It can be present in human cells for a long time as a latent infection. Most often, children are susceptible to the disease; outbreaks of the disease occur all the time.
At the first stage, mononucleosis is an acute infectious disease caused by infection with the Epstein-Barr virus from the herpes group. The virus affects the enlargement of lymph nodes, but the lymph nodes of the neck are most affected. There is an increase in the important organs of the spleen and liver, and inflammatory processes occur in the heart muscle.
The infectious mononucleosis virus is a common occurrence these days, especially in childhood. The disease usually occurs in mild forms and is therefore very difficult to diagnose. The main feature of the virus is damage to lymphoid tissue. Which is found in the lymph nodes, tonsils, liver, spleen. It is these organs that are most susceptible to mononucleosis.
Mononucleosis or glandular fever, monocytic tonsillitis, Pfeiffer's disease, etc. is a disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Infectious mononucleosis treatment
The disease that we decided to tell you about has many names. In 1887, while studying the feverish state of patients, accompanied by enlarged lymph nodes, N.F. Filatov called the disease “idiopathic inflammation of the lymph glands.” The disease received an official name after its researcher and became known as Filatov’s disease.
But, two years later, a scientist from Germany Pfeiffer, having studied the clinical picture of the disease and finding that it was accompanied by inflammation of not only the lymph nodes, but also the pharynx, called it glandular fever. Later, when blood testing came into practice, American scientists discovered that with this disease, the patient’s blood changes its composition. It was after this study that the disease received its current name, infectious mononucleosis. It was only in the sixties of the twentieth century that Epstein and Barr isolated a herpes-like virus that causes the disease. It got its name from the names of scientists - the Epstein-Barr virus.
But let's return to the variety of disease names. In addition to the above, it has several more names. This is monocytic tonsillitis, benign lymphoblastosis and the names apparently given to it by the people are “students’ disease” and “kissing disease”. It is these popular names that give an accurate definition of the reasons why a person can get sick.
Infectious mononucleosis is a viral disease. It is transmitted from a carrier of the virus to a healthy person through airborne droplets, through saliva during a kiss, or sharing utensils and hygiene items with a patient. Student's disease occurs most often between the ages of fourteen and twenty years. This is explained simply. Young people begin to show interest in the opposite sex, first feelings, hugs and kisses flare up. This is how the infection spreads among this age group. And if the sick person lives in a student dormitory or boarding school... then there is no need to explain the pattern of transmission of the virus. Everything is extremely simple - young people are so careless that they often don’t think about observing the conventions of yours and mine in common rooms.
A person who has been ill once develops a strong immunity to the virus, so he is not in danger of getting sick again, with the exception, however, of HIV-infected people. But you should know that if you have had infectious mononucleosis, the virus will remain with you for life.
Symptoms
After infection with the Epstein-Barr virus, it usually takes seven days until the first symptoms appear. But in rare cases, the incubation period can last three weeks. The first manifestations of the disease can be confused with a banal acute respiratory infection. The person begins to feel weakness, aching in the joints and muscles. Sore throat, headaches. The temperature rises. And only then the symptoms characteristic of infectious mononucleosis are added - inflammation of the lymph nodes, the liver and spleen increase in size. A blood test shows the presence of atypical mononuclear cells. Herpes rashes appear on the skin.
In some cases, only one of the symptoms may be present, but in a pronounced form.
Complications
There are almost no complications. Very rarely - otitis media, pneumonia, sinusitis. Even less common are heart or liver failure, spleen damage, anemia, and tonsillitis.
Traditional treatment
There is no special treatment, it all depends on the symptoms. They use medicines for pain, fever and general strengthening drugs, the main purpose of which is to strengthen and maintain the immune system. If the disease is complicated by side effects, antibiotics are prescribed.
It is recommended to exclude physical activity, since rupture of the spleen is possible with this disease.

Great information. For the fifth week I treated the child to no avail. We studied a lot of information, we understand that mononucleosis can drag on for 1.5 years, but I would like at least the slightest improvement. Everything in this information is extremely simple and clear.
TREATMENT OF INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS WITH FOLK REMEDIES
The disease that I want to tell you about today has several names. Back in 1887, the Russian doctor Filatov Nil Fedorovich deeply studied the feverish state of patients, which was accompanied by enlarged lymph nodes. Then he called this disease – idiopathic inflammation of the lymph glands. Later, the disease received the name of its researcher and was called Filatov’s disease.
After some time, German scientists studied the entire clinical picture of the disease and then it was discovered that the disease was also accompanied by inflammation of the pharynx, and not just the lymph nodes. Then the scientist Pfeiffer called it “glandular fever.” Later, when blood testing entered medical practice, the Americans discovered that human blood with this type of disease significantly changes its composition. Only after this study the disease received the name infectious mononucleosis, which is still used today.
The disease has very diverse names. In addition to those that I listed above, it also has a couple more names: student and kissing disease, monocytic tonsillitis and benign lymphoblastosis. It is the first names that give the most accurate definition of where a person can become infected.
This disease is viral in nature. Infection occurs from a virus carrier in several ways:
- Airborne;
- Kiss, infection through saliva;
- Sharing utensils and personal hygiene items with an infected person;
Those who have had this virus at least once develop very strong immunity. There is no risk of a person getting sick again; the only exception may be HIV-infected people. But remember that this virus stays with you forever.
Main symptoms of the disease
The incubation period of the disease is 7 days. In rare cases, the first symptoms may appear three weeks after infection. A person can attribute the very first symptoms to an acute respiratory disease. Weakness, body aches, pain in the throat and head appear, and body temperature rises. After some time, characteristic symptoms of the disease appear - inflammation of the lymph nodes, enlargement of the liver and spleen. A blood test can detect the presence of antipyretic mononuclear cells. The first herpes rashes also appear on the patient’s skin. Sometimes only one symptom may be present and of a pronounced nature.
Possible complications after the disease
There are almost no complications after infectious mononucleosis. In rare cases, inflammation of the ear, lungs or sinusitis may occur. Extremely rare - sore throat or liver failure.
Treatments with traditional methods
A traditional disease directly related to the symptoms of the disease. Mostly drugs are used that strengthen and support the patient’s immunity. Infectious mononucleosis
Last edited by eleonora 01/27:20
Damage to the entire complex of important organs of the body can lead to serious consequences; therefore, treatment of infectious mononucleosis should be carried out in a timely manner.
How does infectious mononucleosis develop?
Mononucleosis is extremely rare in adults. Infectious mononucleosis in adults is rather an anomalous phenomenon. Epstein-Barr virus most often affects children, but in adults it is much more difficult to get this disease.
The first symptoms of infectious mononucleosis
The feeling of fatigue and weakness reaches its peak at about 2 weeks of illness;
Increased body temperature is most often observed after lunch and in the late afternoon. The temperature can reach 40–40.5 C;
Pharyngitis is characterized by redness of the throat mucosa, pain, and the development of purulent sore throat;
Lymphadenitis, characterized by damage to the cervical, axillary, submandibular and inguinal lymph nodes. Enlarged lymph nodes are most often painless.
As a rule, mononucleosis in children ends with complete recovery. But in some cases, serious consequences of mononucleosis are observed:
neurological complications: polyneuropathy, encephalitis, meningitis, mental disorders;
hematological complications: decrease in the number of platelets, death of red blood cells, decrease in the number of white blood cells;
febrile syndrome, pneumonia, uveitis;
splenic rupture is a serious complication of mononucleosis, accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure, severe abdominal pain and fainting.
According to some reports, viral mononucleosis can cause such serious cancers as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt's lymphoma. Due to such serious consequences, if infectious mononucleosis is detected in children, treatment must be qualified and immediate.
Infectious mononucleosis is a disease that usually has a favorable prognosis. In more than 70% of cases, patients return to their usual lifestyle within two weeks.
