This pathology can develop in patients at any age; the causes of the inflammatory process in the maxillary sinus can be any other diseases of nearby ENT organs and infections.
Inhalations are an excellent method of treating colds and viral diseases, including sinusitis. This treatment method is especially effective for the first symptoms of the disease - nasal congestion, difficulty breathing, etc. Official medicine fully and completely supports this procedure.
At home, inhalations for sinusitis can be carried out using a decoction of medicinal herbs. Also used as a basis are ordinary saline solution, essential oils, bee products and other medicines that have a decongestant and bactericidal effect.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of acute sinusitis are:
- nasal congestion;
- headaches (especially if they get worse when tilting your head);
- pain and a feeling of heaviness in the maxillary sinuses (on the side of the wings of the nose);
- decreased sense of smell;
- increased body temperature (usually up to thirty-seven to thirty-eight degrees);
- Nasal discharge can be either mucous (transparent) or purulent (yellow or green).
The sooner treatment for sinusitis begins, the more effective it will be. In addition to drug therapy, nasal rinsing and inhalation are effective.
Benefits of nebulizer treatment
Treatment with a nebulizer has a number of advantages over other methods:
- easier breathing through the nasal passages;
- dilution and removal of accumulated mucus and pus;
- obtaining a drainage effect;
- simplicity and ease of use;
- Possibility of use for the treatment of young children.
Among the most common devices are the following:
- Compressor. Capable of dispersing drugs into a fine cloud through an air stream. Such devices allow you to use almost any solution.
- Mesh nebulizers. Their peculiarity is that ultrasonic waves are created by a special mesh, which is designed in such a way as not to destroy the important components of the drugs.
- Ultrasonic. Forming an effective cloud using ultrasonic waves created by a special membrane in a glass of medicine.
A nebulizer allows the drug to break down into small particles and penetrate deep into the nasal cavity and maxillary sinuses. Inhalations for sinusitis are intended for the administration of vasoconstrictors, antibiotics and other liquid medications.
How to perform inhalations correctly
To ensure that inhalations for sinusitis with a nebulizer bring maximum benefit and do not cause harm, follow these recommendations:
- Before using inhalers, you must clean your nose;
- Therapeutic steam must be carefully inhaled through the mouth, exhaling through the nose;
- Inhale the steam carefully so as not to damage the mucous membranes of the mouth.
- Therapy should be carried out twice a day: morning and evening;
- The course of inhalations is usually carried out from 7 to 10 days;
If you have sinusitis, you should not perform inhalations without medical indications; these procedures should be prescribed by a specialist after examination. First of all, the doctor determines whether the patient has any contraindications to inhalation for sinusitis, including hypersensitivity to medications that can be used for procedures.
Medicines for inhalation for sinusitis with a nebulizer
Inhalations for sinusitis with a nebulizer are an indispensable method of treatment at home. Such inhalations are practically devoid of any disadvantages and have a lot of advantages.
The nebulizer breaks down drops of the drug into the smallest particles, which allows the drug to reach the farthest parts of the respiratory tract. A variety of drugs can be used as medications for inhalation; we will list some of them.
- Polydexa - has vasoconstrictor properties and contains a hormonal drug (dexamethasone) and two antibiotics that provide an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect;
- Rinofluimicil – has vasoconstrictor and secretolytic properties, accelerates the restoration of the mucous membrane;
- Tonsilong N – has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Local antibiotics:
In order to carry out inhalation, first pour 2 ml into the nebulizer. solvent, and then add the number of drops prescribed by the doctor. Distilled water should not be used as a solvent, as it can cause a coughing attack. It is better to use a saline solution, for example, saline, which must be heated to a temperature of degrees.
Inhalations with a nebulizer should be done no earlier than a couple of hours after active physical activity. You should not smoke or drink alcohol before the procedure. In addition, during the course of procedures it is necessary to stop taking expectorant medications, if they were previously prescribed. During the treatment procedure, you need to breathe evenly and slowly.
Steam inhalations using folk remedies
For sinusitis, steam inhalations are often performed using folk remedies, since in this way the active substances of medicinal plants penetrate deeply into the maxillary sinuses and have a healing effect on the nasal mucosa. In addition, this does not require any additional devices.
At home, you can use the following herbal inhalations:
- Steam inhalations with propolis are very simple and quite effective. For them you will need propolis resin, which is placed in a container with purified boiled water. When the container is heated, medicinal propolis vapors are released, which are inhaled. In addition to pure resin, propolis tincture, which is sold in pharmacies, is also used for inhalation. To carry out the procedure, a standardized tincture containing an 80% alcohol solution is mixed with an isotonic solution in a ratio of 1:10, and then placed in a steam inhaler or heated in a water bath.
- You need to take 30 large bay leaves and pour one liter of boiling water over them, boil them for 5 minutes over low heat and leave to steep for 50–60 minutes. After this, you can begin to inhale the vapors of the resulting decoction.
- Boil potatoes in their skins. After it is cooked, take a towel, bend over the pan, and cover your head with the towel. Inhale the potato steam for ten minutes, first through your nose, then through your mouth. At the end of the procedure, it is advisable to drink tea with honey and lemon.
- Combine 1 part celandine with St. John's wort, 2 parts chamomile flowers, 3 parts yarrow. From the resulting mixture you will need 2 tbsp. spoons, pour a glass of boiling water and leave for 30 minutes.
- Mix parts of lemon balm (mint), plantain and celandine in proportions 3:2:2, pour 2 tablespoons of the mixture with hot water (1 glass). After half an hour, you can start inhalation.
- Add 5 drops of essential oil (mint, pine, cedar, eucalyptus, tea tree, etc.) to 500 ml of boiling water. Do inhalation.
- To carry out cold inhalation, take an onion and grate it until it has the consistency of mush. A person does not need to bother himself with a complex recipe or endure the effects of hot steam under a blanket. Onion phytoncides independently penetrate into the nasal passages already during rubbing.
- Mix walnut leaves with yarrow and plantain in a ratio of 1: 2: 3, pour 250 ml of boiling water, leave for an hour and inhale in the traditional way.
The duration of the procedures is about 10–15 minutes and is determined individually for each patient. In most cases, inhalations for sinusitis are performed for 7–10 days at home.
Contraindications
Like any procedure, nebulizer inhalation may be contraindicated for certain diseases and conditions:
- early period after stroke or myocardial infarction;
- body temperature above 37.5 °C;
- decompensated form of cardiovascular failure;
- arrhythmia;
- pulmonary hemorrhage;
- bullous emphysema;
- pneumothorax.
When prescribing any inhalations, the attending physician must take into account the patient’s age, the nature of the disease, concomitant pathologies, and chronic diseases.

Devices for treating runny nose at home
A runny nose is one of the most common diseases. This disease has plagued people since early childhood. Some people are more resistant to this disease, while others get it several times a year.
Many people prefer to be treated for a runny nose without the use of medications, which have a number of side effects and contraindications. An alternative in such cases are devices that allow you to get rid of rhinitis at home.
How are devices useful for treating a runny nose?
It is wrong to ignore the appearance of a runny nose without taking any measures to treat it. An advanced form of this disease can lead to the following ailments:
If you do not want to use medications, but still want to get rid of the disease as quickly as possible, you can use devices that allow you to quickly get rid of rhinitis without side effects. Using modern technologies, medical equipment manufacturers offer various devices designed specifically for the treatment of runny nose and other colds, which can be carried out at home.
Each device works according to its own principle: it acts with infrared rays, steam, electrical discharges, and heat. Their work is aimed at destroying infectious agents, so that the disease quickly passes.
Device "Fairy" (UTL-01)
The “Fairy” device will allow you to quickly get rid of rhinitis. It is intended for the treatment of runny nose, sinusitis, and a number of other respiratory diseases. Its effect is based on warming up areas affected by pathogenic bacteria. Pathogenic microorganisms die at temperatures of 40 degrees and above. This is exactly what happens in the maxillary sinuses when they are heated by the device.
Increased blood flow in the nasopharynx after warming it up also contributes to rapid recovery. Thanks to this, the mucous membrane heals, snot stops coming out, and breathing becomes easier.
The Fairy device is effective and easy to use, which has led to its frequent use for the treatment of runny nose in clinics. But when resorting to its help, it is worth remembering that there are a number of contraindications for which it is not recommended to use the “Fairy” device:
- Skin diseases in the area where heating will occur;
- Heat;
- Alcohol intoxication;
- Active tuberculosis;
- Neoplasms;
- Severe inflammation of the nasopharynx with the formation of ulcers.
The device can be used to treat babies older than one year. But be careful, a small child has very sensitive skin. And so that it continues to remain the same pink and tender, do not bring the device too close.
Steam inhaler "MiraclePar"
The Miracle Steam inhaler will quickly relieve a runny nose. Treatment of colds by inhaling vapors has been carried out since ancient times. This device makes this procedure safe, since it always maintains a steam temperature of 43 degrees, which will protect against burns to the mucous membrane. Its advantage is the absence of contraindications, except for individual intolerance to fumes.
Inhaling vapors with essential oils is more effective. Pathogenic bacteria do not tolerate eucalyptus, fir, sea buckthorn, and tea tree. Inhalations using oils from these plants will quickly soothe the irritated nasal mucosa and the runny nose will subside.
The MiraclePar device can be used by people of any age, which is also its advantage.
Irradiator OUFK-01 “Sun”
Quartz lamps are also used to treat a runny nose. They have a detrimental effect on microorganisms that cause disease. The “Sun” device can be used to treat an already developed disease and for the purpose of its prevention. The quartz emitter helps strengthen the immune system, so colds will be less likely to affect the body.
The device is suitable for use at home. Its use requires careful reading of the attached instructions. Ignoring the rules of use is not recommended, as this can be fraught with exacerbation of existing diseases or rapid failure of the device itself.
Not everyone can use quartz lamps for treatment. The device has a wide range of contraindications, which you must familiarize yourself with before using it.
Using darsonval to treat a runny nose
A device called darsonval will help you cure a runny nose at home. It acts with high-frequency current on the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, destroying the infectious agents present in it. Electrical discharges improve blood circulation, due to which beneficial substances are supplied to the irritated areas of the mucous membrane, promoting its healing.
To get rid of a runny nose, 10–15 procedures will be enough. But in order to increase the effectiveness of treatment, it is recommended to use darsonvalization in combination with other treatment methods. The device is also used to prevent colds.
Like any device, Darsonval has contraindications for which it cannot be used. It is strictly forbidden to use it by people with a pacemaker. It is not recommended for pregnant women to use it. It is contraindicated at high temperature, arrhythmia and tuberculosis.
Reflector (blue lamp) “Clear Sun”
An excellent remedy for treating a runny nose is a blue lamp that emits dry heat and infrared light. The device is easy to use, which is why it is so popular. The device is perfect for use at home.
People of all age categories can be treated with it. The reflector has a minimum of contraindications, which is its advantage. It should not be used by people suffering from cancer. Also, you should not resort to treatment with a blue lamp at elevated temperatures.
Using the above-mentioned devices, you can quickly get rid of a runny nose, which causes many problems. But when choosing a device, do not forget about the contraindications that almost each of them has. It is best to consult a doctor before use, who will advise the best option for treating a runny nose and other colds.

Sinusitis: folk treatment of the disease with ointments, propolis, herbs...
When diagnosed with sinusitis, folk treatment is used everywhere. This section of medicine has a lot of recipes and recommendations for combating the disease. Many of them are quite effective, some, like calcium gluconate for sinusitis, are absolutely useless. In order not to harm the body, you need to know how this or that remedy works.
Treatment of sinusitis with herbs, plants, root vegetables
Most often, traditional medicine uses herbs: treatment of sinusitis with cyclamen, celandine, St. John's wort, sage or aloe is very common. Typically, plants are used topically. They are used to eliminate:
- inflammation of the nasal mucosa and sinuses;
- swelling of the mucous membrane;
- purulent contents of the sinuses (it liquefies and is eliminated naturally).
Usually, for sinusitis, herbs are used to prepare decoctions. But this is far from the rule - for example, cyclamen tubers are used raw. To obtain the medicine, they are passed through a meat grinder, squeezing out the juice. Then two drops are instilled into each nasal passage. After a couple of minutes, the patient experiences excessive sneezing, coughing, and sweating.
It is quite difficult to bear the consequences of instilling cyclamen juice into the nose, but the nasal passages are completely cleared of contents. When diagnosed with sinusitis, herbal treatment is sometimes really advisable.
Treatment of sinusitis with celandine has not only a similar result, but also the procedure for preparing the product. The juice of this plant is very hot, therefore, unlike cyclamen, it is diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 1. Since celandine and cyclamen cannot relieve swelling in sinusitis, they are used only to free the nasal passages from mucus.
Onions and garlic for sinusitis
Among plants, when treating the disease, not only herbs for sinusitis are used - onions and garlic are the most commonly used root vegetables. The simplest medicine that is effective for acute forms of the disease, as well as for viral infections, is onion juice. It is instilled into each nasal passage, 3-4 drops.
There are also more complex recipes using medicinal root vegetables and medications, in particular, sinusitis is treated with Vishnevsky ointment. We mix this product with previously prepared freshly squeezed juice of cyclamen, Kalanchoe, onion and aloe. We take each component in equal parts.
We moisten cotton pads with ointment and insert them into each nostril. The resulting mixture is used to treat purulent forms of sinusitis. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes. Sessions must be repeated for 20 days.
The use of such an ointment for sinusitis helps remove exudate (pus) from the sinuses, but can cause severe burns to the mucous membrane, so the product must be used carefully.
Today, not only the treatment of sinusitis with onions is popular - garlic is also a very important component of many recipes. To obtain nasal drops, grind both root vegetables. Take equal parts of each ingredient and add vegetable oil so that the liquid covers the mixture. After 14 days, the resulting medicine can be used to cleanse the nasal passages.
At the initial stage of the disease, dry heat for sinusitis is useful - the garlic is crushed and mixed with heated salt. The resulting mixture is placed in a bag and applied to the affected sinuses. Such procedures are prohibited in case of purulent form.
Remember that it is important to completely cure the insidious disease of sinusitis: onions, garlic and other plants, however, cannot do this. But using them as aids is not prohibited.
Balms, oil tinctures for sinusitis
Among the folk remedies used to treat various sinusitis, essential oils for sinusitis are often used: tea tree oil, fir oil, camphor oil and others. You need to buy these drugs only at the pharmacy. They are used:
- when rinsing the nose;
- in the form of nasal drops;
- for inhalations.
Washing
Tea tree oil for sinusitis is best used for rinsing, as the product has an anti-inflammatory effect. To prepare the solution, use 10 drops of oil in half a glass of water.
Also, propolis tincture for sinusitis can be added to the washing solution - honey is not used for such purposes. Add 2-3 drops of tincture per serving.
We suck the resulting liquid into the nose, hold it for 30 seconds, and blow our nose. In one procedure it is necessary to use up all the liquid; the session must be repeated once a day.
Nasal drops
Often, nasal drops for sinusitis include a 10% propolis tincture: for sinusitis, camphor oil and unrefined sunflower oil are used as ingredients for the preparation of such a remedy. All three components are taken in equal parts, mixed and instilled three drops three times a day. The medicine helps cleanse the sinuses, and after use the headache is significantly reduced.
To prepare drops, birch tar is used for sinusitis; ginger is used less often for this purpose. It is often consumed as a drink as a means of strengthening the immune system.
Another popular drug is birch tar drops, which are an excellent antiseptic. You can buy them at almost any pharmacy. Using a pipette, instill a couple of drops of the product into the right nasal passage. In this case, the patient lies on the same side and does not turn over for the next 10 minutes. Then we perform the same procedure with the left move. The smell of the medicine is very pungent, but when sinusitis is completely tormented, this is not the worst drawback.
If you don’t want to bother preparing solutions and making sure that all proportions are strictly observed, then you can use a ready-made balm for a runny nose and sinusitis. It also contains eucalyptus, tea tree, and mint oils. The only contraindication for use is hypersensitivity to the components. You can purchase this instillation product at a pharmacy. They will also advise you on other similar medications.
An equally effective remedy in the fight against the disease is the drug Vitaon - it is recommended quite often for sinusitis. The peculiarity of its use: when instilling, you need to tilt your head back strongly so that the nostrils are directed vertically upward. The product promotes intensive cleansing of mucous membranes.
Inhalations
Inhalations are carried out to reduce the symptoms of the disease. Often fir oil is used for them: for sinusitis, birch tar is practically not used in such procedures due to the unpleasant odor. To conduct an inhalation session with fir, place 5-7 drops of oil in a glass of hot water. The aroma must be inhaled until it completely evaporates.
Thuja oil is used in the same way for sinusitis. Both products have antiseptic properties. In order for the medicine to be more effective, the procedure must be carried out after the nasal passages have been cleared of mucus.
In any case, no matter what you decide to take for sinusitis - ginger, essential oils or herbs - first consult with an ENT specialist.
Treatment of sinusitis with beekeeping products
Traditional treatment of sinusitis cannot do without the use of bee products. Recently, a number of drugs have appeared that are ready for use. Quite often you can find recommendations to use Tentorium for sinusitis - propolis is used in this medicine as a base substance.
The bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties of the natural product are preserved in the finished product. There are several forms of drug release:
- dragees – to restore immunity;
- aqueous extract for nasal rinsing;
- a mixture containing animal oil and propolis - for sinusitis is most often used for application with cotton wool. Has antimicrobial, antiviral effects;
- cream for application to the nasal mucosa.
Each of the release forms has its own indications for use, frequency of doses (or procedures) and duration of treatment. To overcome Tentorium sinusitis with the help of drugs - it is not necessary to grind and grind propolis, you just need to strictly follow the instructions for the product.
Devices for the treatment of sinusitis
A physiotherapeutic device for the treatment of sinusitis, the bioptron, can also be used at home; it does not require a medical education to use. The advantage is also:
- impossibility of overdose;
- no side effects.
This light device relieves symptoms and speeds recovery. Therefore, if you have a bioproton device, sinusitis can be treated, but it must be complex using conservative therapy.
Sometimes at home they try to use a vitaphone for sinusitis. The effectiveness of this vibroacoustic device has not yet been proven. Therefore, in order not to waste time, it is not recommended to treat sinus inflammation with this device.
A more effective and proven method of treatment is magnetic therapy for sinusitis. During the session, the human body is exposed to magnetic fields. Such procedures can only be prescribed by a doctor and should be performed exclusively by a specialist.
In parallel with the sessions, the use of dietary supplements, such as colloidal silver, is often prescribed: for sinusitis, compresses from this substance are not used.
Non-traditional treatment methods
Traditional medicine not only has recipes that use garlic and onions for sinusitis - yoga is also a popular means of healing. This type of treatment is expressed in influencing certain points.
Using rotational strokes for 4-5 minutes, pressure is applied to certain areas in the face, back and neck, which significantly alleviates the patient’s condition.
It is worth noting that when exclaiming: help cure sinusitis, yoga will not be a panacea. But it can be freely used as a concomitant measure in an integrated approach.
Acupuncture for sinusitis is similar in result and procedure. Such sessions can only be carried out by a specialist, and in the case of an odontogenic form of the disease, improvements should not be expected from this method of therapy.
Many folk remedies for sinusitis are recommended: garlic and honey, propolis and essential oils are included in most recipes passed down over the centuries. There are also newer recommendations. When diagnosed with sinusitis, Ayurveda, yoga and acupuncture today are becoming no less popular than grandma’s remedies.
How to be treated is up to you. The main thing to remember is that if you suspect inflammation of the sinuses, first go to the doctor, and only then, with his permission, do compresses, rinses, drops and other folk treatments.
only to be carried out by a doctor!

Treatment of sinusitis at home
Not every cold that seems trivial at first glance can result in a complete recovery. Subsequently, complications may develop, and at the most unexpected time. The most common complication is inflammation of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. The so-called maxillary sinuses suffer from infections and viruses; purulent contents accumulate in them, which is why an active inflammatory process begins. Treatment of sinusitis at home should begin as early as possible.
Even the most common runny nose is dangerous if it continues for a long time or repeats too often. That is why it is important to treat a runny nose in a timely manner, and not hope for its self-healing. Few people know that even dental disease can lead to sinusitis. If the upper row of teeth is left for a long time without treatment, then the pus that accumulates in the cavity of the diseased tooth can also enter the sinuses.
The duration of sinusitis can be up to several months in the absence of proper treatment. Doctors always prescribe antibiotics, selecting treatment for each patient strictly individually. In addition to antibacterial drugs, a number of medications will be required to restore the integrity of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx. Sinusitis is dangerous because it easily becomes chronic. Most often, this occurs due to the fact that the patient, having felt relief after several days of taking antibiotics, immediately refuses the medication.
Reluctance to take medications, especially strong antibiotics, is quite natural. The list of side effects from such therapy can be endless. As a result, the coordinated work of all internal organs is disrupted, and, in addition to sinusitis, dysbacteriosis and many other complications appear. In addition, it is worth taking into account that sinusitis is of fungal origin. The fungus cannot be treated with antibiotics.
So how to properly treat sinusitis at home?
In the treatment of sinusitis, rinsing with special solutions, as well as physiotherapy, are also used. Doctors strongly recommend punctures as an effective treatment for purulent sinuses.
A modern method of treatment is laser therapy: it has an anti-inflammatory effect, effectively destroys infections and viruses, but it also has its drawbacks. Laser exposure has a detrimental effect on the general immune system, and quite negatively.
Fortunately for many Internet users, you can find a huge amount of folk remedies and advice on the Internet. Some people insistently recommend treating sinusitis at home using cotton swabs soaked in kombucha tincture. Some people praise inhalations over hot water and honey, and there are those who are convinced of the effectiveness of rinsing the nostrils with chamomile decoction. All these methods and means can give a certain positive result, but, as a rule, not long-lasting. The inflammation stage of sinusitis can be overcome, but viruses and fungi cannot be completely destroyed.
Sinusitis affects approximately 20% of the population of our Earth. Neither adults nor children are immune from this disease. It is the most difficult to cure the youngest members of the family, because antibiotics are very harmful to the child’s body, and punctures cause great discomfort.
The most effective way to treat sinusitis at home
Of the newest methods of successfully treating sinusitis at home, bioresonance therapy has taken first place. It has earned its popularity for several reasons: high efficiency, painless effects, and absence of side effects. In addition, the convenience of bioresonance therapy is due to the use of the Lidomed-Bio device. This device is designed to treat a wide range of diseases, including sinusitis. Scientists and highly qualified general practitioners took part in its creation, who managed to incorporate more than 3,000 regimes and 62 special treatment complexes into the program.
Bioresonance therapy is designed to influence the body through electromagnetic oscillations, the frequency of which coincides with the oscillations of the human electromagnetic field. The basis of bioresonance treatment is the effect of restoring the frequency of vibrations that is inherent in nature, and at which a person feels comfortable, and viruses and bacteria in his body die. The impact of bioresonance therapy allows you to remove toxic products from the body that are formed as a result of the activity of pathogenic microorganisms and fungi. Therefore, each session allows you to improve your well-being and take a significant step towards recovery.
Bioresonance therapy is not only an effective method of treating sinusitis at home, but also an excellent way to prevent hundreds of common diseases for each family member, including diseases such as sinusitis. It is carried out using the Lidomed-Bio device, which can operate in wired and wireless modes. What could be more successful than pleasant treatment in the comfort of your own home? Enjoy the benefits of bioresonance therapy and forget about the need to constantly buy expensive medications!
Effective! Treatment with bioresonance therapy eliminates the very cause of the disease
Economical! You no longer have to buy a bunch of expensive and unnecessary pills
Just. Lidomed-BIO devices are easy to use, even a child can handle them
Effective! Confirmed by many clinical trials and relevant documents
Fast! The effect of treatment is noticeable after 1-2 sessions

How to treat sinusitis with the MAGOFON-01 device
Normal nasal congestion is often a sign of sinusitis: if you do not pay attention to it in time, the disease progresses and enters the stage of an acute inflammatory process that affects the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus.
The danger of sinusitis cannot be underestimated: this is not an ordinary runny nose, but a serious inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. When the disease passes into the chronic stage, the nearest sinuses are involved in the inflammatory process: their walls are quite thin - they form the orbit and are in close proximity to the brain. The chronic form of sinusitis is fraught with complications: the patient has a risk of developing meningitis, the infection spreading to the orbit, the development of neuritis of the ternary nerve, tonsillitis and pharyngitis. This means that you need to start treating sinusitis as quickly as possible.
Fortunately, in most cases the prognosis is favorable and with due attention to health, the acute stage of the disease passes in 1-2 weeks.
What is sinusitis
Sinusitis is an infectious disease that leads to the development of an inflammatory process in the maxillary paranasal (maxillary) sinuses - on one or both sides. They are sent out by the mucous membrane - a layer of epithelium that is adjacent directly to the bone tissue. The sinuses have common walls with the cavities of the eye sockets, mouth and nose: in normal condition they produce mucus, which goes into the nasal cavity.
The maxillary sinus is an air-filled cavity and, along with other paranasal sinuses - the sphenoid, two ethmoid and two frontal, ensures equalization of pressure in the cavity formations of the cranial bone. The sinuses warm and purify the inhaled air, and also form the voice - a person owes his individual timbre to the structure of the bones of the skull and the location of the cavities in it.
All sinuses connect to the nasal cavity through small openings. Obstruction of ventilation and drainage properties of the sinuses leads to the accumulation of microbes and the development of the inflammatory process of the mucous membrane. Stagnation of mucus provokes the onset of the inflammatory process.
In the acute stage of the disease, inflammation engulfs the layer of epithelial cells and the smallest vessels and tissues located underneath it; in the chronic stage, inflammation involves submucosal tissue and bone walls in the process.
Sinusitis is also called maxillary sinusitis or maxillitis. The disease is quite common: among all ENT diseases, more than 15% of cases are sinusitis.
Doctors distinguish the following types of sinusitis: catarrhal, parietal hyperplastic, polypous, purulent, fibrous, cystic, complicated, allergic and odontogenic.
It has been proven that the disease most often develops in people with a mesomorphic type of facial skeleton structure, with a deviated nasal septum and diseased upper teeth (odontogenic sinusitis).
Symptoms of sinusitis
Symptoms of sinusitis are manifested in the appearance of a runny nose, difficulty in nasal breathing, nasal congestion and a change in voice: the patient’s timbre changes and the voice becomes nasal, and pain in the nose and paranasal cavity also appears.
During the day, the pain changes its intensity - in the morning it is not so pronounced, and in the evening it often becomes stronger. Over time, local headaches make themselves felt more and more often.
During the acute phase, you can observe abundant discharge from the nasal cavity, mucous, mucopurulent or purulent in nature. In the acute phase of sinusitis, the intensity of discharge in the morning hours is maximum.
Patients complain of a feeling of “squeezing” and “heaviness” in the area of the canine and infraorbital fossa (the area between the lower edge of the orbit and the upper lip), the base of the nasal bone (the root of the nose). With sinusitis, pain can radiate to the temporal or superciliary region and calm down when the patient takes a lying position.
Stages of development of sinusitis
The development of the disease occurs in stages, and the rate of progression depends on the person’s immunity. Almost all viruses that can infect the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract can cause sinusitis.
There are acute and chronic stages of development of sinusitis.
Acute sinusitis is characterized by impaired sense of smell and nasal congestion - even vasoconstrictor drugs often cannot cope with swelling of the mucous membrane. The acute form of sinusitis is accompanied by nasal discharge, pain in the cheek and fever - especially in the case of bacterial sinusitis. The patient feels weak, tired and cannot perform his usual duties.
With chronic sinusitis, all the signs of the acute stage remain, but become blurred: signs of dull pain appear in the infraorbital region, which can spread to the bridge of the nose, forehead and temporal areas. Sometimes during the chronic stage of sinusitis, patients develop conjunctivitis.
The transition of the disease to the chronic stage involves alternating exacerbations of 3-4 months, which, in the absence of treatment, become more frequent. The chronic stage is often characterized by increased discharge of mucous and purulent masses in the morning, which accumulates in the maxillary sinuses during sleep. Sinusitis is often accompanied by a dry cough that does not respond to conventional treatment - it occurs due to the impact on the back wall of the nasopharynx, which is irritated by mucus draining from the sinuses.
In the chronic stage of sinusitis, the symptoms are not so pronounced and after the acute stage, many patients believe that the disease has subsided. Almost always, the chronic stage of sinusitis occurs with incomplete or improper treatment of the acute stage.
What causes sinusitis?
In most cases, the cause of sinusitis is an infection that enters the nasal cavity during breathing or through the blood. The likelihood of infection directly depends on the quality of the immune system. If a person often suffers from colds, has allergies, or has neglected upper teeth, the chances of developing sinusitis increase.
Sinusitis begins due to improper or incomplete treatment of colds. The epithelium of the nasal sinuses has much in common with the surface of the respiratory tract, and therefore many viruses are able to penetrate the sinuses and cause sinusitis. The following factors predispose to the occurrence of sinusitis can be identified:
- Congenital disorders in the development of the anatomy of the nasal cavity;
- Deviated nasal septum, enlarged turbinates, vasomotor rhinitis;
- Long-term chronic diseases;
- Activation of staphylococcal infection.
Activation of staphylococcal infection can occur against the background of hypothermia, draft or prolonged stay in a room with dry or heated air.
How to treat sinusitis with the MAGOFON-01 device
Before starting the procedure, it is recommended to consult an ENT doctor. Treatment of sinusitis begins after the acute phase of the disease and cleansing the contents of the nasal sinus. The device is installed on the area of the maxillary sinus; for bilateral sinusitis, treatment is carried out alternately. Treatment is carried out once a day. The first course of treatment is designed for two weeks with a break in treatment for two days. The exposure time for one sinus is from 3 minutes at the beginning of the course to 6 minutes at the end.
Every other day it is necessary to carry out a second course of treatment, where the time of exposure to one sinus is selected from 4 minutes at the beginning of the course, to 7 minutes on the day, 6 minutes on the 13th day and 5 minutes on the last day. Just like in the first course, after the 7th day of procedures, a break in exposure for two days is necessary.
After 3-4 months, it is necessary to carry out a maintenance course of therapeutic intervention. The course is conducted for two weeks, with a break of two days. The exposure time is from 4 minutes for each sinus, up to 7 minutes by day 12. On the 13th day, the exposure time decreases and is 6 minutes, on the last day of the course – 5 minutes.
It is advisable to choose a specific time for the procedure, with a reserve of rest for a few minutes after exposure.
Therapeutic effect of the MAGOFON-01 device
The MAGOFON-01 device allows you to influence the nasal sinus with two types of influence - a non-uniform alternating magnetic field and a broadband vibroacoustic signal.
Vibroacoustic vibrations and an alternating magnetic field can increase the permeability of vascular walls and improve lymph outflow. Improving the quality of blood supply to the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus helps reduce swelling and restore breathing.
The mechanism of the effect of a magnetic field on tissue is its ability to restore the electromagnetic parameters of cells, thereby improving intercellular and intracellular exchange. Under the influence of the MAGOFON-01 device, blood fluidity improves and the lumen of blood vessels increases, which makes it possible to more effectively organize blood supply and metabolism in the area of influence.
The MAGOFON-01 device has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect; in combination with heat therapy, its effectiveness can be further increased.
Complex therapy: a combination of medications and physical therapy
A course of treatment with the MAGOFON-01 device allows you to reduce the doses of medications taken, especially vasoconstrictors: these are drops, inhalers, antibacterial and antihistamines. The effect is based on the properties of exposure to a non-uniform magnetic field, which helps to improve cell permeability and more intense intercellular exchange - it is these properties of radiation that make it possible to enhance the pharmacological activity of the drugs used.
Reducing doses of medications allows you to reduce the negative impact of medications on the body, as well as reduce the cost of purchasing them.
Advantages of the MAGOFON-01 device in the treatment of sinusitis
Reduces swelling of the maxillary sinuses and helps improve their drainage and ventilating properties;
Improves blood flow in the nasal area, which allows the rehabilitation process to be carried out more effectively;
By expanding the lumen of blood vessels, MAGAFON reduces pressure in the nasal sinuses and relieves headaches;
MAGOFON-01 is able to enhance the effect of medications, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the dose;
Improving the quality of intercellular metabolism restores the natural environment of the epithelium and the quality of nasal mucus;
The device is easy to use and can be used to treat the whole family.
MAGOFON-01 is your universal assistant. Breathe correctly - breathe through a clean nose!

Sinusitis and its treatment with modern methods
Each of us at least once tried to fight a runny nose, and then gave up, guided by folk wisdom: without treatment, a runny nose goes away in a week, and with treatment, in seven days. There is one rational grain in this funny paradox - a runny nose should last no more than a week, otherwise you need to rush to the ENT doctor.
Those who like to experiment with their health, of course, can try dozens of traditional methods of treatment on themselves, but this often leads to the transition of a common runny nose into a chronic one. The result is hospitalization and even surgery. Let's start with the symptoms and causes, and then consider the most effective modern methods of treating sinusitis.
Symptoms
You can suspect that you have sinusitis if you have:
- nasal congestion;
- pain radiating to the temple, reminiscent of a toothache;
- increased pain when the head is tilted sharply;
- pain when pressing on the sinus area;
- purulent or mucous discharge from the nose.
The listed symptoms can be expressed only during the period of exacerbation and fade during the chronic course of the disease, but the absence of symptoms does not mean complete recovery. Incomplete cure of the disease leads to its transition to a chronic form.
Why does a runny nose go away on its own in some people, while in others it turns into sinusitis?
Causes
There are many reasons, of which we will name the top five:
- infection of the maxillary sinus with pneumococci, streptococci or fungi due to a prolonged runny nose or cold;
- disease of the upper canines;
- general decrease in immunity and contamination of the mucous membrane with pathogenic microflora;
- allergic reactions of the mucous membrane of the sinuses;
- disruption of mucus outflow due to injury.
Once the cause is determined, the doctor can choose the most effective treatment strategy.
Modern methods of treatment
To avoid the need for surgery, you need to start treatment as early as possible. Treatment of sinusitis is prescribed depending on the cause of the disease. If sinusitis occurs due to a carious tooth, the tooth is removed. If it is due to an allergy, they act on its cause. But most often they use medications and physiotherapeutic methods of treatment. Pharmacology for the treatment of sinusitis offers the following drugs:
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- vasoconstrictor drops;
- antibacterial;
- mucolytic, or mucus-thinning agents;
- anti-inflammatory corticosteroids in the form of drops.
To achieve maximum effect, a highly qualified doctor combines drug treatment with other means, including hardware physiotherapy.
Treatment of sinusitis using hardware physiotherapy methods
The greatest effect is achieved by combining drug treatment with physiotherapy. The sinuses are exposed to heat, light radiation or a magnetic pulse field, which stimulates the body's defense reactions with the production of antibodies.
The doctor prescribes a course of local procedures to the patient using special devices.
- The UHF device deeply heats tissue with a high-frequency electric field.
- Tube-quartz treats with ultraviolet rays, improving blood circulation and tissue resistance to viruses.
- The laser has a therapeutic effect on the sinuses with infrared and ultraviolet rays.
- The new generation device UNILOR has a complex effect - a magnetic field, heat, light pulses in the red range.
With traditional physiotherapeutic treatment, the sinuses are exposed to one factor that either reduces inflammation of the mucous membranes, or relieves pain, or helps to destroy pathogenic microorganisms, therefore the procedures carried out with their help are not suitable for the treatment of all types of sinusitis. Treatment with the UNILOR device, which has a complex effect, gives a positive effect for sinusitis of various etiologies.
Devices for the treatment of many diseases, produced by the Elatomsky Instrument Plant, are supplied to the retail chain under the ELAMED brand. You can view them on the website.
Treatment of sinusitis with the UNILOR device
- After turning on, the device warms up and you can begin treatment by taking a comfortable position.
- To treat sinusitis, a heating element is used, which is applied to the back of the nose through three layers of gauze and secured with a holder or other means.
- The procedure is carried out two or three times a day for minutes per session.
In a similar way, UNILOR is used to treat frontal sinusitis (sinusitis) and rhinitis. If the procedure is performed correctly, the patient should feel a slight thermal effect.
A manual for using the UNILOR device can be found here.
5 advantages of treating sinusitis with the UNILOR device
ELAMED produces UNILOR devices for use at home, in hospitals and outpatient clinics, but using them at home gives the patient a number of advantages:
- home procedures significantly save time, which allows you to perform several procedures a day, speeding up the healing process;
- after using the device, there is no need to go outside, which is contraindicated for an hour, since cold, humid air negates the effect of physiotherapeutic treatment;
- the effectiveness of drug treatment is significantly increased due to the direct effect on the source of inflammation;
- it becomes possible to reduce the doses of drugs or completely abandon them, which is especially important for patients suffering from drug allergies;
- The device is designed specifically for the treatment of children from one year of age and adults.
UNILOR devices can also be used for the treatment of adenoiditis, tonsillitis, acute respiratory infections, otitis (and other ear diseases), for prevention during periods of influenza and ARVI epidemics.
Treatment of sinusitis with medications in combination with the use of modern physiotherapeutic procedures significantly reduces recovery time and prevents relapses of the disease, as it affects the causative agents of inflammation of the mucous membranes of the maxillary sinuses.
