- gastroduodenitis is an inflammatory process that occurs on the mucous membrane of the duodenum and stomach.
The drug can be used as a component of monotherapy or as an adjuvant as part of complex therapy.
Contraindications
The only contraindication to external and local use of the herbal remedy is an allergy to any of its components. When taken orally, Rotokan is prohibited for use in the following conditions:
- individual intolerance to components;
- severe dysfunction of the liver and kidneys;
- age under 18 years;
- chronic alcoholism;
- brain damage or consequences of traumatic brain injury.
Prescription during pregnancy and lactation
The use of Rotocan at any stage of pregnancy is strictly contraindicated.
The use of Rotokan during lactation is possible only if you refuse to breastfeed throughout the entire treatment.
Dosage and method of administration
As indicated in the instructions for use, Rotocan is used in the form of an aqueous solution. It is prepared immediately before use at the rate of 1 teaspoon of extract per 1 glass of boiled warm water. If Rotocan is well tolerated, the dose can be increased to 3 teaspoons per 1 glass of water.
- In dental practice, for inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa, an aqueous solution of the drug is used 2-3 times a day by rinsing for 1-2 minutes or applications lasting minutes. The duration of treatment is from 2 to 5 days.
- In case of periodontitis, after the procedure for removing tartar and cleaning pathological gum pockets, thin turundas are introduced into them, previously abundantly moistened with Rotokan solution. This procedure is carried out daily or every other day for 20 minutes (a total of 4-6 applications are required).
- In gastroenterological practice, the drug is used orally, as well as in microenemas. Rotokan is taken orally half an hour before meals or one minute after meals. A single dose is ml of a diluted solution (1/3-1/2 cup). Frequency of application – 3-4 times a day. Duration of therapy is 2-3 weeks.
Microenemas require ml of Rotokan solution. The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a day, having previously done a cleansing enema. The duration of treatment is 3-6 days.
How to dilute Rotokan for mouth rinse
The concentration must be changed taking into account the patient’s age, disease and localization of inflammation. For throat diseases (ARVI, tonsillitis, sore throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis and others), make a solution:
- A weakly concentrated solution for children is 1 tsp. per glass of water.
- For adults, the dose is increased to three teaspoons with normal tolerability of the drug components.
Since this is an alcohol infusion, children are given a weak rinse solution and half of the prepared medicine is used. The product, even in low concentration, has an unpleasant taste for the child. When treating children, it is necessary to observe what the reaction to the extract will be. If side effects are detected, it means that the baby is hypersensitive to the components and you should stop using the drug.
Side effect
The use of the drug Rotokan may cause side effects in the form of allergic reactions due to individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Overdose
When using a concentrated solution of Rotokan alcohol tincture, a burn to the mucous membrane in the area of its application is possible.
In this case, the use of the drug should be stopped, and the affected tissue area should be washed with a large volume of running water. In the future, the need for anti-inflammatory therapy is determined by the doctor. Systemic negative effects of the drug have not been described.
special instructions
The drug contains ethyl alcohol, so the use of Rotokan limits the ability to drive vehicles and engage in work that requires increased attention.
Reviews
We invite you to read the reviews of people who have used the drug Rotokan:
- Anna . I have chronic tonsillitis and I always have Rotokan at home. Its price is more than affordable - up to 20 rubles, enough for eight rinses. The composition is completely natural. It needs to be stored in the refrigerator, so I dilute it in warm water before rinsing, after rinsing, do not eat or drink anything for half an hour.
- Irina . If you choose between a chemical and a natural medicine, it is better to give preference to a medicine from nature. These include “Rotokan”. This is a herbal tincture in alcohol. Mom had severe stomatitis and ulcers all over her mouth. No medications really helped until the pharmacy recommended Rotokan. After 3 rinses there was noticeable relief, after a week there was no trace of the ulcers left. Since then, we always have it in our family medicine cabinet, just in case, a good and inexpensive medicine.
- Marina. I learned about Rotokan when I was pregnant. I started having tonsillitis and the doctor prescribed this medicine. I didn’t expect such an effect from it, but the inflammation went away very quickly. Now my child is already breastfeeding, and Rotokan is always in the first aid kit. Our family uses it very often for colds and stomatitis, and its cost is low.
Analogs
Rotokan has several structural analogues, which contain the same plant extracts. These are drugs such as Diarotocan, Rotocan Vilar and Zhekaton.
Drug analogues, that is, medicinal preparations similar to the herbal remedy Rokotan in terms of indications for use and effects, are:
Before purchasing an analogue, consult your doctor.
Shelf life and storage conditions
The drug should be kept away from children and pets.
The medicine must be stored at a temperature that will not exceed 15°C. Avoid contact with direct sunlight and water.
If all conditions are met, the medicine can be stored for 2 years. After this time, taking the drug is strictly contraindicated. The medicine should be discarded.

Inhalations with Rotokan in a nebulizer: how to do? Instructions, reviews
The not-many-known solution based on plant raw materials, Rotokan, is not used for inhalation as often as for gargling or oral administration.
Nevertheless, this affordable natural remedy can help quickly recover from various respiratory diseases.
But in the annotation to the medication there is not a word about the possibility of its use for inhalation therapy. So, can Rotocan be used for a nebulizer?
What is Rotokan?
Rotokan is a hydroalcoholic infusion based on extracts of the herb yarrow, chamomile flowers and calendula officinalis. It is packaged in dark glass bottles and has a specific smell.
Due to the presence of a large number of biologically active substances present in these plants, the drug exhibits:
- hemostatic;
- healing;
- anti-inflammatory;
- tonic;
- mucolytic;
- sedative properties.
In this case, each component is responsible for its functions. Chamomile helps eliminate pain, spasms and calm the inflammatory process.
Calendula tones the body, has a calming effect on the nervous system and also helps reduce the severity of inflammation.
Yarrow activates blood flow, which leads to an accelerated flow of immune cells to the site of inflammation, rapid elimination of pathogens and tissue restoration.
All these components in combination complement each other and contribute to the rapid elimination of the inflammatory process, swelling of the mucous membranes and restoration of damaged tissues.
According to many doctors and patients, the most effective way to use the medicine is to administer it by inhalation.
However, it cannot be regarded as a panacea. Rotokan is effective as part of complex therapy, which involves taking various drugs, the choice of which depends on the severity of the pathology, in particular:
Rotocan for inhalation: when is it prescribed? Indications
Due to the presence of alcohol and extracts from plant materials, the drug is an antiseptic, so its administration leads to the creation in the affected area of an unfavorable environment for the growth and active reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms. Inhalation of Rotokan in a nebulizer is indicated for:
- acute respiratory viral infections accompanied by inflammatory processes in any part of the respiratory tract;
- bronchial asthma;
- bronchitis of different types;
- pharyngitis;
- tonsillitis;
- laryngitis, etc.
They help to liquefy viscous mucus and facilitate its removal. But to carry them out, preference should be given to compression models of devices.
Since ultrasonic and other devices destroy useful substances and inhaling their vapors will not have any beneficial effect on the organs of the respiratory system and the body as a whole.
Thus, Rotokan can be used for coughs, including dry ones, runny nose, and sore throat.
It is recommended to start treatment literally from the first days of the onset of symptoms of the disease, this will help the body quickly cope with the pathogens and fully recover in the shortest possible time.
The mechanism of action of the drug is simple. The inhaler creates a fine aerosol containing particles ranging in size from 2 to 20 microns.
Modern models of devices for inhalation therapy make it possible to regulate the size of the produced particles of the medicinal solution, thanks to which it is possible to achieve precision in its delivery to the required area of the respiratory tract.
Thus, medium-sized particles (2–4 microns) are able to reach the lower sections without lingering on the mucous membranes of the nasal and oral cavities, larynx, etc.
Larger particles can penetrate exclusively into the upper sections, completely settle on the mucous membranes and directly exert a therapeutic effect on them. This allows you to treat only that part of the respiratory system where it is really necessary.
To combat rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, the inhaler should be set to a large size of the particles produced, while in the presence of bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma and other similar pathologies, it is necessary to administer the medicine, crushed into the smallest components.
This method of drug administration has the following advantages:
- direct impact on the source of inflammation;
- minimal risk of side effects, since the active substances penetrate the systemic circulation in minimal quantities;
- speed of onset of therapeutic effect;
- Can be used at any age;
- Possibility of use in conjunction with other medications.
Inhalations with Rotokan in a nebulizer: instructions
Inhalations with Rotokan are carried out with a diluted solution. Dosage, that is, dilution proportions for adults and children are different.
Pour the prepared Rotokan into a nebulizer (in a special chamber) and put a mask on the face or use a mouthpiece. Shallow breaths alternate with exhalations of normal intensity.
In order for the manipulation to bring only benefits, you should follow a few simple rules:
How to dilute Rotokan for inhalation?
The solution is prepared immediately before the procedure. Saline solution is used as a solvent.
Since the saline solution is usually packaged in bottles of 100, 200 and 400 ml, it is very important to maintain its sterility throughout use. To do this, you need to remove only the metal protective cap from the bottle and leave the rubber stopper intact.
The dosage for adults is: 1 ml of Rotokan per 40 ml of saline solution. For the convenience of measuring liquids, you can use syringes of 2 and 20 ml or proceed from how many drops are in one milliliter (usually for alcohol solutions it is assumed that 1 ml contains 50 drops).
The finished product can be stored on the refrigerator door in a hermetically sealed sterile glass container, but no more than a day. However, given the low cost of the medicine, it is better to make a new dilution before each session.
Typically, the value of the residual volume is indicated in the instructions for the device and is 1–1.5 ml. The procedure is carried out 2-3 times a day.
Rotokan for inhalation with a nebulizer for children: dosage
For children under 14 years of age, inhalation is one of the few ways to take Rotocan. A child should dilute the drug in the same proportion as an adult, but the procedure is carried out exclusively under the supervision of an adult.
But if adults usually need to pour 5–5.5 ml of liquid into the chamber of the device, then 4 ml is enough for a child. This amount is enough to produce the desired healing effect and cover the cost of the remaining volume.
During pregnancy
Rotocan for inhalation with a nebulizer can be used by both pregnant and lactating women. But before the first session, you must consult a doctor and obtain his approval for this treatment method.
This is necessary because many conditions in pregnant women are physiological. For example, rhinitis during pregnancy often appears in the second or third trimester, which does not require any treatment and goes away on its own after childbirth.
Contraindications
Inhalation with Rotokan is not recommended if you are hypersensitive to the components of the plants that make up its composition.
It is also worth abandoning it in favor of other medications if you have any type of hay fever, since cross-allergy may occur.
Also, children under 2 years of age should not begin to perform them independently. In such cases, they are prescribed exclusively by a pediatrician if there are compelling indications.
We should not forget that the medication contains alcohol, which can burn the baby’s delicate mucous membranes.
The annotation for the drug indicates many other contraindications, but they mostly relate to its oral administration. In particular, the instructions do not recommend using the medication for alcoholism due to the high percentage of alcohol.
But during an inhalation therapy session, only a negligible amount of solution is used (4–5.5 ml); in addition, ethanol penetrates exclusively into the mucous membranes of the respiratory organs and is practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.
Therefore, it cannot harm a patient suffering from alcoholism with this route of administration.
Thus, Rotokan is an affordable, safe natural remedy, the use of which as part of complex therapy helps to cope with various respiratory infections.

The use of antiseptic solution Rotokan in the treatment of sinusitis
Nasal rinsing is an important component of the treatment of sinusitis. This procedure can significantly improve the patient’s condition and speed up recovery by clearing the nasal sinuses and passages of stagnant mucus and pus. This also removes a certain number of microorganisms from the nose, relieves congestion and restores nasal breathing. Quite often in ENT practice, Rotokan solution is used to rinse the nose due to its pronounced antiseptic properties.
Description of the product
Rotokan is a hydroalcoholic extract of 3 medicinal plants: chamomile, yarrow and calendula.
The composition of the drug is selected in such a way that the components complement and enhance each other’s effects. Thanks to this, the solution has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, wound-healing, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Rotokan reduces capillary permeability, enhances regeneration processes in tissues and exhibits some hemostatic effect.
Indications
According to the instructions for use, Rotokan can be used for diseases of the digestive system and in dental practice. Such diseases include:
Use for sinusitis
After reading the indications for use in the official instructions, the question arises whether Rotokan can be used to rinse the nose for sinusitis. Thanks to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties, such use is not only possible, but also very effective. The only caveat is that the inclusion of Rotokan in the complex therapy of sinusitis must be agreed with the attending physician.
Using Rotocan for rinsing does not exclude the need to take other medications prescribed by a doctor. The drug is only a method of auxiliary therapy that helps alleviate the course of the disease and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
Preparing the rinsing solution
To prepare a solution for rinsing the nasal cavity, you need to add 1 teaspoon of the medicinal solution to a glass of chilled boiled water. In case of severe disease and good tolerance of the drug, it is allowed to use 3 teaspoons of Rotocan per glass of water.
The same solution is used to gargle and rinse the mouth.
Washing procedure
Rinsing your nose is not at all difficult. Although at first glance it may seem that this is a very difficult procedure. To implement this, you will need the medicinal solution itself and a device for rinsing the nose. A small syringe, a special watering can or a large syringe without a needle can handle its role.
You should be located near a sink, bathtub, or any container so that there is somewhere to pour the solution during the procedure. Your head needs to be bent forward and turned to the side. A Rotokan solution with water is taken into the rinsing device and poured into the nostril that is higher. The liquid, having washed the nasal passages, will pour out from the second nostril. Then the head is turned in the other direction and the procedure is repeated for the other nostril. If there is too much accumulated mucus, then rinsing is performed several times for each nasal passage. Upon completion of the procedure, you should blow your nose.
It must be borne in mind that this type of nasal cleansing is not very pleasant. During this procedure, irritation and burning of the nasal mucosa may occur.
To ensure more comfortable rinsing of the nose, it is necessary that the temperature of the solution be about degrees. One procedure requires an average of 1 glass of solution. Perform rinsing 2-3 times a day until the condition improves, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.
Contraindications for nasal rinsing
Rotocan has only one contraindication - individual intolerance to the components of the product. There are also age restrictions (up to 12 years), but they most likely relate to oral administration for diseases of the digestive system.
If we talk about contraindications to rinsing the nose itself, there are a few more of them:
- inflammatory process in the middle ear;
- obstruction of the nasal passages;
- frequent nosebleeds;
- tumor formations in the nose.
Other ways to use Rotokan
You can find recommendations to use the drug in the treatment of sinusitis in other ways.
Only inhalation using a nebulizer can be considered safe and effective. To prepare the solution you will need 1 ml of Rotokan and 40 ml of saline. Approximately 4-5 ml of the resulting solution is used for one session. Inhalation allows you to relieve nasal congestion, reduce the manifestation of the inflammatory process and facilitate the outflow of sinus contents.
But the drug should not be used in the form of nasal drops, especially in undiluted form. Alcohol, which is the basis of the drug, causes severe burns to the mucous membrane upon contact with it.
Side effects of the drug
Rotokan is well tolerated. Only in rare cases, in the presence of hypersensitivity to the drug, allergic reactions may develop: itching, redness and rashes on the skin, angioedema, anaphylaxis.
If any undesirable effects occur while using the solution, you must stop rinsing and consult a doctor.
Use of the medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding
No studies have been conducted to confirm the absence of a negative effect of the solution on the fetus or infant. Therefore, the use of medicine in the treatment of sinusitis in these categories of patients can only be carried out under the supervision of a physician.

Prevention of sinusitis: recommendations from doctors
Sinusitis is a dangerous disease in which inflammation of the maxillary sinuses occurs. The main reason for the development of the disease is considered to be bacterial or viral microorganisms that enter the body through the blood or nasal cavity, causing an inflammatory process in the maxillary paranasal sinuses. When complications occur, the upper respiratory tract, periosteum, teeth, and brain tissue become inflamed. Prevention of sinusitis is necessary not only after recovery, but also if you are prone to this unpleasant disease.
Sinusitis is a dangerous disease in which inflammation of the maxillary sinuses occurs.
Prevention
Doctors believe that people with low immunity and who often get sick are especially susceptible to this disease. Preventive measures are carried out if the disease is accompanied by a runny nose, since this symptom is fundamental for the development of sinusitis.
The causative agents are viruses and bacteria that penetrate the paranasal cavity. A weakened immune system cannot protect the body from infection, which multiplies rapidly.
Is it possible to get sinusitis from a sick person? If the inflammation is caused by a virus that is transmitted by airborne droplets, then infection is possible, but only a viral disease.
To prevent sinusitis, you should adhere to the following recommendations:
- Do not overcool; in damp and cold seasons you must wear a hat.
- Prevention of a runny nose is carried out daily. To do this, irrigate the nasal cavity with saline solution or nasal sprays.
- If rhinitis begins, it is recommended to use vasoconstrictors to relieve swelling and increase the outflow of mucus.
- Have your mouth sanitized regularly by the dentist.
- Adenoids, polyps, and chronic tonsillitis cause serious problems, including sinusitis.
- Maintain optimal humidity in the room. Too dry air leads to dry out mucous membranes. As a result, the drainage function and self-cleaning are disrupted.
- Carry out inhalations with alkaline mineral water or saline solution.
- Do breathing exercises - actively inhale/exhale air. Exercises promote ventilation of the paranasal space.
- A facial massage will help you avoid sinusitis when you have a runny nose. Simple actions improve blood supply to the paranasal sinuses, which promotes the resorption of congestion and self-cleansing.
Important! If you are prone to inflammation, it is recommended to instill cyclamen extract into your nose. This is a powerful remedy for sinusitis, which has an antimicrobial effect and removes stagnant mucus.
Traditional treatment
Traditional medicine offers its own, no less effective, methods for treating sinusitis at home. For this purpose, medicinal herbs, bee products, and vegetable juices are used.
A prerequisite for preventing inflammation is irrigating the nasal sinuses with a solution of salt. Additionally, herbs are used that have an anti-inflammatory effect.
Bee products are a powerful weapon for sinusitis
Traditional treatment for sinusitis involves the use of honey and other bee products. The fact is that they are characterized by an antiphlogistic, health-improving effect.
An oil or alcohol solution of propolis is used as drops for inhalation. Daily instillation of 3-4 drops of propolis oil into the nasal passages will help you forget about this disease forever.
Various drops are made with honey; it is used for inhalation and rinsing. Once on the nasal mucosa, it has an anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous effect. When combined with other agents, the effect of the drug is enhanced.
Various drops are made with honey; it is used for inhalation and rinsing.
Prevention of sinusitis at home with honey includes:
- Rinsing - dissolve 2 tsp in 200–250 ml of warm water. honey and rinse the nasal passages.
- Drops – solutions with essential oils have a good effect. For 5–7 g of honey, add 2 drops of olive/vegetable and coniferous oil (pine, fir). The mixture is instilled into each nostril.
- Tampons help remove pus, recovery occurs within 10 days. Treatment of sinusitis with honey, soda and oil is carried out as follows: the products are mixed in equal proportions, a cotton swab is soaked with the resulting solution and inserted into the nostril. Lie on your side so that the nasal cavity with the tampon is at the top. In 10 minutes. The procedure is repeated on the other part of the nose. It is better to use candied honey.
Onion and garlic
Products with phytoncides have long been used to treat various diseases. To obtain the maximum amount of useful substances, it is recommended to grind the heads into a semi-liquid mass.
