Treatment of laryngitis in adults - folk remedies

Laryngitis. Treatment in adults with folk remedies.

Hello dear readers. Have you ever encountered laryngitis, in other words, loss of voice. Teachers often have this problem. Last year my daughter’s teacher at school also had laryngitis, they came to the meeting, and she could barely speak.

Table of contents:

My mother suffered from loss of voice, but she was treated only with folk remedies.

Today I want to talk about laryngitis, namely, I’ll tell you how my mother treated laryngitis with folk remedies at home, and the doctor advised her to use folk remedies. I am writing that it can help adults, but I don’t know how to treat children, since I haven’t encountered it, so I won’t say anything on this issue. Mom managed without antibiotics, but was cured with traditional treatment.

Laryngitis affects the vocal cords, making it difficult to speak. In case of acute laryngitis, it is generally recommended to speak less, or even better, to remain silent for at least a few days.

Acute laryngitis occurs when you are overcooled, when you drink cold drinks and food, when you have a stuffy nose, or if you breathe through your mouth on the street.

Laryngitis manifests itself as loss of voice, hoarseness, sore throat, and dry cough. By the way, if you have a sore throat, I can recommend folk remedies, namely, what is used in our family for a sore throat, you can read everything in the article “Sore throat, treatment with folk remedies.” There may be an increase in body temperature, but as a rule, with timely treatment, laryngitis goes away within 5-7 days.

But, I want to note, if you are choking, cannot swallow, and have a very high temperature, then self-medication is inappropriate here, you need to call a doctor or go to a doctor’s clinic.

Laryngitis. Symptoms of the disease.

  • Increased body temperature.
  • Pain when swallowing, sore throat, dry throat.
  • Difficulty breathing (caused by swelling or spasms).
  • Hoarse and silent voice.
  • Dry "barking" cough.

General recommendations for laryngitis.

  • Do not drink alcohol under any circumstances, many people mistakenly think that if you drink alcohol, you burn your throat, but this is not true, alcohol can cause swelling even more.
  • Avoid spicy, salty, and spicy foods during treatment. It is recommended to eat everything warm and pureed.
  • Drink warm drinks, you need to drink a lot, it can be tea with lemon, uzvar, compote and other drinks.
  • If you have laryngitis, it is advisable not to talk for several days.
  • There should be humid air in the room. It is also advisable to ventilate the room.
  • If you smoke, give up cigarettes and coffee during treatment.
  • Do not eat cold foods or drink cold drinks.

Alternative treatment for laryngitis gives positive results; in adults, if all recommendations are followed, laryngitis goes away faster.

For laryngitis, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids, you can drink milk with cocoa butter, alkaline mineral water. You can do inhalations with soda and oil. You can apply warm compresses.

Laryngitis treatment with folk remedies.

To cure laryngitis, folk remedies are used that have an anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, analgesic and emollient effect.

Milk with cocoa butter (or regular butter) and honey. I wrote a lot on the blog about cocoa butter, you can buy it in any pharmacy, and you can buy it in the city at exhibitions. If you still don’t have cocoa butter, then you can drink milk with regular butter. I usually add half a teaspoon of butter to a glass of milk. I buy milk fresh and boil it. You can also add a little honey to taste, but you can do without it. The oil is very good at soothing a sore throat.

Anise seeds for laryngitis. My mother cured laryngitis with this very remedy, and the doctor recommended this remedy to her. For a glass of milk we need a tablespoon of anise seeds, boil the milk with the seeds. Leave the broth for 15 minutes, strain, add a spoonful of honey. You need to drink warm milk with anise seeds, one tablespoon every 30 minutes. This remedy quickly helps restore your voice.

Figs with milk. In fact, this is an excellent remedy that is used for sore throat, hoarseness, milk with figs and cough. When warm, milk with figs soothes and softens an irritated throat. Add 2-3 dry figs to a glass of milk, boil for a couple of minutes, wrap and leave. Milk is drunk warm 5-6 times a day, three tablespoons each, and figs can be eaten. You can read more about the benefits of milk with figs in the article “Milk with figs for coughs.”

Herbal inhalations. You can make inhalations from herbs; sage, chamomile, coltsfoot, thyme, St. John's wort, linden, and calendula are suitable. We brew the herb at the rate of one spoon per half liter of water. We breathe over the steam, wrapped in a towel, doing everything carefully so as not to burn our throat.

Honey and carrot juice. For coughs, runny nose, sore throat, and hoarseness, the cheapest folk remedy is honey and carrot juice. You need to squeeze the juice out of the carrots, mix the fresh juice in a 1:1 ratio with natural honey. Take honey and carrot juice 5-6 times a day, a teaspoon.

Cabbage juice for laryngitis. Cabbage juice helps restore your voice. You need to squeeze the juice out of cabbage and take it a tablespoon 5-6 times a day, warm. After drinking cabbage juice, it is advisable not to bathe anything for at least half an hour.

Infusion of viburnum berries. An infusion of viburnum berries is a unique anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agent that helps with high fever, runny nose, colds, and sore throat. Usually in the fall I prepare viburnum, grind it with sugar and put it in the refrigerator, you can mix viburnum with honey. You can store the berries fresh. A handful of fresh viburnum berries should be mashed, pour boiling water, cover and leave for about minutes. Strain the infusion and add honey to taste. Drink a glass several times a day. But people with low blood pressure should take an infusion or decoction of viburnum very carefully.

Aloe juice with honey. For laryngitis, mix aloe juice with natural honey in a 2:1 ratio, take a teaspoon three times a day.

Yolk, butter, honey (sugar). If you lose your voice, a mixture of yolk and butter helps restore it faster. Eggs must be fresh, preferably homemade. Beat the yolk until white, add a gram of butter and a spoonful of honey or sugar. Grind everything well, take a teaspoon three times a day. Store the mixture in the refrigerator.

For laryngitis, if within a few days treatment with folk remedies does not give the desired results or the symptoms worsen, consult a doctor without delay. Because not only can laryngitis become chronic, but it can also cause complications.

Your article is very helpful. Today I got up, but my voice was gone, my throat hurts... I will use your recipes immediately!

The throat is a sore point for me! My daughter has a constant sore throat and therefore coughing. We go and see doctors, but to no avail 🙁

Those folk remedies that you listed are also great for common colds and sore throats. So the advice is very good. Since my pregnancy and breastfeeding, I have completely stopped using medications, and I am coping well with traditional medicine. Thanks for the useful article!

And we treat laryngitis with serviceberry jam. It simply copes with the task assigned to it perfectly.

This is an unpleasant thing - laryngitis. I always take treatment when the need arises, only using traditional methods and it definitely helps.

An excellent assortment of folk remedies to combat not only laryngitis, but also colds. Many are known and really help. Thank you.

For laryngitis, I was prescribed inhalations with Prospan. It helps very well, especially has a positive effect on dry coughs. But rinsing removes soreness well. I brew several herbs (thyme, chamomile, linden) and alternate them. The effect is wonderful.

Symptoms and signs

Laryngitis is a disease associated with inflammation of the mucous tissues of the larynx.

Inflammatory processes affect not only the larynx, but also the walls of the oral cavity and vocal cords.

The disease can occur in acute or chronic form.

Acute laryngitis occurs for various reasons. It is often a symptom of an infectious disease such as ARVI, influenza, whooping cough and measles.

Laryngitis can also be a reaction to hypothermia, excessive strain on the vocal cords, inhalation of harmful substances, or drinking too cold drinks. If a rash appears on a child’s face, then the photo with explanations can be studied after clicking on the link.

Timely treatment allows you to get rid of the disease in 10 days or even faster.

In the absence of therapy, as well as in case of non-compliance with the doctor’s recommendations and frequent relapses, the acute form of laryngitis can become chronic.

Smoking, constant hypothermia, work associated with overstrain of the vocal cords, pathologies of the nose and sinuses, frequent colds - all this contributes to the transition to a chronic form.

Separately, allergic laryngitis is distinguished, which develops upon contact with allergens (smoke, gas, chemicals), and phlegmonous laryngitis, a purulent inflammatory process of the submucosal tissue of the larynx.

The disease begins with an increase in temperature. The following symptoms then appear:

  • weakness and malaise appear;
  • the throat is sore, dry and burning is felt, swallowing is accompanied by pain;
  • the voice becomes rougher and hoarse;
  • a cough appears, first dry, and then with the discharge of wet sputum;
  • sometimes there is pain when inhaling and exhaling;
  • breathing becomes difficult, attacks of suffocation occur (with allergic laryngitis).

Treatment at home

Treatment of laryngitis does not require hospitalization and is carried out at home.

The exception is the severe chronic form of the disease, which requires long-term hospital treatment.

It is very important not to let the disease progress and get rid of it in a timely manner. When the first signs of illness occur, you should seek help from a doctor.

Treatment of the disease is aimed primarily at eliminating the factor that provoked the disease.

If its development is provoked by a viral infection, drug treatment is carried out using antiviral drugs or antibiotics (if the infection is bacterial in nature).

The allergic form of laryngitis requires the use of antihistamines. Expectorants can help ease the passage of mucus.

In the first week of the disease, it is very important to observe a “silence regime”, that is, not to speak even in a whisper, so as not to strain the affected throat.

The patient is advised to drink warm water. Useful:

Excessively hot, cold, salty and spicy foods that injure the laryngeal mucosa should be excluded. Smoking and drinking alcohol are also contraindicated for the patient.

For any form of laryngitis, a speedy recovery is facilitated by various rinses, inhalations, compresses and ingestion of healing infusions and mixtures.

As an improvised inhaler, you can use a container in the form of a pan or a wide bowl.

An ordinary teapot with a long funnel made of dense material attached to its neck is also well suited for this purpose.

The container is filled with a healing solution and brought to a boil.

After it has cooled slightly for 10 minutes, the patient is covered with a towel and allowed to breathe over the steam.

At the same time, it is important to ensure that the steam is not too hot and does not burn the mucous membrane of the larynx.

The duration of inhalation is from 6 to 8 minutes. It is recommended to do it up to 3 times a day.

For an hour after the procedure, it is forbidden to eat, drink or talk, and it is best for the patient to lie down and rest. The following can be used as an inhalation solution:

  • herbal decoction of mint, fir, chamomile, calamus, eucalyptus, sage, etc.;
  • soda solution;
  • mineral water;
  • sea salt (3 tablespoons diluted in a liter of water);
  • essential oil added to water (3 to 5 drops):
    • eucalyptus;
    • juniper;
    • tangerine;
    • lavender;
    • carnations;
    • lemon;
    • mint, etc.;
  • garlic or onion infusion.

An old recipe that you shouldn’t forget about is great for laryngitis: inhalation using potatoes. The benefits and harms of oat bran are written here.

To do this, you need to boil the potatoes in their skins, drain the water and breathe over them for about 10 minutes.

For better results, you can place boiled potatoes on dry mint, eucalyptus or chamomile leaves.

For inhalation, you can use a special steam inhaler.

It is very easy to use, but it has the disadvantage that it is difficult to control the temperature of the steam.

You can also use a modern device such as a nebulizer to treat laryngitis.

The principle of its operation is based on dispersed spraying of a mixture of saline solution and ready-made medications (hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, lazolvan, etc.). The composition of the solution must be agreed with the doctor.

Treatment with inhalations has the following contraindications:

  • elevated temperature;
  • respiratory dysfunction;
  • tendency to nosebleeds;
  • diseases of the heart and blood vessels;
  • presence of an allergy to the components of the inhalation solution.

Cold inhalations are recommended for patients with cardiovascular system disorders, insomnia and increased nervous excitability.

To do this, add 3-4 drops of essential oil to a container with lukewarm water, bring the container to your nose and breathe for a few minutes.

When carrying out inhalations, side effects may occur in the form of an allergic reaction to one of the types of herbs or aromatic oils.

To avoid this, it is advisable to mix no more than three herbs at a time and take into account the compatibility of essential oils.

It is recommended to use a compress to enhance the effect after inhalation or as an independent procedure.

By having a warming and vasodilating effect, activating blood circulation, compresses improve the patient’s condition, relieve symptoms and help restore the voice.

The compress is very simple to make. Gauze, folded in 3-4 layers and soaked in a healing composition, is applied to the surface of the patient’s throat and chest.

Next, apply a plastic film and cover the affected area with a woolen cloth or scarf.

As a healing composition for a compress, you can use:

  • vodka,
  • camphor alcohol,
  • calendula tincture;
  • badger fat;
  • a mixture of several essential oils;
  • potatoes boiled in their jackets and mashed into a puree.

The duration of the procedure is from 4 to 10 hours.

You can keep the compress day or night. However, the break should be about 2 hours.

It is recommended to lubricate sensitive skin with a rich cream before applying an alcohol compress.

After the procedure, it is advisable to warm your neck with a woolen scarf so that the warming effect lasts and the result is even more effective.

The compress has only one contraindication - high fever. If neglected, the fever will worsen.

Compresses include the well-known mustard plasters.

They warm the skin, affect nerve endings and stimulate the immune system.

As a result, the inflammation stops and the pain slowly goes away.

However, this wonderful remedy requires careful use.

Otherwise, there is a possibility of skin burns, which will cause additional troubles for the patient.

Mustard plasters are dipped in hot water and applied one at a time to the skin with the mustard side.

The distance between the plates should be about 1.5 cm.

The top of the mustard plasters is covered with a warm cloth and a blanket. The duration of exposure is no more than 15 minutes, after which the skin is wiped dry, lubricated with cream and the patient is covered with a blanket.

A contraindication to the use of mustard plasters is high temperature.

They should not be applied to the heart area, mammary glands, or areas of the body that have moles, abrasions, or scratches.

Gargling with herbal infusions

An equally effective method of treatment is rinsing with various healing agents.

This procedure reduces swelling and inflammation, destroys pathogens, and activates healing processes.

For rinsing, you can use drugs such as furatsilin and chlorophyllipt.

It is better to use traditional medicine, which contains many recipes for medicinal potions.

Here are just a few of them:

  • infusions of various medicinal herbs: calendula, chamomile, linden, willow bark, sage, calamus rhizome, raspberry or eucalyptus leaves;
  • solutions of soda (1 tsp per 200 ml of water), sea salt (1 tsp per 0.5 l of water);
  • warm milk with carrots boiled in it (1 carrot per half liter of milk);
  • warm water with 3 tablespoons of honey dissolved in it;
  • juice of boiled beets or raw potatoes;
  • warm water with 5-6 drops of sea buckthorn oil;
  • honey with lemon (lemon juice in 0.5 tbsp of warm water and 4 tbsp of honey);

Rinsing is carried out every one and a half or two hours.

The solution should be warm, but not hot.

Contraindications to rinsing: individual intolerance to the components included in the healing solution.

Therefore, the composition should be selected carefully and with caution.

Healing decoctions and mixtures

Folk remedies in the form of decoctions, infusions and mixtures for oral administration are very effective in the treatment of laryngitis.

They consist of useful components that have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antipyretic, and expectorant effects.

And the vitamins and essential microelements they contain increase immunity and help cope with the disease more successfully.

There are many recipes for the treatment of laryngitis, they are time-tested and give excellent results:

  • Recipes to help quickly restore your voice:

    The infusion should be taken every hour.

    You can use the mixture up to 4 times a day.

  • Boil a handful of peanuts, dry them and lightly fry them.

    The tasty medicine can be taken at any time.

  • Prevention recommendations

    Folk remedies give an excellent effect, but it is advisable to use them only after consultation with a doctor in order to exclude all possible contraindications.

    After recovery, you should take care of yourself, do not get too cold and do not overexert your voice.

    The following preventive measures will help to avoid recurrent laryngitis:

    • gradual and consistent hardening of the body;
    • timely treatment of ARVI, colds, bronchitis;
    • quitting smoking and alcoholic beverages;
    • careful treatment of the vocal cords;

    Traditional medicine for laryngitis effectively reduces the inflammatory process, helps restore voice and speeds up recovery

    Treatment of laryngitis with folk remedies in adults is carried out using inhalations, compresses, herbal infusions and other healing agents to reduce inflammation and swelling of the laryngeal mucosa, vocal cords and strengthen the immune system.

    Healing recipes of traditional medicine help to successfully cope with various symptoms of laryngitis, but treatment of the acute process must be started immediately in order not to start the disease and prevent it from becoming chronic. And in the chronic course of the disease, folk remedies significantly alleviate the manifestations of the disease and help reduce exacerbations with a gradual significant improvement in voice function.

    Basic rules for using folk remedies for treating laryngitis:

    • Before using traditional medicine, you must consult with a specialist - therapy using herbs and other plant materials, essential oils and bee products, as well as berries, vegetables and fruits is carried out under the supervision of a physician and is considered an addition to the main therapy of the disease.
    • Laryngitis is quite often provoked by allergic factors, so the choice of folk remedies in patients with a predisposition to the development of allergic reactions must be approached with great caution and be sure to try the healing composition. To do this, before use, you need to apply a small amount of it first to the oral mucosa (inner side of the cheek) and make sure there is no reaction.
    • Acute or chronic laryngitis is treated comprehensively with the mandatory identification and elimination of the cause, the use of a full range of medications and physiotherapy, and the addition of traditional medicine as an auxiliary therapy.

    When using traditional medicine, it is necessary to strictly follow the proportions (preparation instructions) - this can lead to aggravation of the inflammatory process or the medicine will be ineffective or cause harm to health

    Treatment of laryngitis in adults using traditional methods is used:

    • to reduce inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane of the larynx and vocal cords;
    • to strengthen the general and local reactivity of the immune system;
    • to restore voice;
    • to relieve pain;
    • to speed up the patient's recovery;
    • reducing the likelihood of subacute or sluggish laryngitis transitioning to a chronic form.

    Therefore, it is necessary to know what pathological symptoms manifest laryngitis in adults - how to treat acute and chronic inflammatory processes in the larynx.

    The most effective folk remedies for the treatment of laryngitis include:

    • decoctions of medicinal plants in the form of multi-component mixtures for drinking or gargling (see Gargling: how and with what to carry out the procedure);
    • ginger in combination with other remedies;
    • vegetable juices that soften and reduce inflammation of the mucous membrane - potato, carrot or cabbage juice with the addition of propolis;
    • aloe juice;
    • inhalations with herbal decoctions, alkaline waters;
    • essential and other vegetable oils (sea buckthorn or peach) for lubricating the mucous membrane of the pharynx or inhalation (see How to carry out inhalation for laryngitis);
    • products with garlic.

    I widely use decoctions and infusions of medicinal herbs both for local treatment (rinsing, irrigating the throat, inhalations) and for drinking (to reduce intoxication and strengthen the immune system) for acute laryngitis (pictured)

    Treatment of acute laryngitis in adults is similar to the treatment of any acute respiratory viral infection or acute respiratory infection:

    • Bed rest in the first days of illness.
    • Fractional fortified gentle nutrition.
    • Warm, abundant, preferably alkaline drink - milk with added soda, Borjomi mineral water or other thermal waters with milk and honey.
    • Decoctions of medicinal herbs with anti-inflammatory, decongestant, softening, restorative effects:
      1. chamomile;
      2. St. John's wort;
      3. Linden;
      4. mint;
      5. calendula (see How to gargle with calendula tincture correctly);
      6. yarrow.
    • Inhalations with mineral water, saline using ultrasonic or compressor nebulizers.
    • Irrigation, rinsing and lubricating the mucous membrane of the pharynx with herbal decoctions, prepared with your own hands, a mixture of propolis, peach oil and glycerin.
    • Emollients to relieve dry, irritating cough:
      1. honey with lemon and glycerin;
      2. viburnum berries with honey;
      3. plantain juice with sugar syrup and honey;
      4. jam from shoots, young pine or spruce cones.
    • Compresses made from essential and vegetable oils.

    Traditional medicine offers various methods of treating acute laryngitis as an auxiliary therapy

    Voice restoration products:

    • Anise seeds (1/2 cup) should be poured with a glass of boiling water, and the mixture should be simmered in a water bath for 10 minutes over low heat. Cool the broth and add ¼ cup of honey and a tablespoon of cognac.

    The product is taken one tablespoon every hour, but no more than 7-8 times a day.

    • Take three medium dried or five fresh figs, boil for 2-3 minutes in a glass of milk, leave the broth for 1-2 hours.

    The video explains how to treat laryngitis in an adult at home. Folk remedies for laryngitis in adults perfectly complement the drug treatment prescribed by a specialist and effectively eliminate complex symptoms of acute and chronic inflammation of the larynx.

    Laryngitis is one of the most unpleasant respiratory diseases, accompanied by a painful cough, sore throat and hoarseness. How can you quickly eliminate the symptoms of the disease and speed up recovery?

    Treatment of laryngitis with folk remedies allows you to enhance the effect of pharmacological drugs, but only as a supplement. The advantage of alternative medicine is that the drugs used for treatment do not contain synthetic substances.

    In other words, they do not create a large load on the liver and kidneys, so they can be used to prevent colds. Moreover, many folk remedies have an immunostimulating effect, so they not only speed up recovery, but also prevent the recurrence of colds.

    How to treat laryngitis? It should be understood that laryngitis is an insidious disease that can lead to complete loss of voice, laryngeal stenosis and even malignant tumors in the throat. For this reason, treatment of inflammatory processes in the larynx should be accompanied by taking appropriate medications. It is almost impossible to cure pathology using folk remedies. As a rule, they are used as an addition to the main treatment of ENT diseases.

    In the absence of serious complications, treatment can be carried out at home. Along with anti-inflammatory drugs, it is recommended to use natural remedies that have anti-edematous, wound-healing and immunostimulating effects. Traditional medicine offers a lot of useful recipes for preparing remedies suitable for treating the larynx.

    In addition, treatment of laryngitis will be most effective only if the following recommendations are followed:

    • refusal to drink alcohol and cigarettes;
    • semi-bed rest for a week;
    • complete vocal rest for 5 days;
    • drinking plenty of alkaline drinks;
    • refusal to eat spicy and hot foods;
    • maintaining normal temperature conditions in the room (23-25 °C).

    Laryngitis affects not only the larynx, but also the vocal cords, so untimely treatment of the disease can cause persistent vocal disturbances.

    Positive dynamics in the treatment of ENT diseases can only be achieved if the above recommendations are followed. If the symptoms of inflammation in the larynx do not go away within 14 days, you will most likely have to be treated for chronic laryngitis. You need to understand that with a chronic course of the disease, it will be much more difficult to completely stop inflammatory processes in the respiratory tract.

    To treat laryngitis, populists and many herbalists recommend rinsing. As a rule, inflammation of the larynx occurs against the background of colds, which affect the mucous membrane of the laryngopharynx. To quickly eliminate inflammation and increase local immunity, you need to regularly gargle your sore throat.

    Solutions with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects help eliminate sore throat, sore throat and swelling of the mucous membranes. Moreover, thanks to rinsing, up to 70% of pathogenic microorganisms that provoke the development of laryngitis are washed out from the respiratory system. The procedure is carried out at least 4-5 times a day during periods of exacerbation of respiratory diseases.

    What rinses can I use? To prepare effective solutions, you can use the following recipes:

    • heat 300 ml of water, adding 1 tbsp. l. honey and 50 ml carrot juice;
    • pour 150 ml of turnip juice into 200 ml of boiled water, adding 1 tbsp to the solution. l. Sahara;
    • add 2 tsp to 200 ml of beet juice. vinegar and 1 tsp. Sahara;
    • mix 1 tsp. calamus root, chamomile, calendula and oregano, then fill the raw material with 500 ml of boiled water; Gargle with the infused solution 4 times;
    • add 350 ml of chamomile decoction and 4-5 drops of sea buckthorn essential oil.

    The temperature of the gargling solution should vary between 35.5. up to 37 °C.

    Laryngitis should be treated with folk remedies for at least a day. After rinsing, it is not advisable to drink or eat for a few minutes. As practice shows, physiotherapeutic procedures help patients get rid of a burning sensation in the throat and discomfort when swallowing after 2-3 days of regular rinsing of the throat and tonsils.

    Steam inhalation is the most effective method of treating hacking cough and sore throat. Inhalation treatment can be carried out only if the inflammation in the throat was caused by viruses. The fact is that fairly hot steam slightly increases the temperature in the tissues, and if laryngitis was caused by bacteria, even a slight change in temperature can contribute to the proliferation of pathogens.

    What folk remedies for laryngitis will be the most effective? To quickly eliminate foci of inflammation in the larynx, it is recommended to alternate herbal and soda inhalations. The former help stop inflammatory processes, and the latter destroy pathogenic flora in the respiratory tract.

    The following can be used as a basis for preparing a medicinal solution:

    • essential oils of lavender, sage, thyme, eucalyptus or anise;
    • decoctions of oak bark, calendula, chamomile or St. John's wort;
    • water infusions based on elderberry, linden and chamomile flowers;
    • alcohol tincture of propolis or calendula;
    • collections of herbs from the bark of viburnum, coltsfoot and birch leaves.

    It is worth noting that chronic laryngitis is caused by pathogenic bacteria. To eliminate pathogenic flora in the larynx, it is advisable to use alkaline water for steam inhalation. The most effective remedy will be Borjomi or Essentuki mineral water. As in the case of rinsing, inhalations should be performed regularly, at least 3-4 times a day for 7 days.

    Honey is a storehouse of organic acids, microelements and vitamins. The natural product contains more than 200 useful substances that help normalize redox processes in the respiratory organs. Honey is one of the most popular remedies that is used in the treatment of most respiratory diseases. Pleasant to the taste, it helps eliminate inflammation, increase immunity and heal affected mucous membranes.

    How to carry out treatment with folk remedies? As a rule, honey is used for oral administration, inhalation, and gargling for a sore throat. The simplest but most effective remedies against laryngitis include:

    • carrot-honey juice: mix 250 ml of carrot juice with 1 tbsp. l. flower honey; take 1 tbsp orally. l. 3-4 times a day 20 minutes before meals;
    • plantain juice with honey: mix 30 ml of plantain juice and melted honey; leave in a dark and cool place for 5 days and take 1 tbsp. l. 3 times a day for exacerbation of laryngitis;
    • lemon juice and honey: mix 150 ml of lemon juice with 100 ml of melted honey (preferably linden); take 1 tsp. 3 times a day before meals.

    For the treatment of respiratory diseases, it is advisable to use linden, acacia and sweet clover honey, since it contains the largest amount of flavonoids, organic acids and vitamins.

    Honey should be used with caution for laryngitis. Despite its pronounced anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, the product can also cause allergic reactions.

    For respiratory diseases, many doctors advise drinking at least 2 liters of alkaline drink every day. Why? Warm drinking helps remove waste products of pathogens from the body. Due to this, the severity of intoxication symptoms decreases. In addition, drinking enough fluids prevents dehydration.

    The top five drinks that have antitussive and anti-cold effects include:

    • tea with lemon: pour 1 tsp. black tea 100 ml of water, adding a little honey and a squeeze of lemon;
    • tea with rosehip: 3 tbsp. l. pour crushed rose hips into ½ liter of boiling water; drink the infused, strained drink at least 3 times a day, 100 ml at a time;
    • cranberry juice: mash the berries with sugar in a ratio of 3:1; pour 2 tbsp. l. raw materials 300 ml hot water;
    • mineral milk drink: mix milk and Borjomi in equal proportions; drink the drink hot at least 4 times a day;
    • ginger drink: add 10 ml honey (2 tsp), 10 ml lemon juice and chopped ginger root to 1 glass of hot water.

    Important! It is not recommended to drink a lot of alkaline drinks for people suffering from kidney failure.

    Folk recipes for laryngitis and bronchitis have a pronounced anti-edematous effect. With regular consumption of drinks, breathing becomes easier, the voice is restored and pain in the throat is eliminated.

    Wet semi-alcohol and alcohol compresses are the best method for relieving sore throats. Local warming of the mucous membrane helps to normalize blood circulation in the affected tissues, as well as accelerate the outflow of lymph. Due to this, swelling of the larynx is reduced, as a result of which the voice is restored and the likelihood of developing laryngeal stenosis is reduced.

    To prepare a warming compress, you need to moisten gauze in a solution that should be made of water and:
    • red wine;
    • medical alcohol;
    • vodka;
    • alcohol tincture of calendula;
    • camphor alcohol.

    Water and alcoholic beverages should be mixed in a 1:1 ratio.

    Apply the compress directly to the throat for at least 2-3 hours to deeply warm the tissues. To enhance the warming effect of the compress, wet gauze is covered with kraft paper, plastic wrap or cellophane, and then a wool or flannel scarf is tied around the neck.

    Laryngitis, or inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx, usually occurs due to prolonged stress on the vocal apparatus. Often the occurrence of the disease is also associated with hypothermia of the body as a whole or with the consumption of ice-cold food and drinks.

    Acute laryngitis can be treated with medication, but this disease can be cured fairly quickly with folk remedies. For adults, this option is probably more convenient, since it does not require a daily visit to the doctor. In addition, the products from which folk remedies need to be prepared are cheaper than medications. And the treatment itself with folk remedies is usually more pleasant for the patient than treatment with medications.

    Despite all the positive aspects of using folk remedies. Treatment of laryngitis should still be supervised by a doctor. This will prevent the acute form of the disease from becoming chronic, the treatment of which is much more difficult. In the latter case, folk remedies alone will definitely not be enough.

    Which folk remedies are best suited

    If at a doctor’s appointment it turns out that the patient is suffering from acute laryngitis, the severity of which is low, then folk remedies can be used for treatment. In this case, the symptoms of the disease will most likely go away completely even at home. Sometimes folk remedies actually help to quickly cure laryngitis, which is important for most adults. However, before undertaking treatment for laryngitis at home, it is important to obtain the doctor’s approval regarding those products, solutions and compounds that the patient is going to use to quickly cure laryngitis.

    The following remedies are most suitable for working adults who want to quickly cure laryngitis at home:

    Salt water will help kill microorganisms that can cause inflammation, and will also reduce sore throat. It is enough to dilute half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle with the resulting solution. 3-4 rinses per day are sufficient. It is important for the patient to remember that if too much salt is diluted, the solution will only increase irritation and will not help cure the disease. Therefore, it is important to dissolve no more than half a teaspoon of salt per glass of water.

  • Lemon acid.

    Also used for rinsing. You need to squeeze lemon juice into a glass of water and add a pinch of salt there. Citric acid, in addition to its bactericidal effect, has a stimulating effect on salivation. This helps to thin the mucus and speed up the separation of the latter.

  • Garlic juice.

    To treat laryngitis with garlic, it is enough to “dissolve” a clove of garlic for several minutes two or three times a day, the juice of which has a bactericidal effect, that is, it destroys the causative agents of the disease.

  • Fresh ginger root.

    It is necessary to thinly chop the ginger root and cook it for ten minutes. The broth is cooled, filtered and drunk. This will reduce inflammation and pain. Treatment with ginger also has a beneficial effect on the emotional status of the patient.

  • Apple vinegar.

    Has a bactericidal effect. It is necessary to dissolve a tablespoon of vinegar in a glass of clean water. Next, three to four times a day you need to gargle with the resulting solution.

  • Honey.

    Reduces inflammation. To treat laryngitis, you can eat a few spoons of honey a day. You can also drink honey tea. Treatment with honey is also not only useful, but also pleasant for the patient.

  • Eucalyptus oil.

    You can dissolve a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a pan of boiling water, and then inhale the vapors of the resulting solution for several minutes. The procedure is repeated twice a day. This helps reduce inflammation and relieve pain. However, it is important to remember to take precautions to avoid burning the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. You should not inhale eucalyptus vapors while the liquid is boiling, get too close to the container, or frantically grab the steam with your open mouth: all this invariably leads to disastrous consequences requiring immediate medical attention.

  • Onion syrup.

    You need to take three fresh onions, chop them, add 200 ml of water and simmer for some time until the mixture acquires a thick consistency. After this, you can mix five tablespoons of the resulting syrup with a glass of warm water, add a few drops of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey to the resulting mixture, and then drink slowly. This folk remedy will allow you to treat laryngitis in adults most quickly.

  • (NB) It is important to drink fluids consistently when using any of the above-mentioned folk remedies to treat laryngitis. It is advisable that the temperature of this liquid be at room temperature. This will prevent hypothermia and aggravation of the inflammatory process in the mucous membrane of the larynx.

    Conclusion

    There are various folk remedies that can quickly cure laryngitis on your own, at home. Their use is quite simple: they are cheap, easy to prepare, taste good, and usually require virtually no forced emotional outlay from the patient during treatment. However, the patient should definitely consult a doctor both before using folk remedies and during their use. This will not only ensure the highest level of effectiveness of home treatment, but also avoid aggravation of the pathological process. Treatment of more severe forms of laryngitis is a complex and lengthy process, involving exclusively medicinal methods and strict control by an otolaryngologist. The results of such treatment are not always comforting for the patient. This is especially important for working adults whose profession is based on constant speaking: along with regular loss of voice, these citizens may also lose the opportunity to work professionally.
