Nazivin for children instructions

Nazivin for children up to 1 year: instructions for use

Nazivin for children up to one year of age is a vasoconstrictor for topical use with a concentration of Oxymetazoline hydrochloride of 0.01%.

Release form

Drops for nasal use in the form of a transparent colorless or slightly yellowish solution, dark glass bottle, pipette cap, cardboard box;

Table of contents:

Compound

Oxymetazoline hydrochloride, 100 mcg

50% benzalkonium chloride solution, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, 1 M sodium hydroxide solution, disodium edetate dihydrate, purified water

Pharmacodynamics

Nazivin 0.01% is a vasoconstrictor, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, intended for topical use in children from birth to one year.

When applied to the inflamed mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, the active component (imidosaline derivative) constricts blood vessels at the site of application, reduces blood flow to the venous sinuses, eliminates swelling of the upper respiratory tract, restores aeration of the paranasal sinuses, and facilitates nasal breathing. The action of the vasoconstrictor component begins 15 minutes after application and continues for 6-8 hours.

When applied topically, oxymetazoline hydrochloride does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause tissue redness and the development of systemic reactions (when used in recommended therapeutic concentrations).

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, the drug, produced in the form of nasal drops, is practically not subject to systemic adsorption; the concentration of the active component in the blood plasma is insignificant. Nazivin is excreted unchanged in feces and urine. The half-life of the drug is 5-8 days.

Indications for use in pediatric practice

  • Acute respiratory diseases accompanied by rhinitis;
  • Allergic rhinitis;
  • Vasomotor rhinitis;
  • Eustacheite;
  • Otitis media;
  • Inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (to restore drainage);
  • Narrowing of dilated vessels of the mucous membrane for diagnostic purposes.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity, individual intolerance to the components of the drug;

From 1 month to 1 year – 1-2 drops in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day. You can also apply the medicinal solution to a cotton swab and wipe the nasal passages with it.

The duration of use of the nasal vasoconstrictor drug is no more than 3-5 days.

Drug interactions

When Nazivin is used together with other vasoconstrictors for topical use, the risk of side effects increases significantly.

The simultaneous use of nasal drops with MAO blockers leads to an increase in blood pressure.

pharmachologic effect

Anticongestive, alpha-adrenomimetic effect.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Pharmacodynamics

Local vasoconstrictor drug. When applied to the inflamed mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, it significantly reduces its swelling and the volume of nasal discharge. Normalizes nasal breathing. Reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa helps restore ventilation of the paranasal sinuses and middle ear spaces, which reduces the likelihood of infectious complications (sinusitis, sinusitis, otitis media). When applied locally intranasally in therapeutic concentrations, it does not cause hyperemia or irritation of the mucous membranes.

When used intranasally, topical oxymetazoline has no systemic effect.

Pharmacokinetics

The active substance begins to act in 1-2 minutes. The duration of action of the drug reaches 12 hours. The half-life of oxymetazoline when applied topically in the nasal cavity is hours. About 2.1% of the dose is evacuated in the urine, 1.1% in feces.

Indications for use

  • colds or infections of the upper respiratory tract of a viral nature, accompanied by a runny nose;
  • sinusitis;
  • rhinitis, regardless of etiology;
  • eustachitis;
  • used before diagnostic procedures in the nasal passages to eliminate swelling;
  • Otitis media

Contraindications

  • angle-closure glaucoma;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • age less than 1 year (for all forms of the drug except Nazivin Sensitive in the form of drops);
  • age less than 6 years (for the drug in the form of a spray with a dosage of 500 mcg/ml).

Side effects

  • Local reactions: sneezing, burning of the nasal mucous membranes, blurred vision in case of accidental contact with the eyes, dry nasal mucous membranes, a feeling of stuffiness (reactive hyperemia) after the effect of using the drug disappears. Long-term continuous use of vasoconstrictors can lead to atrophy of the nasal mucosa, tachyphylaxis, and repeated swelling of the nasal mucosa (rhinitis of drug etiology).
  • Reactions from the circulatory system: increased blood pressure, tachycardia, palpitations.
  • Reactions from nervous activity: dizziness, sleep disturbance, headache, anxiety, insomnia, irritability.
  • Other reactions: exanthema, nausea.

Analogues of the drug Nazivin

Structural analogues of the active substance:

Instructions for use of Nazivin drops and spray for children

Nazivin drops and spray (Nasivin, oxymetazoline) are available in the form of a solution for topical use in concentrations of 0.05%, 0.01%, 0.025%. It is a vasoconstrictor with a decongestant and mild anti-inflammatory effect for the treatment of rhinitis with mucus secretion, inflammation of the mucous membrane and nasal congestion. Nazivin for children is approved from birth, is available in a compact bottle with a pipette cap of 5, 10 ml with a concentration of the active substance of 0.01%, 0.025%, respectively. Nasal spray and drops 0.05% are indicated for children over 6 years of age.

The product has the appearance of a transparent liquid with a yellowish color. It is available in pharmacies without a prescription, but for treating a child under one year of age requires a doctor’s permission.

Nazivin for the treatment of rhinitis

Nazivin drops are a medicine for application to the mucous membrane. The main active component is an adrenergic agonist, which leads to vasoconstriction. At different concentrations, the substance affects alpha-2 and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.

Nazivin for infants and older children relieves nasal congestion, relieves inflammation and reduces tissue swelling, creating conditions for free breathing. The medicine does not have an irritating effect on the nasal mucosa and, if the concentration is maintained, does not lead to side effects, withdrawal syndrome or addiction.

Nazivin for children is approved for use from the first month of life as prescribed by a doctor and in the dosage indicated by him.

Drops and spray

Nazivin Baby 0.01% in the form of a solution for instillation into the nose using a pipette is indicated for newborns and children up to one year.

Other release forms:

  • drops 0.025% - for children from one year old;
  • 0.05% – for children over 6 years old;
  • Sensitive spray – for children from 6 years old.

The medicine in the form of a spray is characterized by precise dosage without the need for a pipette, economical consumption and ease of use. The spray is used for children over 6 years of age according to the instructions.

Nazivin for children (0.025%) is available in a bottle with a convenient pipette cap. Before instilling drops into the child’s nose, make sure that when you press the pipette, only one drop of solution is released. Instillation is carried out in each nostril and one click on the pipette corresponds to one drop.

Nazivin Baby (0.01%) is prescribed by a doctor for newborns and infants up to 1 year. In some cases, the drug is additionally diluted with saline solution.

Compound

The main active component of the drug Nazivin is oxymetazoline.

Auxiliary elements included:

  • sodium hydroxide;
  • sodium dihydrogen phosphate;
  • benzalkonium chloride.

Children's Nazivin up to one year and for older children is an anticongestive drug, a vasoconstrictor with local action.

When applied to the affected mucous membrane, the product eliminates the inflammatory process and tissue swelling. Vasoconstriction inhibits the production of mucus, which helps to restore free breathing in newborns, infants and older children. The use of the product reduces the risk of complications on surrounding tissues, prevents the development of sinusitis, inflammation of the maxillary sinuses and other bacterial infections of the ENT organs.

When applied locally, the drops do not affect the function of internal organs and enter the blood in small quantities, which eliminates complications. The composition of the medicine is safe and does not irritate the mucous membranes. After instillation, the drug begins to act from the first minutes, the result lasts 8-12 hours.

Nazivin drops are also used in the treatment of eye diseases caused by infection, including conjunctivitis.

Pharmacokinetics

The main active component of the drug acts on receptors that are located deep in the mucosa. The substance provokes their contraction, narrowing of blood vessels and reducing their permeability. This leads to the elimination of swelling of the mucous layer and the subsidence of inflammation.

The medicine is absorbed into the mucous membrane and then enters the bloodstream in small quantities. In high concentrations, this leads to arrhythmia and increased blood pressure. In connection with this effect, the use of the medicine is carried out according to a strictly defined dosage for each age group.

The maximum effect of the drug is observed 15 minutes after instillation.

Instructions

Instructions for use Nazivin Baby and Sensitive:

  • applied intranasally, instilled into the nose;
  • delivered by a special pipette;
  • applied according to the dosage indicated by the doctor;
  • 1-2 drops are instilled into each nostril;
  • repeated instillation is carried out at intervals of several hours;
  • The treatment period is determined by the doctor (on average 5 days), depending on the form of the disease.

Nazivin Baby for newborns is prescribed exclusively by a doctor after determining the cause of nasal congestion and accompanying symptoms. The medicine has contraindications, therefore self-medication in children is strictly contraindicated.

The average course of treatment can be from 3 to 7 days, depending on the severity of the disease and its cause. Bacterial rhinitis is difficult to treat; it is supplemented by the use of other medications.

Dosage

The doctor prescribes the following dosage regimens (may change):

  • from a month to a year – 1 drop 2 times (0.01%);
  • from one to six years – 2 drops 3 times (0.025%);
  • from six – 2 drops or 2 injections 3 times a day (spray, drops 0.025% and 0.5%).

The dosage of Nazivin drops for newborns is determined individually and is constantly monitored by the attending physician.

Indications

Nazivin Sensitive drops and spray have the following indications:

  • treatment of pathologies of the upper respiratory tract with accompanying runny nose;
  • vasomotor and allergic rhinitis;
  • inflammation in the paranasal sinuses;
  • swelling, inflammation of the mucous membrane;
  • eustachitis and sinusitis.

The nasal remedy can be prescribed to a child before surgical treatment and during the recovery period after surgery.

Nazivin Baby is used to eliminate the symptoms of a runny nose in a child from birth under the guidance of a doctor. Indications for a newborn are reduced breathing ability as a result of nasal congestion, accumulation of crusts on the mucous membrane and secretion of mucus. The safety of the drug for newborns is due to the low concentration of the main active ingredient (0.01%).

Contraindications

Each dosage form of Nazivin has the following contraindications:

  • atrophic processes of the nasal mucosa;
  • angle-closure glaucoma;
  • age up to 6 years (regarding drops and spray 0.05%);
  • allergies and hypersensitivity to certain substances of the drug.

A prerequisite for treatment is compliance with the specified dosage for each age group. Additional permission from a physician is required before using drops concomitantly with medications that increase blood pressure. Drops should be used with caution for cardiovascular and endocrine diseases in children.

To prevent unwanted side reactions, it is recommended to limit the time of use of drops to 7 days (maximum).

Adverse reactions

Failure to comply with the dosage and instructions of the attending physician may lead to side effects. Undesirable local reactions such as dry nose, irritation and burning occur more often. Exceeding the dosage leads to the opposite effect, causing even greater accumulation of mucus. It is extremely rare that adverse reactions affect the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system and cardiovascular system.

Adverse reactions of using children's drops:

  • CNS – apathy, irritability, poor sleep;
  • Gastrointestinal tract - nausea;
  • CVS – bradycardia, increased blood pressure.

Uncontrolled long-term treatment can lead to severe swelling of the mucous membrane, atrophic processes and tachyphylaxis. Drug-induced rhinitis develops.

Overdose

An overdose of oxymetazoline occurs when a large amount of the substance enters the gastrointestinal tract and bloodstream. This can happen when a young child has access to the drops and accidentally drinks them. Parents are strongly advised to keep any medications out of the child's reach.

When applying drops topically according to the instructions, overdose is excluded. But there is a risk when using drugs with a high concentration of the active ingredient to treat young children.

Manifestations of severe overdose:

  • increased blood pressure;
  • arrhythmia, difficulty breathing;
  • constriction of the pupils;
  • temperature rise to subfebrile;
  • breathing difficulties due to edema;
  • mental and nervous disorders;
  • drowsiness and decreased activity.

When a life-threatening amount of a substance enters the blood, a sharp decrease in body temperature, respiratory depression, and a decrease in heart rate are observed. This may result in respiratory arrest and the development of coma.

Treatment: taking activated carbon and washing the child’s stomach.

special instructions

Long-term treatment with drugs based on oxymetazoline in high concentrations affects the condition of the nervous system, heart and respiratory organs. For chronic inflammation of the maxillary sinuses and constant nasal congestion, it is highly not recommended to use one drug with a similar base. It will be more effective to drip drugs from different groups into the nose (this is also due to the risk of adverse reactions when combining analogues).

If regular treatment of a runny nose is necessary, it is recommended to combine anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, moisturizing, analgesic and decongestant agents. Nazivin drips are effective for copious mucus secretion and nasal congestion. When there is increased dryness of the mucous membrane, accumulation of crusts and severe irritation, treatment is recommended with moisturizing preparations with an anti-inflammatory effect.

The need for a combination of various drugs is also due to a decrease in the activity of oxymetazoline with its long-term use.

Interaction

Children's Nazivin up to 1 year old, from one year old and spray for children over 6 years old are not prescribed with other vasoconstrictors. The combination of drugs from the same group increases the concentration of the active substance, which already contradicts the indicated safe dosage for different ages.

The substance oxymetazoline enhances the effect of topical anesthetic components.

The combination of Nazivin drops with MAO inhibitors and tetracyclic antidepressants increases blood pressure and tachycardia.

Price and analogues

Average cost of children's drops and spray Nazivin:

  • drops 0.05% – 160 rubles;
  • 0.025% – 170 rubles;
  • 0.01% – 180 rubles (Sensitive – 210 rubles);
  • spray – 200 rubles.

Cheap analogues are Nesolin, Sialor Rino, their cost varies from 90 to 110 rubles. The price of other drugs starts from 115 rubles and above.

Among the well-known analogs of the drug are Nazol Advance, Noxprey and Fazin drops (different active ingredients, but the same effect). Nazivin and Nazol drops cope better with nasal congestion in the smallest children. Medicines in spray form are more suitable for older children.

Nazivin drops for children quickly and permanently relieve the problem of nasal congestion even in the youngest. Before treatment, you should definitely consult a pediatrician to identify the cause of rhinitis. The child may require additional examination and complex treatment.

Instructions for use of the drug Nazivin

Very often in the modern situation, patients and their relatives try to find information that will reveal in understandable human language all the pressing issues regarding a particular drug, and objectively and comprehensively highlight its positive and negative qualities. Such information will help protect a person from possible unwanted errors regarding treatment, contraindications and side effects of popular drugs - these include drugs such as Nazivin for children and its dosage forms based on it.

How to use it correctly in the treatment of children, whether there is a suitable form of the drug for the smallest and whether Nazivin is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding - these are important topics that interest many parents whose children the doctor has prescribed this drug.

Action of children's Nazivin

In the case when a doctor prescribes Nazivin for children, the instructions for use contain all the information regarding the pharmacological action of this drug and the mode of use.

Nazivin is an alpha adrenergic agonist - a drug for local use, which belongs to imidazole derivatives, which has a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect. In low concentrations it has an alpha 2-adrenomimetic effect, in high concentrations it also acts on a1-adrenergic receptors.

The drug constricts blood vessels, thereby reducing swelling of the mucous membranes of the nose and upper respiratory tract. When used intranasally, locally, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, and if the recommendations for use are followed, it does not have side effects on the body and is not addictive.

If Nazivin is prescribed, the instructions for use list the following main indications:

  • acute rhinitis (including allergic);
  • vasomotor rhinitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • eustachitis;
  • otitis media.

Nazivin drops for children contain the active substance – oxymetazoline – 0.25 mg. The composition also contains the following auxiliary components: 50% solution of non-alkonium chloride, purified water, and sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate.

The drug Nazivin for children is produced in special darkened glass bottles. For more convenient use, the cap is equipped with a pipette.

The drug Nazivin for children is recommended for children from one to six years old.

Approximately 1-2 drops should be instilled into each nostril, but not more than 3 times a day.

It is advisable to use it for no more than 5 days; further use is possible only after consulting a specialist.

Features of the use of Nazivin in young children

If there is a need to use Nazivin for infants, the instructions recommend using this drug only as directed by a pediatrician or otolaryngologist.

Newborn babies have limited ability to breathe through their mouth. As a result of increased swelling of the nasopharynx, the child begins to eat poorly and becomes restless. If there is an acute runny nose (rhinitis), a pediatrician may suggest a milder form of the drug - Nazivin Baby. Nazivin for children is not recommended for children under 1 year of age. For newborn children, the concentration of the active substance is too high, so absorption of the drug through the mucous membrane can cause poisoning.

Nazivin Baby is primarily safe because the active substance that is part of the medication has a fairly low concentration, but this in no way reduces its effectiveness in combating difficulty in nasal breathing.

This form of the drug Nazivin contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride at a concentration of 0.01 mg, as well as other auxiliary components.

Prescription regimen

Method of use of the dosage form Nazivin Baby:

The recommended dosage of Nazivin for infants is one drop in each nasal passage, but no more than three times a day.

Nazivin for infants is not recommended for use for more than 3-5 days; this is necessary to avoid atrophy of the nasal mucosa.

For more convenient use, the cap is equipped with a pipette.

Contraindications and side effects

The instructions for the drug Nazivin contain all the information about contraindications and side effects - Nazivin for children is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • For children with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug,
  • For children suffering from atrophic rhinitis,
  • Children taking medications with MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase)
  • Children suffering from kidney disease, heart disease, as well as heart or kidney failure,
