We are talking about sea buckthorn oil, which is considered a truly universal remedy. Is it possible to use sea buckthorn oil for children? Let’s look at it in more detail in this article.
Compound
Sea buckthorn grows on the Eurasian continent, more often found in its European part, and looks like a shrub or low tree. Ripe fruits are bright yellow or orange in color, very sour with a tart taste. Sea buckthorn berries are rich in vitamins and microelements; they contain a lot of:
- Magnesium.
- Potassium.
- Tocopherol (vitamin E).
- Ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
- Retinol (vitamin A).
- Gland.
- Phytosterol.
- Vitamins B2, B6, B12.
- Chlorophylls.
- Phospholipids.
- Vitamin K
- Sterols.
- Carotenoids, etc.
As for polyunsaturated fatty acids, they are contained in sea buckthorn oil in the following proportions:
- 22% - palmitoleic (Omega 7). Strong antioxidant, promotes the production of lycopene, collagen, elastin.
- 10–13% - oleic (Omega 9). It has a positive effect on blood vessels and helps improve the body's sensitivity to insulin.
- 15–16% - linolenic (Omega 6).
- 4–6% - alphalinolenic (Omega 3).
Polyunsaturated acids are necessary for the body to function normally. A deficiency of these acids disrupts the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, provokes the appearance of atherosclerotic plaques and the development of diabetes mellitus. Alphalinolenic acid (Omega 3) protects lipids in cell membranes from oxidation, and also improves hematopoiesis, maintains brain activity at the proper level and visual acuity. As you can see, sea buckthorn is simply a storehouse of healthy vitamins and microelements.
Medicinal properties
Oil obtained from sea buckthorn has the following properties:
- Reduces cholesterol in the blood.
- Heals wounds quickly.
- Has high biological activity.
- Effectively eliminates pathogenic microflora in the intestines.
- Strengthens the walls of blood vessels.
- Relieves pain.
- Improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system.
- Has a mild laxative effect.
- Helps stabilize metabolic processes.
- Restores the epidermis, eliminates increased pigmentation of the skin.
- Stimulates the functioning of the thyroid and pancreas.
- Strengthens the body's natural defenses.
- Prevents the formation of blood clots.
- Protects skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.
- Eliminates dandruff and promotes hair growth.
In addition to the oil solution, sea buckthorn is used in medicine in the form of rectal suppositories and gelatin capsules. You can eat the berries either raw, grated with sugar, or in the form of jam or juice. The fruits of the bush can be frozen and used to prepare various drinks.
Cooking at home
Store-bought oil is not always of good quality. If you want to get a 100% natural and healthy product, you can prepare sea buckthorn oil at home yourself. To do this you need:
- Rinse the ripe berries thoroughly and dry.
- Squeeze out the juice; for these purposes, you can use a meat grinder or mortar, and then strain the resulting pulp.
- Collect the cake, spread it on a baking sheet and dry it, but not in the open sun. Drying in the oven at 50 degrees is allowed, no more. Be sure to ensure that mold does not appear.
- Grind the dry cake, this is best done with a coffee grinder.
- Heat olive oil. The ideal temperature is 45 degrees.
- Mix the prepared ingredients in a glass container. At the same time, make sure that the oil covers the sea buckthorn cake by at least 3 centimeters.
- Wrap the transparent container with something thick, such as fabric or foil.
- Place the composition in a dark place for 7 days. It is advisable that the temperature be at room temperature. The mixture should be shaken thoroughly every day.
- After a week, strain the resulting product and place it in a small glass container for ease of use.
Natural sea buckthorn oil should be stored in the refrigerator.
Sea buckthorn oil for infants
The use of medicines made from sea buckthorn berries for children under one year of age is permitted only externally. Dermatitis, diaper rash and other skin rashes can be eliminated by applying oil directly to the affected area. In addition, children can have a restorative massage using a sea buckthorn product.
Sometimes there is a need to use rectal suppositories. Such sea buckthorn-based products are used for infants with constipation. The oil envelops the anus and protects the delicate skin from injury from hard feces, and also improves intestinal motility.
Use for children aged one year and older
Sea buckthorn oil for children after one year of age is used both topically and internally. Depending on the problem, on the recommendation of the pediatrician, the product can be used:
- For application to the child’s skin for burns, cuts, and dermatitis.
- In case of intestinal dysfunction, it is recommended to use suppositories with sea buckthorn oil.
- Sea buckthorn oil can also be used to lubricate diaper rash in newborns by applying the product directly to the problem area several times a day.
- To treat colds and otitis, the oil should be instilled into the nose and ears.
- For sore throat, stomatitis, inflamed tonsils and adenoids. Treatment is carried out by lubricating the mouth.
When children (over 3 years old) use sea buckthorn oil internally, they can eliminate stomach problems and improve weak immunity. This product is not recommended for use internally by babies under one year of age, as it has the ability to cause an allergic reaction and can disrupt the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
Sea buckthorn is often included in vitamin preparations, so it can be taken by children with a weakened immune system, for example, Vitamishki-immuno and Pomogusha.
Treating a child with sea buckthorn oil requires a special approach. Let's take a closer look at what diseases it is used for and how it is used.
Burns, skin injuries
Sea buckthorn oil is applied to children in case of damage to the skin, on large or long-term non-healing areas. First, the affected area of the skin should be washed with any antiseptic, for example, furatsilin solution. Soak a piece of gauze, folded several times, in oil and apply to the wound. Secure with a bandage or adhesive tape. The dressing should be changed every day.
Sea buckthorn is used to produce special products for treating burns in both children and adults. For example, aerosols - Hypozol and Olazol or a film impregnated with sea buckthorn oil - Oblekol.
Gingivitis and stomatitis
To eliminate these diseases, it is necessary to lubricate the oral cavity every day (3-4 times). It is better to use the oil after meals. It is allowed to treat stomatitis with sea buckthorn in children from birth. Before use, be sure to conduct a sensitivity test. To do this, lubricate the skin on the inside of the elbow and wait a day. The absence of redness indicates that the child is not sensitive to the product.
Treatment of the respiratory system and nasopharynx
Sea buckthorn fruits have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it is advisable to use them for a runny nose. This product prevents excessive dryness in the nasal cavity and prevents the formation of crusts on the mucous membrane.
In the case of atrophic rhinitis, this product restores damaged mucosa. To do this, a cotton wool soaked in oil must be placed in the nasal passages for half an hour several times a day. For a better therapeutic effect, you can use a mixture of vegetable oils, for example, add sunflower or olive oil to sea buckthorn.
To make a runny nose go away faster, it is recommended to drip an oil composition from sea buckthorn into each nasal turbinate 3 times a day. 2 drops at a time are enough for a runny nose to go away within a week. The maximum course is 10 days. To prevent colds or in its initial stages, you need to put one drop in your nose every day for a week.
The use of sea buckthorn oil allows you to quickly restore the surface of the affected tonsils, relieve pain, and reduce the inflammatory process. After removal of tonsils in children, the oil composition can quickly restore the injured surface. It is better to carry out the procedure after eating.
When eliminating bronchitis and sinusitis, sea buckthorn oil for children (from one year old) is recommended to be used in the form of inhalations. To do this, drop a few drops of the product into hot water and breathe for about 15 minutes. Those who use a nebulizer should know that it is not advisable to put an oily product into it; it is better to do inhalation in a proven way, using a kettle.
Consider all the nuances before using sea buckthorn to treat children, so as not to accidentally harm the baby.
Contraindications
Despite the almost magical properties of sea buckthorn, there are times when it is not recommended to use it to treat children:
- High sensitivity to oil components.
- Pathological processes or temporary disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (for internal use).
- Diseases of the liver, kidneys, pancreas and gall bladder.
Sea buckthorn oil should be used only on the recommendation of your doctor. In this case, it is necessary to strictly follow the advice of a specialist, not to violate the dosage and regimen of use of the product for the baby.

Sea buckthorn oil for children Sea buckthorn
Sea buckthorn
The Latin name of sea buckthorn translates as shiny horse. Even in ancient times, people noticed that the hair of horses that ate sea buckthorn fruits became silky and shiny. Is sea buckthorn and sea buckthorn oil good for children?
Is sea buckthorn beneficial for children?
- Sea buckthorn contains carotenoids and vitamin A, so when consumed internally, it has a positive effect on the growth of children, and also accelerates the growth of hair and nails, making them stronger and shiny.
- Sea buckthorn contains phytosterols that reduce the concentration of cholesterol in the blood.
- Sea buckthorn is called the orange queen of health, for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, immunostimulating and restorative properties.
- It contains the following beneficial unsaturated fatty acids: omega3, omega6, omega7 and omega9.
- Sea buckthorn contains a large amount of ascorbic acid - up to 200 mg per 100 g of fresh fruit.
- It contains a lot of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant.
- Sea buckthorn contains a lot of B vitamins, potassium and magnesium, and contains iron.
Sea buckthorn can be eaten fresh, you can freeze it for the winter, and then make juices and cocktails from it.
Sea buckthorn and drinks made from it can be introduced into baby food no earlier than 3 years of age due to its high allergenicity. Sea buckthorn juice, in addition, is very sour, so for children it is better to dilute it and add a little honey or sugar to it.
Sea buckthorn berries and juice from them are used in folk medicine.
But the most popular, as a medicine and as a cosmetic product, is sea buckthorn oil. It is used internally, dripped into the nose, applied to the skin and mucous membranes, and used in the form of suppositories.
Sea buckthorn oil for children
Sea buckthorn berries contain about 8% oil. It is the oil from sea buckthorn berries that is rich in carotenoids and has an orange color.
Sea buckthorn seeds contain up to 12% oil. Sea buckthorn seed oil is colorless, it does not contain carotenoids, but contains a large amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids: omega3, omega6, omega7 and omega9.
Sea buckthorn oil is obtained by extracting the oil of sea buckthorn seeds and fruits using vegetable oil, most often sunflower. When obtaining sea buckthorn oil, which is sold in pharmacies, sunflower oil is used for extraction. People now consider it more useful to use olive oil to obtain sea buckthorn. The composition of sea buckthorn oil depends on the extraction method used to obtain it.
Sea buckthorn oil for children at home
You can make sea buckthorn oil for children yourself.
- First you need to select ripe sea buckthorn berries, wash them, and squeeze the juice using a juicer.
- Spread the cake on a sheet or tray and dry it in the air or in the oven at 60 degrees with the door open.
- Then grind the dried cake in a coffee grinder or blender. This is necessary to crush the sea buckthorn seeds, this will make it easier to extract the oil from them.
- Then pour the crushed cake with slightly warmed unrefined vegetable oil and put it in a dark, warm place for 7 days. Mix the cake and oil daily.
- After 7 days, filter the oil through cheesecloth, pour into a glass jar or bottle, preferably dark glass, and store in the refrigerator for up to six months. If stored for a longer period of time, the oil goes rancid.

Sea buckthorn juice can be frozen, the frozen juice can be cut into cubes and used in winter to make healthy drinks or simply added to tea.
Compound
Sea buckthorn oil contains
- Carotenoids.
- Tocopherols.
- Vitamin K
- Sterols.
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids.
- Phospholipids.
- Chlorophyll compounds.
- Flavonoids.
- Oil contains practically no fiber, so it is deprived of B vitamins
When producing sea buckthorn oil by extraction, the oil is heated to 80 degrees and some of the vitamins are destroyed, this applies to ascorbic acid, tocopherols, but even after this, sea buckthorn oil contains ten times more vitamin C (45 mg per 100 g of oil) than lemon (4.5 mg per 100 g ).
But if the oil is obtained by cold pressing, then the vitamins in it are completely preserved and there are even more of them in such oil.
Sea buckthorn oil is valued for its high content of carotenoids and fat-soluble vitamins A, E, K. Both carotenoids and fat-soluble vitamins from sea buckthorn oil are well absorbed by the body, much easier than when consuming sea buckthorn or sea buckthorn juice. Because To absorb these vitamins you need the presence of fats in food.
- Up to 4-6% alphalinolenic acid (omega 3) is quite a lot; sunflower, olive, corn and butter oils are inferior to sea buckthorn oil in terms of the content of this acid.
- 15-16% linoleic acid (omega 6) - omega3/omega6 ratio = 1/3-1/4 is considered favorable.
- 10-13% oleic acid (omega 9) - strengthens the vascular wall, increases tissue sensitivity to insulin.
- up to 22% palmitoleic acid omega 7, which stimulates the production of the hormone lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. Omega 7 protects liver cells from damage. It has a regenerating effect especially on mature skin, enhances the synthesis of collagen and elastin. Strengthen the immune system.

On the skin
Sea buckthorn oil for children can be applied to the skin for burns, large superficial wounds, difficult-to-heal wounds and bedsores (after rejection of necrotic masses).
The surface of the wound is first treated with a disinfectant solution: furacillin (1 tablet per 100 ml), 5% solution of potassium permanganate, or others. Then a gauze cloth with 4-6 layers of gauze is moistened with sea buckthorn oil and applied to the surface of the wound. The napkin is secured with a bandage and changed daily.
For minor skin damage, as well as jammed or cracked lips, to treat diaper rash in infants, sea buckthorn oil is simply applied to the site of the injury 1-2 times a day.
Oblekol
Today, a ready-made film impregnated with sea buckthorn oil (Oblekol) has appeared. The wound is disinfected, then the Oblekol film is dipped into a physiological solution for a few seconds, a film with sea buckthorn oil is glued to the wound and secured with a bandage. The dressing is changed once every 3 days. Oblecol is not used in case of profuse purulent discharge from the wound.
There are also Olazol and Hyposol aerosols with sea buckthorn oil, which are applied to the wound surface after pre-treatment with the same disinfectants.
On mucous membranes
For stomatitis and gingivitis
Used for stomatitis and gingivitis. Popular for the treatment of stomatitis in children. If the entire oral cavity is affected, sea buckthorn oil is applied evenly to the entire oral mucosa after meals 3-4 times a day. This procedure can be performed on children from birth. But first it is advisable to conduct an allergy test. Apply a drop of oil to the inner surface of the forearm and observe for a day. If the skin is not red, you can use sea buckthorn oil to treat your child.
If there is post-traumatic damage to the mucous membrane or single ulcers due to stomatitis, you can moisten a cotton swab with sea buckthorn oil and apply it to the desired location. But such applications are used in children over 5 years old.
With a runny nose
Sea buckthorn oil is dripped into the nose of children in order to prevent drying out of mucus in the nose and the formation of dry crusts, in case of prolonged and atrophic rhinitis to restore the mucous membrane. We must not forget that it also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Sea buckthorn oil is dripped into the nose of children, 2 drops 3 times a day for 3-10 days. Used in children from 1 year.
For atrophic rhinitis, turundas with sea buckthorn oil are placed in the nose for 2-3 times a day.
For pharyngitis and sore throats
It is recommended to lubricate children's tonsils 2-3 times a day after meals. Pain, swelling and inflammation are reduced, and the process of restoration of the mucous membrane is faster.
In gynecology
In gynecology, for colpitis, cervicitis and cervical erosion, tampons soaked in sea buckthorn oil are used. The tampon is inserted overnight. They take it out in the morning. The next evening the procedure is repeated. Course duration is 7-10 days.
For vulvovaginitis, Hypozol is also changed; it is simply sprayed onto the inflamed vaginal mucosa.
For hemorrhoids and rectal fissures
Use tampons or compresses with sea buckthorn oil on the desired area. They are left overnight and removed in the morning. The procedure is repeated 7-10 times.
Rectally
For hemorrhoids, rectal fissures, as well as proctitis and paraproctitis, suppositories with sea buckthorn oil and rectal capsules are used.
Children under 6 years old: 1 suppository or capsule (0.5 g) - 1 r/day, from 6 to 12 years old: 1-2 suppositories per day, from 14 years and older: 1 suppository 2 r/day. The duration of treatment is from 2 to 6 weeks.
Internal use
Sea buckthorn oil is used for children for gastritis and stomach ulcers.
It enters the gastric mucosa, is evenly distributed throughout it and first has a local regenerating (restoring the mucous membrane) effect. And only then is it absorbed and has a systemic effect on the body.
Sea buckthorn oil is taken 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. Duration of treatment days.
As a general strengthening and immunostimulating agent, as well as for the prevention of atherosclerosis, sea buckthorn oil is taken 2.5 ml (½ teaspoon) 1 time per day.
There are also gelatin capsules for oral administration containing 300 mg of sea buckthorn oil. 8 capsules correspond to 5 ml of sea buckthorn oil. To treat ulcers and gastritis, you need 8 capsules 2-3 times a day, as a general tonic, 4 capsules 1 time a day.
Contraindications to taking sea buckthorn oil internally are diseases of the duodenum, cholecystitis, cholangitis, pancreatitis, gallstone disease.
Sea buckthorn oil for children orally
Age restrictions
While there are no age restrictions for external use of sea buckthorn oil, there are for oral use. Children under 12 years of age are a contraindication for taking sea buckthorn oil orally. This is despite the fact that sea buckthorn oil is allowed for pregnant women and during lactation, i.e. it does not have any harmful effects on the body of the child or fetus.
The age restriction is due to the fact that sea buckthorn oil contains a very large amount of carotenoids and vitamin E.
5 ml of sea buckthorn oil contains 5.5 mg of vitamin E, which is 78% of the daily requirement of a child from 3 to 7 years old and 55% of the daily requirement of a child from 7 to 12 years old.
5 ml of sea buckthorn oil contains 9 mg of carotenoids; in terms of retinol equivalent, this is IU, which is close to the daily requirement for vitamin A of an adult and exceeds the daily requirement of a child. Although carotenoids, unlike retinol (vitamin A), are non-toxic and there is no overdose. But, nevertheless, regular excess consumption of foods rich in carotene leads to the deposition of carotene in the reserve and carotene jaundice.
According to the instructions, it is recommended that children take sea buckthorn oil on an empty stomach 30 minutes before meals. This intake of sea buckthorn oil can cause digestive disorders in children with an immature digestive system.
To strengthen the immune system
Meanwhile, to strengthen the immune system, and this is precisely why many mothers seek to use sea buckthorn oil for children, according to the instructions, 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) of sea buckthorn oil per day is enough, this amount of oil will not lead to an overdose of vitamins if taken regularly. children over 3 years old.
To strengthen the immune system, you do not need to take the oil on an empty stomach; you can add ½ teaspoon of sea buckthorn oil to a salad or ready-made vegetable dish just 1 time per day. (Just don’t heat or boil food together with oil, as this will cause it to lose its beneficial properties). In this way, sea buckthorn oil can be consumed by children from 3 years of age. For this use, homemade sea buckthorn oil, rather than pharmaceutical oil, is more suitable, but this is a matter of taste. The immunostimulating effect will be noticeable about a month after starting daily intake of the oil. With this use, sea buckthorn oil can no longer be considered a medicine, it becomes a seasoning for food, and it will not have a therapeutic effect on stomach ulcers or inflamed mucous membranes due to gastritis, but it will not cause side effects or digestive disorders.
It’s better not to give sea buckthorn oil to your child constantly, year-round, but to do it in courses of 1 month, 2 times a year. Or replace vegetable oil with sea buckthorn oil in salad not every day, but 1-2 times a week.

I also want to try giving it to my daughter for immunity!
Thanks for the useful material. Sea buckthorn oil is truly a storehouse of properties and vitamins. My mom always has it at home just in case. Wounds and scratches heal well. Also in case of burns, the first remedy. I use different ones for masks. I recently read that sea buckthorn trees always grow in pairs (a boy and a girl) and nothing else. One cannot live without the other.

Sea buckthorn is often used in folk medicine, in the preparation of recipes for the treatment of various diseases, but it can cause allergies, so before using a recipe with sea buckthorn, you should check for an allergic reaction.

Sea buckthorn oil in capsules
Indications for use

For diseases of the oral cavity, lubricate the throat and gums with oil using a cotton swab dipped in oil. Sea buckthorn oil is often used for various gynecological diseases, in the form of tampons. The oil helps cure colpitis and cervical erosion. Prescribed orally for peptic ulcers of the stomach and duodenum.
Side effects and contraindications
Using sea buckthorn oil for children
If an allergy test is done, and the mother is calm that the oil will not harm the child, then it can be an excellent help in curing many diseases.
Sea buckthorn oil can be used as a bandage on affected skin after burns. Difficult-to-heal surfaces are quickly restored if, after disinfecting the surface with potassium permanganate and furatsilin, a gauze bandage generously soaked in oil is applied. Such dressings should be done every day until the wound is completely healed. Sea buckthorn oil can be applied to open and weeping wounds. It is often used to treat bedsores in bedridden patients.
Some mothers rub oil on irritated areas of the skin during diaper rash in very young infants. This is quite dangerous, and you need to know the expected risks and benefits. Used to lubricate chapped lips in a child. Herpes on the lips of children is also treated. We can also cure diathesis in children with oil.
Sea buckthorn oil is recommended for the treatment of oral diseases – stomatitis in children and gingivitis. Using a cotton swab or ear stick, the oil is applied to the inner mucous surface of the mouth. This procedure is best done after eating and brushing your teeth.
Sea buckthorn oil should be used with caution when you have a runny nose. If there is excessive discharge from the nose, oil is not used so as not to clog the channels with excess mucus and fat. Only lubricate dry areas of the skin to prevent dry nasal passages and the appearance of microcracks. The oil relieves inflammation, makes breathing easier and kills germs. The oil helps the throat during sore throats and colds.
Side effects and contraindications in children
While external use is permitted for children over 1 year of age, oral use is only indicated for children over 12 years of age.
It is not uncommon for oil to provoke irritation of the mucous membrane, severe abdominal pain with indigestion, and a severe allergic reaction, even suffocation. You should take this seriously and choose a different medicine and treatment method.
Oil can also cause hypervitaminosis in a child’s body due to an excessive amount of vitamin in the oil. Excessive amounts of vitamins are just as harmful to a child’s body as their deficiency. With large doses, for example, carotene, jaundice develops in children.

What do we do when a child gets sick? Of course, we turn to the doctor for help, he prescribes expensive drugs from the pharmacy, which of course help, but not always. Then the next time the baby catches a cold again, we doubt the achievements of modern pharmaceuticals and strive to switch to more expensive medications, or, on the contrary, we abandon most of them and switch to traditional methods of getting rid of ailments.
One of the natural elements that helps fight a number of childhood ailments is sea buckthorn, or rather the oil from its fruits.
What are the benefits of sea buckthorn oil?
It is no less beneficial than the berries of the plant themselves, from which sea buckthorn oil is obtained. The substance contains all the beneficial microelements found in the plant. There is more vitamin C in the fruits of the plant than in citrus fruits, and carotene is contained there in enormous concentration.
Nursing mothers and pregnant women benefit from drinking sea buckthorn juice as it is rich in folic acid, magnesium and iron.
Sea buckthorn fights the following diseases:
- colds;
- ulcer;
- gastritis;
- it can strengthen the walls of blood vessels;
- benefit vision.
Making sea buckthorn oil at home.
It helps in treating the throat. This medicine can be bought at a pharmacy or made independently.
Preparation. To begin with, the berries are collected and the juice is squeezed out of them (you can use it immediately, drinking it or adding it to tea, it will be an excellent means of preventing colds). Sea buckthorn pulp should be dried, crushed and poured with olive oil, proportions 1 to 1.5.
This mixture is infused for three weeks in a dark place at room temperature, after which it is filtered, while the olive oil acquires a bright orange color and absorbs all the benefits of sea buckthorn, thereby becoming a valuable medicine from traditional medicine.
Application of sea buckthorn oil
Thanks to its beneficial properties, sea buckthorn helps strengthen the immune system, fight viral diseases, and accelerates the process of recuperation after illness.
Sea buckthorn oil is a good remedy for treating burns, healing wounds, rashes and other skin damage. Simply apply oil to the affected skin surface.
Sea buckthorn oil is used in different ways for young children. For infants, diaper rash is removed or compresses are applied to irritated skin. For stomatitis, sterile sea buckthorn oil is used to lubricate the oral mucosa; this procedure also helps to reduce itching in the baby when teething.
Treatment of the throat with sea buckthorn oil occurs due to the ability of sea buckthorn to reduce inflammation. To treat, gargle with heated sea buckthorn oil. For one procedure, a tablespoon of the product is enough.
If you are going to use the procedure for a child who does not know how to gargle independently, then do the following: wrap the little finger with gauze (bandage), dip it in sea buckthorn oil and lubricate the root of the child’s tongue.
Contraindications to treatment with sea buckthorn oil
Undoubtedly, sea buckthorn is a very useful plant, but it can harm people with certain diseases. For example, sea buckthorn oil is contraindicated for internal use if you have the following problems:
- pain in the pancreas;
- cholecystitis;
- Loose stools often bother me.
But when treating stomach ulcers, oil is prescribed to patients according to the scheme. But at the same time, fresh berries and sea buckthorn juice are categorically not recommended. Since a large amount of organic acids can sharply increase the secretion of gastric juice. For the same reason of acidity, sea buckthorn fruits are contraindicated for urolithiasis and gastritis.
When using sea buckthorn oil to treat small children, be careful, since the drug can cause a very strong allergic reaction, and if it enters the esophagus it can cause loose stools in young children.
In any case, when using folk remedies to treat various diseases, consult a doctor first to prevent serious consequences.

The use of sea buckthorn oil in the treatment of children
It is perhaps difficult to imagine a more useful product than sea buckthorn oil. It contains a huge amount of vitamins and has many beneficial effects. For adults, the range of uses of such a substance is very wide. But parents often have doubts about the use of sea buckthorn for children. In this article, we will try to figure out together when and how to give sea buckthorn oil to children and what ailments can be treated with it.
Beneficial features
Their sea buckthorn oil is obtained either by cold pressing or by extraction; when the raw material is heated to a certain temperature using vegetable oil, the well-known sea buckthorn product is obtained with a specific odor and an easily recognizable delicate orange color. The amazing healing properties are due to a huge number of useful substances:
- Carotenoids;
- Sterols;
- Tocopherols;
- Vitamins E, A, K and others, except for B vitamins, which are not available due to the lack of fiber in the berries of the plant;
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids;
- Flavonoids.
And now a video release about the beneficial properties and method of using sea buckthorn oil.
The medicine is extracted from various raw materials - from sea buckthorn berries and from its seeds. In the first case, a substance rich in carotenoids is obtained, which is why it is colored rich orange. In the second case, the oil turns out transparent and colorless. It is rich in fatty acids. Most often, these two oils are mixed together; this sea buckthorn duet provides maximum benefits for the human body.
In terms of the amount of valuable substances, sea buckthorn is a real record holder; it has left the majority of vegetables, fruits and berries far behind.
Use for treatment
Sea buckthorn has long been used to treat a variety of conditions. It helps to quickly and effectively solve many health problems:
- Helps remove toxins.
- Excellent healing of wounds, abrasions, burns, damage to mucous membranes.
- Has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, regenerating effect.
- Helps with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Strengthens the body's immune defense.
- Accelerates hair growth.
- Reduces cholesterol and blood sugar.
- Used as an excellent cosmetic product for skin problems.
- Helps cope with respiratory and hearing diseases.
Sea buckthorn oil can be given to children, provided that the baby does not have an allergic reaction to this product. It is used in a wide variety of ways:
- Externally. For atopic dermatitis, for prickly heat and diaper rash in babies, for skin irritation caused by allergies, chemical burns, burns with boiling water, abrasions, calluses, etc.
- Nasal and local. For stomatitis, sea buckthorn oil is used to treat wounds and ulcers in the child’s mouth. When you have a runny nose, this product is dropped into the nose to avoid drying out the mucous membrane. For a sore throat, the larynx is lubricated with a useful substance; the oil disinfects, softens and relieves pain quite quickly. For adenoids, the tonsils are subject to treatment. When coughing, especially when it is dry and unproductive, sea buckthorn oil helps relieve the child’s condition and stimulates the discharge of sputum.
- Inside. Sea buckthorn oil can and should be drunk for stomach diseases and constipation. It is often given to weak and regularly ill children to increase and strengthen the immune system.
- Candles. Rectal suppositories with sea buckthorn oil are used for intestinal diseases, as well as as part of complex therapy for many ailments as a natural and very effective pain reliever.
Where to buy and how to make?
Making an oily substance from sea buckthorn yourself is not as easy as it seems. But in any pharmacy in any city in all regions of the country there is a ready-to-use product available for sale, packaged in bottles. It is included in many baby care products, including ointments and creams, soaps and bathing foams. In addition, rectal suppositories are available, which should be used with great caution and only with the permission of your pediatrician.
Despite the numerous medicinal properties, a specialist may find contraindications for the use of sea buckthorn in your child, and therefore you should not trust the reviews of other parents on the Internet, you need to trust your doctor.
Watch the following video about the benefits of sea buckthorn for mother and child.
How to use?
- For diaper rash, infants up to one year old are lubricated on damaged skin several times a day. You can use a special cream with sea buckthorn oil “Heal-Ka!”
- For burns and abrasions, a child of any age should moisten napkins with the product and gently place it on the affected area of skin for a few minutes. You need to repeat such lotions at least 6-7 times a day.
- If you have a stuffy nose, you can drip sea buckthorn oil only if the child is already one year old. You should first make sure there are no allergies. The usual dosage is 1-2 drops in each nostril no more than 3 times a day. The maximum course of treatment is no more than 10 days.
- For the throat, the product is used as an antiseptic and pain reliever. A child over one year old with a sore throat can lubricate the throat with sea buckthorn oil up to 5 times a day until pain when swallowing completely disappears.
- For the treatment of bronchitis, bronchotracheitis, whooping cough, and for the complex treatment of pneumonia, it is allowed to use sea buckthorn oil in inhalations. For severe coughs, you can use medications based on a healing product orally. The doctor prescribes specific dosages, taking into account the age and exact diagnosis of the small patient.
- For stomatitis and gingivitis, use sea buckthorn oil to carefully treat wounds and inflamed gums using a cotton swab. It is recommended to do this procedure several times a day. After treatment, do not let your child drink or eat for half an hour. The oil promotes rapid healing of ulcers and wounds in the mouth.
- For synechiae (conditions in which fusion of organs and tissues occurs with each other), sea buckthorn oil is used externally, carefully lubricating the fused areas. According to numerous reviews from parents, this is very effective, especially with synechiae in girls, when the labia fusion occurs.
- For adenoids, inflamed, overgrown tonsils are lubricated 3-4 times a day, this relieves pain and partially relieves swelling. Doctors also recommend using sea buckthorn oil for some time after surgery to remove the tonsil.
For gastritis and stomach ulcers, children are given half a teaspoon of sea buckthorn oil 15 minutes before meals 3-4 times a day.
For bacterial intestinal diseases, children's suppositories with sea buckthorn are prescribed in the dosage and according to the scheme specified in the instructions for use.
To strengthen the immune system, special preparations based on vitamins and minerals are optimal, in which pharmacists have added sea buckthorn oil.
Age restrictions
In general, sea buckthorn oil can be used to treat children from birth. However, this mainly applies only to external use. Here, no one ties parents’ hands; if you want to use sea buckthorn to treat your baby’s skin problems, good luck!
Taking the oil internally is not recommended for children. The abundance of carotenoids can cause jaundice or severe allergies.
Doctors usually do not recommend giving rectal suppositories with sea buckthorn to children who have not yet turned 2 years old.
Vitamin complexes that contain this product “VitaMishki” and “Pomogusha” are intended for children over 3 years of age.
Contraindications
Sea buckthorn oil should not be given to children with kidney and liver diseases, especially if the children are currently experiencing an exacerbation of a chronic illness. You should not give your child a medicinal substance to drink if he currently has diarrhea, indigestion, or vomiting. The oil is contraindicated for problems with the gallbladder and pancreas. Sea buckthorn oil is not applied externally to deep open wounds.
Doctor Komarovsky about sea buckthorn oil
Widely known pediatrician Evgeny Komarovsky highly appreciates the amazing natural properties of “royal berry” (sea buckthorn) oil. He recommends adding it to saline solution when rinsing the nasal cavity in the treatment of rhinitis of various etiologies. This is done so that saline solutions and subsequent instillation of antibiotics or vasoconstrictor drops do not cause drying out of the nasal mucosa.
However, Evgeniy Olegovich, recognizing the benefits of sea buckthorn oil, warns parents against self-treating various diseases only with this folk remedy. So, with some diagnoses, while moms and dads are enthusiastically rubbing and burying sea buckthorn, precious time is wasted that doctors need to save the child and prevent the disease from becoming chronic and causing unwanted severe complications.
Sea buckthorn, according to Komarovsky, is very good. Especially if with the permission of a doctor and wisely.

Can children use sea buckthorn oil in their nose for treatment?
Sea buckthorn is useful not only for adults, but also for children. Oils, suppositories, and tinctures are made from it. But at what age are children allowed to use oil for treatment?
Sea buckthorn itself is a very useful product. Jam or just juice from this berry:
– help fight frequent colds;
– saturate the body with a number of useful substances;
– support and strengthen vision and vascular walls;
– keep the body of pregnant women and nursing mothers in good shape.
Oil is also made from sea buckthorn, which absorbs all the beneficial substances and does not contain the usual acid found in the fresh product. It is harmful for stomach diseases such as ulcers or gastritis, and can also greatly weaken small children.
It all depends on the child’s individual tolerance. Sea buckthorn oil is a fairly strong allergen, which makes the use of the product risky. If your baby does not tolerate complementary foods well and often has allergies, then it is better not to use sea buckthorn oil.
Sea buckthorn is full of vitamin C, so if a child has a reaction to foods rich in this substance, you should be even more careful in its use. If you are okay with this, you can easily use oil from this berry for your child. It is advisable to do this after consulting a doctor first. You can also do a small test by applying a small amount of oil to the inside of your child's wrist.
If there are no signs of irritation, most likely there will be no allergy. There is one more caveat. If the oil is used internally, do not use it in large quantities. Once in the stomach, it quite dilutes the stool.
Sea buckthorn oil is given to children of different ages in different ways. If the child is already old enough, you can simply drop the oil onto the mucous membrane with a pipette and lightly squeeze the nose so that it is distributed throughout the entire inside of the nose. Afterwards, tilt your head back so that it flows slightly into the larynx, soothing and restoring the entire mucous membrane.
When the child is still very small, you can simply take an ear stick, dip it in oil and lubricate the walls of the nose. This will be quite enough. In cases where you need to lubricate the throat of children, simply wrap your finger in a sterile bandage, lightly dip it in oil so that it does not drip, and quickly lubricate the root of the tongue and the throat around it.
Before using sea buckthorn oil, it is advisable to consult with a local pediatrician who knows the baby’s condition “from A to Z.”
