Description current as of 09/24/2014

  • Latin name: Decasan
  • ATX code: D08AJ10
  • Active ingredient: Decametoxin
  • Manufacturer: “Yuria-Pharm”, Kiev, Ukraine

Compound

1 ml of medicinal solution contains:

Release form

In pharmacy kiosks, the pharmaceutical drug can be found in the form of a clear solution, which is packaged in bottles of 50 ml, 100 ml, 200 ml, 400 ml, in containers (packages) of 50 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml and 1000 ml or in nebulas for nebulizer, 2 ml each.

pharmachologic effect

Decasan is a drug classified as an antiseptic drug with therapeutic properties such as fungicidal, protocidal and viruscidal, that is, the active components are able to suppress contamination by fungi, protozoa and even viruses. The bactericidal effect on most gram-negative and gram-positive microflora has been studied and clinically confirmed. In particular they are affected:

  • staphylococci;
  • streptococci;
  • pathogens of diphtheria;
  • microorganisms that cause Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection;
  • epidermophytes;
  • trichophytes;
  • yeast and yeast-like fungi;
  • erythrasmas;
  • mold fungi;
  • Giardia;
  • Trichomonas.

The mechanism of pharmaceutical action of the drug is based on the ability of Decamethoxin, the main component, to disrupt the permeability of the target cell membrane, which consists of a bilipid layer. The drug binds to fat-like organic structures in the region of phosphatidic groups. Thus, the homeostatic parameters of the internal environment of the cell change and its lysis, that is, destruction, occurs. A positive feature of the drug is the selectivity of its therapeutic action, which is manifested in the inability to concentrate on the cells of the human body.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The drug is used externally and is practically not absorbed by intact skin and mucous membrane. The open wound surface is also indifferent to the effects of biologically active components of the antiseptic.

Indications for use

  • skin diseases (pustular, bacterial and fungal, microbial eczema);
  • purulent-inflammatory nosological units that spread to the skin and subcutaneous tissue in the gaping or draining stage (for example, boils and carbuncles, panaritium and infected wounds, phlegmon and abscess);
  • inflammatory pathologies of the oral cavity (gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontitis, etc.);
  • in surgical practice for irrigation of the pleural or abdominal cavity, wound surfaces with a large area;
  • diseases of the respiratory system and upper respiratory tract of inflammatory origin (bronchiectasis with suppuration, tonsillitis, abscess cystic hypoplasia of the lungs, chronic laryngopharyngitis, chronic bronchitis in the acute stage, bacterial carriage, and so on);
  • pre-sterilization treatment of medical instruments;
  • pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract (as a rule, a pharmaceutical drug is used for inflammatory lesions of the large intestine, for example, sigmoiditis, proctitis, ulcerative colitis);
  • disinfection of gloves and hands of medical personnel before manipulations requiring aseptic conditions;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system (urethritis, vaginitis, balanoitis, endometritis, prostatitis);
  • treatment of the birth canal immediately before childbirth.

Contraindications

  • individual hypersensitivity to the active substance;
  • hereditary or acquired intolerance to the constituent components of a pharmaceutical drug.

Side effects

  • allergic skin reactions - urticaria, redness;
  • a feeling of heat and burning behind the sternum with the endobronchial route of administration.

Instructions for Dekasan (Method and dosage)

How to use the solution

The pharmaceutical drug is used in different areas of medicine, and accordingly, the approaches to preparing lotions or rinsing are completely different. So in urological practice, the drug must first be diluted with clean water in a ratio of 1:7, based on the course of conservative treatment of chronic pathologies of the genitourinary system. The dosage is 600 ml of active liquid for 20 washes.

For diseases of the large intestine or prostatitis, the pharmaceutical solution is administered through an enema 2 times a day, 100 ml. The liquid should first be heated to the physiological temperature of the human body. Such measures will contribute to a more complete delivery of therapeutic effects on the affected mucous membrane. The duration of treatment for enteral diseases is not limited; as a rule, sanitation continues until the intestinal symptoms completely disappear, that is, until the exacerbation of the pathological process is eliminated.

In gynecology, Decasan is administered by douching, but first the medicine should be heated to 38 degrees Celsius. The dosage for bacterial, fungal or trichomonas vaginitis is about 100 ml 3 times a day. The future birth canal of a pregnant woman is treated with the same amount of medicinal liquid immediately before the process of obstetrics. In postpartum care, to eliminate the problem of endometritis, rinsing the uterus with Decasan in a volume of up to 200 ml 2 times a day is used.

Treatment of various oral diseases

Periodontal disease in the acute stage - 100 ml of the drug is first heated, and then the gum pockets are treated with a special irrigator. Also, this pathology can be treated with applications to the affected areas and areas of the dystrophic-inflammatory process.

Gingivitis of an ulcerative-necrotic nature and candidiasis of the mucous membrane - rinses are used 4-5 times a day, 150 ml each for 10 days. If the outcome of conservative therapy is unfavorable, the duration of the course of conservative sanitation can be increased, but only after examination by a qualified specialist and the need for further treatment has been confirmed.

Fungal diseases of the palatine tonsils, asymptomatic carriage of harmful microflora or chronic tonsillitis - the lacunae of the palatine tonsils and pharynx are thoroughly washed and rinsed using 1 wash with 100 ml of the active pharmaceutical drug. During such treatment, gargling is also recommended, since this is a favorite place for pathogenic microorganisms.

Endobronchial use of Decasan

In the presence of pathological abnormalities in the respiratory system, a pharmaceutical solution is applied directly to the mucous membrane of the bronchial tree and lungs. Dosage for diseases of the respiratory tract depends on the method of drug delivery:

  • microtracheostomal – up to 50 ml 2 times a day;
  • tracheobronchial lavage – up to 100 ml;
  • transnasally, using a catheter - up to 10 ml once a day;
  • ultrasonic inhalation – up to 10 ml 1-2 times a day.

The use of such routes of drug administration for a child is also justified, since the therapeutic effect of the pharmaceutical drug increases several times with endobronchial use. Accordingly, such sanitation eliminates the possible adverse consequences of diseases of the respiratory system for a young, growing organism.

Nebula Dekasan, instructions for use

A nebulizer is a modern device that is used for inhalation of medications during hospital or home therapy. The name of the technical device comes from Latin (“nebula” means “fog” or “haze”). In this device, the pharmaceutical agent is transformed into a fine cloud, which, during the active phase of breathing, enters the bronchial tree and lungs, thus exerting a therapeutic effect.

Nebulizer dosage:

  • children over 12 years of age and adults - there is no need to dilute the drug, inhalation is carried out with a solution of 5-10 ml 1-2 times a day;
  • instructions for children under 12 years of age require dilution in saline in a ratio of 1:1 (for one inhalation, 2 ml of Decasan and 2 ml of solvent are mixed), manipulation is carried out 1-2 times a day, depending on the stage of the disease.

Overdose

The drug practically does not enter the main or regional bloodstream, since intact skin and mucous membranes prevent this. Clinical studies did not detect Decasan in the blood or when applied to an open wound surface. There are no reliable cases of overdose of a pharmaceutical solution described in the medical literature.

Interaction

The main active component has cationic surface active properties, which partly determines its therapeutic effect, and therefore is not compatible with pharmaceuticals that exhibit anionic activity (for example, soap).

A non-drug interaction is an increase in the sensitivity of resistant strains of microorganisms to various types of antibiotics, which implies abundant use of the drug in surgical practice.

Terms of sale

Available without a prescription.

Storage conditions

The solution for inhalation or external use should be stored out of the reach of young children, protected from direct sunlight at a constant temperature of 18 to 25 degrees.

Best before date

special instructions

The drug does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions or the ability to concentrate for a long time, therefore, during the course of conservative treatment, you can safely drive vehicles or other complex mechanisms independently.

For children

Decasan for nebulizer is actively used in pediatric practice, since it is the optimal form of spraying a pharmaceutical drug for the gentle elimination of pathologies of the respiratory tract, because the mucous membrane is not yet fully developed during certain periods of growing up (this method of administration allows you to get rid of some possible adverse effects of therapy). It is also much more convenient for children to use Dekasan for a nebulizer than nasal drops or any other methods of delivering the active components of the drug to the affected layers of the bronchial tree, because it is quite difficult to sit a small child in one position for a long time and correctly insert a catheter into the child’s nose, for example.

In turn, during inhalation with a nebulizer, children can maintain a moderate level of activity. It is also possible to watch cartoons or read books, because the mask of the device is practically not felt on the face after the first inhalation.

Decasan for inhalation for children, of course, should be diluted somewhat stronger than for adult patients. As a rule, half dosages of the drug are used, but for precise instructions you should additionally consult a qualified pediatrician.

With alcohol

The pharmaceutical drug is used for local use, and therefore practically does not enter the regional or main bloodstream, however, drinking alcohol can lead to an increase in the duration of the course of conservative therapy or to other adverse consequences during complete treatment of a particular pathology.

During pregnancy (and lactation)

There is no additional information on the use of the drug during pregnancy or lactation in the medical literature.

Reviews

As a rule, patients who have undergone a course of conservative treatment with this pharmaceutical drug leave positive reviews on thematic forums. It is interesting that information about the medicine and reports on the completion of appropriate therapy can be found in various fields of medicine, because Decasan enjoys a good reputation in gynecology, surgery, urology, internal medicine and pediatrics.

Separately, it should be noted reviews related to the elimination of respiratory nosological entities using this pharmaceutical drug. Of course, most grateful patients advocate for the nebulizer form of the medicine, because in this way the course of conservative sanitation becomes much more convenient and takes less time. The period of manipulation itself is also characterized on the positive side; patients can calmly work at the computer or engage in other extraneous activities.

Dekasan price, where to buy

The price of Dekasan in the Russian Federation fluctuates around 80 rubles, but finding it in pharmacy kiosks is quite a difficult task.

In Ukraine, a solution of a pharmaceutical drug can be purchased starting from 25 hryvnia, and nebulas for a modern inhaler are described at a price of 30 hryvnia for a cardboard package of 10 pieces.

Dekasan

Decasan is a protistocidal, disinfectant and virucidal agent that perfectly fights microbes.

Pharmacological action of Decasan

The main principle of the drug's operation is that it can make the target cell membrane almost impenetrable, which occurs due to the connection with lipid structures in the region of their phosphatidic groups. Due to the fact that the membrane changes its permeability, homeostasis is disrupted directly in its internal part, and the virus is completely destroyed. Decasan is completely safe for humans, since it does not have any negative effect on the total number of cells in the entire body.

Also in the instructions for Dekasan it is noted that as a result of numerous experiments and analyzes it was found that it causes the final death of a fairly large number of strains of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms. These include pathogens of diphtheria, staphylococci, streptococci, pathogens of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc. Decasan has a disinfectant effect on trichophytes, epidermophytes, yeast-like fungi, erythrasmas and other mold-like fungi. The drug exerts its antiprotozoal ability by acting directly on Trichomonas and Giardia. Decasan is a universal remedy in the fight against viruses. During the research, it was found that there are no bacteria in nature that it cannot cope with. The bacteriostatic effect of Decasan can be considered the initial stage of bactericidal manifestation.

Decasan

Name: Decasan

Name

pharmachologic effect

Decasan is a fungicidal, simplecidal, viruscidal and antimicrobial drug. The mechanism of action of Decasan is based on its ability to disrupt the permeability of the target cell membrane (CM) by combining with lipid structures in the area of their phosphatidic groups. As a result of changes in CM permeability, homeostasis inside the cells is disrupted and cell lysis occurs. The selectivity of Decasan's action is expressed in the inability to concentrate on human cell CM.

The bactericidal effect of Decasan on most strains of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms has been studied and confirmed. Among them are staphylococci, streptococci, pathogens of diphtheria, pseudomonas infection, and others. The fungicidal effect of Decasan is expressed against epidermophytes, trichophytes, yeast-like fungi, erythrasma, yeast, and some mold fungi (penicillium, aspergillus). Decasan exhibits antiprotozoal effectiveness against Giardia and Trichomonas. No viruses resistant to the drug have been identified. The bacteriostatic result of Decasan is due to the same mechanism of action and can be considered as the first stage of bactericidal manifestation.

During the treatment process, Decasan will increase the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibiotics, and will show its activity against strains that are resistant to the treatment. Intact mucous membranes and skin prevent drug absorption. No significant concentrations of Decasan were found in the blood.

Indications for use

Indications for the use of Decasan are skin diseases (bacterial, pustular and fungal in nature, microbial eczema), purulent-inflammatory diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue in the stage of open wounds and drainage (furuncle, carbuncle, panaritium, phlegmon, abscess, infected wounds, etc.) , inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity (gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontitis), severe inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system and their complications (suppurating bronchiectasis, abscessing cystic hypoplasia of the lungs, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis), inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract (sore throat, chronic laryngopharyngitis, bacterial carriage), inflammation of the large intestine (sigmoiditis, proctitis, ulcerative colitis), inflammation of the urogenital area (urethritis, balanoposthitis, prostatitis, vaginitis, endometritis).

In operative surgery, Decasan is used for abdominal operations, for irrigation of the abdominal and pleural cavities, and extensive wound surfaces of organs. Decasan is used in pre-sterilization treatment of medical instruments and equipment, sanitation of the birth canal in pregnant women before childbirth, disinfection of hands and gloves of medical personnel, before manipulation and surgical treatment.

Mode of application

In its usual form, Decasan is used to treat skin diseases in the form of lotions and rinses. For fistulous forms of the disease, daily rinsing through the fistulous tracts is used. The course of treatment is up to 5 days.

For diseases of the oral mucosa, Decasan is used in the form of rinses of 150 ml or applications of up to 50 ml, min. In case of periodontal disease of 1-2 degrees of dystrophic-inflammatory course, in the period of exacerbation of the process, the gum pockets are irrigated with a warm solution of the drug (about 100 ml) or applications are applied to the affected gums until the acute manifestations of inflammation are relieved. Ulcerative-necrotic gingivitis and candidiasis of the oral mucosa require rinsing 4-5 times a day, 150 ml. The course of treatment is about 10 days.

In case of fungal infections of the palatine tonsils and chronic tonsillitis, as well as asymptomatic carriage of pathogenic bacteriological flora, the lacunae of the palatine tonsils and pharynx are washed or rinsed, using about 100 ml of Decasan per rinse. It is advisable to simultaneously irrigate the nasopharynx.

Particular care and caution is required for the endobronchial use of Decasan in cases of suppurating bronchiectasis, abscessing cystic hypoplasia of the lungs, and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. Depending on the method of administration of the drug, the following dose and frequency of administration are recommended:

• Microtracheostomal route of administration – up to 50 ml 2 times a day.

• Transnasal catheter – up to 10 ml once a day.

• Ultrasonic inhalation – up to 10 ml 1-2 times a day.

• By tracheobronchial lavage – up to 100 ml.

The duration of therapy ranges from 2 weeks to 1 month.

In the treatment of bacterial, trichomonas and mycotic vaginitis, Decasan is used by douching. The drug is heated to +38 degrees Celsius and administered in a volume of up to 100 ml 3 times a day. Similarly, a one-time prenatal sanitation of the future birth canal of a pregnant woman is carried out. To relieve endometritis in the postpartum period, rinse the uterine cavity 2 times a day with a warm solution of Decasan, in a volume of up to 200 ml.

Disinfection of the hands and gloves of medical personnel before manipulations and surgical treatment is carried out by treating with a sufficient amount of Decasan for at least 5 minutes. Initially, washed diagnostic and therapeutic instruments are immersed in the drug solution for 30 minutes for disinfection.
