I have been using Pinosol for 15 years at the first symptoms of a runny nose. This is one of the essential medicines in my home medicine cabinet. The drops seem to lubricate the nasopharyngeal mucosa and soften it. Again, thanks to the composition, but in the morning I already got rid of not only a runny nose, but also a sore throat. Lovely, in a word.

But everything tends to come to an end (especially since some of our family members get sick very often) and the droplets died)))) I went for Pinosol, which I already loved , but since there were no drops I had to take a nasal spray “Pinosol” with a similar one, it seemed to me , composition and appearance. A runny nose (doctors say rhinitis) is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa. Most often, it is caused by an infection, viral or bacterial. The main symptoms of a runny nose are nasal congestion and discharge. In principle, it is possible to cope with this without medications. For example, to ease breathing, you can use a hot foot bath or place mustard plasters on the back of your shins. Blood will flow to the legs, flowing away from the head, and nasal congestion will decrease.

However, all these procedures cannot be done if you have a temperature above 38 °C. In addition, it is easier to use pharmaceutical products. And although most medications for the common cold do not eliminate the cause of the disease, they make you feel better and prevent the development of complications, such as sinusitis.

Spray or drops?

For the medicine to give the best effect, it must be used correctly. Blow your nose before putting drops into your nose. Then lie on your back, tilt your head back slightly and turn your head. This will allow the drops to penetrate better into the openings of your sinuses. When instilled correctly, there is no sensation of aching in the forehead, and you do not feel the taste of the drops in your mouth.

Nasal sprays are much more convenient than drops - you don’t have to lie down, you just need to spray the spray into your nose by pressing the dispenser. In addition, sprays are difficult to overdose, which means there is less risk of side effects.

It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions and not exceed the dosage and recommended frequency of administration. Even short-acting drugs should not be used more than four times a day. If the dosage is not followed, a paradoxical effect is possible: swelling after using the drugs becomes more pronounced.

When used, side effects may occur: burning and tingling sensation in the nose, dry nasal mucosa, palpitations, heart rhythm disturbances, increased blood pressure, headache.

Pregnant and lactating women can use vasoconstrictors only with the consent of a doctor. Many of the drugs in this group are contraindicated for them.

For children, there are special pediatric forms of vasoconstrictor drugs. Their active ingredient is often phenylephrine, which is considered the safest for babies. Products intended for adults should not be used by children. But for adults, “children’s” is okay. Sometimes they help just as well, and cause less discomfort and side effects. If the standard pediatric dose does not help you, you can increase it by 2 times, but no more.

Different vasoconstrictor drugs have different durations of action.

There are combination drugs. For example, in the Snoop spray, the vasoconstrictor component is combined with sea water. This allows you to eliminate nasal congestion without irritating the mucous membrane. Another example is “Xymelin Extra”, which, due to its two-component composition, not only eliminates nasal congestion, but also significantly reduces the amount of liquid discharge.

Products based on sea water

Sea water is an effective remedy for the prevention and treatment of runny nose. Preparations based on it are often recommended for use in cases where vasoconstrictor drugs are contraindicated. In terms of strength and speed of action, sea water is inferior to them, but it is completely safe. The most popular drugs in this group are Physiomer, Quix, Aqua Maris, and the Aqualor line of drugs.

Seawater solutions are either isotonic or hypertonic. In isotonic ones, the salt content varies within 0.9%, in hypertonic ones it is higher. For prevention it is better to use isotonic solutions, for treatment - hypertonic. The latter “pull” excess moisture from the cells of the inflamed mucous membrane. Thanks to this, the swelling becomes less pronounced, and nasal breathing is restored. Information about the concentration of salts in a particular product can be obtained from the instructions or from a pharmacist.

There are many options for using sea water - from regular irrigation to thorough rinsing of the nose. Each method has its own nuances, indications and contraindications. Therefore, seawater solutions must be used according to the instructions.

And pay attention to the packaging - the drugs differ in the strength of the jet pressure and the technique of use.

Components of medicinal herbs can be added to seawater-based products. For example, “Aqualor extra forte” additionally contains extracts of aloe vera and Roman chamomile, and “Dolphin” contains extracts of rose hips and licorice. This may enhance the therapeutic effect, however, if you are prone to allergies, it is better to use products without additives.

Preparations with essential oils

The most famous products of this group are “Pinosol” and “Evkasept”. Essential oils have an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect, making nasal breathing a little easier.

These remedies help well in cases where a runny nose persists, “crusts” form in the nose, and dry mucous membranes are bothersome.

Medicines can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but they are contraindicated in children under 2 years of age.

Unlike drugs from other groups, these medications cannot be used for allergic rhinitis. If you have a runny nose due to a cold, but you have a tendency to allergies, products based on essential oils should be used with caution.

Sometimes essential oils are added to vasoconstrictor drugs to enhance the effect. Plant components of mint and eucalyptus are, for example, in the Otrivin Menthol and Nazol Advance sprays.

  • headaches and a feeling of heaviness in the sinuses appeared;
  • a runny nose is accompanied by a temperature above 38 °C;

Pinosol is a series of drugs to relieve swelling of the nasal mucosa. The drugs also prevent the development of putrefactive microflora and relieve inflammation. The basis of Pinosol is herbal ingredients.

Release forms

The liquid form of the drug is a transparent, yellowish-greenish substance. The ointment and cream are greenish-blue in color. All preparations emit a specific smell of mint and eucalyptus.

CONSISTENCY: the contents are a transparent oily liquid of a delicate blue color with a characteristic pine-menthol aroma.

For adults, on the 1st day, the drug is instilled 1-2 drops into each nasal passage with an interval of 1-2 hours. On subsequent days - 1-2 drops into each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

For children, instill 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day or use a cotton swab.

It is possible to use the drug in the form of inhalations, which should be carried out using an inhaler. To do this, 2 ml (50 drops) are instilled into the inhaler; frequency of application: times/day.

We've sorted out the instructions, let's move on to use. Before using the drug, it is advisable to clear the sinuses, simply blow your nose thoroughly. For a better effect of the drops, you can rinse your nose with saline or furatsilin solution to remove mucus, then drip your nose according to the recommended dosage, tilting your head back a little for better passage of the drops into the nasal cavity.

Within a few seconds after instillation, a refreshing effect similar to menthol may be felt, which is an absolutely normal reaction of the mucous membrane to the action of the essential oils included in the drops.

When I have a runny nose, my mucous membrane always dries out to such an extent that it becomes painful to breathe, crusts appear, my nose itches wildly and I constantly sneeze, spreading my germs around the apartment . In such cases, “Pinosol” works quickly: literally from the first use, oil drops envelop the mucous membrane, moisturizing it, it becomes easier to breathe, within one or two days of treatment the terrible itching in the nose goes away and sneezing stops.

Another feature of “Pinosol”: the drops, entering the throat when instilled, relieve pain when swallowing and soften the throat. The effect, of course, is insignificant and incomparable with special means for treating the throat, but it exists. In comparison, vasoconstrictor drops never gave me such an effect.
