Lavomax flu prevention

Lavomax - domestic interferon inducer

Lavomax is another native Russian drug that is used for the treatment and prevention of influenza and ARVI. Unlike its “colleagues” - Arbidol, Kagocel, Ingavirin and other domestic antiviral drugs, Lavomax was able to successfully prove its effectiveness in foreign studies.

Table of contents:

But not as a remedy against respiratory viruses, but as an interferon inducer, that is, an immunomodulatory drug.

This information has helped so many people, we hope it will help you too! So, now back to the article.

Nevertheless, in the Russian Federation and CIS countries, Lavomax and its analogues are successfully used for the treatment and prevention of influenza and ARVI. The drug is included in standard protocols for the treatment of respiratory viral infections as a first-line treatment, along with the already mentioned domestic antiviral drugs.

How old is Lavomax - historical information

The active ingredient in Lavomax, tilorone, was developed in the 70s of the last century by the American chemist Richardson Merrell. Literally at the same time, on another part of the globe - in the Soviet Union - scientists from the Physico-Chemical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, independently of the American, synthesized the same tilorone. And, if Merrell, having patented the active substance, stopped there, then our chemists continued their research.

Throughout the 80s, tiloron was studied by scientists from the Ivanovo Institute of Virology of the Academy of Medical Sciences under the leadership of F.I. Ershov. Over ten years, three stages of clinical studies were carried out, and already in 1996 the active substance was approved by the pharmacological committee of the Russian Federation. Thyrolone has been registered as a drug for the treatment and prevention of viral infections, including influenza, hepatitis A and B, and herpes simplex virus.

Since 2005, tyrolon has been registered in Ukraine.

Composition of Lavomax and release forms

Lavomax tablets contain:

- tilorone in the form of dihydrochloride at a dose of 125 mg.

The Russian company Nizhpharm produces several forms of the drug, which differ only in the number of tablets in the package. Depending on the course of treatment and the purpose of Lavomax, you can buy a package containing 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and even 20 tablets.

Lavomax tablets are coated, the color of which can vary from yellow to orange. You may well purchase original tablets with a different shade from the one you took before. Therefore, do not rush to accuse pharmacists of selling counterfeits - this is just another series of Lavomax.

Lavomax's shell consists mainly of sucrose. This should be kept in mind by patients suffering from impaired breakdown of sugars.

Pure pharmacology: features of action

The pharmacological action of Lavomax is based on stimulating the formation of interferon in the body. Let us recall that interferon is a protein that is produced in the body in response to a viral attack. There are three types of interferon, each of which is necessary in the immune response mechanism. As a result of a chain of biochemical reactions triggered by interferon, the body's susceptibility to the virus decreases.

Lavomax is able to stimulate the synthesis of all three types of interferon - alpha, beta and gamma. Interestingly, active induction of interferon begins within four hours after oral administration of the drug and lasts for 24 hours. Lavomax stimulates the induction of interferon in the intestinal epithelium, liver cells, as well as in blood cells - T-lymphocytes, neutrophils and granulocytes. In addition, there is evidence that Lavomax stimulates the formation of antibodies, and also corrects the ratio of T-suppressors and T-helpers.

The antiviral effect of Lavomax is based on blocking virus reproduction due to inhibition of the virus-specific protein in affected cells.

It is worth noting that the interferonogenic effect of Lavomax has been clinically confirmed in competent placebo-controlled studies. The immunomodulatory effect of tilorone does not raise any doubts among either domestic or foreign specialists.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the antiviral effect. Just like the vast majority of Russian antiviral drugs, Lavomax for developed Western countries was and remains a drug with unproven effectiveness. Let us remind you that in Europe, the USA and other countries of the world, only Tamiflu and Relenza are recognized antiviral drugs.

Pharmacokinetics: features of absorption and excretion of Lavomax

Tiloron is absorbed quite quickly from the intestines. However, the bioavailability of Lavomax is not very high - only about 60%. This means that 40% of the active substance is not absorbed into the blood and, of course, has no effect.

It is important that the drug does not accumulate in the body and is excreted almost unchanged within four days after administration.

When Lavomax will help: indications for use

Lavomax, which has both antiviral and interferonogenic properties, is used for infections of various etiologies. I would like to note that tilorone is rarely used as part of monotherapy. As an immunomodulator with antiviral action, Lavomax is used as part of complex treatment for:

  • viral hepatitis A, B, C;
  • herpes infection types 1 and 2;
  • cytomegalovirus infection;
  • influenza and ARVI;
  • viral encephalomyelitis.

As an interferon inducer, Lavomax is prescribed as part of a combination treatment:

  • infectious-allergic encephalomyelitis;
  • chlamydial infection;
  • urethritis of non-gonococcal origin;
  • pulmonary tuberculosis.

Treatment of influenza and ARVI: are antiviral drugs needed?

In domestic medicine, an approach has long been rooted in the mandatory inclusion of antiviral drugs in the treatment regimen for acute respiratory viral infections. After a visit to the doctor, a patient with the flu or a respiratory viral infection is left alone with an impressive prescription. Not one or two drugs contain such a list. Therapy has begun.

When should we expect healing? Practice shows that treatment of influenza or ARVI takes about a week. Sometimes it is possible to achieve positive results in a shorter period of time. “But a viral infection goes away on its own within a week!” you will say, and you will be right. With an adequate immune response, any respiratory virus is eliminated within seven, less often, ten days. And the elimination of the virus is a guarantee of recovery: there is no pathogen, which means there is no disease.

Why then are antiviral drugs needed? Is it worth spending money and time on them?

The fact is that in patients with reduced immunity, a viral infection may not be so harmless. The danger of influenza and ARVI is that the disease can be aggravated by a bacterial infection. And, if respiratory viruses are doomed to death even without treatment, the same cannot be said about bacteria. The most common complications of respiratory viral infections are bacterial tonsillitis, bronchitis, and, of course, pneumonia. This requires qualified medical assistance, antibiotics and a serious approach to treatment.

In order to avoid such a complicated scenario, antiviral drugs are prescribed. They are especially needed by children, adults with a weakened immune response, and the elderly. It has been proven that the use of antiviral drugs, including Lavomax, can shorten the duration of the disease, as well as reduce the severity of symptoms.

Immunostimulants: different views on use

We have already said that, in contrast to the antiviral effect, the immunostimulating effect of Lavomax has been fully proven. Therefore, tilorone is mostly used as an interferon inducer. However, the opinions of experts regarding the need to use immunomodulators are ambiguous.

A significant part of doctors, including immunologists, believe that it is impossible to interfere with the important and complex process of immune defense. Or rather, it is possible, but only after a detailed and thorough study of the detailed immunogram and other indicators of the immune response.

Among the adherents of this theory are the majority of Western scientists. Therefore, tilorone preparations are not used in Europe, the USA and other developed countries of the world.

Domestic doctors hold the opposite opinion, stimulating the immune system without a twinge of conscience, and they see positive results of treatment. The question of who is right: supporters or opponents of immune stimulation remains open.

Lavomax - how to take?

The course of therapy with Lavomax depends on the disease:

— for the treatment of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, it is recommended to take 125 mg of Lavomax in the first days of illness, then reduce the frequency of administration: from the third day the drug is prescribed every other day. The course of treatment is 750 mg or six tablets;

— to prevent viral infections, it is enough to take 125 mg of Lavomax just once a week. The course of treatment is six weeks;

— for the treatment of viral hepatitis, an individual course of Lavomax is taken, which depends on both the type of hepatitis and its severity, as well as the patient’s medical history. The duration of treatment for chronic hepatitis can be six months or even longer;

— for the treatment of infections caused by herpes simplex virus and cytomegalovirus, take 125 mg of Lavomax in the first two days of treatment, after which the drug is prescribed one tablet every other day. The course of treatment will require 20 tilorone tablets;

— as part of complex therapy for chlamydial infection, 10 Lavomax tablets are prescribed according to the standard regimen: one tablet in the first two days, and then 125 mg of the drug once every two days;

- for pulmonary tuberculosis, Lavomax is used as an immunostimulant in the first two days, two tablets, and in subsequent days - one tablet every other day. The duration of treatment is determined individually.

Lavomax in pediatric practice: what are the instructions for use silent about?

According to the instructions for use, the use of Lavomax for children under 18 years of age is prohibited. However, this contraindication is not related to toxicity or the lack of clinical studies studying the use of the drug in pediatrics.

The ban on the use of the medicine in children is associated with a high dosage. Thus, the complete analogue of Lavomax Amiksin is not only approved for use by children over seven years of age, but is also available in a children's dosage of 60 mg.

The only form of release of Lavomax is 125 mg tablets, which are prohibited from being divided into parts, so it is impossible to dose the medicine to a child.

When Lavomax is not used: contraindications

Studies of the effect of Lavomax during pregnancy have not been conducted, so the medicine is prohibited for use during this period.

In addition, Lavomax is contraindicated for:

  • deficiency of enzymes that break down sugar (lactase and isomaltase);
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption (impaired absorption of sugars);
  • fructose intolerance;
  • individual sensitivity to tilorone or Lavomax excipients.

Side effects

Lavomax is usually well tolerated, as evidenced by research data and reviews from patients and doctors. In rare cases, minor adverse events are possible that do not require discontinuation of tilorone:

- chills, which are short-term;

- allergic reactions, usually in sensitive patients;

- symptoms of dyspepsia: nausea. Occasionally, with long-term treatment with high doses, vomiting and diarrhea are possible.

Lavomax analogues: what to replace?

There are two complete analogues of Lavomax on the pharmaceutical market:

1. Amiksin, which is available in tablets of 125 mg and 60 mg;

2. Thyrolone produced by Moskhimfarm in capsules of 125 mg.

Considering the pricing policy, it can be noted that Lavomax is somewhat cheaper than its analogues, although treatment with any Tilorone drugs cannot be called economical. But both Lavomax and Amiksin are over-the-counter drugs, which means they are available to everyone.

Reviews

We have selected some reviews from people who have taken the drug Lavomax:

  1. Victor. I was always sick in the fall and spring, either with the flu or with ARVI. During the last flu epidemic I took Lavomax for prevention and did not get sick! Really helped. I will still hope for him.
  2. Anna . It was prescribed to me when tests revealed that I had high-risk papillomavirus type 16. My doctor insisted on the drug Lavomax. You need to drink in a course, strictly observing the time frame and preferably after eating. I did not notice any adverse reactions while taking Lavomax. After completing the course, I took the tests again, the answer was negative! The only unpleasant moment is the high cost of the drug, but health, of course, is more expensive.
  3. Milana. A highly advertised, expensive drug, but ineffective. I took it at first for prevention, but it did not protect me during the period of exacerbation of viral diseases. And when I had the flu, until my body overcame the disease itself, I didn’t notice much relief. It’s good, at least there were no side effects, as they say here. Lavomax just passed me by. I won't buy any more.
  4. Tanya. We take this drug with the whole family for acute respiratory viral infections, as well as for prevention when a flu epidemic begins once a week. The product is good, it helps quickly and effectively, you don’t have to wait long for results, literally a day or two and you’re like a cucumber. And the most important thing is that it is not just an antiviral, but also an immunostimulating agent, that is, it forces our body to fight the virus itself, which is much more useful than just drinking a medicine that will do everything for you. Today this is the best option for an antiviral agent in terms of price-quality ratio.

Analogs

Lavomax has many analogues, the most popular of which are:

  • Amiksin;
  • Anaferon (child and adult immunomodulator, safe for children from 3 months to 6 years);
  • Acyclovir;
  • Ingavirin;
  • Grippferon;
  • Oscillococcinum;
  • Ergoferon

Before using analogues, consult your doctor.

Storage conditions and shelf life

Store in a dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Shelf life – 2 years.

One comment

By nature, I have very low immunity, so cold seasons turn into a real torment. But recently I discovered Lavomax, and the endless ARVI that haunted me during the cold season practically stopped. In two years of using the drug, I only got sick once, but the illness was much milder than usual and ended in just three days.

Lavomax flu prevention

*For courses of taking Lavomax, please refer to the instructions for medical use.

Lavomax is an immunomodulatory and antiviral drug used for the treatment and prevention of respiratory and other diseases of a viral nature.

The active ingredient of Lavomax - tilorone - activates the production of interferons - proteins necessary to protect the body from viruses, and also controls immunity at all stages of influenza and ARVI.

stages of influenza and ARVI

The first 2 days – 1 tablet per day,

then 1 tablet every other day.

Per course of treatment – only 6 tablets

1 tablet per week.

Preventive course – 6 tablets

According to the instructions, Lavomax can be taken from 18 years of age.

Vaccines are directed against specific strains of influenza, and the drug Lavomax is an immunomodulator and is effective against various viral infections, including influenza viruses and other acute respiratory viral infections.

Not necessary. The main reason for prescribing immunomodulators (in particular the drug Lavomax) are frequent ARVI, foci of chronic respiratory infection, a high probability of a complicated course of ARVI, etc. An immunogram is necessary, for example, when the doctor suspects the presence of a primary immunodeficiency.

To treat herpes infection, Lavomax is taken for the first 2 days, 1 tablet (125 mg), then every other day, 1 tablet (125 mg). Full course - 20 tablets (125 mg each).

For the prevention of influenza and other acute respiratory diseases, Lavomax is recommended 1 tablet per week (6 tablets for 6 weeks). The effect of the preventive course of Lavomax provides reliable protection against influenza and ARVI for at least 3 months.

The use of the drug Lavomax does not affect the ability to drive vehicles, concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Lavomax is compatible with antibiotics and traditional treatments for viral and bacterial diseases.

It is better not to drink alcohol during illness, but according to studies, no clinically significant interaction of Lavomax with alcohol has been identified.

It is recommended to store Lavomax in a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C - preferably on a shelf of any closet, protected from light, out of the reach of children.

According to clinical studies of the drug, taking Lavomax for the treatment of influenza and ARVI contributes to a more rapid disappearance of symptoms of the disease, alleviation of the course of the disease and a reduction in the duration of the disease. In addition, Lavomax helps reduce the incidence of bacterial complications.

Antiviral and immunomodulatory drug. Lavomax ® stimulates the formation of α-, β-, γ-interferons in the body. In response to Lavomax administration, interferon is produced mainly by intestinal epithelial cells, hepatocytes, T-lymphocytes and neutrophils.

After taking the drug orally, the maximum production of interferon is determined in the sequence intestine-liver-blood after 4-24 hours. Lavomax ® has an immunomodulatory and antiviral effect. Stimulates bone marrow stem cells, depending on the dose, enhances antibody formation, reduces the degree of immunosuppression, restores the T-helper/T-suppressor ratio.

Effective against various viral infections, incl. against influenza viruses, other acute respiratory viral infections, hepatitis and herpes viruses, cytomegaloviruses and neurotropic viruses.

The mechanism of antiviral action is associated with inhibition of the translation of virus-specific proteins in infected cells, as a result of which viral reproduction is suppressed.

After taking the drug orally, tilorone is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is 60%.

Binding to blood plasma proteins is about 80%.

Metabolism and excretion

Tiloron does not undergo biotransformation and does not accumulate in the body. It is excreted almost unchanged in feces (about 70%) and urine (about 9%). T 1/2 is 48 hours.

Lavomax

The main characteristics and rules for taking Lavomax are described in detail in the instructions for use.

This is a domestic medicine that is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of viral acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. The drug has successfully proven its effectiveness.

Clinical and pharmacological group

Lavomax stimulates the body's production of interferon. The drug belongs to a pharmacological group with a general name - “immunostimulants with a pronounced antiviral focus.”

The active component causes increased formation of its own interferon of any type (alpha, beta and gamma). The medicine promotes the production of an important protein in the stomach, intestines, liver and T-lymphocytes.

Once inside, the drug activates and increases the amount of interferon in the sequence: stomach-intestines-liver-blood. It stimulates the body's immune response, which kills viruses. The maximum level of active protein concentration is achieved within 4–24 hours after taking the prescribed dose. The principle of action of interferons on viruses and how Lavomax works can be seen in the video by following the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzY71A1LPpM

The therapeutic effect of the drug is:

active production of antibodies;

inhibition of the development and reproduction of many viruses;

activation of brain cells;

normalization of helper cells that produce antibodies (T-helpers).

The main substance has a suppressive effect against pathogens of acute respiratory viral infections (rhinoviruses), influenza and parainfluenza viruses, hepatitis and herpes simplex.

The medicine is part of the complex therapy of all viral infections of the respiratory system.

After the medicine gets inside, it is quickly absorbed into the blood from the stomach and intestines, combining with proteins (more than 80%). While in the body, the substance does not undergo accumulation or change. Excreted in feces (70%) and urine. The half-life is 48 hours.

Release form, composition and packaging

Lavomax is produced in the form of yellow tablets with a smooth sucrose shell.

1 tablet contains 125 mg of active substance. Packaged in blisters of 3,4,6,8,10,12 20 pieces.

Lavomax - instructions for use, analogs, reviews and release forms (125 mg tablets) of the drug for the treatment of herpes, hepatitis and influenza in adults, children and pregnancy

In this article you can read the instructions for use of the drug Lavomax. Reviews of site visitors - consumers of this medicine, as well as the opinions of specialist doctors on the use of Lavomax in their practice are presented. We kindly ask you to actively add your reviews about the drug: whether the medicine helped or did not help get rid of the disease, what complications and side effects were observed, perhaps not stated by the manufacturer in the annotation. Analogues of Lavomax in the presence of existing structural analogues. Use for the treatment of herpes, hepatitis, influenza, as well as the prevention of colds in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Lavomax is an antiviral and immunomodulatory drug. Lavomax stimulates the formation of alpha, beta, and gamma interferons in the body.

Lavomax has an immunomodulatory and antiviral effect.

After taking the drug orally, tilorone (the active ingredient of the drug Lavomax) is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability is 60%. Tiloron does not undergo biotransformation and does not accumulate in the body. It is excreted almost unchanged in feces (about 70%) and urine (about 9%).

The drug is used in adults as part of complex therapy:

  • viral hepatitis A, B and C;
  • herpetic infection;
