    Inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis) is characterized by localized discomfort and pain in the throat. It is necessary to know the basic principles of nutrition during a sore throat, so that food does not cause additional discomfort and gives the body the energy it needs to fight the disease.

    General rules for organizing nutrition for sore throat

    It is important to choose the right diet during a sore throat - food passing through the throat can provoke increased pain, so doctors recommend sticking to a gentle diet. In addition, during a sore throat, the body fights toxins - in particular, the liver actively fights them, and if it is also loaded with heavy food, the patient’s well-being will only worsen.

    When preparing a diet for angina, you must adhere to the following rules:

    • the diet should contain a reduced amount of fast carbohydrates (up to 300 g per day), it is necessary to limit the consumption of protein and fat (up to 70 and up to 60 g per day, respectively);

    Sore throat (acute tonsillitis) is a disease characterized by acute inflammation of one/several lymphoid formations (usually the tonsils) of the pharyngeal ring and belongs to the group of widespread diseases of the upper respiratory tract. The main causative agent of bacterial acute tonsillitis is β-hemolytic streptococcus of group A, less often - streptococci of groups C and G.

    It is manifested by an increase in temperature to 37.5-39 ° C, general malaise, headache, chills, intense sore throat, aggravated by swallowing, sometimes myalgia/arthralgia, vomiting, nausea, moderate abdominal pain. The tonsils are swollen, hyperemic, sometimes with purulent plaque, the back wall of the pharynx is hyperemic. Depending on the nature of the damage to the tonsils, catarrhal, lacunar, and follicular forms of tonsillitis are distinguished. In severe forms of the disease, there is a high risk of developing complications such as otitis media, peritonsillar abscess, laryngitis, pyelonephritis, articular rheumatism, and rheumatic carditis.

    Treatment of angina is complex and includes antibiotic therapy, antipyretics, local treatment with antimicrobial drugs (rinses, inhalations), immunostimulation of the body, and diet therapy. The diet for sore throat is based on treatment table No. 13, common to various infectious diseases. The main goals of therapeutic nutrition are:

    • physiologically complete provision of the body with food nutrients;
    • sparing the mucous membrane of the oropharynx;
    • decreased intoxication/increased overall body resistance.

    The diet for tonsillitis involves reducing the total energy value to the level of kcal/day by reducing the fat content in the diet to 70 g/day, which is the lower limit of the physiological norm and carbohydrates - kg/day.

    At the same time, the protein content must correspond to the age norm. Reducing the fat content in the diet is due to the need to reduce the load on the digestive tract due to the difficulty of digesting them, and carbohydrates - to the need to reduce fermentation processes in the intestines and prevent the development of a hyperglycemic reaction during high temperatures.

    Since with angina the process of swallowing is difficult, and a painful diet should be as gentle as possible with the exception of fatty and fried, hard-to-digest, irritating the oral mucosa and containing coarse fiber products:

    • fatty varieties of red meat (lamb, pork) and waterfowl (duck, goose);
    • soups from legumes, millet, fatty broths, borscht;
    • sauces based on fatty meat/fish/mushroom broths;
    • fried foods;
    • salty fatty cheeses;
    • heavy cream/sour cream;
    • smoked meats, marinades, canned products;
    • whole milk, hard-boiled and fried eggs;
    • cakes/pasties with cream;
    • turnips, radishes, onions, radishes, garlic, rutabaga;

    The content of table salt is 6-10 g/day, the amount of free liquid is at least 2.5 l/day, and in case of severe intoxication up to 3 liters. The diet must include foods rich in vitamins (A, C and B) and minerals.

    Sources of vitamin A are: fish oil, hard cheeses, chicken egg yolk, butter, liver. Vitamin C is found in rose hips, citrus fruits, currants, and sea buckthorn. B vitamins are found mainly in cottage cheese, offal, yeast, eggs, rice, soybeans, cheeses, millet, and meat. Taking vitamin-mineral complexes has a positive effect.

    Culinary processing of products - boiling or steaming followed by pureeing/pureeing. Meals are fractional, in small portions 6-7 times a day. After the sore throat decreases and the temperature decreases, the diet can be gradually expanded.

    In the acute period, for local treatment, rinses of the oropharynx with various antimicrobial agents of targeted symptomatic action (Strepsils, Strepsils Plus - tablets/spray), sodium bicarbonate, boric acid, potassium permanganate, furatsilin, herbal remedies (chamomile, sage decoctions) are used.
