“Borjomi” – the benefits and harms of mineral water

Oksana Tkalenko • 08.11.2017

Borjomi springs appeared more than one and a half thousand years ago. Initially, the water was used for bathing, as evidenced by the discovered stone baths. Because of the wars, the springs were forgotten and fell into disrepair.

They were discovered again by accident in the 19th century. Borjomi soon gained popularity. Gradually, many health resorts, parks and hotels were built near the springs. Borjomi today is famous for its beneficial effects on the body.

Why Borjomi is useful

This water is of volcanic origin. It is pushed to the ground by natural carbon dioxide from a depth of 8-10 kilometers. The uniqueness of Borjomi is that, unlike other mineral waters, it does not have time to cool underground, so it comes out warm, enriching itself with minerals from the Caucasus mountains along the way.

Composition of Borjomi

Borjomi has a rich composition - more than 80 useful chemical compounds and components. It contains potassium, sodium, calcium, fluorine, sulfur, silicon, magnesium, aluminum, bicarbonates and sulfates.

Benefits of Borjomi

Due to the presence of potassium, water has a good effect on the heart. Ions accelerate biological processes, in particular metabolism. Other useful compounds cleanse the body, increase immunity, stabilize water-salt balance and help in the treatment of diseases of the digestive system.

The benefit of Borjomi for the gastrointestinal tract is its ability to normalize the acid-base balance, improve digestion, thin gastric mucus, have a laxative effect and cleanse. Water fights heartburn, improves the functioning of the gallbladder, kidneys and liver.

It will bring great benefits to people suffering from diabetes. The elements present in Borjomi promote insulin synthesis, improve pancreatic function, normalize water-salt metabolism and reduce the feeling of thirst that plagues diabetics.

It is also useful for those who regularly experience intense physical activity to drink this water. It will replenish the depleted supply of minerals and give a boost of energy.

Due to Borjomi’s ability to cleanse the body and normalize water balance, it is recommended as a hangover remedy.

It is possible to use water externally. For example, carbon dioxide baths not based on it improve blood circulation and contractile function of the myocardium, reduce blood pressure and increase endurance.

Indications for taking Borjomi

  • everything related to the gastrointestinal tract - ulcers and gastritis with varying degrees of acidity, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation;
  • pathologies of the biliary tract;
  • diabetes;
  • metabolic disorders;
  • liver diseases;
  • obesity;
  • kidney disease;
  • women's diseases;
  • urethritis and cystitis;
  • gallbladder disease;
  • diseases of the nervous system and respiratory tract.

Harm and contraindications of Borjomi

The main contraindications of Borjomi are gastrointestinal diseases in the acute phase. There are no other restrictions on water consumption. It is allowed to be consumed even by pregnant women and children, but only in the correct doses.

Borjomi can cause harm if taken uncontrolled and excessively. Do not forget that water has an alkaline reaction, so with prolonged use it will begin to corrode the walls of the stomach. The consequence of this can be ulcers and gastritis.

Borjomi during pregnancy

The use of Borjomi by pregnant women deserves special attention. Despite the fact that this water can help solve common pregnancy problems - nausea and heartburn, you should drink it with caution, no more than 1 glass per day. This is due to the fact that Borjomi contains many minerals that can affect the body in different ways.

In addition, such water is rich in salts, the processing of which requires a lot of energy and time.

Borjomi for children

Due to the same mineral composition, Borjomi should not be given uncontrollably to children. Doctors recommend drinking it only for children with gastrointestinal problems.

Other indications for children to drink water may include food poisoning and constipation.

Only a doctor should determine exactly how to drink Borjomi for children for treatment. At home, for example, if a child is constipated, the permissible volume of water should be 4 ml per 1 kg of weight: if a child weighs 8 kg at a time, he can drink 32 ml. You should drink it 3 times a day.

Medicinal properties of Borjomi

Borjomi was used not only as a medicinal and prophylactic remedy for gastrointestinal diseases. Water can cope with colds. To speed up recovery, it is recommended to drink 100 grams 30 minutes before each meal. To reduce fever and improve the condition, Borjomi should be consumed as in the previous case, but heated to 40°C.

Borjomi with milk will help get rid of laryngitis and bronchitis. To prepare the product, you need to use settled mineral water. It must be combined in equal proportions with warm milk. You should get a solution with a temperature of up to 37°C. If desired, you can add a little butter or honey to it. It is recommended to drink the product 3 times a day, 1/3 cup. It improves mucus discharge, warms and soothes the throat, relieves spasms and facilitates coughing.

For coughs, inhalations with Borjomi have a good effect. To carry them out, it is best to use ultrasonic inhalers. If you don’t have such a device, a saucepan and a towel can replace it. Heat Borjomi in a saucepan to 50°C, bend over it, cover with a towel and breathe for 7 minutes. To enhance the effect, mineral water can be combined in equal proportions with an infusion of herbs, such as St. John's wort, sage or chamomile.

Borjomi is useful for stomach problems. They can be of different nature. For an effective solution, drinking mineral water is recommended in different ways in some cases.

With low acidity, it should be drunk in small sips, slowly, 30 minutes before meals, 100 ml. In case of high acidity, it is better to drink warm and still water, 1 glass 1.5 hours before meals.

If you drink Borjomi during meals, it will improve digestion processes, and an hour before eating, it will reduce the feeling of hunger. Water at room temperature will reduce pain and eliminate spasms, cold water will activate the gastrointestinal tract.

How to drink Borjomi correctly

How to drink Borjomi depends on the purpose of taking it. To prevent and solve health problems, water should be taken 30 minutes before meals.

To get the maximum benefit from Borjomi, it is better to drink it warmed up to room temperature. It is recommended to heat the mineral water in a water bath and not boil it, so you can preserve all the valuable components. To avoid constantly heating Borjomi, you can simply store it not in the refrigerator, but, for example, in a kitchen cabinet. You need to drink water slowly in large sips.

There is no clear answer about how much Borjomi to drink. Single dose may vary. The optimal amount of water for adults is 150 grams. In any case, it is not recommended to drink more than 3 glasses of Borjomi per day.

You should not drink water daily for more than a month. Afterwards you need to take a break for at least 90 days. Doctors may prescribe a different mineral water treatment regimen.

If you drink Borjomi not as prescribed by the doctor, do not forget that you need to use it carefully, because it is more of a medicine than ordinary water. Try to adhere to the doses recommended for treatment or prevention and do not replace Borjomi drinking water.

The mineral waters of individual areas are very similar in composition, although there are certain differences. Thus, water mineralization in the Central section is 6.0–6.5 g/l, in Likansky - 5.2–5.5 g/p, in Vashlovani-Kvibissky - 7.0–7.5 g/l, water The central section contains (by gas composition) 95–98% carbon dioxide, it is less to the northeast; on the Vashlovani-Kvibissky section - about 50%.

According to the chemical composition, Borjomi mineral waters belong to sodium carbonate hydrocarbonate waters with a carbon dioxide content of 0.5 g/l (in the Vashlovani-Kvibissky area) to 1.0–1.5 g/l (in the Central one).

Borjomi mineral waters also contain chlorine, bromine, barium and some other substances. The water temperature in various sources ranges from 17° to 38° C.

There are 10 capture wells in the Borjomi resort, the total daily flow of which ranges from 700–800 thousand to 1 million liters.

Mineral waters are used in sanatorium and resort institutions of Borjomi mainly for drinking treatment, and also in non-resort conditions as medicinal table water (bottled under the name “Borjomi”). Annual bottling of about 400 million bottles; Some of them are exported.

Borjomi sanatoriums: prices for 2018 with treatment

Experts recommend

Borjomi is one of the most famous resorts in Georgia. It is famous for the healing properties of mineral water and the wonderful mountain climate.

Health improvement

Borjomi is a balneological and climatic resort. Located in a gorge, on the banks of the Kura, Borjomuly and Gujareti rivers at an altitude of 900 m above sea level, Borjomi is distinguished by a mild, moderately humid mid-mountain climate, which promotes recovery from many diseases.

The resort is dominated by sunny days (more than 200 per year), the most clear, cloudless days are observed from July to October - this is the time that is considered optimal for climate therapy.

The air temperature drops below zero only in winter; winters have little snow and are moderately mild. Summer is warm, the average temperature in the summer months is about 20 degrees. Thanks to the mountain ranges surrounding the gorge, the resort does not have sharp daily temperature fluctuations - this is very important in the treatment of heart and nervous diseases.

A powerful healing factor in Borjomi sanatoriums is clean air. The Borjomi Gorge is a protected area where chamois, fallow deer, aurochs, and deer live.

The mountain slopes of the Vakhan and Trealeti ranges are covered with coniferous-deciduous forests, saturating the air with phytoncides. The cleanliness of the air is maintained thanks to weak mountain-valley winds that provide ventilation to the gorge.

Walking along mountain trails of varying degrees of difficulty, including a visit to the Sadger forest park - a wide plateau covered with centuries-old trees - helps activate healing mechanisms for nervous diseases, diseases of the respiratory tract, and helps strengthen the immune system.

In the process of mastering wonderful mountain routes, you feel a surge of unprecedented energy and vivacity, your mood improves, and a persistent positive attitude appears, which contributes to a quick recovery!

The main healing factor that gave life to Borjomi as a resort is its unique mineral water. Waters from the sources of the Borjomi Valley belong to the class of carbonic hydrocarbonate-sodium with natural mineralization.

The carbon dioxide content ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 g/l depending on the source (the highest concentration is in the Central Spring). In addition, Borjomi mineral water contains a whole range of microelements, such as chlorine, iodine, bromine, lithium, barium, and also contains boric acid.

The water temperature in different sources ranges from 15 to 38 °C. This amazing composition of water is associated with its origin - experts believe that it is a mixture of primary waters released by magma and groundwater formed as a result of melting glaciers.

The healing properties of Borjomi water manifest themselves primarily in relation to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Due to its chemical composition, it is a natural buffer solution that exhibits pronounced antacid properties, that is, it has the ability to reduce acidity.

In this regard, Borjomi mineral water is more effective than many medications used for gastritis, duodenitis, pancreatitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, liver and gallbladder diseases, as well as other diseases of the digestive tract.

Depending on the mode of use, water temperature, gas content, it has a multidirectional effect on the functioning of the stomach and intestines - in some cases it helps reduce acid production, and in others, on the contrary, it stimulates. That is why treatment with Borjomi mineral water should only occur under the supervision of a doctor.

Drinking mineral water in Borjomi sanatoriums also affects the functioning of other organs and systems. Its use helps to normalize the microelement composition of the body.

In addition, due to its alkaline reaction, it effectively helps with diseases accompanied by acidification of internal environments - such conditions include, for example, diabetes.

Drinking water has a beneficial effect on kidney function - Borjomi acts as a good diuretic, and there is no loss of potassium, since water is rich in these ions.

Borjomi water also perfectly helps restore metabolism in case of metabolic syndrome, obesity, helps remove waste and toxins from the body, and cleanses the liver. When taken as a course, the complexion improves, the skin becomes clean and elastic, and overall rejuvenation of the body occurs.

The alkaline reaction of Borjomi water helps improve the condition of diseases of the respiratory system - its use helps remove mucus, reduce inflammation, and eliminate intoxication.

In addition to using the mineral water of the Borjomi resort as a drink, it is used for inhalation for diseases of the respiratory system, irrigation, and also for bathing.

Immersion in mineral water helps to activate metabolic processes in the body, improves immunity, reduces the activity of inflammatory processes, and calms. Treatment with baths helps with diseases of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, obesity, and metabolic disorders.

The resort's health facilities also use other methods - physiotherapy, mud therapy (iodine-bromine mud), physical therapy, diet therapy and other modern approaches.

Considering the properties of Borjomi water, the main direction of its use is the correction of conditions associated with disruption of the gastrointestinal tract. Drinking mineral water is indicated in the treatment of pathologies such as:

  • Chronic gastritis, duodenitis, colitis
  • Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum
  • Dyspepsia
  • Gastroesophageal reflux
  • Constipation
  • Increased gas formation in the intestines
  • Chronic cholecystitis
  • Cholelithiasis
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Biliary dyskinesia
  • Chronic hepatitis
  • Initial stage of liver cirrhosis

Drinking Borjomi mineral water helps improve the condition of kidney and urinary tract diseases. Indications for its use are:

  • Cystitis
  • Chronic inflammation of the urinary tract
  • Pyelitis
  • Sand, stones in the kidneys and urinary tract

Taking Borjomi is effective for diseases of the respiratory system (both ingestion of water and inhalation are indicated):

  • Chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis
  • Dry and wet pleurisy
  • Chronic pneumonia

Diseases of other organs and systems are also treated at the Borjomi resort

  • Gynecological diseases (adhesive disease, endometriosis, parametritis, endometritis and other pelvic inflammatory processes)
  • Diseases of the nervous system – epilepsy, neuralgia, neurasthenia, depressive states
  • Metabolic disorders (anorexia, gout, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity)
  • Inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system (arthritis, osteoarthritis)
  • Diseases of the cardiovascular system (coronary heart disease and hypertension in the initial stage, the final stage of rehabilitation after heart attacks and strokes, vegetative-vascular dystonia).

Tips for vacationers

  • Holidays and treatment at the Borjomi resort have a number of contraindications. These include acute infectious diseases, organic lesions of the stomach and liver (including oncological processes), decompensated diabetes mellitus, hypertension and severe coronary heart disease, and decompensated heart defects. Women are not recommended to undergo treatment at the resort during menstruation.
  • Treatment with Borjomi mineral water must be carried out according to the recommendations and under the supervision of a doctor - uncontrolled consumption of water can lead to a deterioration of the condition and exacerbation of diseases!

History of the resort

Borjomi is not only a famous resort, but also very ancient! Archaeologists believe that already 2000 years ago the healing properties of its water were used for treatment. At the beginning of the 20th century, in the area of the springs, researchers discovered 7 stone baths that were made in the first millennium AD.

The very name of the village of Borjomi, according to legend, comes from two words - “borzh” - fortress wall, and “omi” - war. The fact is that the gorge, surrounded on all sides by mountains, forms a natural fortress that makes it easy to defend against enemy attacks.

In 1829, soldiers of the Kherson Grenadier Regiment, stationed in the gorge, discovered a pit filled with warm water on the bank of the Borjomka River, from which a pungent odor emanated. Assuming that water might have medicinal properties, the regiment commander began to take it every day, hoping with its help to get rid of stomach illness.

The effectiveness of the water turned out to be very high, the colonel began to tell his friends about it. Doctors became interested in the healing properties of the new source. In 1837, the first studies of the composition of mineral water were carried out - the regimental doctor of the Kherson regiment Amirov sent water samples to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The first serious steps in the development of the resort were made by Count Vorontsov, who in the mid-19th century became the viceroy of the Russian Tsar in the Caucasus. Fascinated by the beauty of the gorge, he ordered his summer residence to be built here. According to his instructions, the construction of hotels, public gardens, parks, as well as a water bottling plant began here.

However, the real heyday of the Borjomi resort came in the era of Prince Mikhail Romanov, who in 1862 became the new governor of the Tsar in the Caucasus. Under him, a bridge was built across the Kura River, palaces were erected, and magnificent parks were laid out.

In 1894, a railway connection connected Borjomi with Khashuri, which allowed resort guests to get to it from Tbilisi much faster, and also increased the volume of mineral water transported from Georgia to Russia.

In the same year, Mikhail Romanov launched a new filling plant, which operated until the mid-twentieth century. In 1904, water bottling was mechanized. It was during this period that Borjomi mineral water gained unprecedented popularity not only in Russia, but also abroad.

After the revolution, the royal mansions were turned into government residences. Thus, Joseph Stalin visited the palace of Prince Nikolai Romanov several times.

Throughout the entire period of Soviet power, Borjomi remained one of the most popular resorts in the country; imports of mineral water also constantly increased - in the 80s of the last century, almost half a million bottles were exported from here annually.

After perestroika, water production decreased significantly. However, the extraction, bottling and transportation of water have now been restored. The Borjomi resort itself welcomes guests throughout the year who want to try the healing power of the famous water.

Today, the resort has several dozen health centers, holiday homes, and sanatoriums, many of which are equipped with mineral baths and swimming pools.

In medical nutrition, Borjomi is used in specific dosages prescribed by the attending physician. Failure to comply with them can disrupt the water-salt balance of the body, as well as provoke an exacerbation of chronic diseases.

How to choose a good product

To choose good mineral water, you need to adhere to the following recommendations:

  • buy water only in large stores or pharmacies, this will protect you from buying counterfeits;
  • be sure to look at the date of manufacture;
  • the water must be clean without many impurities;
  • since Borjomi contains minerals, a small amount of slightly white sediment is allowed;
  • There should be no unpleasant odor when opening the bottle.

By following these recommendations, you will be able to buy a truly high-quality and healthy product.

How to drink Borjomi correctly for medicinal purposes

When treating diseases associated with indigestion, constipation and diarrhea, drink:

  • children - no more than 4 ml per 1 kg of body three times a day;

For colds, the dosage for children is the same; adult patients drink 100 ml of Borjomi before main meals. In this case, the water must be heated by steam to 37 °C.

How much Borjomi can you drink per day?

If the acidity of the gastrointestinal tract is low, you should drink 150 ml of mineral water once a day. In this case, it is better for children to use more traditional treatment.

In other cases, it is enough to drink a ml of mineral water 2-3 times a day. Children's dosages should not exceed 4 ml per 1 kg of body. If the child has not yet reached 3 years of age, it is better to limit Borjomi intake to one dose or use medical treatment methods.

Product storage features

Medicinal table mineral water must be stored in a well-ventilated, dark room without excess moisture. Be sure to place the bottles on their sides. It is believed that this is the most optimal option for storing Borjomi. After opening, mineral water must be drunk within 3-5 days.

Harm and contraindications

Semyon, if you have such a question, consult your doctor and don’t take any risks.

I have been drinking Borjomi every day for about 5 years. One bottle at a time, or even 2 bottles. I didn't notice any problems.

I have been drinking Borjomi for 10 years, with my high acidity it is better than all medications :)

I once often drank glade kvass from Transcarpathia for heartburn. Since there is as much soda as in Borjomi. But after a few years I noticed that the intestines began to weaken. Due to the high general mineralization as in Borjomi. But when children start to have acetone, these waters help. these waters reduce appetite if you drink them warm at body temperature due to soda. This neutralizes hydrochloric acid in the stomach and it no longer irritates the stomach. But if you completely suppress the acid to zero, then the protein will not be broken down in the stomach, it will go lower and will rot and ferment/ It’s interesting empirically that it’s been noticed that if you’ve eaten too much somewhere during a celebration, it helps to digest Coke and Pepsi. Or drink it in the morning and cook the food in the stomach and the nausea goes away, due to the specific acid in the cola // these highly alkaline waters can also help, plus a piece of lime

Mineral water "Borjomi": indications for use and reviews

There are many myths about whether you can drink mineral water simply to quench your thirst. Moreover, even doctors do not always agree on this issue. But competent experts say that Borjomi mineral water can be used by healthy and sick people, but it must be remembered that it cannot be consumed in large quantities, like ordinary water. One bottle per day is enough. Patients often ask whether it is possible to drink this wonderful drink in the heat? Yes, you can, because various salts come out of the skin cells along with sweat, which means useful microelements. Attacks of thirst are becoming increasingly stronger not only due to a lack of moisture, but also due to salt imbalance. Warm Borjomi mineral water is not the most attractive drink, but your body will thank you for it more than once.

Properties of wonderful water

There are a huge number of different healing sources on earth, but they all have unique properties. Modern research allows us to accurately determine the range of applications of each of them. At the same time, the leader in popularity is Borjomi mineral water. Its use is recommended for gastrointestinal problems, digestive disorders, metabolic disorders and other related ones. This is due to the biological activity of microelements with which the water is saturated. The high content of sodium and carbonates allows you to cope with gastrointestinal diseases that are associated with acidity disorders. It is consumed not only at resorts; every pharmacy in any city has glass bottles in which water is packaged directly from the source.

Medical indications for use

Borjomi mineral water is not a complete medicine. Its class is medicinal and canteen, which means it can be used simply for prevention. Please note that the period of exacerbation of serious diseases is not the time to experiment with various medicinal waters; you need to drink it correctly, as prescribed by your doctor. Meanwhile, it is widely used in the practice of a variety of specialists. As we have already said, most often these are various gastrointestinal diseases. Chronic gastritis, ulcers, intestinal diseases - this is not a complete list of diseases when Borjomi is prescribed. Mineral water, the indications for which are so extensive, is freely sold in any pharmacy.

Nephrologists no less often use Borjomi to treat cystitis and urolithiasis, pyelonephritis and metabolic disorders. This medicinal water has proven itself well in the fight against obesity and diabetes, cholecystitis and pancreatitis, and liver diseases. Gastroenterologists very often use Borjomi mineral water. Its use for the treatment of gallbladder diseases gives tangible results, and its effectiveness has been repeatedly confirmed by research. Independent specialists underwent treatment with medications or mineral water. However, the recovery rate in the second case was usually higher.

Contraindications and composition

Like all medicines, medicinal mineral water must be selected individually for yourself. Borjomi (mineral water) is not suitable for everyone. Her contraindications are not too strict, but nevertheless they must be taken into account. Any serious illness, especially during an exacerbation, is a reason to stop taking mineral water. It is in such cases that uncontrolled use can lead to severe swelling, problems with the gastrointestinal tract, and metabolic failures.

Let's look at the composition of mineral water and the possibility of creating an analogue by artificially mineralizing ordinary water. In fact, not a single person has ever been able to surpass what nature has created. It is natural water that has a unique composition, its degree of mineralization is 5.0–7.5 g/ml. It contains mg of magnesium, the same amount of calcium, mg of sodium, g of potassium, g of chlorides and g of bicarbonates.

Instructions for use

Since most often we use it not for prevention, but for treatment, it must be used correctly. Be sure to follow the following recommendations and, of course, ask your doctor if Borjomi mineral water will help in your case. We have listed the indications for use, but it must be taken into account that each person is individual and so is the nature of the disease. As a rule, doctors recommend drinking 100 g of water 30 minutes before meals. At the same time, make sure that it is warm and without gas. The daily therapeutic dose is 300 g. It should be remembered that exceeding this dose does not guarantee a faster recovery. In case of severe fever, you can use the same dosage; it is better to drink water heated to 40 degrees.

Applications for the treatment of gastrointestinal tract

We continue to consider how Borjomi mineral water is used by gastroenterologists. Indications and contraindications are questions that should be asked to your doctor. Most often it is prescribed during the recovery period after operations, for various gastritis and ulcers, diseases of the small and large intestines. Doctors advise starting with ¼ cup. Drink mineral water heated to a certain degree. It is recommended to drink water an hour before meals. It is recommended to gradually increase the dose to 1.5–2 glasses at a time. If the laxative effect is not desired, then water should be drunk in small sips. When taken regularly, it reduces inflammatory processes in the gastric mucosa and normalizes intestinal motor function. In addition, mineral water increases the secretion of bile by the liver and also normalizes the activity of the pancreas.

Used to treat the liver and gallbladder

Surely you have many friends who are already familiar with Borjomi mineral water. Reviews from both doctors and patients about her are very good. Being a completely natural and safe remedy, it has enormous benefits for the whole body. But the gastrointestinal tract and its most important organ, the liver, respond especially well to it. Water is prescribed for cholecystitis and hepatitis, as well as other problems associated with the outflow of bile. In these cases, Borjomi is drunk warmed up to 40 degrees, 1 hour before meals, 1.5 glasses. For cholelithiasis with severe inflammatory processes, it is necessary to increase the dosage to 2.5 glasses. Judging by the reviews, this course of treatment is superior in effectiveness to pharmaceutical drugs and is absolutely safe.

Treatment of kidneys and urinary tract

In case of disease of these organs, before prescribing mineral water, you must first make sure that there are no contraindications from the cardiovascular system, digestive organs, insufficient excretory function of the kidneys, acidic urine and the presence of large kidney stones. In this case, water with a low content of mineral salts is recommended. It is important to note that there is no excess carbon dioxide in it; after opening the bottle for a few minutes, you will get a completely neutral drink. Therefore, the Borjomi composition is ideal. Mineral water helps the body get rid of excess fluid and create an environment in which pathogenic bacteria cannot multiply and die. In addition, it effectively removes sand and creates conditions for the destruction of stones. In this case, you should take it 2.5 glasses 6-8 times a day. That is, before and after meals. As prescribed by the doctor, use water at room temperature (18-20 degrees) or heated to 35 degrees.

Use for diabetes

Let us immediately make a reservation that mineral water is not suitable for the treatment of this terrible disease. An endocrinologist can prescribe it only in the mildest cases of diabetes. Water performs especially well when the disease occurs with concomitant lesions of other digestive organs and causes concomitant disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, mineral water for diabetes helps normalize water-salt metabolism, reduces thirst and has a beneficial effect on pancreatic function.

Treatment of ENT organs

At resorts, this mineral water is successfully used to treat diseases of the upper respiratory tract. It is successfully used for chronic bronchitis, laryngitis, laryngotracheitis. In this case, drink 1 glass of warmed water. The minimum number of appointments per day is three, but this number may vary at the discretion of the attending physician. What happens to the body in this case? The use of water helps eliminate inflammatory processes in the mucous membranes. This leads to the thinning of mucus, as a result of which sputum separation improves, cough decreases, which facilitates sputum separation and speeds up recovery.

Mineral water as a disease prevention

Really, it shouldn't be on your desk every day. But it will serve you well if you periodically drink a short course. Having a relatively neutral composition, mineral water does not lead to additional salt deposition and saturates the body with microelements. At the same time, Borjomi should be drunk in limited quantities and preferably 30 minutes before meals. During a large meal, a bottle of mineral water will help remove heaviness in the stomach and relieve heartburn. It helps well in solving problems such as hangovers. For those who want to lose weight, it would be useful to undergo a course of treatment with Borjomi.

Doctors' advice

Before you buy a bottle of mineral water, be sure to read the label. It should contain information about the source, well, and chemical composition. The container must be glass. Consider the time of drinking mineral water; immediately before a meal, it stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, and if drunk an hour before a meal, it dulls the feeling of hunger. For various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, drink water at room temperature, this helps reduce pain and relieve spasms. Do not forget that you need to drink it in small sips and slowly.

What diseases does Borjomi treat?

Borjomi is a truly legendary mineral water, which is credited with almost miraculous properties. It is believed that it helps treat literally everything, from a common runny nose to poisoning. Its popularity began quite a long time ago, and has not faded to this day, despite the abundance of modern analogues and pharmaceutical medicines. What explains such a stunning demand?

In what cases can it be used?

Sodium bicarbonate water, the birthplace of which has been the city of Borjomi for 1500 years, has the following indications for use:

  • prolonged gastritis with any level of acidity;
  • stomach ulcers;
  • kidney, liver and gall bladder diseases;
  • excess weight;
  • diabetes and various metabolic disorders;
  • inflammation of the genitourinary system;
  • “female-style” diseases;
  • diseases of the respiratory and nervous system.

The composition of the water is varied and rich, which makes the water itself suitable for the comprehensive healing of any organism, preventing intestinal diseases and strengthening the immune system in general. The composition of the healing Borjomi water is balanced and unique, which allows you to drink it like ordinary table water, but not every day, otherwise the body may not withstand such a vitamin and mineral “attack”.

Indications for the use of Borjomi mineral water may be as follows:

  • The activity of the stomach is brought back to normal: its excretory function is optimized and mucus is more actively separated;
  • The acidity level decreases;
  • Carbon dioxide baths based on this water are beneficial for diseases of the heart muscle and blood vessels: blood circulation increases, myocardial contractility improves, pressure in the arteries decreases and it becomes easier to endure physical activity;
  • The benefits of Borjomi also apply to the kidneys: this water has the ability to dissolve and remove urates and uric acid stones, the diameter of which does not exceed 0.7 cm.

Rules of use

To fully experience the positive effects of mineral water, first of all, you need to know how to drink Borjomi correctly. It should be warmed to room temperature or heated in a water bath, drunk only warm and half an hour before meals. The volume of each serving should not exceed 150 g, and they should be drunk slowly, but in large sips.

Use during pregnancy

Since Borjomi is water with a high content of minerals, its benefits and harms may vary depending on the characteristics of the body and its current condition.

For example, during pregnancy you should not abuse it, and doctors themselves advise drinking no more than a glass a day.

And that’s all, because such a liquid contains salts, which the body spends a lot of time and energy processing.

Borjomi helps to get rid of such unpleasant phenomena as heartburn and nausea, which are considered almost standard during pregnancy. To avoid bloating, carbon dioxide must be released from mineral water.

Is it possible for children?

It is better not to give Borjomi to very young creatures, all because of the same mineral composition. In general, doctors recommend using this water for constipation and food poisoning, increased secretory activity and other problems with the children's gastrointestinal tract. This is explained by the fact that mineral water has a mild laxative, cleansing and diuretic effect.

Moreover, children who are diagnosed with impaired stomach function or the digestion/excretion system of food receive vouchers to sanatoriums and health centers, where treatment is based on the use of Borjomi.

It is clear that they drink it under strict medical supervision, in small portions and no more than three times a day. It depends on what type of gastritis the child has, whether he should take mineral water before or after meals. At home, its volume is calculated as follows: 4 ml of liquid per kilogram of weight.

Cold inhalations

Borjomi is useful not only for gastrointestinal diseases, but can also be used in therapy. For example, to eliminate a cough, carbon dioxide must be released from it, and then mixed with heated milk in a 1:1 ratio.

To organize inhalations, gases are also released from the water, and the water itself is heated to +50 degrees. Next, you need to steam over the container as you would over boiled potatoes.

Weight loss effect

The beneficial readings of water also apply to people who are obese. They need to drink as much mineral water as possible, which will cleanse their body of toxins and affect lipid metabolism.

In order to lose weight, you can organize fasting days on Borjomi, or simply drink it in unlimited quantities, first releasing carbon dioxide from it. The fact is that the latter stimulates the production of gastric juice and, as a result, provokes appetite. It is clear that you will not be able to lose weight on mineral water alone unless you support its effect with physical activity and diets.

But starting the morning with a glass of Borjomi means helping the body quickly cleanse itself of toxins.

Possible negative consequences

Uncontrolled intake of mineral water is quite capable of causing significant harm to the human body. It can manifest itself in the form of aggravation of the curable disease, swelling, problems in the gastrointestinal tract, metabolic problems, and so on. Borjomi is prohibited for patients with acute gastric ulcers or ulcerative colitis, cardiac pathologies with a hint of decompensation, helminthic infestations and chronic dysentery.

When self-medicating with mineral water, get advice from your doctor. He will describe all the properties that Borjomi or Essentuki have, advise which of them is better specifically in your case, and describe the application scheme.

And remember: you need to learn how to choose a truly original product, since both Borjomi and Essentuki have long learned to fake it well.
