are helping us, I am a thousand times grateful to you that I found you, This is irreplaceable help, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Good afternoon I express my gratitude to Marina, who perfectly describes drugs, real-life cases from practice, and gives interesting tasks to think about to reinforce the material! The article is very necessary to at least somehow navigate the drops. As noted above, in college, and even at the institute, practically no time is devoted to this topic, so we are forced to gain knowledge from the outside. And how wonderful it is that you are helping us figure everything out and sort everything out!

I would also like to respond to Nina’s comment:

"sos. order 386n dated June 30, 2015 - entered into force on January 1, 2016 - introduced on January 14, 2016 - there are no new prescription forms in medical institutions! Is retirement leave a violation of the law? "

— The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has extended until July 1, 2016 the period for using prescription forms, the form of which was approved in 2012.

Thank you for your kind words and for your answer to Nina’s question!

Hello! Marina, you are an excellent specialist, teacher, and author. Your subtle sense of humor simply amazes me. More than a thousand pharmacists/pharmacists use your information in their practice. Our patients are grateful to us, the leaders of the capital, for our qualified assistance, and we are grateful to you. Thank you!

Thank you Tatiana! I am very pleased to hear that.

My eye turned red today due to a cold - I quickly re-read the article. I was going to buy the usual albucid, but settled on ophthalmoferon

Great, Nadezhda, you chose the “right” drops.

I bless your eye

If purulent discharge suddenly appears in the corner of the eye, add antimicrobial drops to the ophthalmoferon.

Hello! Okomistin has contraindications for children and adolescents; it is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. You can write from 3 years of age and can be used. Has the manufacturer changed the instructions?

Larisa, I never tire of saying that I do not have access to instructions like pharmacy employees, since I do not work in a pharmacy. Therefore, I only use the information I find on the Internet. My first source was the State Register of Medicines, but for some reason there were no instructions for okomistin there.

Therefore, if you see any inaccuracy, I would be extremely grateful if you let me know. You can go here: nikafarm.ru/obratnaya-svyaz

I kindly ask you to once again clarify the age restrictions in the instructions for Okomistin and inform me. Thank you for your attention!

Hello. I went to the doctor and they said conjunctivitis. And they prescribed Ciprolet drops. Polynadim helped me a lot with itching in my eyes. Question: can these drops be used together?

After all, ciprolet does not relieve swelling and itching. And the hand just reaches out to scratch its eyes.

Yes, you can. Igor! The effects of these drops are different.

In September 2015, I had adenoviral conjunctivitis, dripping and poludan and oftamalferon and something else, I forgot). At the end of October of the same year, I was tested for the virus, and to my great surprise, I still had the virus. Here you go and ophtamalferon(

Olga, I also once had adenoviral conjunctivitis. There was no ophthalmoferon then, and I dripped regular interferon into my eyes. But besides this, there are 4 more types of drops (I don’t remember which ones - it was a long time ago, but definitely not antiviral). And in addition to this, the doctor prescribed me B vitamins (injected). I didn’t give the injections, they were too painful. And what? After this, the process spread to the cornea, keratitis developed, and corneal opacity remained for life.

Oh, how the doctor scolded me for not taking these injections! She said that the adenovirus is very afraid of B vitamins.

Moral: treatment must be comprehensive.

Thank you for the article! I’ll be honest, I’m not an expert in eye drops (except for the most basic and popular ones), but now I’m sitting and studying. Marina, I’m shocked, can an adenovirus really cause such serious consequences for the eye?! I never would have thought.

Alas, this is so, Zhenechka. I am one of the victims of the adenovirus.

Wonderful article, thank you [flower])) My questions and additions: 1). Recently I was studying and there the ophthalmologist very scolded the old eye medications (chloramphenicol, tetracycline, sulfacyl) because of their high resistance. Especially sulfacyl, because in addition to resistance of about 80%, it also has a huge “prickly” molecule that can cause irritation to the eyes, especially of children. I think it was used before, when there was nothing better, but now it’s time to give way to more modern antibacterial drops 2). Combined products with hormones are dangerous because any hormone causes local suppression of the immune system, and as a result, the eye “catches” the infection again and again. Medical prescription only! 3). If the instructions contain no information at all about the use of the drug in children and infants, how should this be assessed? What is possible and what is not? We were told that it was impossible. And I wouldn’t give the same floxal to a child for this reason. Perhaps I'm wrong?) 4). There is an opinion that to treat barley you need to take yeast. What do you think about this?

Vera, thanks for the additions (1,2).

3. If the instructions do not indicate the possibility of using the drug in infants and children, this means that it cannot be used in this group of patients.

Understand, Vera, the information in the instructions is sometimes corrected by manufacturers very quickly, and I, not working in a pharmacy, cannot keep track of it. At the time of writing, this drug was approved for use from birth.

IN ANY CASE, THE CHIEF MANAGER HAS NO RIGHT TO RECOMMEND ANY PRESCRIPTION DRUG INDEPENDENTLY. DO NOT TAKE ON THE FUNCTION OF A DOCTOR.

THERE ARE SITUATIONS WHEN YOUR BEST RECOMMENDATION WILL BE: “PLEASE CONSULT A DOCTOR!”

On the other hand, the doctor, if necessary, takes responsibility and can prescribe a drug at any age, regardless of what is written in the instructions.

4. Regarding brewer's yeast - if you suddenly see barley or another bacterial infection in the instructions for it, or find a clinical study proving its effectiveness against this problem, please let me know!

Now everything is clear about Floxal, thank you)) About prescription drugs. Eh, this is a sore subject. [:-|]. Of course we can’t, but the realities of life sometimes force us to. what to hide

Thank you, Marina, for the article. Here’s a question, about when welding got into the eye, people who value Korneregel, they buy chloramphenicol without hesitation, is it even possible and if not, what should the buyer be told about? And one more thing, but can Tobradex drops be used when there is bacterial conjunctivitis and very severe itching?

Veronica, welding damages the cornea, so in this case we need regenerating agents that heal it. And chloramphenicol and tobrex are antibacterial drops. Yes, they are also prescribed, but not for healing the cornea, but for the prevention of bacterial infection, so using only drops from this group is ineffective.

Severe itching usually accompanies allergic conjunctivitis. And in this case, antiallergic eye drops are indicated.

And bacterial conjunctivitis is manifested by redness of the eye, swelling of the eyelids, purulent discharge, and sticking of the eyelids after sleep.

Hello. Thank you for the article. What are the best eye drops for tired eyes?

Which eye drops are good for tired eyes?

Erkaim, eye fatigue is usually relieved with tear substitute eye drops. They are listed in this article: nikafarm.ru/vidy-glaznyx-. -algorithm-choice

The child has conjunctevitis (3.8 years old), Tsipromed, Oftolmoferon and Tetracycline ointment were prescribed for the night. The home medicine cabinet contains Vitabact. The question is: is it possible to replace Tsipromed with Vitabact? Is it worth it? or not worth it?

Thank you for your attention.

No, Yulia, you can’t. In terms of therapeutic effectiveness, they are not equivalent.

General information about antiseptic eye drops "Okomistin"

Okomistin eye drops are an antiseptic domestic drug widely used in the treatment of eye diseases.

It is effective against gram-negative, gram-positive (streptococci, staphylococci, etc.), anaerobic and aerobic bacteria, and suppresses hospital strains resistant to antibiotics.

The main active ingredient of the drug is miramistin. It is indicated for adenoviruses, herpes, chlamydia and pathogenic fungi.

Studies that tested eye drops confirmed the immunoadjuvant properties of the drug and proved its ability to enhance regenerative processes.

Instructions for use

Indications for use of drops

The drug is prescribed in the following cases:

  • acute, chronic conjunctivitis;
  • blepharoconjunctivitis;
  • chemical/thermal burn of the eye;
  • damage to the eye mucosa caused by gram-positive/gram-negative bacteria, viruses, fungi, chlamydia;
  • treatment and prevention of inflammatory and purulent complications during the post- or preoperative period.

Already on the first day of use, patients note a general improvement in the condition of the eyes: pain, burning, photophobia disappear, and the sensation of a foreign body disappears.

Composition, release form and storage

Okomistin is available in the form of eye drops, which are a clear, colorless liquid with a specific aroma. The drops are bottled in 10-milliliter plastic bottles equipped with a polymer cap in the form of a dropper, which are sold in cardboard boxes.

One milliliter of the above medicine contains 0.1 milligrams of benzyldimethyl in terms of anhydrous substance, as well as sodium chloride and purified water.

Okomistin should be stored in a place securely protected from small children, where the air temperature does not exceed 35 degrees Celsius. Freezing the drug is prohibited. The shelf life of these drops is three years from the date of issue, but after opening the bottle they should be used within one month.

Eye drops are produced by the Ukrainian enterprise JSC Farmak, located in Kyiv.

How to use correctly

To achieve maximum results when using Okomistin eye drops, the patient must adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. Before starting to instill eye drops, wash your hands and remove contact lenses (they are allowed to be put back on no sooner than a minute after instillation).
  2. Prepare a sterile cotton swab or paper napkin.
  3. Open the cap.
  4. Tilt your head back, slightly pull your lower eyelid (look up).
  5. Place one or two drops (it is advisable that the product gets into the inner corner of the eye).
  6. Close your eye and pat it dry with a tissue/cotton swab.

It is important that when instilling the drug, the tip of the bottle does not touch the upper eyelid and eyelashes (then the contents of the package will remain sterile).

If the doctor has prescribed other drops to be used along with Okomistin, the interval between their use should exceed 3-5 minutes.

If it is necessary to use eye ointment, it should be applied after instillation, otherwise it will not allow the drops to have a therapeutic effect.

In some situations, after using eye drops, patients experience burning and itching. These symptoms pass quickly.

If the discomfort makes itself felt constantly or is pronounced, it is necessary to consult with an ophthalmologist - perhaps the substances included in the drops cause an allergic reaction in the patient.

Dosage

When treating eye diseases, Okomistin is dripped 1-2 drops 4-6 times a day. If the drug is prescribed to prevent the development of inflammatory reactions, it is necessary to use it in a different dosage - 1-2 drops 3 times a day.

Typically, ophthalmologists recommend using this remedy a few days before surgery and half a month after it.

The article (here) contains reviews of Tetracycline ointment.

Beneficial features

The drops are characterized by numerous beneficial properties. By destroying fungi, herpes viruses and protozoa, they ensure rapid restoration of eye function and make bacteria susceptible to antibacterial therapy.

High selectivity towards pathogenic microorganisms eliminates the negative effect of the drug on human cells.

  • reduces treatment time for ophthalmological diseases;
  • provides increased local immunity;
  • starts epithelization processes, accelerates healing;
  • not absorbed through the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and lacrimal ducts;
  • does not have a mutagenic effect on the human body;
  • does not damage mucous membranes or skin;
  • effective in prevention, monotherapy and complex treatment of eye diseases;
  • does not cause pain.

The drug successfully copes with the diseases for which it is indicated and eliminates the deterioration of the patient’s well-being.

According to clinical data, Okomistin does not change the reaction speed, and therefore can be used by drivers and those whose professional activities require a high concentration of attention.

Contraindications for use

The use of the drug is unacceptable:

  • pregnant and lactating women;
  • children under 18 years of age;
  • with high sensitivity to the constituent components.

Okomistin is a medicine in the middle price category. Its estimated cost in cities of the Russian Federation is rubles. In Ukraine it is sold at a price of hryvnia.

Analogs

Analogues are drugs intended for the treatment of eyes, the main component of which is also miramistin. If it is impossible to purchase these drops, patients can replace it:

It is not recommended to arbitrarily replace the prescribed drug, since their composition is not 100% identical, and therefore there is a risk of minimizing the effectiveness of treatment.

Reviews

Patients respond differently to Okomistin drops. Some note the high effectiveness of this drug and claim that it helped them get rid of unpleasant symptoms in a couple of days. And others testify that due to unpleasant side effects they had to stop using Okomistin.

Patients cite the affordable cost of this drug as one of the main advantages of Okomistin, but consider the disadvantages to be inconvenience of use and too short a shelf life after unpacking.

Doctors say that Okomistin drops do an excellent job. They not only disinfect eye tissues and relieve symptoms of infectious diseases, but also enhance the effect of other antibacterial drugs that are used in complex therapy.

Results

  1. Okomistin is a modern antiseptic anti-inflammatory eye drops with a broad spectrum of action. They provide effective treatment for eye diseases that are difficult to respond to antibiotic therapy.
  2. Patients over the age of 18 can use drops for treatment and prevention. The drug is contraindicated for lactating and pregnant women.
  3. Analogs of the drug are Miramistin, Miramistin-Darnitsa, Dezmistin and Miramidez.
  4. The estimated cost of the drops is rubles in Russia and in Ukraine.
  5. If, after using the drops, unbearable itching and pain occur, the patient should stop using them and ask the ophthalmologist to choose a different treatment option for him.

Levomycetin eye drops

Chloramphenicol does not sting the eyes, it is albucid that stings. I think you have a blockage of the nasolacrimal duct, you need to do a massage there. go to the ophthalmologist

and don’t be afraid to drip chloramphenicol

The older one was helped by albucit, and the younger one was treated with chloramphenicol in 2 days.

Drip what the doctor prescribed. And go see an ophthalmologist.

Levomecitin + any antiseptic is the best thing you can do for your child’s eyes. Drip once every 4 hours, rinse much more often. With a cotton pad. The drops don't sting your eyes, but don't drip from the refrigerator - it's unpleasant.

Ocular of course! I just dropped it on myself once and it stung my eyes.

I always keep Levomycetin and Furacilin in my medicine cabinet. If there are suspicions of conjunctivitis, I immediately start wiping with a solution of furatsilin (I crush the tablet and dilute it with water) and drop drops. It goes by quickly.

rinse well with furatsilin. The causes may be microbes or bacteria, in one case it’s good - okomistin, and in others sulfacyl.

Okomistin

pharmachologic effect

This antiseptic drug in ophthalmic practice is intended for topical use. The action is based on the active substance benzyldimethyl (miramistin), which acts on bacteria resistant to antibiotic therapy. Miramistin exhibits fairly high selectivity, without having any particular effect on the membranes of human cells. At the same time, the spectrum of its action includes the vast majority of causative agents of inflammatory eye diseases, including viruses and chlamydia.

  • keratitis;
  • acute and chronic conjunctivitis;
  • keratouveitis;
  • blepharoconjunctivitis;
  • various eye injuries;
  • as a prophylactic agent for purulent-inflammatory complications;
  • thermal burns of the eyes.

Therapeutic effect

As a therapeutic agent, it is effective for the prevention of complications of inflammatory eye diseases. It has properties in which treatment is etiotropic, pathogenetic and activates regenerative processes. Okomistin ensures the complexity of this approach to treatment. The drug has an effect on gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, including hospital strains with increased resistance to antibacterial agents. Effective against various types of fungi (yeast and yeast-like), ascomycetes and dermatophytes. The characteristic anti-inflammatory activity of the drug helps to enhance recovery processes, resolves areas of corneal opacification, and stimulates lymphocytes.

Okomistin is most effective against staphylococci and streptococci. Under its influence, the resistance of fungi to antimicrobial drugs is significantly reduced. Quite often, those pathogens that could previously be characterized by resistance to other chemotherapeutic drugs turn out to be sensitive to okomistin. This is due to the effect of the drug on the membrane of the pathogen. As a result of the use of okomistin, it is possible not only to influence the course of the infectious-inflammatory process, but also to significantly reduce the incidence of allergic manifestations. In chronic conjunctivitis, okomistin has proven itself to be positive even in cases where it was not possible to immediately determine the causative agent of the disease, or it was caused by a combination of pathogens. When applied topically, there is no systemic absorption of the drug into the systemic circulation.

Forms of release of okomistin

The drug is available in the form of eye drops. It is packaged in 10 ml polymer bottles, which are supplied with a dropper cap and instructions. The cardboard package contains one bottle of the drug. In addition to benzyldimethyl, which contains 0.1 mg, the drug also contains water and sodium chloride. Special bottles allow for precise dosing and control over this process, as well as for opening the bottle, protection from light sources and control over the remaining amount of the drug.

Okomistin should be stored in a room where the ambient temperature does not exceed 35 degrees Celsius for no more than 3 years. The solution must not be frozen. Storage locations should be out of reach of children and out of direct sunlight. After opening the bottle, the drops can be used throughout the day.

Directions for use, doses

The solution is for topical use only. Before using the drug, you must wash your hands thoroughly. During the instillation process, which is carried out into the conjunctival eye sac, contact of the dropper with foreign objects, as well as with the mucous membrane of the eye and skin, should be avoided. The regimen of use and duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician - an ophthalmologist.

In combination with other antimicrobial agents, the effectiveness of treatment can be increased. In case of simultaneous use of several drugs, a 15-minute interval should be maintained between instillation of different drugs. Due to the fact that okomistin is able to reduce the resistance of viruses to antimicrobial drugs, in some cases this makes it possible to reduce the dose in the case of systemic use of drugs of this group. As a result, the severity of their side effects will be reduced.

Instructions for use

The use of the drug promotes rapid recovery in the case of inflammatory eye diseases, reduces the number of possible relapses, prolongs remission in diseases such as chronic conjunctivitis, and prevents postoperative complications.

Okomistin in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory eye diseases

The solution is instilled into each affected eye, 1 or 2 drops. Depending on the severity of the ongoing inflammatory processes, the procedure is performed 4 to 6 times throughout the day. Drops should be used until complete recovery.

Okomistin for ocular thermal and chemical burns

After washing the eyes, it is necessary to instill 1-2 drops of the drug under the lower eyelid every 5-10 minutes for two hours. After this, you should switch to using okomistin in the form of rinsing baths.

Okomistin as a prophylactic agent

1-2 drops of solution are instilled into each eye 3 times a day. This procedure is carried out within 3 days before surgery and for two weeks after it.

Side effects during use

Most often, the drug is quite well and consistently tolerated by patients. In some cases, irritation and itching may occur immediately after instillation of the medication. Some cases of burning or allergic reactions go away on their own, without requiring additional medical intervention.

There is no data on possible adverse reactions of the body to an overdose of the drug. If you accidentally take okomistine orally in large quantities, it is necessary to perform gastric lavage and take absorbent agents.

Contraindications

The drug is not recommended for use in patients who may have an individual intolerance to miramistin. It is not advisable to use okomistin in nursing mothers and pregnant women. In any case, the question of its use during pregnancy should be agreed with the attending physicians. It is recommended to avoid using the drug in pediatric practice.

The use of okomistin does not require any special actions. It is instilled in the same way as any other eye drops. The head should be tilted back, and a drop of the drug should be instilled into the open eye directly into the conjunctival sac. It is recommended to carefully blink your eyelids and also remain at rest for a few minutes so that the medicine is absorbed into the eye tissues.

Before taking the drug, patients who wear any type of contact lenses should be sure to temporarily remove them to avoid damage. Lenses should be re-putted no earlier than a quarter of an hour after instillation. During treatment with okomistine, you should refrain from driving vehicles or performing activities that require increased concentration or reaction speed. In any case, before taking the drug, it is highly advisable to undergo the necessary examination by an ophthalmologist.

Okomistin: reviews

I had to change Okomistin to Albucid, because after 3 days of use it only got worse. It wasn't just in the morning that my eyes were stuck together. and throughout the whole day pus flowed out of them. A terrible sight, of course...

A very inconvenient pipette and does not work as quickly as, for example. the same Floksal. But they also cost much less. Therefore, the price corresponds to the quality.

Very good drops. Didn't cause any burning or irritation. Cured conjunctivitis in no time!
