Cromohexal instructions for use ophthalmic

Cromohexal is an antihistamine for eye treatment.

Cromohexal eye drops are an effective antihistamine for the treatment and prevention of chronic and acute allergic eye diseases, including conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis.

Table of contents:

The drug can also be used to relieve symptoms of dryness and irritation of the eyes, fatigue and eye strain.

Cromohexal fights eye irritation, has an anti-edematous effect, and eliminates allergic manifestations that occur when the mucous membrane is exposed to various contact allergens.

Instructions for use

Compound

One milliliter of Cromohexal eye drops contains the following substances:

  • 20 milligrams of sodium cromoglycate;
  • sodium chloride;
  • disodium edetate;
  • uncrystallized liquid sorbitol;
  • benzalkonium chloride;
  • sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate;
  • disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate;
  • sodium hydroxide;
  • water for injections.

Indications for use

This drug is used for the prevention and treatment of chronic and acute allergic keratoconjunctivitis and conjunctivitis, which arise as a result of contact with allergens, such as plant pollen, pet hair, house dust, fungal spores, volatile compounds, etc. Cromohexal can also be used to prevent seasonal allergic reactions, including hay fever and hay fever.

You can also use Cromohexal to eliminate irritation of the mucous membrane of the eyes, which occurs as a result of contact with cosmetics, chlorinated water, smoke, and wind.

This drug is also used for dry eye syndrome, visual fatigue, and to eliminate eye redness and irritation caused by intense visual stress.

The article (link) contains all the reviews about Normax.

How to use?

Before you start taking the drug, you should consult your doctor. Cromohexal eye drops should be injected into the conjunctival sac. If the attending physician has not prescribed any other treatment, the drug is instilled into each eye, 1-2 drops, four times a day.

In case of significantly pronounced allergic manifestations, eye drops can be applied up to eight times a day. The duration of treatment with this method should be determined by the attending physician.

Once the therapeutic effect is achieved, the frequency of use of Cromohexal can be reduced and used only when in contact with allergens.

Contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Cromohexal is individual hypersensitivity to cromoglycic acid or any other component of this drug.

It is not recommended to use Cromohexal in patients under four years of age.

Although there is no data on the negative effect of Cromohexal on the fetus during pregnancy, this drug, especially in the first trimester, must be taken with great caution.

Since cromoglycic acid is excreted in small quantities in mother's milk, taking Cromohexal during breastfeeding is possible only if the benefit expected for the mother outweighs the likely risk for the child.

Side effects

Immediately after using the drug, short-term blurred vision or increased eye irritation may occur - swelling, burning, hyperemia of the conjunctiva, sensation of “sand” or a foreign body.

After a few minutes, these symptoms go away on their own. In very rare cases, inflammation of the meibomian glands of the eyelids (meibomitis), mild damage to the corneal epithelium, and the appearance of barley are noted.

Precautions and special instructions

Since Cromohexal contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride, it is necessary to avoid wearing soft contact lenses throughout the entire period of use of the drug.

If the patient uses hard lenses, they should be removed before instillation of Cromohexal and put on again after 15 minutes.

After each use of the drops, it is necessary to tightly close the bottle with a lid. To prevent microbial contamination, avoid contact of the dropper bottle spout with the skin, eyelashes or mucous membrane of the eye.

Once opened, the bottle can be used for six weeks.

If a day after starting to use this drug there is no reduction in the symptoms of inflammation, or these symptoms intensify, instillation of the drops should be stopped and consult a doctor.

With long-term use, regular monitoring of the state of kidney and liver function is required.

In Russian pharmacies, Kromohexal eye drops can be purchased at an average price of about 100 rubles. The average cost of this drug in Ukrainian pharmacies is 20 hryvnia.

Reviews

Patients respond differently to Cromohexal eye drops. Some note the high effectiveness of this drug, while others claim that it did not help them get rid of allergy symptoms at all. Some patients noted that they quickly became addicted to Cromohexal, so they had to switch to another drug.

Persons suffering from bronchial obstruction or bronchial asthma noted that the use of Cromohexal provoked an increase in coughing attacks in them. From this we can conclude that the described drops are not suitable for all patients.

Before using them, you should consult your doctor. And if, during treatment with Cromohexal, the patient notices that his condition has begun to worsen, he should seek medical help so that the doctor can determine whether this is a reaction to Cromohexal and whether the patient’s condition precludes further use of the drug.

Examples

1. When my baby turned 1 year and 4 months old, I began to notice more and more often that he rubbed his eyes with his hands - well, he rubbed once, twice, or three. However, after a while it became so obvious that it was no longer necessary to think that an eyelash had gotten into the eye. And then it was time to visit the ophthalmologist.

At the appointment, when I complained that the baby was rubbing his eyes, the doctor pulled back the lower eyelid a little and discovered that the mucous membrane there was red, and not pink, as it should be.

In short, the doctor said that this was an allergic reaction, for the treatment of which he prescribed Cromohexal antiallergic drops for the eyes.

The drug is colorless, odorless, I even tasted it - slightly salty. The instructions indicate that side effects sometimes include itching and burning in the eyes.

However, even though the drops were prescribed to my child, and not to me, I first tested Cromohexal on myself. Perhaps, with severe inflammation and conjunctivitis, this drug burns, but my eyes did not react to these drops at all.

The child also allowed the drops in his eyes calmly and then did not cry, from which it was concluded that this drug also did not cause him any discomfort at all.

If we talk about effectiveness, Cromohexal really helped my baby - he stopped rubbing his eyes after just a few days.

2. I really regret that I didn’t find out about this remedy earlier. I started using these drops, and as a result I completely stopped taking allergy pills. And the cost is not that high - I bought a bottle of Cromohexal for 166 rubles. Previously, I had to buy more expensive drugs, but they ran out very quickly.

Conclusion

  • Cromohexal is an antihistamine ophthalmic drug;
  • It can be found in pharmacies in the form of eye drops;
  • It is also recommended to use Cromohexal to relieve eye fatigue;
  • This drug is not suitable for use in children under four years of age;
  • The use of Cromohexal may be accompanied by side effects;
  • If necessary, Cromohexal can be replaced with a similar drug.

All phenomena are short-lived and disappear after discontinuation of the medication.

Eye drops can cause the following effects:

  • deterioration in vision clarity;
  • burning sensation in the eyes;
  • manifestation of lacrimation;
  • foreign body sensation;

Instructions for use of Cromohexal eye drops

Allergic diseases became widespread in the 20th century and became one of the most frequently diagnosed diseases by doctors. According to WHO forecasts, in the 21st century this disease will become one of the first places in terms of prevalence.

Among the manifestations of allergies, itching, watery eyes and redness of the mucous membranes of the eyes are as common as skin or nasal symptoms.

An effective remedy in the treatment of ophthalmic manifestations is Cromohexal eye drops. The drug has not only the ability to prevent and quickly suppress allergic manifestations, but also a fairly low price (about 100 rubles / 10 ml).

Mode of action and composition of Cromohexal eye drops

Cromoglycic acid is an effective remedy in the fight against ocular, nasal and bronchial allergic manifestations: rhinitis, cough, lacrimation, hyperemia of the eyelids and conjunctiva, nasal passages, itching and the sensation of a foreign object in the eye. It is used in many eye allergy medications, nasal drops and sprays.

Cromohexal contains eye drops of cromoglycic acid, which is the main active component of the drug - 2% (per 1 ml - 2 mg).

The effect of the drug is based on the ability of cromoglycic acid to penetrate the membranes of mast cells. It prevents calcium ions from entering mast cells, thereby blocking the release of proglastandins, leukotrienes and bradykinins, as well as histamine. And this, in turn, leads to a decrease in tear production, a decrease in swelling of the mucous membranes and redness of the skin around the eye; relieves inflammation, eliminates itching.

Excipients in the composition of the drug are: disodium edetate and saline solution, hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide, liquid sorbitol, distilled water, and a preservative (benzalkonium chloride).

Indications for use of Cromohexal drops

Eye drops eliminate symptoms of itching, inflammation and lacrimation caused by household dust, plant pollen, fungal spores, and animal hair. The drug is used in the acute period, as well as with prolonged manifestation of symptoms in complex treatment. The instructions for use recommend the use of Cromohexal for:

  • allergic conjunctivitis;
  • allergic keratoconjunctivitis;
  • hay fever (allergic rhinoconjunctivitis).

It is effective to use these eye drops as a prophylaxis during the flowering period of plants and other cases of possible occurrence of ophthalmic allergic reactions.

When treating dry eyes from smoke, strong wind, and volatile substances, the use of Cromohexal is also indicated.

The drug is recommended if there are symptoms of overwork and eye fatigue (working with documents, working at a computer monitor, etc.)

When should Cromohexal not be used?

Individual intolerance to cromoglycic acid will be among the contraindications listed in the instructions. Cromohexal is not prescribed if you are intolerant to other components of the drug.

Other reasons for not using this drug include:

  • Children under 2 years of age. Spray and solution for inhalation are used from 4 years of age.
  • To treat a child under 4 years of age, consultation with a pediatrician or pediatric ophthalmologist is required.
  • Pregnancy. The instructions do not indicate data that would indicate the safety of the drug for pregnant women, so their prescription should always be carried out by a doctor.
  • An absolute prohibition is the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
  • The lactation period (GL) is also considered a contraindication for use. In small doses, the drug passes into breast milk; its effect on the development of the child has not been studied.
  • Do not use the drug in the presence of corneal erosions.

Only 7% of the drug is absorbed by the eye structures, the rest is excreted by the kidneys and liver. The drug is prescribed with extreme caution to patients with renal or liver failure. Long-term treatment with Cromohexal will require constant monitoring of the functioning of these organs (urine and blood tests).

Instillation schemes and features of using Cromohexal

Cromohexal is available in pharmacies without a prescription, but it is advisable to discuss its use with your doctor. As a rule, in acute forms, the drug is instilled into the conjunctival sac, 1-2 drops in each eye after 6 hours. Elimination of symptoms occurs within an hour. Before use, the drops are heated to +20-22.

In the presence of severe lacrimation and hyperemia, the interval between instillations can be shortened to 3 hours. As the symptoms subside, it is increased to 6-7 hours.

When diagnosing seasonal manifestations, Cromohexal is instilled as a prophylactic agent 24 hours before the possible onset of symptoms, 1 drop every 6 hours.

Important. If after 24 hours the allergic symptoms have not disappeared or have intensified, the medication is discontinued and a doctor is consulted.

Interactions with other drugs and side effects of Cromohexal

Among the side effects of Cromohexal, the instructions for use list increased lacrimation, burning and blurred vision as the most common. Symptoms disappear spontaneously within a few minutes after the instillation procedure.

These symptoms after instillation require careful work that requires concentration and driving. Driving and work should be postponed and started no earlier than half an hour after instillation.

For patients using contact lenses, it is recommended to replace them with glasses during treatment. As a last resort, the lenses are put on 20 minutes after instillation. Cromohexal drops contain a preservative that damages lenses and the cornea by depositing on the inside of the lens.

Among the infrequent side symptoms with long-term (more than a month) use or non-compliance with instillation recommendations are:

  • inflammation of the meibomian glands (edges of the eyelids),
  • barley formation,
  • mild erosive lesions of the cornea.

Instructions for use indicate that simultaneous instillation of Cromohexal and taking a corticosteroid causes an increase in the effect of the latter.

Warnings when using the drug

Cromohexal will not have a therapeutic effect in the presence of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis, as well as in the case of fungal infections of the eye structures.

Allergic reactions weaken the immune system, which leads to the occurrence of secondary bacterial infections against the background of allergic manifestations. To avoid unwanted infection, you should adhere to the following instillation rules:

  • Before instillation, wash your hands with soap.
  • Carry out instillation in a clean room.
  • Close the bottle with drops tightly.
  • Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surfaces, including the mucous membranes of the eye.
  • Use drops strictly individually.

Cromhexal should not be applied directly to the conjunctiva of the eye. They should be instilled into the conjunctival sac, onto the mucous membranes. This will help avoid acute burning and side effects.

Cromohexal eye drops can be stored for 6 weeks after opening the bottle. The drug is kept in a place inaccessible to direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding +25. Drops should not be frozen.

A hermetically sealed bottle can be stored for 3 years if the rules are followed.

Analogues of Cromohexal eye drops

In addition to eye drops, in pharmacies under the name Cromohexal you can find: a nasal spray in plastic bottles (15 or 30 ml) with a special spray cap and a solution for inhalation, available in ampoules of 2 ml. Blister tape contains 10 pcs.

Instructions for use of eye drops called Cromohexal

Cromohexal is an antihistamine, available in the form of eye drops and nasal spray. The active component of the drug is disodium salt, isolated from cromoglycic acid. This is an antiallergic drug that effectively eliminates the main symptoms of allergies in the eye area. The medicine is available in 10 ml bottles.

Action of drops

Disodium salt has a stabilizing effect on the membrane elements of basophilic granulocytes. Thanks to the action of this component, the entry of calcium ions into cells is inhibited. Due to the stabilization of membranes, the product helps prevent the release of allergy and inflammatory mediators in the blood, such as histamine, bradykinin, and so on. The drug also prevents degranulation.

After introducing drops into the area of the conjunctival mucosa, only 0.03% of the administered dose enters the systemic circulation. Binds to blood plasma by 65%. The drug is excreted in bile and urine within 24 hours. Metabolites are not released during excretion.

Cromohexal eye drops

Cromohexal in the form of eye drops is used for acute or chronic conjunctivitis with atopic origin - that is, with an allergic manifestation of the pathology during hay fever or seasonal type.

The use of the drug should continue after the symptoms disappear.

Studies regarding the effect of the drug during pregnancy were conducted only on animals. No teratogenic effect was detected. But this does not mean that the drug is safe for use by pregnant women, since adequate studies have not been conducted on this group. Regarding breastfeeding, it is noted that disodium salt passes into breast milk. Despite the fact that the substance is contained in small doses, the use of the product during lactation is not recommended. If there is such a need, you should first wean the child from breastfeeding.

Cromohexal in the form of eye drops is considered the most effective preventive agent, although in the acute phase it can eliminate the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis. When used prophylactically, the effect may occur within a few days, and in some cases, several weeks from the start of administration.

Instructions for use

This remedy is considered the most effective preventive remedy, although in the acute phase it can eliminate the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis. When used prophylactically, the effect may occur within a few days, and in some cases, several weeks from the start of administration. But what are the symptoms and what should be the treatment for conjunctivitis in adults, this article will help you understand.

The drug is used according to the following scheme:

  • Hands are washed with soap first.
  • Next, open the bottle and, pulling back the lower eyelid and looking upward, instill the solution 1-2 drops into each eye.
  • Then blink several times to evenly distribute the liquid over the entire surface of the mucous membrane of the eyeball. Tropicamide eye drops are also very helpful.

Video shows how to properly apply eye drops:

Try not to touch the tip of the bottle to your mucous membranes, eyelashes or eyelids to prevent pathogens from getting onto the bottle or into the solution. The solution is used up to 4 times a day in both adults and children. In general, the intervals between instillations should be 4-6 hours, but if necessary, you can increase the number of instillations up to 8 times a day.

Allergy therapy should be continued after symptoms have resolved. The course is the entire period of action of allergens. If therapy is aimed at eliminating the manifestations of chronic conjunctivitis, then the duration of use of the drops should be determined by the doctor.

No side effects have been recorded for the eye drops, but there is a risk of developing eye irritation. If these symptoms occur, you should stop using the medication and consult a doctor to change the drug. Contraindications for use are hypersensitivity, age under 2 years and the first trimester of pregnancy.

The drug contains cromoglycic acid (sodium cromoglycate) in an amount of 20 mg/ml. if the drug is used in people wearing contact lenses, the doctor must determine the possibility of using drops in each specific case. In the absence of contraindications, the use of drops is permitted, but only taking into account certain features.

The active component is capable of coloring lenses (you can find out what the best toric lenses are by reading the contents of this article), causing them to change color. That is why, before use, hard lenses are removed, after which the medicine is instilled into the conjunctival area according to the standard procedure. Next, the person must wait 15 minutes, after which, after pre-treating the lenses with an antiseptic, put them on again.

It is also worth considering that the drug may impair vision within a few minutes after instillation, but this effect quickly passes. This factor should be taken into account by people who use cars and complex equipment.

The cost of the drug varies depending on the pharmacy within rubles. The product is an affordable medicine, but can be addictive, according to customer reviews. In such cases, it is necessary to switch to an analogue with a similar effect.

    "Cromohexal" (eye drops): instructions for use, reviews and prices

    Every second person now knows what an allergy is. Either he himself or his relatives encountered its manifestations. Therefore, antihistamines have become very popular in pharmacies. One of them is Cromohexal, an eye drop produced by a German pharmaceutical company. After all, an allergy is not just a skin rash or sneezing. Very often it manifests itself as severe itching of the eyes. Without proper treatment, such allergic reactions lead to conjunctivitis or purulent keratitis. Scratching the eyes can cause infection in the conjunctiva, which in severe cases can cause vision loss. Therefore, everyone who suffers from seasonal or household allergies should have Cromohexal (eye drops) in their home medicine cabinet.

    Instructions for use: dosage

    The effect of the drug begins some time after it is instilled into the eyes. But the maximum effect is observed only after a couple of days. Therefore, you need to use Cromohexal (eye drops) to prevent seasonal allergies several days before its possible onset. The drug contains strong chemicals, so it is used only as prescribed by a doctor. You should definitely consult on the dosage of the medicine and the duration of treatment. Cromohexal (eye drops) is usually well tolerated by most patients. Instructions for use recommend instilling 1-2 drops into each conjunctival sac, no more. Do this every 5-8 hours. For most patients, this dosage is sufficient, but with severe manifestations of allergies, the frequency of use can be increased to 8 times a day. It is recommended to instill the drug less frequently after achieving a therapeutic effect. In the future, drops are used when exposed to allergens and during seasonal hay fever.

    Composition of the drug and release form

    The main active ingredient of the drug is cromoglycic acid. It has a very strong effect and is contained in drops in the form of sodium cromoglycate. Its concentration is only 2%. The drug is produced in small plastic dropper bottles to make it easier to maintain the dosage. What other substances does Cromohexal (eye drops) contain?

    — Sodium monohydrogen phosphate and dihydrogen phosphate.

    How do the drops work?

    The effectiveness of the drug is based on the ability of cromoglycic acid to act directly on the membranes of mast cells. These are the cells that are responsible for the production of hormones that cause a reaction to various allergens. And cromoglicic acid prevents the release of histamine, prostaglandins and leukotrienes. In addition, it blocks the movement of calcium ions. That is why Cromohexal so quickly stops and prevents the occurrence of allergic reactions. These eye drops also have the following effect:

    - relieve itching and irritation of the eyes, the feeling of sand and foreign body on the eyeball;

    - eliminate dryness, as they moisturize the mucous membrane of the eyes;

    - have an anti-edematous effect;

    - relieve redness of the conjunctiva.

    Indications for use

    The drug is often prescribed in the complex treatment of many ophthalmological diseases and allergic reactions:

    - acute and chronic conjunctivitis;

    - acute and chronic keratitis and keratoconjunctivitis;

    - itching and redness of the eyes due to hay fever;

    — prevention of allergic reactions;

    - to relieve dryness and irritation of the eyes when they are overstrained, when exposed to dust, wind or cosmetics.

    Contraindications and side effects

    The drug is ineffective against viral and infectious conjunctivitis, cataracts and myopia. Therefore, you can use it only after the recommendation of a doctor. Not everyone can use Cromohexal (eye drops). The instructions warn against their use by pregnant and lactating women. Cromoglycic acid passes into milk and can adversely affect the baby. Sometimes individual intolerance to the components of the drug occurs. In this case, Cromohexal (eye drops) is also not used. The drug is contraindicated for children under 4 years of age, and for older children it can only be used as prescribed by a doctor.

    Some patients do not like the fact that often after instillation of the drug, symptoms of eye irritation intensify: itching, burning and the sensation of a foreign body in the eye. But usually it goes away after a few minutes. Sometimes there is also a decrease in visual acuity. In severe cases, there may be swelling and hyperemia of the conjunctiva or the development of barley. Because of this, many allergy sufferers are forced to abandon the use of such effective drops.

    special instructions

    — The drug should be warm when instilled, so it is recommended to slightly warm the bottle in your hands.

    - Only less than 7% of the drug is absorbed into the blood and after a day is excreted unchanged in bile and urine. But if it is necessary to use Cromohexal for a long time, you need to monitor the condition of the liver and kidneys.

    — It is not advisable to use the drug simultaneously with other eye drops. At least a minute should pass between instillation of the two drugs.

    — While using drops, you should stop using soft contact lenses, and hard ones should be taken out and put back on only 15 minutes after instillation.

    — It is advisable to use an open bottle within 6 weeks, otherwise the drug will only harm the eyes.

    — For the same reason, it is not advisable to touch the dropper spout with your hands or touch your skin with it.

    — If during the day the manifestations of allergies do not decrease, but, on the contrary, intensify, then you should stop using Cromohexal (eye drops).

    Reviews about the drug

    With frequent hay fever or hay fever, patients are ready to buy any medicine. One of the most commonly used is Cromohexal (eye drops). Its price is small - about 100 rubles, but its effectiveness is quite high. After using the drops, patients note the effectiveness of the drug. Many people like its low cost and the fact that when using it, they can avoid expensive antihistamines. Some even used it for children under 4 years old, however, after the recommendation of a doctor, and did not observe any side effects.

    Many people note that Cromohexal (eye drops) helps with eye fatigue after long periods of working at the computer. Its price is much lower than other similar drugs. Therefore, of all the drugs used in ophthalmology, these drops are the most common and popular among both doctors and patients.

    What can replace Cromohexal?

    There are patients who cannot tolerate these drops or cannot find them in the pharmacy. In this case, they can be successfully replaced with another drug. What are the most famous and effective analogues of Cromohexal?

    — “Vizin” also relieves swelling and irritation of the eyes and can be used for allergies.

    “Opatanol” has a similar effect, but is slightly better tolerated by patients.

    — “Okumetil”, in addition to its antihistamine and anti-edematous effects, has an anti-inflammatory effect.

    “Lecrolin” is absolutely identical to these drops, since it has the same composition.

    - “Opticrom”, “Ifiral”, “Vividrin”, “Cropoz” and some others are also absolute synonyms of “Cromohexal”.

    — “Allergodil” is very similar to “Cromohexal” both in composition and in its mechanism of action, although it has a different active ingredient.
